Lightroom imports images with strange settings

Hi people,
I'm not new to LR at all. In fact, I teach LR and RAW image workflow.
But this issue struck me cold with no answers.
I took some photos with my D800 and a WhiBal (WB card).
To my surprise, all the images turned out yellow when I imported them to LR. Now I have no colour settings what so ever to the import process. As a photographer, I do my own colour process per image and not during import session.
When I select an image after the import, I see applied contrast, HSL, vibrance and what not, that are applied to my images.
Why does it happen and what can I do to disbale it? It's nowhere in the settings.
I use LR 4.4 and latest RAW engine.

When I select an image after the import, I see applied contrast, HSL, vibrance and what not, that are applied to my images.
This usually only happens for two reasons…
a) you selected a develop preset right in the Import window, but it sounds as if you've already ruled that out.
b) you have inadvertently changed the develop defaults by holding down the option key and pressing Set as Default in the Develop module (bottom). If the current image has had any develop settings those will become your new defaults. You can undo this by ALT-pressing Set as Default again and reverting to the Adobe defaults.
(I don't think you grey card has anything to do with it. All images you import should show these unwanted develop settings.)

  • DO NOT import images with no extension

    If you import import images with no extension (I have lots of those from Mac OS 9 days) by reference and then consolidate them with the Move option you will encounter a serious problem (at least with Aperture 1.5.1. on an Intel Mac).
    If you quit Aperture and launch it again, the thumbnails for those images will show as being referenced and broken. But another part of Aperture believes that they are in the library. The result is that your images ARE in the library, but are unaccessible to Aperture.
    You can repair this by fixing the contents of the apfile and renaming the image file, but it is a major pain to do this on a large scale.
    Here is the problem I encountered:
    http://homepage.mac.com/bagelturf/files/dbe9ea5dec3f703abb4efece1249d894-682.htm l
    And here is the solution:
    http://homepage.mac.com/bagelturf/files/8a3a218630e2b36136612e19b4495ba6-683.htm l

    Which version?
    This is not my experience in 1.5.1: files without extensions are silently ignored, no? That's annoying enough!
    Unfortunately, I have a lot of Genuine Fractals files that can't even be catalogued, let alone viewed. I have to keep using Portfolio, which deals with GF files just fine.

               we had code for create three folder 1) Low Resolution - This folder image used in Thumbnail view(imaze size 300 X 150)
                2) Mid Resolution - This folder image used in slideshow and it's image size is 1000 X 600
                3)High Resolution - This folder image used in report generation  and its image size is original as user import from original source.

  • Importing images with Lightroom 2  & Camera RAW 4.5

    The following query has been raised with Adobe Technical Support (5 days ago and I am still waiting for a response/reply. They claim to reply within 24 hours but they have not on this occasion......they seem to be ignoring me
    Perhaps a fellow user can help to identify or resolve the problem.
    Operating System:
    Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 3)
    Software:
    Adobe Design Premium CS3 (10.0.1); Photoshop Lightroom 1.4 (which was working fine) and Lightroom 2 (on trial and not working particularly well)
    I am using a trial download of Photoshop Lightroom 2 (with Camera RAW 4.5 in Photoshop CS3).
    I am having a few problems with editing Lightroom 2 images in Photoshop CS3 but I understand that Adobe is currently investigating a solution to this problem.
    I have also noticed another potential problem since I have started to import images from a computer drive to Lightroom 2 and converting the Manufacturers RAW files to DNG (with the option to leave the files at their current location/drive).
    My RAW and JPEG files open ok in Camera RAW (v 4.5) for basic editing and subsequently to Photoshop for more detailed work. The problem is that all my images are now opening as Smart Objects by default in Photoshop CS3, as opposed to opening as a Background layer". (I have not knowingly opted to use the Open as Smart Object option.
    I am not entirely sure how this came about but I have also lost the capacity to edit images with empty Levels adjustment layers or percentage (%) grey fill option).
    I am able to highlight the respective layer and create the empty Levels adjustment layer, change the blend mode to either Multiply or Screen, fill the Layer Mask with Black (Alt & backspace), change the opacity level as desired, select the brush tool and change the foreground colour to white to enable the applicable Dodge or Burn processes.
    Unfortunately, it does not function irrespective of the preferred opacity level. The Dodge or Burn feature is static with no effect on the image.
    I cannot recall any settings to open all files as Smart Objects in Photoshop CS3 but would welcome some help in identifying such a setting if it exists. Alternatively, I would welcome any other suggested methods of correcting the above difficulties.
    The same difficulties are evident when I try to use the Dodge or Burn features via the Edit and Fill option with a percentage of Grey and the Overlay Blend Mode.
    The "Common Denominator" of the above difficulties appear to be Lightroom 2 and Camera RAW 4.5 (individually and or collectively) and now I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.
    Are any other users experiencing similar issues or have any suggestions about how I might correct or resolve these problems? ......
    I am not afraid of hearing or accepting that the "Dummy Factor" has played some part or how I may release myself from the said "Dummy Factor".....any help is welcome help.
    Adobe Technical Support seems to be ignoring me......I wonder why?
    Regards
    Bob Wallace

    Essentially you are wrapping the raw image data into a special type of layer, a "smart object". You can then revisit and fine tune the Camera Raw conversion as often as you want and take advantage of working directly on the raw data in its pre-Photoshop purity. You can also apply to this smart object layer a number of Photoshop adjustments and filters - and again redo and fine tune them as often as you wish.
    You'll find them explained in a number of recent books. I know Scott Kelby is keen on them, there are examples on Russell Brown's site, and my own book last year on B&W strongly advocated their use.
    Have a play.

  • Rename Lightroom 4.4 imported images with unique numbers?

    I want to rename images imported from a card into Lightroom 4.4 with a single set of initials followed by a sequence of unique numbers. I would like the number sequence to continue from one import to the next. However, each time I start a new import, Lightroom starts again at 00001. Is there a way to instruct Lightroom to automatically continue the renumbering sequence from one import to the next WITHOUT manually resetting the "start" number each time?

    What you described was my filenaming convention exactly, for a long while.
    I constructed the unique numbers using:
    shoot-name (enter number)
    file-number (aka filename-number-suffix).
    Pros: accomplishes the goal, and filenames are *very* short.
    Cons: you have to manually manage job shoot number in case image-number rolls over.
    If Lightroom supported folder number, then all would be well, since unique number would simply be:
    {folder-number}{file-number}.
    But, Lightroom doesn't (support folder number).
    My new filenaming convention assures uniqueness using a combination of date-time and some other stuff:
    {date}{photographer-initials}{time}{camera-designation}{image-number}.{extension}
    Pros: supported by Lr native filenaming features (although I don't use Import dialog box for importing, nor native Lightroom for naming). And, alphabetical order is same as capture time order, except divvied by photographer (note: *not* divvied by camera photographer used, unless both were used during the same second).
    Cons: *very* verbose, and not very readable.
    So to answer your question more specifically: No: I'm not aware of any sequence number which accomplishes your goal exactly, but yes: there is a way without it.

  • Importing images with text into Final cut pro

    I'm using FC Studio on a 15" Powerbook 1.67 GHZ 1.5 GB RAM OSX 10.4.9 with a 300GB external HD.
    I'm editing a short film and am using some still images. I've successfully imported and used photographs edited in photoshop. I'm trying to import what is essentially a screen shot of a MSword Doc consisting of boxes, text and graphics.
    I've exported the word doc to PDF and imported to photoshop with 300dpi and saved as both jpeg and png. When viewed in photoshop the resolution of the text appears normal. It imports sucessfully but when viewed in full size in the timeline or external monitor the resolution of the text is terrible. I've also tried adjusting the scale of the image in the Canvas.
    I've read up on this issue a little and have tried reducing and increased the image size and dpi. Has anyone else tried to import still images with text??
    I apolgise if this issue has already been addressed - I've tried using the solutions provided for still images (without text) but have come up against a wall!
    I would appreciate any help or feedback!

    I have used Adobe Illustrator saved out as.png with great results.

  • Importing images with folder structure

    Hi
    I want to import images into Lightroom that are on my hard disk but keeping the existing folder structure.  When I try this, even if I tick include sub folders, the images import but all within the parent folder - all sub folders are ignored.
    Is there a way around this?
    Many thanks

    Are you selecting "Add" at the top of the import dialog when importing?  That preserves folder structure by adding them to the Lightroom catalog in-place.

  • Help! Trying to import image with transparent background

    I'm trying to import a picture that has a transparent backgound so when i layer it over video its just the picture itself not the canvas it was made on.
    In photo shop I made it on a transparent canvas.
    Whats my next step?

    Thank you.
    I have made my image with a transparent background in photoshop, now I need to bring it into final cut pro maintaining that transparent background, so I can layer it on video.
    How to I do this?

  • Importing images with Aperture 2.1 Trial

    I've installed the latest trial version of Aperture and have tried importing images from one of my external hard discs, but having navigated to the folder containing the images I want to download, (all of which are RAW files from my Nikon D300), no thumbnails show up and Aperture tells me there are no images that I can import.
    I've navigated to other folders that contain various other kinds of image files, (e.g. .JPG and .TIF files), and still Aperture won't display them for import. However, when I connect my camera direct to my laptop and navigate to its folder, no problem! Up come the thumbnails and I can import as many as I want.
    Does anyone have any idea what might be going wrong? i.e. Why can't I import RAW files from my external hard disc?
    Many thnaks,
    Chris

    I'm having the opposite trouble. All of a sudden, Aperture refuses to show thumbnails or download images from my Nikon D-50, but I can get them using Image Capture and then import from the hard disk.

  • Imported images with poor quality

    Hello,
    why when I import images from Photoshop into InDesign project, do they lose quality ?
    thanks

    Ha!
    Well, it's also worth noting that InDesign, by default, displays lower quality previews of the images when they are placed (to speed up processing and display). You can view the full resolution images by going to View > Overprint Preview, or by changing the options in View > Display Performance.

  • Just set up lightroom 5 and imported images with sequence number but wanted image number.  How do I renumber all images in lightroom with an image number?

    How do I renumber all images in lightroom with an image number?

    Try line-height: 19px; and display: block; (as shown) on the following css seletor :
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a {
         font-family: Lucida Sans Unicode, Lucida Grande, sans-serif;
         color: #CC6;
         text-decoration: none;
         padding-top: 10px;
         padding-right: 12px;
         padding-bottom: 10px;
         padding-left: 12px;
         line-height: 19px;
         display: block;
    Normally setting a height on a container which you have no control over is not a good idea. The text can be enlarged and that will throw everything off. The best way is to set no heights at all but use padding and make sure your background image is flexible enough to accommodate the text enlargement.
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a {
          padding: 12px 12px;
         display: block;

  • Lightroom import images error message

    I have installed a new version of lightroom onto my new MAC, and I am unable to import my images into LR.
    I receive the error message...the following files were not imported because they could not be read... I am able to load the files on a 2nd mac with no problem.  I have tried unistalling and reinstalling LR, with no luck.  What is going on????  This is so frustrating.  I am an avid LR user since version 1 &2 on a PC(new to the MAC world), could it be the MAC?...., however, I cannot figure this one out??
    Thanks
    Rochelle

    I know the message talks of reading, but that one sometimes crops up when the files can't be written. Make very sure that you have write access to the folders that you are copying or moving the images into. Just as an experiment, try Adding a photo from some folder on your hard disk. (Add imports the photo without changing its location.) If that works, it will strongly suggest that you need to change permissions on the recieving disk/folder.
    Also, if you are writing to an external hard disk, make sure it's not formatted NTFS. Macs can read those disks, but not write to them. To share a disk between Macs and PCs, you need to format FAT32.

  • How to import images with path embedded in XML tag

    I have a website that has blogs with embedded images. I need to design an XML that can be imported in Indesign. I am able to import XML and lay it out in Indesign if I have only text. But I am not able to include or show the intermittent, embedded images in Indesign. Can this be done? -Thanks

    I can drag an image from, for example, the desktop, but if I delete that file on the desktop I won't be able to open that image in iPhoto, even if I've imported it
    That's an indication that you may have your library set up as a referenced library:
    Check the Advanced preferences in iPhoto to see if that checkbox is selected or not.  If it isn't checkec, check it and try importing agan.
    To make sure all Photo Stream photos are automatically imported into your library set up iPhoto's PS preferences like this:
    You should read this User Tip by Terence Devlin which is the best treatise on how to access photos (for use outside of iPhoto):  How to Access Files in iPhoto

  • Lightroom  - imported images corrupted

    Hi,
    I am using LR3.3 and have a Canon 7D.  When importing my images, some are corrupt.  I have ruled out my card reader as some images are still corrupted when imported directly from the camera. If I open the image from the SD card using PS CS5, the image is fine.  SO this suggests the problem rests with LR.  I have also tried importing the same images using LR2.  Some images are corrupted following import, but not necessarily the same ones as in LR3.  I have attached a copy of one corrupt image.
    Could anyone suggest what the issue might be?
    Regards,
    Hugh

    Hugh,
    If you do a search in the forum, you will see that this issue comes up from time-to-time.  It is nearly always a hardware issue.  (I say "nearly" only to cover myself.  ASAIK, it has always turned out to be hardware and not LR.)  Some of the things it can be:
    -memory card
    -card reader
    -USB connector or cable
    -hard drive (even when it tests okay)
    -memory (even when it tests okay)
    You have to follow the entire pathway through to see where it fails, checking things one by one.  Keep in mind that many software programs will only look at the embedded JPEG preview and it can be fine while the main image is corrupted.  LR works in different ways than other software programs and can show problems that others have not seen (yet).  Some hardware issues will show up in random ways as well.
    Good luck in searching it out.  Some of the many previous responses to this issue may provide additional suggestions.
