Lightroom imports with 100 clarity

Hello people,
i have the strange problem that lightroom imports always with 100 clarity. There is definitely something wrong with my presets, just don't know how to change that. Thanks for any suggestions, tobfl

If you apply a preset during the import process, that preset will be applied to all images that are imported. Another way to apply a preset to all images would be to have multiple images highlighted in the develop module and have auto-sync enabled.
The first thing I would suggest that you try is to reset the clarity on one of those newly imported images, changing nothing else. Then, save new camera defaults. Then I would check in your import dialog to make sure you haven't chosen a preset to be applied during the import process. Next, take a test image and import it.

  • Lightroom crashes on import with Samsung Android Phone plugged in USB

I went to import some photos taken on a Samsung Galaxy S3 phone into Lightroom 5.5 via USB.  Plugging in the phone with import selected or selecting import with the phone already plugged in crashes Lightroom, every time.  Now, I can copy the pictures to the computer and then presumably import them, but Lightroom shouldn't crash when a smartphone is plugged in...

Funny I should find this post on my first web search - I just updated from v5.4 to v5.5 only 10 minutes ago and *BLAMMO*  . . . Lightroom crashes as soon as I hit the Import button when my Samsung Galaxy S III is attached via USB.  This is on Windows 7 64-bit.
Lightroom v5.4 has been happily importing files from the same phone all along, so something has regressed in v5.5, it seems.  Importing from a USB storage device should be relatively straightforward.
EDIT: I uninstalled v5.5 and reinstalled v5.4 - it imports without problems using the same scenario that crashed v5.5 above.
Little help, Adobe?  Please?  I'm willing to send logs, test various scenarios, etc.

  • FAQ: Will Lightroom work with my camera, or Why won't my raw files open?

    What is a raw file?
A raw file is the unprocessed data that was captured by your camera sensor when you took your picture. The only settings on your camera that apply to this file are aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. This means that any effects you may have applied to the file, such as white balance or black and white, may not appear in Lightroom. Your camera will create a JPEG copy of your raw file with all current settings applied and save that within the raw file for use as a thumbnail by most applications. When you first view a raw file in Lightroom, you will see this thumbnail, then Lightroom will read the raw data and create its own thumbnail, which may have a different appearance.
How does Lightroom work with raw camera files?
Lightroom interprets the raw data and makes image information out of it. But every camera has a unique sensor and thus has a unique form of raw file. Even though camera manufactures may use the same file extension each time (e.g. Nikon raw files are always .NEF), each camera model has a different way of storing information. Because of this, we must continually update Lightroom for new cameras. As we add new cameras to the list (over 300 now) we update our published list of supported cameras.
Will the raw files from my camera work with Lightroom?
To determine whether your camera is supported by Lightroom, check this list:
    Supported cameras
Go to Help > Updates to install the latest release. You can also manually download and install Lightroom updates:
    Macintosh
    Windows
What if I own a previous version of Lightroom?
Supposing you have a camera that came out after the release of a newer version of Lightroom, so that your version of Elements is no longer recieving updates, you have two basic options:
Purchase the latest version of Lightroom that supports your camera.
Use the latest version of the free DNG Converter (for Macintosh or Windows)
You can convert your files to the universaly compatible DNG format (the files will work with any version of the Lightroom). See In depth : Digital Negative (DNG) for more information.

Can I perform tethered capture from my camera to Lightroom?
Lightroom has the ability to automatically import images from your camera, as you shoot, life. To learn more about setting up and useing tethered capture, please see Import photos from a tethered camera. This list shows all the cameras that Lightroom supports for tethered shoooting:

Will Lightroom help me automatically compensate for the image distortion caused by my camera lens?
The Develop module of Lightroom includes Lens Correction which can read what lens was used from the metadata. With this information it can pick a profile that will reduce distortion caused by the curvature of the lens. For a list of which lenses are supported by which camera bodies, see this list:
    Lens profile support | Lightroom 4, 3
If your lens is not currently supported, you have a few options:
    Apply the lens correction manually
Use the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader (Download: Mac, Win) to see if someone else has created a profile your camera and lens
Use the Adobe Lens Profile Creator (Download: Mac, Win) to make your own profile for your camera and lens.

  • How do I stop Lightroom importing my Photoshop files?

Hi - I have asked this question elsewhere, but perhaps someone here has had a similar experience. In my Lightroom catalogue, I often need to open a raw (dng) file in Photoshop, work on it there and save the result as a jpeg. The jpeg is then sent to a client after which I have no further use for it, so normally I would delete it. However I find that every time I 'save as' in Photoshop, Lightroom imports that file into its database. The only exception is if I choose 'save for web' in Photoshop. I'm told that this behaviour is wrong - that LR shouldn't automatically import these images. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how do I solve it?
    (Mavericks, LR5.3, CS6)
    Thanks,
    Alex

I don't use Photoshop, but from what I've read, images sent to Photoshop via 'Edit In' should be 'Saved' not 'Save As'. The jpeg should then be exported from Lightroom.
I am sure there are those on the forum with a greater Knowledge in this process.

  • Rename Images on Import with Orig. Camera Number Plus My Custom Text

Lightroom starts up with the insertion of a camera card to import new images. Every effort takes multiple stumbling around and eventually have gotten it to use the Original Camera Number. Thought it was saved as a Template. Then the next time it still goes back to using a Sequence Number "IMG_001". It does this even with the built in Templates. What LR says and what Actually is done Do NOT Match Up!! And I have been all over the web watching various videos and followed the video steps Still is not doing what it says should happen. VERY Frustrated.
Trying to find a Community for Lightroom - can't even find that!

When I open the import window the *Aperture Library* brick shows Destination as New Project and *Project Name* as Untitled Project. If I import with these settings a new project *Untitled Project* is created and the images import into it.
If I enter a new name in the *Project Name* box then the imports go into a project with that name.
Are you entering a name into the *Project Name* box?

  • Lightroom Import / Vista Problems?

Ok, this is my first day trying to use Lightroom, but whenever I attempt to import files *.jpgs from either a memory card or another folder on the computer, I receive the following error message:
"The following files were not imported. Could not copy a file to the requested location."
I am using Windows Vista and and have full permissions to the folders I am attempting to import from and to. Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!!

Kenneth, I'm glad to hear that importing is working for you in Vista. My experience has not been the same. I'm curious how you are doing the import. Are you having it copy the files "into one folder" or using the "By Original Folders" import option? Those seem to work under Vista.
    On Tuesday (
Jeff Billimek, "LR cannot copy or move images during import on Vista..." #4, 20 Feb 2007 4:05 am) I reported:
"When selecting anything other than 'Into One Folder' or 'By Original Folders' in the Organize dropdown, the error we're reporting occurs. If I try to, for example, import with the Organize dropdown selecting 'By Date: 2005/12/20', the error happens regardless if that directory already exists with proper permissions. In fact, Lightroom actually creates the directory. The error also happens no matter where the files-to-be-imported lay. If they are on a flash drive, on the local hard drive, or on the local hard drive within the same local tree as the target import, the same thing happens. It also happens when running under XP SP2 compatibility mode and/or Lightroom being run as Administrator."
It appears to be a problem (regardless if you are running in compatibility mode) when importing using any other option than those two.
I've verified this multiple times and also verified that the same import works under XP or OSX.
This is why I think that the FAQ needs to be updated because it isn't necessarily true that copying the files to the HD first or even running in XP compatibility mode will solve the problem.

  • I have a presentation with  100 slides. During the first 10 slides I want one song to start playing from slide

I have a presentation with +100 slides. During the first 10 slides I want one song to start from the beginning, at the 11th slide a new song starts from the beginning, and so on during the entire presentation. How do I do? Thanks in advance. janfromfinland

This is a very common request which unfortunately has not been satisfactorily answered albeit for very complicated workarounds using multiple duplicates of your keynote file and hyperlinking them.
The easiest alternative is to have iTunes play in the background timed to begin when you manually start the keynote. You can create a playlist so the tracks run into each other, or better yet combine them into one track using a free editor like GarageBand. You'll need to rehearse your timings. Hopefully, youre not trying to match lyrics with words or animations as this is not the most exact way to do so.
The alternative is to create a separate keynote file of those 10 slides and export them to QuickTime, reimport the movie into keynote and add the music track to the file. That will give more accurate timing. The  most accurate timing would be tom import the QuickTime movie into iMovie and add the soundtrack with exact timings. Ive done this successfully except for the fact that exporting this way fools around with any build timings.
S the final alternative is to do your first 10 slides with music from iTunes and advance the slides manually using screenflow or the latest QuickTime in lion to record the screen Inc music.
All troublesome but doable workarounds until Apple comes to our aid.

  • Lightroom stalling with usb2 drive

i have an external usb2 100G drive. I have lately transfer my library to it. I can launch Lightroom, import, save to the drive, and everything I would expect. However, if I then go to another image and it has to go back to the usb drive to load the image, it stalls. I get the color pinwheel and it is totally frozen. I have tried only launching lightroom and other various things.
It seems to be stalling when having to communicate back and forth with a usb drive. My other programs don't have this problem, photoshop, etc.... but I am assuming that is because the current file is kept in memory.
Any suggestions? I keep my main data on Firewire and don't have the problem. I recently got the usb to talk on location and keep backups of files.

  • Does Lightroom work with Photoshop Elements

Does Lightroom work with Photoshop Elements?

When setting up the editor in the prefs choose images of 8 bits not 16 bits, either PSD or tiff. Elements works best with 8 bit images. For example you can't use layers with 16 bit images.
Once you have set up the LR prefs you are ready to make the round trip:
    1) Ctrl+E in the Library to export selected image with develop settings or right-click and choose Open In Photoshop Elements Editor
    2) Make your adjustments in Photoshop Elements; then Ctrl+S to replace (overwrite) Lightroom export copy
    3) Ctrl+W to close in Photoshop Elements and update Lightroom thumbnail.
    On Mac OSX Cmd+E; Cmd+S; Cmd+W
The important point is to overwrite the LR export copy by using File >> Save (Ctlr+S) because a tiff or PSD file has been automatically rendered by LR based upon your preference setting for External Editing. If you use “Save As” you create a new document which LR knows nothing about. It will only show in the LR Library if you save.

Yesterday I installed cc and when I open LR5 I need a serial number.
What do I do/how do I get one?
    Please help, Thank you.

Your photos remain in place, the catalog you have been using will remain. After you install Lightroom from the CC, all you have to do is open your existing catalog and continue right where you left off.

  • Queue consumer stops with 100% cpu usage

I'm trying to use Berkeley DB queue with transactions. When I tested what happens when transactions with DB_APPEND are aborted I found that while it works and DB_CONSUME correctly skips over rolled back records, unfortunately extents that have those records are never deleted, which causes database to always grow. Next I tried DB_CONSUME with database opened using DB_INORDER flag and it seems there's a serious regression in Berkeley DB that causes it to loop indefinitely with 100% cpu usage when it encounters a rolled back record. I tested various versions and found that this bug doesn't happen with 5.1.29, but it is reproducible with 5.2.42, so this regression might have been introduced in 5.2. I have also tested 5.3 and 6.0, and both have this behavior. There may be something wrong with the way queue records are rolled back, one indication of that would be that in 5.1.29 doesn't have neither of the two problems I found with DB_QUEUE: extents are deleted after being consumed, and there are no issues when consuming with DB_INORDER either.
You can find Python code to reproduce this issue here:
    https://gist.github.com/snaury/027a3c546f5b0a62a440
Sorry for using Python and not e.g. C++, but it's a lot shorter that way.

We have looked at the issues and they are valid.   We will roll the fixes out for this in our next release of BDB.   The test case was very useful and really helped to speed the process up.    If you have any questions, please contact me directly at [email protected]  Thanks again for bringing this to our attention.
