Lightroom launches then immediately hangs

Lightroom 3 succesfully loaded and succesfully used for past couple of wmonths. When launched last week the library page appeared just as I had left it but suddenly went'semi-transparent' and the machine hung. The error message was " Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 64 bit has stopped working and windows is checking for a solution to the problem" No such solution is forthcoming. Have loaded version 3.2 with the same result. Loaded L3 onto my laptop and run in 32 bit and it works perfectly. Only software that might have been loaded between sessions was a HP printer driver which has since been uninstalled. Assistance very much appreciated. Aldso had initial problems with Adobe Premiere on the same computer but in those instances the programme could be re-starteed after re-booting the machine. That problem has now gone away.

Hi Dorin,
Thanks for response. Pref files deleted: still hangs. Created 2nd. catalog as you suggest but still hangs when that opened. Cannot now get opportunity to create another catalog via Ctrl+open software. Any other ideas? Should I just try and get a copy of lightroom 2?

Keith

  • PSE9 Organizer launches then immediately closes!

I have a Dell XPS 610i with 500GB hard drives (Raid 1, mirror images) and am running Windows XP. I had been having lots of issues with it so I backed everything up and just reset it back to factory delivery conditions. I reloaded all my non photo files and got everything working well (Outlook, Word, iTunes, etc), then decided it was time to load PSE9/PE9 and reload my 250GB+ of photos.
PSE9 launched fine the first time, so I loaded my 2011 photos (7,500 files, 44.6GB) and imported them into a brand spanking new catalog. All went well. I changed the view to folder view and then closed PSE9. I installed a few more Windows updates and rebooted my machine. I launched PSE9, got to the splash screen and launched the Organizer. It launched properly then IMMEDIATELY closed. I tried a few more times, installed a needed update to Adobe Reader 9, rebooted my computer and the same thing happened when I launched PSE9 from the splash screen.
I did a little research on the web and tried launching the Editor from the splash screen (which worked fine), then launched the Organizer from the Editor. That worked! So I can only launch the Organizer from the Editor which is kind of a pain since I don't really need both work spaces open. When I close the Editor, the Organizer stays open and works fine.
Since I take lots of photos and and JPGs are rather large, I plan to create multiple catalogs (one for each year). I just created a new catalog and am now importing my 2010 photos (8,500 files, 48.5GB), but before I load the rest of my photos, how can I fix this bug that prohibits me from successfully launching the Organizer without opening the Editor first?

Try making a direct desktop icon for the Organizer and see if you can launch the program directly from the desktop.
Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
    Browse to Computer OS C:
And find the PSE Organizer application in Program Files.
Inside the Adobe >> Photoshop Elements Organizer (yellow folder) you are looking for an application file “PhotoshopEementsOrganizer” with six small icons (e.g. representing thumbnails)
    Select it and click OK
    Click next
Rename by taking out Photoshop Elements leaving just the word Organizer
    Then click finish
You should now be able to launch directly form the desktop by double clicking on the icon.
You can set up a similar direct link to the Editor application (.exe file which has the blue PSE icon). As before take out Photoshop Elements just leaving the description Editor and it will show up clearly on the desktop.

  • After 10.4.4, Safari launches, then immediately crashes.

After downloading 10.4.4, Safari launches every time, but then crashes after only a few seconds. It does this every time. Could Safari be having a problem with the Apple site?
(To post this, I'm using an alternate startup disk with OS-X 10.4 and Safari 2.0). I'd be grateful for any and all suggestions to fix this. Thanks!

I have a similar problem - cannot use Safari at all as it immediately crashes. I tried removing the plist file - no luck. I am using Firefox exclusively now until someone comes us with a fix. I'm not sure where I can get another copy of Safari. I tried to open my OSX installer disk but it would not let me in since I have upgraded from 10.4.3 to 10.4.5 via the software updater.

  • Lightroom Launches, then nothing

I've been using beta 4 for months, 10.4.7, then today I open Lightroom, but no window opens, nothing operable except for File/ About Lightroom. I tried opening with a new library, that didn't help. Downloaded a new Beta, still no action.
Also tried to open by opening a pic direct from the library/ open with, photoshop and Preview worked, not Lightroom.
    Any ideas?

    Thank you for your responses.
    The permissions are fine.
I was making backups but I made a mistake and will simply say my mouse ate the most recent back up.
I chose Lightroom because I can save my Nikon raw files as DNG. As a result there were no sidecar files at import and I never understood the importance of generating them after the fact.
In my serch for documentation I bought the Scott Kelby book and the video by Michael Reichmann. In the book XMP sidecar files were not mentioned and I don't recall any mention in the video.
I will search the postings in these forums for more information.
I have looked at the Lightroom library in TextEdit and see where I made adjustments but I don't think I can do anything with the data.
    So... I wait for V1.

Hello, I recently downloaded a trial version of Lightroom and then decided to get the monthly photoshop membership.  Now, when I launch Lightroom, my choices are to enter a serial number to continue the trial.  On the adobe website, it says "You can convert your trial to a Creative Cloud complete or single-app membership by purchasing on the Creative Cloud website. After you purchase your membership, your desktop product trial will automatically be licensed upon relaunch."  But this is not the case.  I do not want to risk losing my catalog and the work I have already done in Lightroom, so what should I do?

I am using Lightroom 5.5 on OS X.  I have created several small collections with about 180 images and I am trying to sync them via Lightroom mobile for later iPad access.  The first collection syncs properly, and then Lightroom syncing seems to hang.  The label in the upper right shows "Syncing 150 photos" but does not count down.  Opening and closing LR does not restart the process.

    PROBLEM STILL EXISTS...
I spoke to soon!  I tried adding a couple of more collections to sync.  Lightroom shows "Syncing 814" photos on upper left, but never apparently syncs any.  If I exit Lightroom it notifies me there are 814 images to sync.  When I reopen it seems to pick up and stall where it left off.  These new collections are not posting - this is the same problem as before.
I am pretty sure there is a serious bug in Lightroom here.  I encourage support to contact me.

  • When I open pages, it immediately hangs up and I have to force quit.

When I open pages from the dock,  the page comes up on my screen but immediately hangs up with the little revolving circle.  I have to force quit finally to get the page to go off my screen.  This is sporodic.  Sometimes it works and sometime it does not.

The Problem Report which I had was: "Pages quit unexpectedly while using the SFWordProcessing plugin".
I'm using iWork '09 in OSX Lion 10.7.4
Here are all the things I tried:
    Deleting preference files
    Deleting iWork Pages caches
Restoring preferences from yesterday's version in Time Machine
Finding the SFWordProcessing plugin in HD/Library/Application Support/iWork '09/Frameworks
Restoring the SFWordProcessing plugin from yesterday's version in Time Machine
Using Disk Utility to repair permissions (none needed)
Using Disk Utility to verify the HD (no problems found)
Scanning the HD for malware with ClamXav (none found)
Showing package contents of Pages and restoring items from yesterday's versions in Time Machine
Opening Pages (successfully) from another user account
The problem occurred after trying to open (convert) a 125-page MSWord document. Pages appeared to hang but was just slow. After opening the file Pages did hang. I right-clicked on the Pages icon in the dock and, seeing 'Application not responding' selected 'Force Quit. Thereafter I had the problem with Pages hanging on opening. I then moved the MSWord document to another location while I discussed with the trusted colleague who'd e-mailed it to me what to do with it.
Eventually, after trying all of the approaches above (mostly suggestions from Apple Community help pages) I somehow stumbled upon what was causing the problem and how to clear it...
In Finder pull down on the 'Go' menu
    Select 'Go to Folder'
Type in ~/Library/ which takes you to your user Library (a hidden folder)
In my user Library I found a folder called 'Autosave Information'
Delete anything in this folder associated with iWork Pages
    Voilá!

Every time I try to import photos, lightroom freezes, then crashes. Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks DdeGannes for the heads up- I knew that this was user-generated, but didn't know that Adobe doesn't reply directly.
Anyways, here's my exact query from another forum pasted (it's a lot of info to retype):
I haven't used LR 5.3 since December, and between then and now I reformatted my computer and reinstalled my basic program set. I haven't added any new programs, and if anything my current set-up should be the same as it was in December minus extra temp file bloat and a few extraneous programs.
Fast forward to today (after taking some new photos). I open up LR, and try to import but the program hangs and eventually crashes. The exact issue can be seen in this youtube video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg0uQvVoZYw
Thinking it was a bad installation, I proceeded to remove LR, and reinstall it. No dice.
Thinking it was a driver/program conflict issue, I booted into Safe Mode and tried to import. No dice.
I'm all out of ideas. It looks like the issue is fairly common (judging by the number of new help threads on the Adobe Community Forums. Does anyone have any experience, or better yet, any fixes for this particular issue?
In case anyone asks, my general computer set-up is below:
    Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
    LR 5.3
    AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
    8GB Ram
    128GB OCZ Agility 3 SSD
1TB WD Green HD (where photos and catalog live)
    Thanks in advance!

Downloaded photoshop elements 12, installed ok and activated, started it and splash screen displayed and app launched then shutdown immediately.
Repeat and crashes again. Help it won't start!

Solved! Tried everything in the support documents and none of it worked. Massive frustration with Adobe Chat staff who know nothing and just kept telling me to look at the support documents over and over. They also gave me a contact number in Australia that has a recorde d message saying the product is not supported! What is that about?
Finally Anand from Adobe tech support called me (from when I reopened the original support case that gave me the serial number).
Just had to rename folder SLCache in c:\program files(x86) and reaccept the EULA and reactive. Now everything works fine. Way to hard.

  • Lightroom CC closes immediately after opening in OSX

    Hi,
I just removed Lightroom 5 and installed Lightroom CC from the CC console. Since re-installing Lightroom, the splash screen shows up and then immediately closes without any error messages. Lightroom 5 used to work without any problems.
Are there any logs that I can look at? Since there is no error message, I'm not sure where to start.
I have also tried uninstalling Lightroom CC using the Adobe uninstaller, and then re-installing it again from CC.
    I'm running OSX Yosemite (10.10.2).
    Regards,
    Daniel

    Hi Jim,
Signing out did the trick - thanks! Not very obvious, but it looks like it needed to refresh the license from Adobe.
When I started Lightroom after signing out and back in to the CC application, Lightroom prompted me to confirm the account that I was using. It showed a wizard that at one point said my trial had zero (00) days remaining. After clicking through the wizard and at some point clicking a "Sign In" button, it worked a charm.
    Thanks!

When I open Pages from the Dock,  the page comes up on the screen but immediately hangs up with the rainbow circle spinning.  I finally have to force quite to make it go away.  It does not ask me to choose a template.  This is sporadic, sometimes working, sometimes not.  What is going on?

    Helo,
Did you try to delete Pages' preferences file(s) in the folder your-user-name/Library/Preferences ?
There are one or more (depends on your OS X version) file like "com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist"
You can also repair permissions with Disk Utility in the folder Applications/Utilities.
Choose the hard drive were Pages is and click the button "Repair permissions".
    Or you can re-install Pages.
    Hope this will help.

  • Why is it that when I right then immediately left click (on accident) every Firefox tab goes black? Im using the Firefox 5 beta.

If I click the right mouse button and then immediately click the left mouse button while the right is still held down (on accident... happens more than you'd think) all of my tabs go black. The only way I have found to solve this is to close my browser and reopen it. I'm very proficient with computers and this has stumped me. I'm sure it's just something stupid that I'm not realizing. Just thought I should note that I'm also using a Razer Naga mouse with the latest driver installed. I'd be grateful for any help you can offer on this problem.

What doesn't work after 2 months? Having the issue present next time and contacting us (even if it means using a different browser) would help us troubleshoot your issue. At this moment we can't do much. I would suggest a clean reinstall:
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.

  • I can no longer play movies since upgrading to iOS8.  The videos will flip to the play screen then immediately flip back to the selection page.

    I am using an iPAD2 with 32gbytes on iOS8.1.1.
After upgrading to iOS8.0, the movies I had on my iPAD no longer would play.  When I select a movie, it changes to the play screen, then immediately flips back to the selection screen.  The movies are in the :movies" category.  I tried to reclassify them to "home movies" under the INFO option, but it is grayed out.
I did just copy another movie and it automatically was classified as a "home movie" and it play just fine.  My guess is this has something to do with the category it is in.  However, I cannot change the categories on the previous movies.
    Any help is appreciated.

Can you record and play new VMs?
Can you sync them to your computer?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from a back that was made then the VM played back. See:
    iOS: How to back up

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
