Lightroom from a PC to a MAC

I have both Lightroom and Photoshop on my PC laptop. Well now I am in the market to buy a MAC, but do I have to buy new softwear again or is there any way to instal it on to a MAC?

Lightroom is multi-platform so the same serial number will work on Mac and/or Windows and you're allowed to install it on a maximum of two computers at any one time: Mac/Mac, Win/Win or Mac/Win
To install on a Mac, you need to download the Mac installer (.dmg file) from the Adobe website then enter your serial number.
Photoshop is licensed per platform: one serial number, two activations but Windows -only (Win/Win) or Mac-only (Mac/Mac). Not Win/Mac. So you'd have to purchase a Mac version separately.
You could consider joining the Adobe Cloud: it's all multi-platform so the same membership allows you to install all software (max 2 activations at any one time) on Mac/Mac, Win/Win or Mac/Win.

  • Can I move Lightroom from a PC to a Mac?

I am about to move from PC to Mac.Someone has suggested to me that I will not be able to move my copy of Lightroom across from one to the other. I didn't want to argue the point with them since they are somewhat more knowledgeable about such things than me, but I am sure that I can. I didn't have to choose a platform when I bought my copy. Perhaps he was referring to the licence. But then again, I'm sure I am licenced for using Lightroom on at least two computers. Who is correct?
Assuming I am, does it matter that they are differnt platforms? As I said, I want to migrate from one to the other, so I don't intend to use it on both anyway.

Well Dorin, that is news to me!  Out of curiosity, I went through the buying process at Adobe to see what happens. Unlike when buying Photoshop, where you have to make a specific choice of platform, with Lightroom, no selection option is available. It simply shows the platform as "Mac/Win". So it makes more sense to buy the disc version rather than the download one.
Marek, I did indeed install LR1 from a disc. I did however, upgrade to LR2 via a download. Presumably, that will make a difference. Perhaps I should install the disc version (LR1) onto the Mac and then upgrade straight to LR3. I was going to get 3 anyway. Would that work?  Will there be consequences for me regarding my catalogs, collections, etc, which I went at great pains to organize in LR2?
As a side issue and this will only be of interest to UK buyers, Adobe add VAT at 17.5% for hard copies, but  bizarrely apply VAT 21% for the download version.

  • I aam thinking of changing from a PC to a Mac.  Will I need to buy a new Apple compatible version of Lightroom, do I have to pay to upgrade or can I get the new version free?

I am thinking of changing from a PC to a Mac.  Will I need to buy a new, Apple compatible, version of Lightroom, or can I upgrade to it, or can I get it free as I've paid for the PC version?

Your licence is not platform specific, so Lightroom can be used on any two machines (Mac and/or WIndows), with one actually being used at any given time.
    So no, you're money's safe!

Hi, I have just loaded Lightroom 5 from the disc onto my Mac.  every time i try and launch the application, it goes to the registration/licence window.  i have input the data five times already.  When Lr5 launches the update window appears, when i try to do anything the following message comes up: - An error occrred when attempting to change modules.  What do i need to do to fix this?

Masher please use the uninstaller located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.  Once Photoshop Lightroom is removed then please download Lightroom 5.5 from Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.5 and reinstall.

  • I purchased Lightroom 5, loaded it on my Mac, and updated to version 5.6. I then tried importing photos from my Sony DSC-RX100iii. Unfortunately it only imports JPEG files but no RAW files. What is the problem and how do I fix it?

Than LR should have brought in the RAW files as well. ACR is the RAW
processing engine used by LR under the covers so anything not supported by
ACR would not be supported by Lightroom.
Are you shooting RAW plus JPEG? By default, Lightroom will stack then
unless you tell it not to. Check to see if there is a small badge on the
preview that looks like two sheets of paper with a number. That is how
Lightroom indicates a stack. You can unstack them by clicking on the badge.
There is also a menu item to stack/unstack photos. Otherwise, I would have
to research but not sure why Lightroom would ignore the RAW photos but
    still import the JPEGS.

  • Is there a functional advantage in downloading Lightroom from the Mac app store vs from elsewhere?

Is there a functional advantage in downloading Lightroom from the Mac app store vs from elsewhere?

No...and in fact there are several disadvantages (notably the easy ability of updating).
If you have the choice between a regular (real) license and an App Store license, buy the real thing…the App store is a problem...

  • Can I move my copy Lightroom from my pc to my new I Mac?

Can I move my copy of Lightroom from a pc to my new I Mac? Also can I move Photoshop?

The Lightroom license is cross-platform. You can download the Mac version and install it and use your existing serial number. The Photoshop license is not cross-platform.

  • Lightroom 5 - from DVD to download for MAC

I am really not happy with my experience thus far. You have designed this site in a way that is a real turn-off for NEW customers. I feel like Marco Pollo or Magellan trying to navigate this maze of pages and all I wanted to do was ask a question. This is customer service prevention.
My question - finally - is that I purchased Lightroom 5 on Amazon and received a DVD in the mail. I am on a Mac that does not have a disk drive. How can I download my purchase using my serial number, etc?
PLEASE send me an actual answer remembering I am new and not an Adobe geek. Do not send me a series of pages I have to navigate and decipher for myself. If you are a robot, contact your supervisor so I get a human response.
    Painfully and regrettably yours,
    Patrick

  • Moving lightroom from PC to Mac

I have downloaded Lightroom 5 again on my new Mac however, my serial number will not work? Help

Yes, no problem.  These instructions are for LR4 but the same principles apply: http://members.lightroomqueen.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/1165/187/how-do-i- move-my-catalog-photos-and-other-lightroom-files-to-a-new-computer

  • How do I transfer my photo's to lightroom from my iPhone?

How do I transfer my photo's to lightroom from my iPhone?

Welcome to the Apple community Brooke31.
Turn on photo stream on both devices, settings > iCloud on the phone, system preferences > iCloud on the Mac.
Photostream when enabled will only add photos from the camera roll that were taken post photostream activation. (Photostream does not currently share video)
You should connect your device to your computer with a USB cable and import any photos taken pre-activation manually.

  • How do I prevent Lightroom from creating duplicates if the edit in photoshop is not saved?

    Hello!
How do I prevent Lightroom from creating duplicates if the edit in photoshop is not saved?
So... Quite often I choose to 'Edit in photoshop' from Lightroom but then end up not saving the result. (for example, because I just wanted to experiment with the photo, or I'm not satisfied with the results)
However, Lightroom always creates a copy of the original photo, which stays in the catalog even if the photoshop changes aren't saved.
Is there a way to stop this, and only add a photo if it has been edited in PS?
    Using LR5 with PS CS6 on a Mac 10.9
    THANK YOU!

Select 'Open the Image in PS as a Smart Object'. The image will be rendered by ACR in memory without being written to disc until you save it from within PS.

  • Will Lightroom 5 be available on the Mac App Store?

Will Lightroom 5 be available on the Mac App Store?

Unbelievable. All it took was one iteration on the Mac App Store and we're back to being forced to buy the hard-to-install-and-likely-to-be-wrought-with-problems-DRM-delight version of the upgrade direct from Adobe?! I wish Adobe would decide on a distribution model and stick with it for the sake of its customers. I'm getting awfully fed up with having to navigate a different way of upgrading the software every time it becomes available. I might not bother this time. Get it right, Adobe. You can no longer assume you have a captive audience.

I purchased Lightroom from B&H Photo a few months ago.  I did not instal the software, because I was purchasing a new computer in the near future.  I am now purchasing that computer, but cannot find the software.  B&H suggested that I contact you directly to help me.  I have the receipt, and you can look to see that the program was never used.  It would be great if you could just send me another copy of the software.  Thank you very much.
    Marc

    Download from Adobe's website
Win: Adobe - Lightroom : For Windows
Mac: Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh
Install then enter your serial number when prompted.
I have the receipt, and you can look to see that the program was never used.
The receipt is only of use to B&H. Adobe will have no record of it.
If you quote an Adobe Lightroom serial number then Adobe can confirm if that serial number has ever been registered. That step should not be required at this stage though. Just install the software.
