Lightroom hangs when I delete images

Hi there, I'm on to LR2 and it shares a problem I had with versions of 1.0, namely that after I've used my laptop for a while, I can't easily delete images. Symptoms: Lightroon tells me (helpfully) it isn't responding. If I kill it and relaunch, there may be a question mark against the first image I attempted to delete, which tells me it did get deleted before it hung. In this state I can delete one image at a time after killing and relaunching LR2 (it's workflow Jim, but not as we know it). If I actually reboot my laptop, I get a few minutes grace and then the problems of freezing when deleting start over, presumably as memory silts up.
System details:
Lenovo X61 tablet 1.6GHz Dual Core 4GB Ram Vista Business SP1, 200GB 7200 rpm (you'd think all this would be enough!) with every BIOS, fix and patch from Lenovo/MS applied. As a general rule my Vista/X61 combination doesn't cope well with my images (actually, more accurately, it doesn't cope well with anything; when oh when will Vista be behind us (sigh) ;-).
I import my images straight to DNG from a range of Canon cameras set to Raw. I've learnt to do absolutely nothing when importing because that will also upset Lightroom (I usually go for a coffee/write a PhD).
I've attempted to search through the forums and found nothing that seemed to relate but apologies if you solved this ages ago and I'm being tiresome.
I'd be grateful if anyone had experience/ideas or even if we could isolate a scapegoat from MS/Lenovo/Adobe whom we could victimise a little before sending to hell and damnation :-)
best,
Phil

When opening Bridge I get this message: Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cash. Please try purging the central cache in the cache preferences to correct this problem. I did this and still get this same message. Also now when deleting images they don't delete till I close and reopen Bridge. What can i do to fix this problem?

Maybe a Preferences reset can help:
Numerous program settings are stored in the Adobe Bridge preferences file, including display, Adobe Photo Downloader, performance, and file-handling options.
Restoring preferences returns settings to their defaults and can often correct unusual application behavior.
Press and hold the Ctrl key (Windows) or the Option key (Mac OS) while starting Adobe Bridge.
In the Reset Settings dialog box, select one or more of the following options:
      Reset Preferences
Returns preferences to their factory defaults. Some labels and ratings may be lost. Adobe Bridge creates a new preferences file when it starts.
    Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache
Purging the thumbnail cache can help if Adobe Bridge is not displaying thumbnails properly. Adobe Bridge re-creates the thumbnail cache when it starts.
    Reset Standard Workspaces
Returns Adobe predefined workspaces to their factory default configurations.
Click OK, or click Cancel to open Adobe Bridge without resetting preferences.

  • Lightroom hangs when attempting to import RAW files from D750

    Hi guys,
I purchased lightroom 5 sometime back to install on multiple platforms. Recently did an update on my macbook and it was able to read the NEF files from D750.
However when I installed lightroom 5 on my iMac, the prog keeps hanging when I attempt to import files from the D750. Other NEF files from my D700 were ok.
    Anyone knows why?

    Could be a hardware issue
Make sure the cable connection to the D750 is properly connected. Also, if possible try using a card reader. Or vice versa.

  • How can the Aperture Library grow when I delete images (incl Masters)?

When I delete pictures from an 'album or project' the Aperture Library increases in size - even when I specify to delete the Master image and all versions. This happens even after the trash is emptied.
Can anyone shed some light on this - thank you!
    George.
    dual G5   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   3GB - 2x160GB SATA

Ian - I was working on some albums and when I started the process, just out of curiosity I looked at the size of the "Aperture Library". Did not really jot down the number of the byte count. After deleting a buch of rejected images (I did have the second monitor window open showing the Aperture Lib size) and noticed that the library appeared to have increased. Not having been sure of my memory and number recollection, I deleted a whole album and the size was up by several 100 KB.
Just to give you an example - after having moved the 23.5GB Ap Lib to a safe place, I imported 4 different projects. 3 of the projects contained the images which were owned by me the last project contained the images which were owned by 'root'. The size of the Library went from about 170KB to 82MB. I deleted 4 images in one of 'my' projects and the Lib size went from 82 MB to 103.4MB. Deleted and additional 6 images in the same project and it was now down to 100MB. I then deleted an additional 15 images (originals owned by root) and the size went down to 86.5MB. Quit Aprture, the Lib size showed 84.1MB, proceded to empty the trash (which contained the 25 images) and the size now was 82.9MB. This is not a big deal, 900KB, but why and why the wild changes?
When I went back to read the Aperture manual, on page 55, it states that removing "Albums" does not delete the master image nor its other versions. When I delete a "project" the size of the Library does get reduced.
I guess, I have to be careful "when" I examine the Library size - and maybe I have answered my own question - Thank you all for your input -

  • Lightroom hangs when syncing folder with new images

I have been using lightroom for some time with no problem but today whenever I try to sync a folder that has new raw files in it, lightrrom hangs and then crashes out saying windows will notify me if it finds a solution, I have tried uninstalling lightroom and reinstalling but still get the same issue, if there are no new images it goes through the sync process fine and reports complete.
Does anyone know why this might be happening suddenly?

after several restarts and reinstalls it has started working again, cannot say what was causing the issue as it just randomly started working again.

  • Address Book Hanging When Choosing Custom Image

Address Book app in Tiger (10.4.6) hangs whenever any attempts to change the default image of the contact is done. The console displays the following message (multiple lines with same message):
    CDeviceList::CDeviceList: Found 0 devices.
It seems that it only stops when it finally turns on the isight camera. It takes a relatively long time to do that. After the camera is found, any interaction with the Address Book interface will trigger the hang and the message in the console.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

    - quit the Address Book application.
    - in Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences and double click
on com.apple.AddressBook.plist ( or just type
    "open ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist

    - in the property list editor, delete the value for

    - save the file

  • Lightroom Responsiveness When Working on Images

I have loaded around 200 images into Lightroom and have instructed Lightroom to render standard (1600 DPI) and 1:1 previews. My computer is a Windows XP Athlon dual-core machine with 2 GB of Ram. The operating system is on a 10K Raptor drive with the Swap file, My Documents folder and Lightroom database on a second 7K Sata drive. Both drives are less than 50% full and have been recently defragmented.
When I have the Develop Module open and select an image on the filmstrip it takes between 4 and 5 seconds before the Develop controls become active. During this time, the message "Loading..." appears superimposed over the image. Once the "Loading" message goes away, I can access the controls but the image the Develop controls aren't very responsive. When I move a slider, the image goes out of focus and then snaps back into focus once I stop moving the slider. The time lag for the image to come back into focus seems to be around 1 second after the time that I stop moving the slider.
When I'm in the Library module and when I select an image image on the filmstrip, I will occasionally see a 1 - 2 second delay and will get the message "Working..." But this is livable but the 4 - 5 second lag each time that I select an image while in the Develop Module, along with the time for the image to respond to a slider move, makes the Develop Module very hard to use on my system.
I have read many of the posts in this forum and have found many concerns about the time to ingest images but I haven't found much that seems to correlate with the problem that I am experiencing. Therefore, I decided to submit this post and to ask for help.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Dave Mayfield

    Don,
I've done some more testing and I don't see much of any variation in the time that the Develop module displays the "loading..." message when a new file is selected on the filmstrip. I find that the time is between 4 and 5 seconds for any file that I have in my test database. The shots that I have are all raw files from a Canon 20D. The images range from very high in detail content to shots of just a gray card that fills the entire frame.
Next, I wanted to see how much of my system ram was being used by Lightroom to see if the 2Gb of ram was adversely affecting the file access time. I loaded a tool that flushes everything that it can out of ram to have a fixed starting point. On my system with 2GB of ram, my available ram prior to loading Lightroom was 1.634 GB. When Lightroom had loaded, the available ram dropped to 1.442GB and didn't vary much as I accessed over 20 images with the Develop module. I continue to access images in both the Develop and Library modules but didn't see much change in the amount of available ram. Thus, it doesn't seem, given the small test database (~200 image), that ram is the limiting factor on my system.
Then, I loaded a tool to take a look at processor utilization and found that the total load on both cores ramped up to nearly 100% and stayed there until the "loading..." message went away.
Next, I loaded a disk activity monitor and determined that the drive where my Lightroom database is stored is accessed for approximately 1.4 seconds of the 5 seconds that the "Loading..." message is displayed.
With this information, I took a closer look at processor utilization on my system, it looks like the load on both cores ramps up to about 50% as the disk is accesses and then ramps up to nearly 100% for the remaining time that "loading..." is displayed.
This leads me to believe that most of the access time in the Develop module is related to the amount of processing that Lightroom has to do to show a "developed" onscreen image once the raw file has been read from disk. Hopefully, the Lightroom engineers are working on this as we speak. I wouldn't be at all surprised since this is only release 1.0 software that this processing time will be able to be reduced.
Finally, since I have Norton Internet Security 2007 loaded on my computer, I completely disabled all of the various scanners within the software package and repeated several of the above listed tests. Happily, I didn't find any significant contributions to the access delays coming from any of the NIS tools / scanners.
So - it really seems to me that the primary contributor to the "sluggishness" of file accesses in the Develop module on my system come from the processing time needed for Lightroom do "develop" and display the image.
    Hope this helps,
    Dave

  • Lightroom hang when development modeule selected

I just installed lightroom 2  a few days ago. My window XP hung after select development module.
I have 3 gig of memory. I do not believe memory is the issue. I search the web and seems to be a known
issue of getting hung in lightroom 2.Is there any solution for this hang problem?

I had the same issue several months ago (can't remember which version of LR2)
If you are using an Nvidia graphics card, disabling the Nview desktop manager may improve things.

  • IMovie hangs when I delete events or clips.  i think it got worse after installing Lion.  Suggestions please?  MBP

Hello, do you think you can help me . I have a canon 7d and when I go to I movie to edit after converting my clips , when I go to quick time and get the final results the footage is fuzzy I changed the settings to 1440+1080 and its worse . What should the setting be? I am filming in 24p

Sorry, I should have added this error message that I get when trying to move the rejected clips to the trash:
The operation could not be completed. * -[NSPlaceholderMutableDictionary initWithObjects:forKeys:]: number of objects (0) not equal to number of keys (4)
Perhaps this will help someone with nailing down what the issue is.
    Thanks again.

  • ID CS hangs on one particular image when exporting to pdf

I use ID 3.01, and have created a two-page folder, with 10 images. I cannot create a pdf, because ID hangs when downloading one image during the export process. It's an 8-bit CMYK Tiff, one layer only, saved without compression. The only thing that makes this image different, is that it has some InDesign text and graphics on top of it. (I tried to remove all the text and graphics, and I also tried embedding the images before exporting, but it made no difference)
The image opens without any problems in Photoshop, and is editable. I have also tried to do a Save As under a new name, which didn't help. The image originates from my Nikon D70, but so do other images too.
The folder is due to be printed on Thursday, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

As this is a camera original file, are its resolution settings in a normal range? I.e., verify in PhotoShop that it's not trying to put >5000 pixels into either 0.1 inch or 5000 inch (your numbers may vary).
I've had ID behave erratically with such files, which was solved when I changed the resolution settings in PS.

  • LR 4.4.1 on Win 8.1 suddenly started to hang when importing via usb from camera

I'm running LR 4.4.1 on Win 8.1 on a fairly new toshiba laptop. Worked fine for a few months; but then I have been unable to solve the problem of Lightroom hanging when I try to import directly from my camera via USB. If I download pics from the camera using file manager, and then point LR at the new folder [once the camera is unplugged], it can then see the folder on the hard drive and will import them without issues. But if the camera is installed, going to the import screen hangs the application.
    I have tried:
    deleting the lock file
    installing and  running LR 5
reinstalling LR 4disabling all the usb drivers, rebooting, and enabling
disabling everything in the start menu
deleting the preferences file and letting LR build a new one..
I can import from the SD card reader, but I nervous about that as I have had card corrupted before and lost pics when downloading that way with other laptops.
The camera is a Sony NEX-5N.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

You must have Premier Elements that recognizes Videos.  Premier Elements is sometimes sold in tandem with Photoshop Elements so that both can operate seamlessly.
Amazon has got special price for buying both packages together.  I believe it is a difference of about $20, i.e. you pay 20 bucks more if you buy both products.

  • Photoshop CS3 Hangs when opening files

PS hangs when opening, duplicating images. The longer it's on the longer the wait. I'm talkin' 15 - 20 seconds. Deleted the prefs multiple times.
    Anybody else having this problem?

Set your default printer to something local, that is actually hooked up.
When Photoshop creates the document, it asks for the default printer information - and your printer driver is taking a nap while trying to connect to the printer.

  • Tecra S1 Hangs when installing XP

    Hi,
I have a weird problem. My Tecra S1 'hangs' when installing a 'normal' Windows XP Pro (instead of using the 'image DVD). The installation works fine up till the last 9 minutes...then it 'hangs', and the laptop stops working. Only possible solution is then to take out the battery & cut the power. Had a (1 time) similar problem of 'hanging' when using the image DVD
Somebody who had this before ???
Thanks a lot for all your hints & tips...

    Hej guys,
Thanks a lot for the suggestions, and indeed, I also tried other CD's of XP pro...all with the same result. At the last 9 seconds it hangs & the only thing I can do is take out the battery. Last thing I tried was installing a Win2000 pro & that works fine. Then I tried to upgrade that version, but again...it stopped at the last 9 seconds.... :-((, so perhaps indeed I have to look in the direction of the memory problem ???

Why is Lightroom 5 hanging when trying to export images?

I've been having the same issues, mainly with videos.  Any resolution to your issue yet?

  • How do I delete images from the Lightroom Catalog that are no longer on my computer!?

Something went wront on an ingest of my images. I think I tried correcting it by going into my /workingfiles folder were they were stored and deleting them manually. I'm sure I checked to see if I could do it through Lightroom, but maybe I missed the folder they were put in. I am guessing that is what happened so Lightroom still has a small image of them somewhere and will no longer let me re-import them. Any ideas on what I can do to get out of this mess? Thanks.
    Image Ingester Pro 3
    Lightroom 4.3
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64

They are not showing up in Lightroom at all. I already deleted them.
When I try to import them again into Lightroom it wants to add another 2012 folder to wherever I am trying to insert them and then it does the month/day folder when it already has the month folder it should automatically go into and not be adding a seperate 2012 folder first.
I can't even get it to do the above right now. Now all it does is it wants to make this seperate 2012 folder with the month/day folders but has little boxes beside each folder showing that there are no images to import. The images do show up on the import screen but they are all darkened and unchecked. When I click the proper folder to import them they come on bright and have little boxes checked, but that lasts for less than a second before it decides they are not new. They are new images, I deleted them all out of Lightroom, and probably missed deleting some through Lightroom but instead deleted them straight from the folder outside of Lightroom. This is what is probably causing me such grief and I have found nothing in my searches to tell me how to correct this. *sigh*
