Lightroom -- keep filters permanently on?

If I browse images in a filtered mode (say, I show only pictures with 5 stars) and then switch to a different collection, Lightroom switches to "filters off". I can turn them back on again quickly, however usually I would prefer it to stay on. Is there a way of changing this behaviour? (Particular example here is that I have many sub-collections belonging to a collection set, and I don't want to keep losing the filter when moving between those collections.)
When switching between Library and Develop, the filters stay put, just as I'd like.

Dave,
I think the padlock in the upper right is your answer:

  • ADF table : hide columns but keep filters

    Hello.
    I am using Jdev 11.1.2.3
I want to customize my display of the table, but keep the filtering functionality, is there anyway to do it without using a view criteria.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
what do you mean by "keep filtering functionality"? Do you want to keep the column header but don't show its content? If so then just set the visible property of the component in the column to false.

  • Why Lightroom keeps using 30% CPU power all the time?

    Hello all,
I am relatively new to LIghtRoom.
I started working on a new set of photos  (400 app.). I opened it as new directory.
Since then, all the time I work on theses pictures Lightroom keeps using app. 30% of CPU time.
The over all time I spent on these photos is estimated to be more then 30 hours (yes, I am slow and open each in Photoshop while Lightroom is still opened). So I guess Lightroom finished all the rendering it wished to do.
My question is why and what it keeps calculating and is there a way to stop it?
    System configuration:
Single core Intel Pentium 4 CPU, 3.6 GHz (Hyper Threading allowed)
    2 GB RAM
NVidia 6600 based graphics card (256 MB)
Both LightRoom 2.3 and PhotoShop CS4 are opened
Please help - the system is slow anyway. It can realy use those extra CPU power.

The warning badge can be switched off from within View Options panel (Library module View menu) by unchecking  the option labelled Unsaved Metadata.
With regard to your question as to whether Lr edits will show in Photoshop and Bridge/ACR - you'll be fine with Photoshop. However, for Lr edits to be visible in Bridge/ACR you will now have to manually save the metadata to each file (i.e. select file(s) then hit Cmd/Ctrl+S to save metadata to file).

  • Why does Lightroom keep disappearing out of my installed apps list in Creative Cloud?

As the title says. It keeps disappearing. Its driving me nuts. Because it isn't listed in the app list, it doesn't update. It's happened numerous times now. Only downloading and reinstalling it makes it reappear...for a little while. Then its gone the next time I check

    27" iMac. OSX 10.10.1 3.4 Ghz i7 16Gb
Photographer bundle. Lightroom and Photoshop CC.
Lightroom keeps disappearing form the installed App list.

With such little information, we can't give you an answer.

  • Lightroom keeps crashing upon opening.  Here is the message:  "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quite.  Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem the next time it launches."

I have deleted the LRdata file (I had two!!!) as suggested on this site.  Still crashing!

I had the same problem after my computer crashed (maybe due to lightroom, but I'm not sure). The only solution I found was to delete previews.db and root-pixels files. They are located in the Lightroom 5 Catalog Previews.lrdata subfolder of your catalog (it depends on its name). It's not very damageable, since you keep all the previews previously generated (located in every subfolders).

  • Lightroom keeps changing default import location; how to set it once and for all?

    Hi all,
I'm on a mac, and coming from iPhoto. After migrating to Lightroom, I made is so my photos imports from my camera into "/Pictures/LightroomMasters/year/month/day".Now, suddenly, I noticed that they end up in "/Pictures/year/month/day".
I really want Lightroom to keep importing everything inside the "Lightroom Masters"-folder, without me clicking to that location everytime I attach my camera. But going through the Preferences, and Catalouge-settings, I can not find the equivalent of "Default import location". Is there such a setting? Or is Lightroom meant to remember where is imported to last, and keep on using that?
    Thanks in advance,
    Andreas

It seems to remember the folder structure on my system. But I'm running Windows 7. I just tested it by inserting a memory card and importing the images on it, I don't connect cameras to my computer, to my E drive and to a folder named Pictures 2015. I had LR place these images in a sub-folder of that Picture 2015 with the date in the format of 20150201 and which these picture were taken on the 30th of January so the folder was 20150130. I then closed LR and reopened it and took some more shots around the house and then imported those. LR import dialog went right back to that E drive \Pictures 2015 folder and placed those newer images in a folder named 20150201.
So it remembered which drive and which top level folder it was supposed to. Not sure it it would work with a secondary sub-folder under the Pictures 2015 folder.
To be honest I rarely use the import from memory card feature of LR. I don't care for the naming conventions it offers. I do use the Adobe Photo Downloader applet that comes with PS Bridge as the naming convention in that creates sub-folders with just the month and day in this format 0201. I don't need the year tacked on to the front of that sub-folder name, although it can do that, as I store all my images by years to begin with. Then I import to LR from those folders the APD app creates.
If you are using more than one camera it might remember for each camera so from now on it will go back to the right folder.

  • As of 3/30 when using the App for Facebook, when I log off of Facebook, it keeps me permanently logged into Facebook. If I use Safari to log into Facebook, I have no problem logging off. Is there a problem with the Facebook App??

As of 3/30/13, when logging off of Facebook using the Facebook App, it will not log me out. It is now permanently keeping me logged in. No problem logging off of Facebook when I do not use the App. Is there anyone that can tell me why this is happening and what I need to do to Logout of Facebook. I like using the App for Facebook but I also want to be able to log off, I do not like to stay logged in.  Is there something different with the latest Apple software I downloaded a couple of weeks ago, IOS 6.1.3?

it also could be something different, if you try google hangounts. change password and log out it still recieves notifications. its how apples handles the "channel" notification system for apps that recieve notifications or do backroung sync, and im sure at some point that security hole will be a hijack point.  i think its called XO auth. and is why it can maintain session even after an apperant logout
if you go to the app and it shows you have logged out but are still recieving notifications then that is evidence of the bug.
also look and find the option for "keep me logged in" i remember in the past that would allow a autologin after logout. also if the app does NOT save the logout status correctly in its "memory" the above refereced system will auto login you with the XO app authentication.
if there really is no keep me logged in option. then what crh24 said, they designed it delibertly to keep you logged in. though i never remember a problem on my ios 6,. are you on ios 7, bunny hop?

  • Where does Lightroom keep my photos?

I always import my photos from my CF card into my USB external hard drive. When I view my hard drive, Finder shows all my photos and I always thought that's where my pictures were.
Then, I unplugged my laptop, took it to another location, and run Lightroom on battery. Wait a minute, all the photos I thought were on the USB external hard drive which is now disconnected showed up and play perfectly in slide show.
I went Finder through every file in the Macintosh HD, I can't see a single photo, yet Lightroom is definitely keeping a copy of it somewhere in the Mac HD.
    My questions are:
    (1) Where does Lightroom hide these photos?
    (2) How does this impact my Macintosh HD storage capacity?
    (3) How can I remove these photos from the Macintosh HD so that if I lost my Macbook Pro, the thief cannot steal my photos.
    Please help.
    Thank you all in advance.
    Eddie

What you are seeing are the previews that Lr generates for every image that gets imported.
    (1) These previews are not hidden but are in the same directory as the Lr database. Read more here:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=333660
    (2) Lr previews -- depending on what size you generate and the number of images imported -- can consume a lot of space. But disk is cheap.
    (3) Paranoia is no reason to delete the previews. Don't lose your laptop!

bug 6369648 (link aggregation interfaces missing after reboot).
This has been resolved in patch 120990-02 (SunOS 5.10: net-physical

I applied the patch and put the aggregate address in the file, /etc/hostname.aggr1 and it remained across reboots.

  • Migrating from Bridge to Lightroom, keeping ratings?

I am more and more convinced to exclusively use Lightroom and wish to import folders that was tagged with Bridge into LR catalogs.
Many photos are rated using Bridge and I wish to keep those ratings when importing them into LR.
    Any capability of doing that?
    Thanks

Go ahead and give it a try.  Unless you tell Lightroom specifically to move the photos, they will simply be imported into the Lightroom catalog/database but remain unchanged otherwise.  Some people seem to think that Lightroom somehow "absorbs" their images, thus making them unavailable anywhere else.  That simply isn't true.  The images should still be in the same place after the Lightroom import.  If you go to Bridge you should find them in the same place with the same ratings as before.

  • Why does Lightroom keep doing this to my RAW files?

I load my raw files into lightroom and it does this to a few images and some times many of the images..it does not matter which card I use..I thought it was a bad card one time and threw it out. I actually quite using Lightroom a year ago because of this and FORGOT and started using it again. It ruins the files. Once its loaded into Lightroom and it does this to the raw file its permanant. Help!
    Jolie

This is probably a hardware problem as Lr does not write to RAW files.  See this thread.

  • Lightroom Keeps Losing My Keywords

I use Lightroom 1.2 and CS3. This is my workflow:
    1) I import my images from a CF cards to a directory on hard drive.
    2) Open Bridge to sort and white balance my images.
    3) Open Lightroom to assign keywords to all the images. The keywords are the one feature that I REALLY like about Lightroom.
    4) Sometime later (another day) I go back into Bridge/CS3 and do some editting with ACR.
    5) When I go to Lightroom, it detects that metadata has changed. The images have that rectangular icon.
    6) When I click on the icon I get this dialog:
"The metadata for this photo has been changed by both Lightroom and
another application. How should Lightroom synchronize this data?"
    with the following three options:
    Import Settings from Disk
    Cancel
    Overwrite Settings
So if I choose to import the settings from disk (to pick up the Bridge/CS2 edits), Lightroom removes the keywords that I have previously assigned.
Now that is REALLY DUMB. So are we talking metadata or keywords. They are kept separate in the panels and should be kept separate during this process.
I don't know if this is related to the XMP Performance Issue or not. If I uncheck auto-write XMP Lightroom flies and gives this message.
If I check the auto-write option (isn't this supposed to fix this?), my machine grinds almost to a halt. It is so slow that I don't know whether this dialog even appears. I don't even see the icon.
Just to make matters worse, I don't know how many images have no keywords assigned. Now that would be a really great feature for the keyword search.
My computer is a dual processor PowerMac G5 with 3.5Gb RAM with 127Gb free space on the catalog's disk and 11,000 images.
    Any comments or solutions?
    Match

The problem in your workflow is that second step of editing the previously edited images that were keyworded back in Camera Raw...why would you do that? Lightroom has all the controls that Camera Raw has (except a point curve editor). At some point you'll really need to decide where you're going to do you main editing and stick with it. Either that or you're gonna go nutz trying to keep the metadata correctly updated and yes, ALL the metadata gets updated when you see that warning and go ahead and update...it's doing exactly what you told it to do...in spite of the fact that's not what you really want as there is no way to separate settings from keywords or other metadata.

  • Help, lightroom keeps crashing without properly opening.

Hi everyone, this is my first time using a forum so please bare with me. Please forgive me if I am not doing this right. Now on to my Lightroom program.
I recently installed the program onto my Mac but it has never properly opened. Every time I have tried to open Lightroom it crashes.
It pops up a small screen with a list of codes which I honestly don't know how to fully read. I send the crash report but it basically tells me it can't be fixed.
Since I haven't been able to use the program, I was wondering if I am able to delete then reinstall the program. I noticed on the Creative Cloud it says I can't uninstall it.
So here I am wondering if anyone knows of any alternative ways of fixing this. Maybe changing out some of the programs settings and codes to hopefully make it work?
I would really love to use this program, I have used it before on my old computer and I loved it. I will would love any suggestions, thanks.

i just updated to Lightroom CC on my MacBook Pro Retina with Yosemite and it keeps crashing at startup. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, still the same. I did this through Creative Cloud. Then I read that you have to download it from the Adobe site to overdo this. Did so and it still crashes. Any ways around this. Very annoying.
