Lightroom Interface Slowdown

Anyone know why I am experiencing extreme slowdowns, lockups and sometimes crashes whenever I try to hide or show a lightroom panel. I sometimes see multiple lightroom windows open in the taskbar while this is happening, if I hover over them in the task bar they are usually labeled "Bezel". My screen will flash between lightroom and whatever window is open behind lightroom while this is happening.

Ok but where are you placing them? On your internal drive? How big is the drive and how full is the drive?

This movie by Chris Orwig introduces viewers to the Photoshop Lightroom interface and a few useful shortcuts. Chris discusses the menu bar, modules, work area, left and right panels, toolbar, and Filmstrip . The essential shortcuts covered are: accessing the flags, stars, and labels; hiding or showing the toolbar and panels; minimizing specific areas of the interface; expanding or dimming Lightroom to full screen; and accessing the modules.

  • Lightroom 4 - Slowdown when exporting files

    Hi.
I'v been experiencing some slowdown on my PC when exporting files from LR4. No matter the size, or if it's .jpg or .TIFF... it always gives me some frezzes (mouse etc)
I have a high end machine, and i don't think that's the problem....
Does anyone have a similar problem or a solution?

    Windows 7 ULTIMATE x64
    Dell U2410 IPS
    Lastest ATI driver...

None either... CPU always at 0% before exporting.
But i think i found the problem, it's related to my HDD. I was reading some articles, and decided to use my HDD as AHCI instead of IDE.
I had to modify some regs to install the drivers, but after that the slowdown where almost inexistent...
Now i need to know where the problem is, if it's with HDD or motherboard..
    Thanks.

  • Photoshop/Lightroom interface

My Lightroom 3.6 suddenly don't recognized Photoshop on my computer. So I cannot edit photos from Lightroom in Photoshop anymore. What can I do?

I have recently installed Lightroom 3 and had Photoshop Elements 9 already on my iMac. Similarly the Edfit in Photoshop (elements) is not working, its greyed out. I have followed the fixes advised. Deleted the p.list on more than one occasion and reinstalled Elements (twice). Still not working. Any other options?    Thanks.

  • HELP - need registry settings in lightroom 1.2

I was frustrated w/ the import skipping avi files (YES, I know lightroom can't handle them - but would it kill it to just copy them so I don't have to go back and manually copy them???) and found the following registry entry -
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Lightroom\1.1\Adobe Photo Downloader\File Formats
There was a Image key with lots of photo extensions such as tif/jpg/cr2/etc... I added avi to this list..
When lightroom launched, it emptied out that list! Can someone please tell me what the original setting is for that Image key?
    Thanks,

Why Can't I move the Interface around on My MacBook Pro but I can on My G4 powerbook
Why is it that when I am in Lightroom in my catalog and on my external HD when I am on my daughters Mac Book Pro intel laptop
the lightroom Interface cannot be moved around on the desktop. I can only minimize the page.
but when I put the same catalog up on my G4 powerbook 12" laptop I can see the
entire Lightroom interface with menu bar and I can grab the entire interface and move it around.
this scares me to think that something is wrong with lightroom on the Intel Mac. I worry about it corrupting my catalog that I have worked hard on with importing thousands of images into and would not want to have it not be able to be backed up.
when I am on the intel mac book pro with lightroom, it sometimes will not let me back up my catalog and that makes me think that it is corrupted and not backup able. please someone help me find a reason for this
I am on lightroom 1.2 and been studying on it all summer and fall. thank you out there......

  • I am having trouble exporting photos with a watermark in lightroom 5 with windows 8

I click export, then edit watermarks, make my adjustments, click create, then export...photo gets exported without the watermark....what am I doing wrong?

Just a couple of observations that may not be of any help to you. After you click on the export button, you won't see any activity on the Lightroom interface unless you are exploring several images in which case you will see a progress bar in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. I noticed on your export settings that you have checked the option to add the exported image to the catalog, so it isn't going to automatically show up in Lightroom. You might try right clicking on the folder you are working with and choose to synchronize it and see if that will bring in those newly exported images.

  • Question Mark in black diamond in Safari and Adobe Lightroom

I have a problem with the “question mark in black diamond” phenomenon noted elsewhere in these forums. My problem is different in certain aspects, though, and I’ve found nothing which suggests a way forward in other threads.
I get the “? in black diamond” appearing in two contexts:
    (1) in the UI of the Web Module in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom when using the LRG One with PapPal Template (from lightroomgalleries.com), and selecting a currency symbol other than $ (i.e. when using £, EUR, or the Yen symbol)
    (2) when viewing web pages generated by the Lightroom Web Module with the PayPal template in Safari
In both these contexts, the currency symbol is displayed as “? in black diamond” in place of the "£" symbol.
The strange thing about this is that when I view the output in other browsers (I’ve tried IE5 for Mac, Camino, Firefox, OmniWeb and Opera), the “£” currency symbol shows up ok. However, it can’t just be a Safari issue, as the “?” shows up in the Lightroom Web Module interface as well.
I’ve posted a screenshot of the Lightroom interface here: http://www.lochaberphoto.co.uk/currency.html , and an example of gallery output here: http://www.lochaberphoto.co.uk/test2/index.html (click on the left-hand thumbnail to bring up the image page and check out the dropdown menu beneath the image).
Before posting here, I’ve tried various forums relating to Lightroom (Adobe Lightroom U2U, lightroomgalleries.com, luminouslandscape.com) but to no avail.
So this is a last chance post: hopefully one of the OS X experts here may be able to suggest a reason for this (is it a font issue? or something to do with UTF-8, or Safari’s default encoding? – I’m not a coder, but I really want to find the answer so I’ll try just about anything…), and maybe a way to solve it. BTW, I get the same experience on my G4 iMac and my MacPro, so I guess it’s not an Intel-specific issue.
Thanks in anticipation for any answers, or follow-up questions
    Jim

    Hi Tom
Thanks for this. I've tried previously changing the Default encoding in Safari Prefs to Western (ISO Latin 1), but found that did not help.
Following your advice I tried changing encoding from the View menu, and find that the £-sign displays correctly in both ISO Latin 1 and MacRoman (though not in UTF-8). The odd thing about this is that with Default Encoding in the Prefs set to either of those, I still get the ? until I go into the View menu and change from Default to Latin 1 or MacRoman, whereupon the £-sign shows up! Can't imagine how that can be. Tried closing and re-opening Safari after setting Pref to Roman 1, but still need to use the View menu to get the £-sign. Restaring the Mac doesn't help either.
So, Tom, with your help I now have a viable workaround, but as this is going to remain an issue for other Mac/ Safari users visiting my site, I'd like to find a way of preventing it happening. Can you suggest how it can be that Safari needs to be told twice (in Prefs and in View menu) to use ISO Latin 1 or MacRoman before it does so?
Look forward to any further comments
    Jim
(P.S.: It seems to me this must be linked to the fact that the ? shows up in the Lightroom interface, and that the fault lies with the PayPal gallery Template I'm using. So I'm wondering if there's anything you - or anyone else - can suggest that I can put to the developer of the Template which will enable him to resolve the issue - he's a Windows user, but has made one suggestion that I adapt the encoding in a file called transformer.xslt from it's default of ISO_8859-15 to UTF-8. I've tried that and tried also ISO_8859-1, but the issue persists regardless.)

  • Lightroom question

I have photoshop elements 9.   Does lightroom interface with this software or replace it?    Does lightroom have more capabilities?

Photoshop Elements is a cut down version of Photoshop, primarily aimed at basic graphic processing required by amateur users. Its ability to process RAW files is very limited in comparison to Lightroom.
Elements's management tool is not as sophisticated as Lightroom's. If you are going to work with Raw images a lot and you are very serious about it, Lightroom is the answer.

  • Colour Problems with Lightroom 5 Export

Apologies if this has been covered before folks.
I recently upgraded my laptop to a 64bit Windows 8 Asus with an IPS screen.
At the same time, I upgraded from Lightroom 2 to Lightroom 5, and have upgraded to 5.2.
When I export a jpeg from Lightroom, and then view that jpeg in anything (browsers, picasa, quicktime, windows bundled viewers etc) other than an Adobe product, I get a totally different colour scape: it's desaturated, the lights and darks are changed etc.
    I'm exporting in ProPhoto RGB
When I used Lightroom 2, I never had this problem.
Can anyone help? Apologies if I'm doing something stupid!
See the attached screengrabs to illustrate what I mean. The one showing the Lightroom interface is what I want to achieve, and the other one shows the results I get.

There was a strange ASUS profile there for some reason.
And that reason is probably called Windows Update. Considering the percentage of these profiles that turns out to be bad/wrong/out-of-spec/outright useless, it's a mystery that Microsoft still agrees to push them.
According to those who know, a monitor profile is a complex beast. But functionally it's very simple - it should be an accurate description of the display in question. If it isn't, it looks wrong in those applications that actually use it, like Lightroom.
But all of this assumes that the Lightroom version was actually the wrong one. That's the way it works with a bad profile.

  • Windows XP and Lightroom 4

I am very interested in Adobe Lightroom 4.  However, I don't believe it works with "WindowsXP"?  Could someone advise me as to which would be the best (and easiest) Adobe product that works with XP? Thank you!

First of all, you have to realize that we are all just users. You are not talking to Adobe employees, although occasionally someone from Adobe will comment here. Photoshop Elements is a very good place to start. I don't know anything about the software that you are using. I have never used it or even looked at their website to see what it is all about. With the camera the you have, you are probably considering shooting raw images. Photoshop Elements relies on a plug-in, Camera Raw, to process raw images. It doesn't have as many features in Photoshop Elements as it does in Photoshop. But there is a big price difference, and you may find Photoshop Elements adequate for what you need. Many people use Lightroom in addition to Photoshop Elements because Lightroom provides all of the raw editing capability that is available from Adobe. Then, they use Photoshop Elements as their external editor which can be accessed directly from the Lightroom interface. But the problem is that you cannot use Lightroom 4 with Windows XP.
The Lightroom and Camera Raw processing has improved greatly. It would be well worth your considering a new system with a more contemporary operating system. But, in the meantime, I think I would recommend that you look at Photoshop Elements and learn how to use all of the features it has to offer. If/when you decide to update your system you can still use that program. And if you decide to incorporate Lightroom into your workflow everything should work well together.
