Lightroom in not showing my Macs hard drive

I am opening lightroom and wanting to catalog the images on my mac hard drive and move them onto an external drive, but the mac drive is not showing in Lightroom

Have the images on the Mac hard drive been imported into Lightroom?
To expand on that question, Lightroom is not a typical file browser that shows everything on your hard drive. Files must be imported into Lightroom. That import process doesn't really move the images anywhere. It simply shows Lightroom where they are located, and then keeps track of all the adjustments made to those images. If the images haven't been imported into Lightroom yet then you would be wise to move them to the external hard drive first and organize them. Then you can import and everything will be organized in Lightroom.
I apologize if I have misunderstood your question.

  • Switched on my imac 24inch intel based and all I get on screen is a folder with question mark flashing,I had backup on external hard drive but when I try to reinstall it can not find my mac hard drive

Hi when I started my intel based imac this morning all I am getting is a folder with question mark in the middle flashing,I have external hard drive with backup, but when run disc utilities it does not show my mac hard drive.hope someone can help.(it's running mountain lion, well it was)

Try starting up your Mac while holding down the Option key. That should prompt the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk then click Restart.
The question mark folder indicates your Mac cannot find a system folder to boot from.
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac

  • Disk Utility does not show my internal hard drive.

    Recently, my Macbook Pro crashed.
    THE PROBLEM
    1. I turn it on, it starts normally at first, the Apple Logo Shows for several seconds
    2. It changes to a no-smoking sign without the cigarette
    3. If I try to boot safe mode, a folder appears with a question mark
    4. If I try the internet recovery, I get to the part where I can restore OSX, use disk utility, etc.
    5. When I try to restore OSX, it doesn't show my hard drive as avilable to install upon - no drives are shown
    6. When I try to use disk utility, it only shows my Mac Base System, totaling 2GB, I cannot do anything.
    THE QUESTIONS
    1. What do I do? Thoughts? How do I recover my hard drive data before sending this computer to Apple to fix?
    2. How can I use an external enclosure to recover my data using my desktop? What cords do I need? What is a good drive? Is it hard?
    3. My SD card slot shows, could I install OSX on that and try to load my OSX to gain access to my harddrive that's missing?
    4. Why would my main hard drive not show? I'm supposed to have a 250GB hard drive.
    5. Is there anything I can do on Terminal to try to make my full hard drive appear? Or gain access?
    6. What will Apple do with my RAM that I installed? I upgraded to 8GB? Will they just return as is?
    Thank you.

Youre working the wrong end trying to revive a dying drive, a replacement is only $65
Did you have a backup of your vital data?
Terminal isnt going to do anything to help your HD.
    questions:
    1.  get a new HD, install OS........recovery internal HD data using another computer and throwing the internal HD into a USB enclosure to extract data......however depending on the HD, data extraction may prove futile.
    2. external USB enclosure, comes with USB cable....takes 3 mins to put internal HD into enclosure.
    3. no,...... installing OS on a dying drive is beating a dead horse,...
    4. because its dead/ dying.
    5. no
    6. Yes, they wont mess with your RAM.
Contact Apple for fix, of if you have the skills you can install a new HD yourself

  • New cube laptop - not showing Maxtor external hard-drive in windows explorer, but showing up in Device manager.

    Hi
If anyone is able to give me some advice I'd really appreciate it. I have seen similar issues on here and tried uninstalling then re-installing the driver which seemed to fix the similar issue on someone's Windows 7 system but it doesn't seem
to have worked for me. I also tried using the usb 2 drive rather than the usb 3.
I have a new cube laptop with Windows 8 (which I'm not used to yet at all) and am trying to access the files from the Maxtor hard-drive from my old pc. The hard-drive does not show up under file explorer but seems to appear in device manager. The
laptop makes noises occasionally as if it is detecting some hardware but not showing it.
    Can anyone suggest a fix?
    Thanks in advance
    Sadie

    Hi,
    Apologize for the late reply.
How about the situation by now?
Could the external hard drive be shown in the
    disk management?
Or take a look at the format of that hard drive(list disks) with diskpart command:
A Description of the Diskpart Command-Line Utility
Check if the format is NTFS.
Also please take a look at the following article:
Help! After installing Windows 8.1, my USB drive disappears or file transfers
    stop unexpectedly…
    Hope this may help

  • Just updated iPhone 5 to ios7.  Now when I plug in, iTunes does not download photos, and iPhone is not showing as a hard drive on my computer.  Windows used to have a pop up to download photos, which is no longer there.  iTunes is updated and iCloud isoff

I also recently installed Norton 360, but that was eliminated via Norton Help.  They remoted in, removed Norton 360 and problem persisted - iPhone did not show on the "Computer" window, and no pop-up to download photos even with no antivirus installed.  Norton help advised to uninstall and reinstall iTunes, which seemed a bit excessive.  Any other fixes I can try before an uninstall and reinstall?

Your iPhone is in recoverty mode at the moment so to possibly get it back up and running you would need to do a restore as you have been trying. Follow the steps in the article below for the specific error messages you have been receiving. If after following all steps the issue remains book an appointment at a local Apple Retail Store to have the iPhone evaluated.

  • Back up files not showing in external hard drive

Looks like back up is performing although when I check the contents of my external hard drive nothing in there past 2012.
Do I need to select specific items from somewhere?

Open System Preferences > Time Machine
You should see the last time it was backed up.
Verify that you have the correct drive selected.
You should see something like this:

In Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes". (no quotes)
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1 or 2 if there are no real files in them, and reboot.

heidie22, dj_paige has a very good point there. I would not through away the NEF files; I would archive them to a external drive.
By the way, I am assuming that converting RAW files to DNG is a decision you have made and not an accident.

  • How come my mac isnt showing my external hard drive after installing os x maverick? and how to i fix that??

how come my mac isnt showing my external hard drive after installing os x maverick? and how to i fix that??

How do you mean it isn't showing the external drive?  If you mean on the desktop, click Finder on the menu bar, Preferences, General and check the boxes for Show these items on the desktop - make sure hard drives is checked.
If you mean it is not showing in Finder or Disk Utility, make sure it is turned on, reboot and see if that mounts it so it shows up.

  • I have an alias of one of my external hard drives in my trash. When I click on "show original" all my external H D 's and my Mac hard drive show up. How do I delete this icon from the trash without loosing all my files?

I have an alias of one of my external hard drives in my trash. When I tried to delete it, it showed that I was deleting 80,000 files and counting. I stopped the delete process and when I clicked on "show original" all my external H.D.'s and my Mac hard drive show up. How do I delete this alias from the trash without loosing all my files? When I tried to drag it back to the desk top, it just made a duplicate and remained in the trash. When I turned off the external H.D., the trash was then empty. Tried rebooting the computer and then turning the external hard drive back on and the alias shows up in the trash again. Much help appreciated.

  • I am not much of a computer technician. I bought a time capsule thinking I could use this for an external hard drive and keep my MAC hard drive free. Was I mistaken? One I back everthing up on the TC, can I delete everything off of my MAC?

I am not much of a computer technician. I bought a time capsule thinking I could use this for an external hard drive and keep my MAC hard drive free. Was I mistaken? Once I back everything up on the TC, can I delete everything off of my MAC and then use my TC as my hard drive??

Once I back everything up on the TC, can I delete everything off of my MAC and then use my TC as my hard drive??
TC was designed to backup your Mac. The TC literature is pretty clear about this:
If your Mac's hard drive has a problem....it will sooner or later....you can use your backup on the TC to rebuild your Mac.
But.....if you move all of your data to the TC from your Mac....you only have one version of that data now, and it is on the TC.
Have you thought about what will happen when....not if....the TC has a problem?  Since the only version of your important data was on the TC, and the TC has failed......you lose all of your data.....because you have no backup.
A much better plan would be to add a USB or FireWire hard drive and connect it directly to your Mac. Move the data on your Mac over to the hard drive.
Then, the TC will backup both your Mac and the hard drive.  So, you have original data on on one drive and backups on another drive.
That would be a minimum backup plan. Most of us have more than one set of backups.

Is there a way to stop iPhoto storing my photo stream photos on the mac hard drive when enabled? They have not been imported to my library. I have no photos saved on my MacBook Air yet 50gb of Hardrive space is taken up by photos. When I turn off photo stream on iCloud preferences the memory is freed up. I like to be able to access my icloud photo streams on
my macbook but it has a small Hardrive and loosing that much space is annoying and it kind of voids the point of photo streams. Is there a way I can stop

Is there a way I can stop
    this ?
No, Photo Stream is syncing with iCloud. The most recent 1000 photos in iCloud will be buffered on your mac, even if you do not import them to your photo library, if you enable My Photo Stream.
See this link:   iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
iCloud pushes all your photos to the My Photo Stream album on your devices and computers, and manages them efficiently, so you don’t run out of storage space.

  • I have a 3rd party SSD to put in my mac mini how do i get osx on it i do not have a external hard drive

I want to put a 3rd party SSD in my mac mini and I no how to put in inside the mac mini but, how do I get osx on it preferably Yosemite I do not have a external hard drive just the one that comes with the mac mini and my 3rd party internal SSD please help me.

The easy way is to Purchase an External Enclosure like the Startech USB 3.0 S2510BPU33 with UASP, its a Super Fast connection, SATA 3.1 @ 6 Gb/s.
Just Pop your SSD inside the enclosure and use OS X Disk Utility to clone your existing HDD. This enclosure is So Fast you would not even have to open up your Mini to install the SSD, just Boot Externally you would Never Know the difference and your Warranty won't be affected by opening it up.
What Mini do you have ?

I try several solutions as :
    - rebooting in safe mode,
    - rebooting, with in the same time, hold different keys (option, apple, p & R)...
As of today, no solution works.

Ok, that's good enough. You may be able to repair this with the 10.5.8 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
    EDIT:
I have around 5 Go space left on my Mac
Also, your getting very low on disk space. Try to copy some of the data off to other media. *Do it before you try applying the combo, you'll need the space.*

  • I had a second hard drive added to my Mac Pro.  How do I format it and not effect my orginal hard drive?

I had a second hard drive added to my Mac Pro.  How do I format it and not effect my orginal hard drive?

Just format it with Disk Utility as mentioned above.  Select the new disk on the list at the left.  Click the erase tab.  Specify Mac OS Extended (Journaled) if not already specified and give the disk a name of your choice.  Then click the erase button.
That's the simplest way to format a disk with a single partition (volum). If you want to create multiple volume (partitions) then click the Partition tab instead of Erase.  You can then use then specify a number of volumes and size each volume by specifying its size or just dragging the slider in the bootm right of each partition.  Give each a name as before and again Mac OS Extended (Journaled).  Click Apply button to create the partitions.
Since you appear to be new at this just "play" with the erase and partition settings so you can become comfortable with them.  So long as you have the new disk selected on the left you can't really hurt anything since it's a new disk and no data to loose.  You can always go back and erase it back to a single partition.
