Lightroom Mobile poor editing.

Any idea when the curves will be implemented, healing brush and custom presets in Lightroom Mobile?

Yes, I have noticed the sharpness discrepancy as well. However, what is 100% zoom on Lr Mobile? If you 'pinch to zoom' you can view the photo at arbitrary image sizes. Then if you double tap the image will revert to the original size, double tapping again will zoom to the previous enlargement. So what is 100% zoom? The original image? Or the largest 'pinch to zoom'? Or somewhere in between? Does Lr Mobile respect all the Sharpening settings (that are only accurately visible at 100% zoom on the desktop)?

  • Lightroom Mobile Poor Sharpness

I have synced a few files to Lightroom Mobile and compared to viewing these on an iMac, they don't look that sharp.  I am looking at them when I tap to zoom and comparing to the same zoom on my iMac.  On the imac they are very sharp, but on the iPad they are not sharp at all.  I want to use LR mobile to filter our my poor images.  I am using a iPad 3 with Retina display.
    Thanks

  • Lightroom Mobile to edit .RAF files on IOS 8.0.2

I wanted to evaluate LR Mobile before I purchase the Creative Cloud. I use Fuji x100s and wanted to evaluate the workflow for edit .RAF files.  I imported RAF files in iPad 3 (IOS 8.0.2). I  can see the files .RAF files in my iPAD and edit them (HandyPhoto).   However I am unable to add .RAF file in LR Mobile. It just does not show those photos.  It seems it is possible (http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/53462725) so wanted to know if this is a bug (IOS 8.0.2) or I am making a mistake.

A direct import of RAF file to Lr Mobile is not supported yet. You have to first import the RAF file to Lr Desktop and sync them to your mobile device. Hope that answers your question.- Guido

  • Lightroom Mobile - editing metadata?

I can't see why there isn't much greater emphasis on photo metadata review / editing / creation in Lightroom Mobile for iPad - currently there is none!
This is a crucial early stage of the photographer's workflow, replicating some of Lightroom's Library function, and is easily done 'in the field'.  This is a much better use of the iPad's relatively limited power than trying to extend the image manipulation.
Photosmith currently does this really well but my workflow needs to be as smooth as possible and that means using one app - I'm guessing that Adobe should be able to build this into LR Mobile quite easily.
Can someone from Adobe let us know if this is planned for a release soon?
    Thanks.

    Hey Richard,
Like DJ-Paige says, we can't speak on future release features, but what I'd suggest for this feature that isn't there now, to post a feature request "idea" post over on feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family.
If you post on that site, others can vote up your post which helps us gauge the need for this type of feature. If others want this as much as you, pass your link on to them for voting it up.
Thanks for your feedback on LRMobile, and your workflow needs.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Pete

  • Is use of Lightroom Mobile included with Creative Cloud Student and Teacher Edition?

I am enrolled in the Creative Cloud Student and Teacher Edition. However; Lightroom 5.4 on my mac says I can only use Lightroom mobile for a 30 day trial period. It seems to me my Creative Cloud membership doesn't entitle me to the use of Lightroom Mobile. Is this indeed the case?

    http://www.adobe.com/products/lightroom-mobile/faq.html
Does Lightroom 5 include access to Lightroom mobile?
Lightroom mobile is included as part of the following Creative Cloud membership plans:
    Photoshop Photography Program
    Creative Cloud complete plan
Creative Cloud Student and Teacher Edition
Creative Cloud for teams complete plan
If you have access to Lightroom 5 via your Creative Cloud membership, then you have access to Lightroom mobile.

  • Lightroom mobile performance and "previous" button issues

I am considering subscribing to Lightroom mobile for iPad so I decided to give it a trial run with 2000+ photos sync-ed (iPad 3, Nikon D7000 raw files). The performance is awful!
Browsing through the images is fairly decent. Flagging also does a good job and seems that export works fine, but that is as far as I would go in praising the app.
Downloading from the cloud for offline use takes time (for sure my internet connection's bandwidth is not the problem) and the app does not sync files for offline use when the iPad locks. I had to change the iPad lock settings to "never" in order to be able to download the full set of images. The iPad went from 50% battery to 10% just to download the files. That long it took, with the brightness dimmed to the minimum.
With all other apps closed on the iPad (and offline from CC), it takes 2 to 5 seconds for loading the adjustment values (not to render the image) when moving to a new image (all image info off: exposure settings and histogram).
When using basic adjustments and crop I have found it very difficult to apply the same settings to the next image. Simply the Previous button is inactive. Browsing back and forth seems to activate this button at random times. But clicking on it and selecting "Everything from previous" does not bring any settings. Neither the basic adjustments, nor the crop settings. Although the image seems to be re-rendering.
In this case above, once the "Previous" button is reactivated, clicking on it highlights the selection (e.g. "Everything from previous") but no settings are applied. The menu does not close. I can click on "everything from" or "basic tones from" and they get highlighted but nothing happens. The menu does not close. Extremely annoying.
Same thing for the Reset menu. Sometimes it works sometimes not. I have managed (again at random times) to reset the image to the import settings, browse back and forward to other images, return to the image and then apply the settings from previous photo successfully. But only if I wait 2-3 seconds after the "Previous" menu pops-up.
When I hit the Reset -> All menu and then Previous -> "Everything", the image seems to only receive distortion correction (applied on the desktop to all photos upon import). No other settings are applied (basic adjustments or crop).
When connected to CC, performance degrades even more as it seems that the app is checking for updated settings to the file. It adds an additional 2-3 seconds per image...
Is there a fix in the works for these annoyances? At the current stage of the app, I do not consider subscribing to Creative Cloud as the app is basically unusable for batch processing.
It would be best if the app would be optimised for batch processing as at the moment it seems as poor as the Photos app on the iPad (with some versatility in terms of the settings that can be tweaked). Any target date for a future update? My trial expires in 20 days or so and I am not impressed for now.
I am not bothered by the slow rendering of the images on my device (for sure the iPad Air would do a better job) but the user interface is extremely slow and unusable. I have managed to edit 135 photos in 2 weekend days (roughly 4 hours of use). Very disappointed.

    Hi,
    thank you for your feedback.
Previous... will only be active if the two images (previous one) and the present have different adjustments.
    Some more answers inline:
In this case above, once the "Previous" button is reactivated, clicking on it highlights the selection (e.g. "Everything from previous") but no settings are applied. The menu does not close. I can click on "everything from" or "basic tones from" and they get highlighted but nothing happens. The menu does not close. Extremely annoying.
The Previous... menu will not close automatically once one of its options has been chosen. Btw. do the small thumbnails visually differ from another (Basic tones and Everything)?
Same thing for the Reset menu. Sometimes it works sometimes not. I have managed (again at random times) to reset the image to the import settings, browse back and forward to other images, return to the image and then apply the settings from previous photo successfully. But only if I wait 2-3 seconds after the "Previous" menu pops-up.
Reset to Import is only visible if you have done any changes to the image. When you mention that it sometimes doesn't work - is the problem that it's not enabled at all?
When using basic adjustments and crop I have found it very difficult to apply the same settings to the next image. Simply the Previous button is inactive. Browsing back and forth seems to activate this button at random times. But clicking on it and selecting "Everything from previous" does not bring any settings. Neither the basic adjustments, nor the crop settings. Although the image seems to be re-rendering.
It would be nice if you could give us some more info on this case. Since I have a problem reproducing this issue, could you please let us know if you have many applications in the background? How much free space do you have on your device?
Does a restart of the device help (in some cases it can)?
When I hit the Reset -> All menu and then Previous -> "Everything", the image seems to only receive distortion correction (applied on the desktop to all photos upon import). No other settings are applied (basic adjustments or crop).
Are you doing Previous->Everything this on the same image that you reset?
    thanks,
    Ignacio

  • Lightroom Mobile on Surface Pro

I've been trying to find an answer to this question but have had no luck. I use Adobe Lightroom as part of my Creative Cloud Membership on my desktop for a majority of my photo editing. All is good there.
In Lightroom I've signed in and made some of my Collections editable on the cloud. I love that I can use my iPad or my Android Phone using the Lightroom Mobile App to do some light editing whenever I'm away from my desktop.
I have a Surface Pro tablet also and I would love to use my Surface Pro to edit photos when away from my desktop. My problem is  it doesn't seem like Lightroom on the Surface has the same capabilities to edit the catalogs that I've set to be in the cloud.
Am I not understanding how Online/Mobile/Tablets work together or am I wanting to do something that isn't possible. It just seems like a Surface Pro 3 should be able to do what my iPad and phone can do.
I've read all about putting catalogs on dropbox and have the images on a removable drive and understand how that works, it just seems much more burdensome than the easier iPad/phone ease of use.
    Thanks-Scott

You want to share LR and its photos on two desktop-capable systems.   LR is a single-user program that needs the catalog attached locally.
The way I accomplish what you want is to have my LR catalog and photos on a portable USB3-attached 2TB drive and carry that with me.  Because the drive is portable and subject to loss or theft or damage I backup my 2TB drive to another 2TB drive when I am at my main desktop computer.  I basically copy everything on the main drive to the backup drive but using options in my backup program to only copy files that are different either in time-stamp or filesize which works out to my new photos, my LR catalog and some LR preview files.  I have had the portable drive fail and merely replace my backup drive and use my former backup for my primary work, immediately, or as soon as I have copied things to the new backup drive.

  • Lightroom 5.4 to Lightroom Mobile sync is soooo slow - why no local sync?

I am testing the new Lightroom 5.4 with Lightoom Mobile. What really annoys me is the fact that all photos are going up to the Creative Cloud. I have private pictures which should be private. Always. No upload. No Cloud sync. It is important!
Speed is the next major problem. LR 5 is way too slow for a fluid workflow. But this is mentioned from other users.
What absolutely makes me sad ist the sync speed of LR5.4 to LR Mobile. 100 Photos took up to 4 hours. On a typical wedding I have 2000+ images. Depending on the speed of the first 100 photos I have to wait 80+ hours? Are you kiddding me? This makes LR Mobile unusable. My clients are expecting results fast. Speed is one factor to the next contract.
Overall, I don't want to sync anything into the Cloud. I want a to use my fast local sync via WiFi or USB. Only those two options. I want to sync photos even without any internet connection successfully and quickly.
I'm fine with authentication with Adobe servers for licensing verification. But that's it. The rest should be configurable by the users whether they Cloud sync or not.

Tom, thank you for taking your time to come here and enlighten us with the decision making process behind what was done. Like it was said before here, the Lightroom Mobile so far has been very, very frustrating. I came home very excited to test it and make my dream come true. To be able to take my catalog (or a shoot) with me on the subway, etc and be able to choose the photos on my iPad. See, I am a photographer and I shoot mainly fashion and beauty, so my workflow starts as soon as I finish shooting by importing all images into Lightroom and then going through the painstaking process of choosing which picture to use. I would shoot anywhere between 5-12 looks in a day, around 100 photos per look and at the end of the process I need to choose only one photo from each look. This normally involves going back multiple times to be able to get to only one from each look. The LR Mobile would have been the perfect solution for me, making me able to look at photos while out of the office, on the subway, at home, etc. It would have made my editing process much faster (or less slow). Instead, I've been sitting and waiting for 6 hours so far and only 18 photos showed up on my iPad (from the 500+ that were chosen to be synced from my desktop LR. Now I know it's not my internet that is making it that slow because I have 80+Mbps of download and 40+Mbps upload. And that haven't helped me much as my LR is stuck on "Syncing 527 photos" for the last 5 hours. Most professional photographers that I know deal with a huge amount of photos from a photoshoot. Wedding, fashion, advertising, we all shoot 1000+ images in any given work day. To come home and have to wait 100 hours before we are able to edit on the iPad is just not useful. This will be useful for the amateur photographer that will take photos of their children/dog/flowers and want to be able to show their guests the photos without having to get them in front of the computer.
Now I understand what you said about having to have a centralized place so that all the clients up to date on the changes, and I think that is great but I also think that it's paramount that there's a different way of syncing, a faster, more efficient way. Even if it is, like mentioned, not a "everything in sync" solution. Something like sync the desktop to the iPad and only those two work together. If both are changed before the next sync, a "the 'blabla' catalog has been changed since you last synced, do you want to overwrite it?" takes care of the problem, much in the same way that Photoshop asks us when we are saving something that has been somewhat modified by some external agent between saves. But the beauty of shooting all day, loading everything in Lightroom at night at the hotel and in the morning catch your flight and edit your shoot on the iPad while traveling, or being able to show the clients on the iPad right after you shot the wedding, or (what I was dreaming was going to be possible just to have my dreams crushed when started to use it) shooting tethered on the job and giving the art director the iPad so that he/she can see the shots without having to stay in front of the computer during the whole shoot. Now THAT would be a game changer! That was what I was expecting from LR Mobile but unfortunately got disappointed. I'd pay for the app alone if it did that!

  • Why files in Lightroom mobile and files in the creative cloud not the same? idea-  one place(stored date) for all application ??????

Why files in Lightroom mobile and files in the creative cloud not the same? idea- one place(stored date) for all application ??????

Lightroom Mobile is not a cloud storage service. You shouldn't treat it as a way of backing up your files. You are merely storing Smart Previews of your files in the cloud space, high-quality JPEGs of your files regardless of their original format on your desktop. The point is that they are there so you can continue editing them in a Lightroom-like environment even while away from your desktop/laptop computer. The files in Lightroom Mobile can only be used in Lightroom Mobile.
This is very different from what is offered by the Creative Cloud storage, which can be used to synchronize your files between any device (that can support the individual files).
The vast difference in how each service works and its intended use is why they are separate.

How do I syn collections from different catalogs in lightroom mobile?

What you can do is to move (or copy) a photo form one collection to another. This can be triggered via the top right app menu item from grid view. Same menu is available when you open up an image for editing. Hope that helps. -Guido

I have just upgraded from Lightroom 5 standalone to Lightroom 6 standalone. I appear to have been automatically enrolled for a 30 day free trial of Lightroom Mobile and Creative Cloud. Reading the FAQ, it appears that after the expiry of the free trial, if I do not sign up and pay, I will only be able to view my pictures on the desktop but not edit them - surely this cannot be true. How do I un-enroll for the 30 day free trial of Lightroom Mobile and CC?

When I was signed into Adobe (which was a requirement for installing the upgrade), Lightroom 6 told my at the top right corner that I had 30 days left of my free trial of Lightroom Mobile and Creative Cloud. In parallel with this forum posting, I am chatting with Adobe support. he is away to find out how to prevent any synching with Creative Cloud during the 30 day free trial. I do not think that Creative Cloud is an application that gets installed on your PC. I think Lightroom 6 has it built in, and can use it if if you are signed up to the Creative Cloud and Lightroom Mobile (which I am for 30 days)

  • Do you have any more information about the Lightroom Mobile for tablet?  [was:Information]

Hey just doing a check. In. Do you have any more information about the Lightroom app for tablet?  Like when it is coming out, what features will it have?  Because I can't Waite. Especially for editing a raw file on a tablet. Excited.
I do have a  Few questions. 1. Will the app have a library mode that allows the photographer to display the raw files  on the app like how photo shop touch does. Example. When your  import a photo from the iPad it shows up in the photo app that Apple makes. But when you take that photo into photo shop and save it as a psdx file, the project or photo does not show up in the original photo app by apple.
    2. Will the app use the smart previews when you import a raw file on to the iPad the same as you do with a computer?
    3. Do you have to Waite to go home to edit a raw file or can you edit on the tablet once you import the photo from camera to iPad? Instead of going home import to computer into Lightroom 5, then to adobe cloud, then to iPad.
    4. Will the app display catalog, book, etc modes like Lightroom 5 has?

At this stage, we don't know any more about Lightroom Mobile than Adobe revealed in Sep 2013

Adobe will reveal more when they're good and ready.

  • Lightroom Mobile Sync - Extremely High CPU Usage/Sync Process Causes LR To Lag

Since my other thread doesn't seem to be getting any responses, I'm pasting what I've found here. Please keep in mind I am not a beginner with Lightroom and consider myself very familiar with Lightroom's features excluding the new mobile sync.
    1st message:
I'm on Lr 5.5 and using the 30 day trial of Adobe CC to try syncing one collection of slight more than 1000 images. Despite already having generated the Smart Previews, I can see my CPU crunching through image after image (the rolling hills pattern in the task manager) while doing the sync. I was assuming, since I already created the Smart Previews, that the sync of this collection would begin immediately and be done by simply uploading all of the existing Smart Previews. The Smart Previews folder of the catalog is 871MB and has stayed the same despite the CPU obviously doing *something*. As it is now, the sync progress is incredibly slow, almost at a pace like it's actually exporting full-res JPGs from the RAW images (as a comparison only, I know this should not be what it's actually doing).
Another side effect of this is that I'm basically unable to use my computer for other tasks due to the high CPU utilization.
    Win 7 x64 / Lightroom 5.5
    Intel i5 2500k OC'd 4.5GHz
    16GB RAM
SSD for OS, separate SSD for working catalog and files
    2nd message:
As a follow up, now Lightroom thinks all 1026 photos are synced (as shown in "All Sync Photographs" portion of the Catalog though all images after the 832nd image show the sync icon per image stuck at "Building Previews for Lightroom Mobile" and the status at the top left corner has been stuck at "Syncing 194 photos" for over 12 hours. Is there no option to force another sync via Lightroom Desktop and also force the iOS app to manually refresh (perhaps by pulling down on the collections view, like refreshing via the Mail app)?
    3rd message:
One more update, I went into Preferences and deleted all mobile data, which automatically signed me out of Adobe CC and then I signed back in. Please keep in mind the Smart Previews were long generated before even starting the trial, and I also manually generated them again (it ran through quickly since it found they were already generated) many times. Now that I'm re-syncing my collection of 1026 images, I can clearly see Lightroom using the CPU to regenerate the Smart Previews which already exist. I have no idea why it's doing this except that it's making the process of uploading the Smart Previews extremely slow. I hope this time around it will at least sync all 1026 images to the cloud.
    4th message:
All 1026 images synced just fine and I could run through my culling workflow on the iPad/iPhone perfectly. Now I'm on a new catalog (my current workflow unfortunately uses one catalog per event) and I see the same problem: Smart Previews already generated but when syncing, Lightroom seems to re-generate them again anyway (or take up a lot of CPU simply to upload the existing Smart Previews). Can anyone else chime in on what their CPU utilization is like during the sync process when Smart Previews are already created?
    New information:
Now I'm editing a catalog of images that is synced to Lightroom Mobile and notice that my workflow has gotten even slower between photos (relative to what it was before, this is not a discussion about how fast/slow LR should perform). Obviously Lightroom is syncing the edited settings to the cloud, but I can see my CPU running intensively (all 4 cores) on every image I edit and the CPU utilization graph looks different than before I started using LR mobile sync. It still feels like every change isn't simply syncing an SQLite database change but re-generating a Smart Preview to go with it (I'm not saying this is definitely what's happening, but something is intensively using the CPU that wasn't prior to using LR Mobile).
For example: I only update the tint +5 on an image. I see the CPU spike up to around 30-40%, then falls back down, then back up to 100%, then back down to another smaller spike while Lightroom says "Syncing 1 photo".  I've attached a screenshot of my CPU graph when doing this edit on just one image. During this entire time, if I try to move onto edit another image, the program is noticeably slower to respond than it was prior to using LR mobile, due to the fact that there appear to be much more CPU intensive tasks running to sync the previous edit. This is proven by un-syncing the collection and immediately the lag goes away.
I'd be happy to test/try anything you have in mind, because it's my understanding that re-syncing photos that are edited that are already in the cloud should be simply updating the database file rather than require regenerating any Smart Previews or other image data. If indeed that's what it should be doing, then some other portion of LR is causing massive CPU usage. If this continues, I will probably not choose to proceed with a subscription despite the fact that i think LR mobile adds a lot of value and boosts my workflow significantly if it wasn't causing the program to lag so badly in the process.
I know this message was incredibly long and probably tedious to read through so thanks in advance to anyone who gets through it
    -Jeff

Thanks for reporting. Just passed  along your info to some of our devs. One of the things that needs to be created (beside smart previews) during an initial sync are thumbnails + previews for the LrM app - Guido
    Hi Guido,
Thanks for pointing this out. I realized the same thing when I tried syncing a collection for offline mode and found out the required space sounded more like Previews + Smart Previews rather than just the Smart Previews.
    greule wrote:
Hi Jeff, are your images particularly large or do you make a lot of changes which you save to the original file as part of your workflow?
The CPU usage is almost certainly from us uploading JPEG previews not the Smart Previews - particularly during develop edits as these force new JPEG previews to be sent from Lightroom desktop, but would not force new Smart Previews (unless the develop edits are modifying the original file making us think the Smart Preview is out of date) to be sent.
    Guido
My images are full-resolution ~22mp Canon 5D Mark III RAW files so they're fairly large. Even if I only make one basic change such as exposure changes, I saw the issue. By "save to the original file" I'm assuming metadata changes such as timestamps, otherwise edits to the images aren't actually written to the original file. I'm only doing develop module edits so I shouldn't be touching the original file at all at this point in my workflow.
I think it makes sense now that you mention that new JPEG previews need to be generated and sent to the cloud due to updated develop edits. My concern is that this seems to be done in real-time as opposed to how Lightroom Desktop works (which is to render a new Standard Preview or 1:1 Preview on demand, which means only one is being rendered at any given time while viewing it in Loupe View or possibly 2 in Compare View). If I edit, for example, 10 images quickly in a row, once the sync kicks in a few seconds later, editing the 11th image is severely hindered due to the previous 10 images' JPEG previews being rendered and sync'd to the cloud (I'm assuming the upload portion doesn't take much CPU, but the JPEG render will utilize CPU resources to the fullest if it can). Rendering Standard/1:1 Previews locally and being able to walk away while the process finishes works because it is at the start of my workflow, but having to deal with on-the-fly preview rendering while I'm editing greatly impacts my ability to edit. Perhaps there can be a way to limit max CPU utilization for background sync tasks?
It may help to know that I'm running a dual-monitor setup, with Lightroom on a 27" 2560x1440 display maximized to fit the display (2nd display not running LR's 2nd monitor). Since I'm using a retina iPad, the optimal Standard Previews resolution should be the same at 2880 pixels.
    Thanks again for the help!

  • Maximum file size in creative cloud and Lightroom mobile?

I Am interested in purchasing the special offer for the photoshop photography program where I can move and edit photos between a desktop version of LR, the cloud and mobile LR. I use large Raw format files of about 25 MB. I saw that photoshop CC app can only handle up to 12 MB files, and was wondering if there is a maximum size limit for mobile Lightroom?

There is not really a limitation. The Lightroom Mobile technology lets you view and work with large files by creating compact proxy images on the tablet. Settings will be synced between the proxy and original raw-file on your desktop computer. Hope that answers your question. -Guido
