Lightroom KEYWORDS searchable in SPOTLIGHT?

I was looking through the discussion boards but couldn't find an answer...here's my question.
If I enter keywords into Adobe Lightroom and save the metadata back to the original file, can spotlight search by these keywords??? I know in Tiger this didn't work but I was hoping it would in Leopard. I know that Lightroom isn't 100% compatible with Leopard yet but I thought someone may have the answer. Thanks in advance Mac community

You can tell spotlight to index it with this command. Change the VolName to whatever you call the drive.sudo mdutil -i on /Volumes/volName

  • How can I "archive" mails in Mail App to another internal drive/partition to save space but still have it searchable in spotlight (and preferably visible, searchable, draggable in Mail App)?

How can I "archive" mails in Mail App to another internal drive/partition to save space but still have it searchable in spotlight (and preferably visible, searchable, draggable in Mail App)?
    Background:
I am using Mountain Lion and Mail App and running out of space on my small primary SSD drive (where I keep OS, apps, key user preferences/data and mail for speed). The mail data is the big variable (many GBs) and I want to "archive"/move some of the old mail to my 2nd drive inside the Mac. But I still want it searchable inside spotlight and preferably even inside Mail too. And I'd like to be able to still drag and drop old mails into this archive folder.
What I've tried that seems to work:
    This seemed to work:
    1. Move the archive folder/mailbox to the 2nd drive/partition/folder (don't delete anything inside Mail App)
    2. Create a symbolic link from its new location to the original/old location
This seems to work, it looks as "normal" and as if nothing happened inside Mail App but the folder now resides elsewhere and seems searchable etc. But I'm not sure that once caches refresh or over time with updates etc if stuff will break horribly or corrupt.
Is that the right way to "archive" mails in Mail App to another internal drive/partition to save space but still have it searchable in spotlight and visible, searchable, draggable in Mail App?
    Thanks in advance!
    Cheers,
    Daniel

I'm having a similar but slightly different problem. My company just migrated to Gmail, and it's saving mail drafts every 30 seconds into my Trash folder.
I unchecked the "Show in IMAP" preference in the Gmail settings, but my Drafts folder completely disappeared. I went back and checked it and the folder reappeared (with my drafts still in there).
I like the idea if starting an email on my laptop and having the option of finishing it on my iPhone or iPad, so only saving Drafts locally would not be ideal.

  • Deleted email accounts still searchable in Spotlight...

How can I permanently delete emails from deleted accounts that are still searchable in Spotlight?

    hi,
does your trash is empty? spotlight is also looking to element in the trash. click on one of these files from the spotlight result; it will show the location of the files on your harddrive.

  • Lightroom keywords in Bridge?

I hope that I'm overlooking some very simple thing, but none of my keywords that I have set for my pictures in Lightroom show up in Bridge (nor are they searchable).
Also, if the keywords do not work together in both programs, what would the purpose of Bridge be?
    Thanks for helping me!

Yes, that's correct. You can do this one time by selecting the whole catalog, and selecting all and running that. Depending on number of images and processor, make a cup of coffee, go out for a cuppa, or dinner and a movie, or let it run over night. Then you'd hit Cmd-S only for the ones you corrected or changed or just added. You can also have this (and all metadata) written out automatically if that suits your workflow and isn't too slow, which it is for some setups.
LR and/or Bridge- long debated by some. I just prefer LR as it does more for me than Bridge. But Bridges is very useful, too. Again, tomes have been written on this.

  • Lightroom keyword hierarchy behaviour

what is the conceptual difference between explicitly adding a top level keyword to an image vs having the top level keyword being added automatically by adding one of its lower level "child" keywords to the image?
I don't see why there should be any conceptual difference but for some reason, Lightroom treats them differently - the former places a checkmark next to the top level keyword and includes it in the keyword counter (which would be my preferred behaviour), whereas the latter places a hyphen and does not include it in the counter.  What is the hyphen meant to indicate?  It's undesirable because the counter doesn't tell me at a glance how many images are tagged with that group of (parent keyword+lower level keywords).
Note that in terms of the actual keywords that are tagged or exported with the image, there is absolutely no difference.  So it's strange that the keywords panel distinguishes between the two.
I'm using Lightroom 3.6 on Lion.

There's currently no way in LR 3 or 4 beta to get the behavior you want.  You could submit a suggestion to the feedback forum that Adobe employees read:

  • Lightroom Keywords not showing in Bridge

    Hi all!
Our companyy photographer uses Lightroom to archive and keyword all of his pictures, which is fine!
The graphic designer, who uses the pictures (that's me!) has to search the picture archives using Bridge (again, fine).
However, the keywords that the photographer painstakingly puts in when he imports images into Lightroom do not show up when I search using Bridge!
We have tried selecting images in Lightroom and hitting Command-S to save the keywords to the file itself. But this doesn't seem to work!
Anyone got any suggestions / help?
For reference, we are both using up-to-date desktops and software (as of March 2010).

Just tried two files with keyword in Lightroom 2 and using Export as PSD to
a folder I have pointed Bridge to. Using the quick search at top of the path
bar or find command in Bridge does provided me the files with that keyword
*However, the keywords that the photographer painstakingly puts in when he
imports images into Lightroom do not show up when I search using Bridge!*
We have tried selecting images in Lightroom and hitting Command-S to save the
keywords to the file itself. But this doesn't seem to work!

  • Extensis Portfolio 8.1.1 and Lightroom - keywords question

Hi, I've imported images to Lightroom that have had keywords applied using Portfolio (an Extensis product). Once imported into Lightroom, however, Lightroom does not show these keywords. It only shows those keywords applied using Photoshop CS2. Is there a way, short of reentering all that data, to get Lightroom to recognize these Portfolio keywords?
    Thanks for any help,
    DLMST

Got a little mixed up between threads. Portfolio is scriptable, so it would be possible to generate xmp sidecars which Lightroom would then be able to read.

  • Lightroom Keyword Searching in Windows

Hello all. First Would Like to give a big Thanks to all the people that answer questions around here, I normally dont have to post because i can find my answers in the previous questions. Well not this time, so here goes. When I keyword in lightroom I was wondering if there is a setting or prefrence to check that will submit my keywords to the actual windows property box of the photo(the box where you right-click on the photo and choose properties)in that box there is a keyword heading and i want to transfer my keywords to this box and I believe I can search from withing windows to locate these photos, although i am unsure on that i want to try. I have tried exporting photos and saving metadata and that didn't work. The reason i am trying to do this is so that when I work on photos for people and I send them back they dont need lightroom or photoshop to search through large amounts of files to locate photos. Sorry for being long winded but i am trying to be as complete as possible. any help would be greatly Appreciated.THANKS in advance

    Hi mmbamrski and OP,
I think of keywords in Lightroom as being "for Lightroom's eyes only". But then:
    - Set "include on export" attribute for keywords that should be visible externally.
    - Upon export, do NOT export as Lightroom hierarchy (for maximum compatibility with non-Lightroom consumers).
Then after finishing in Lightroom, I always export jpegs for outside consumption.
WIndows can search these exported jpegs and see the keyword metadata in them. And, they can also be used for any other purposes without having to go into Lightroom and do a special-purpose export (screen-saver, slide-shows, photo-books, web, email, CDs, serving via DLNA ...)
I find these plugins useful in this regard:
    TreeSync
    ExportManager
    Hope this helps,
    Rob

  • Lightroom Keywording question...

I am pretty comfortable with Lightroom, but there is one scenario that can be frustrating.
I am keywording a new batch of photos. I am on a photo and assign 5 keywords. I then right arrow to the next photo and I want to "dupe" all 5 keywords from the previous photo (e.g. copy/paste)...
There doesn't seem to be an easy way (button or keyboard shortcut)...
    Any suggestions?
    Right now I either:
    * Click all the keywords in recent keyword list (a pain)
    * Go "back" and copy / paste
    Any suggestions would be grateful.

There are many ways. One is to use the keyword spray can (should be on the bottom toolbar), the other main way is to copy metadata (from the metadata menU, the shortcut is different in windows and Mac OS, so check the shortcut there), select keywords as what to copy and paste the metadata over your other image.
Edit: Oh I didn't notice you were using the zoom view, yeah there it is a little harder.

  • Lightroom Keyword Issue

Greetings. I'm running the 64-bit version of LR3.3 on Windows 7, but I've had this issue since before the upgrade. I have a long list of keywords. I'm finding that if I expand my keyword list keywords near the bottom third are not selectable, even though it shows how many photos are tagged with them. If I open up a metadata filter and scroll to the bottom of my keyword column I get the same results. However, if I do a find and specify a keyword that way it will bring the photos up. I haven't found anything in the forums regarding this problem. Does anybody have any suggestions?
    Thanks.

It's a problem with how the list was coded in Lightroom which involved a failure to code around a limitation on the Windows platform. Lists of keywords longer than around 1600 items are truncated. I don't think you'll see a quick fix for it, but I hope it will happen in LR4.
As a workaround, put your keywords into a simple hierarchy.

  • Elements tags into Lightroom keywords AND maintain structure?

Hi, I would like to move from using Elements to using Lightroom. Whilst I realise that I can import my catalogue and photos, which should also create all my keywords, I am concerned that the existing keywords/tags parent/child structure would be lost? They would be created as a single contiguous list?
Can anyone confirm this is the case, and if so, does anyone know how to go about moving the tags across whilst maintaining the original structure AND remaining associated with the correct photos?
    Thanks,
    Gareth

Just to add to what Jeremy2 said:
You do NOT import the photos. Let me say that again. You do NOT import the photos.
You use the menu command File->Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog

  • MS-DOS (FAT32) drive not searchable in Spotlight

I haven't read anywhere that this is not possible. For some reason, when I search either in a Finder window or in the upper-right Spotlight tool, no results are returned from an external USB FAT32 hard drive. Is there somewhere I go to enable this?
    Thanks for any tips.

  • Spotlight keyword search highlights found items in results

When entering a keyword search in spotlight, it would be convenient if keyword would be highlighted in results. Example, I search for word, 'villa' and results show word in 5 text documents. When popping out the quick look preview from spotlight, or opening the text document, instances of 'villa' should be hightlighted.
I feature suggestion? Or, it is possible now?

that would be a cool feature, i hope you are listening Apple??? update 10.7.2?????

  • A Searchable Database for Spotlight Please?  Anyone?

Devon only gives you an icon in coverflow.
    Soho Notes, ditto.
    Yojimbo, ditto.
Bento gives you nothing at all. Your files don't exist in Spotlight.
Is there a database that is truly searchable in spotlight/coverflow?
    Help?
Meanwhile, I'll just have to stick to TextEdit.

    Laurie
Yojimbo and Soho Notes support Spotlight as does the latest versions of DevonThink. At this time of writing only Bento doesn't support Spotlight.
Then you mention Coverflow - which is unrelated to Spotlight. It's just a finder plug-in. So i
Eagle Filer is a searchable database with QuickLook support. http://c-command.com/blog/category/eaglefiler/
