Lightroom not tethering to Nikon D600 IS NOT okay

This is my life, not a toy.
These are the tools I use, I invest in the best equipment I can afford.
Am I  being punished for not having the $2000 to $5000 extra to get a D800 or D4?
When I tell my clients I'm shooting tethered, and then cannot I look like an amateur.
to say I'm fustrated, would be an undertatment.
When will this be fixed?
What work around do I need?
help please

If this is so important to you, why did you buy it before it was supported?  If your first clue that it's not yet supported was in front of a client, then you should realize that not testing is a pretty amateurish thing to do.
Well ... while it may be considered prudent to verify that Lr supports specific functions before purchasing a new camera ... is it wise to continue to rely so much on a software developer that is quite comfortable at offering support at such a glacial pace? Sometimes we may need to update or replace equipment for our daily work due to concerns that are far more relevant and crucial than what Adobe may consider important. For me, I don't appreciate that decision being made for me by a software developer because they deem my personal needs and desires as unimportant.
Aperture 3 and Capture One, both have had tether support for the D600 for some time now ... Apple offered support for the D600 in October 2012 ... the same day they offered RAW support for the camera ... Is it fair for a developer to hold their users hostage or offer a feature and then not appear to have much interest in supporting that feature in a timely manner?
After all, we are not talking about something so critical or challenging as manned space flight to Mars here ... we are only talking about getting image data from a camera to a computer via a tethered connection. A task that could be handled quite easily ... if they would only chose to do so ...

  • Lightroom 4 raw files Nikon D600

received lightroom 4 with my Nikon D600 & can't import raw files.  It says it does not recognize the files & also can't view the thumbnails.  using a card reader

That camera requires at least Lightroom 4.3.  If you have only installed from the disk that came with your camera you need to update your version.  The last version you can update to is version 4.6, and that will support your camera as well.

  • Tethering with Nikon D600 - no camera found!!!!

This is incredibly frustrating to have a $2,000+ camera that cannot connect to Lightroom.  It really impacts the value of both Lightroom and my camera if they don't talk to each other.  Please advise when you anticipate this being fixed in an update.

Then why did you buy the camera?
Well ... considering Aperture and Capture One both support the D600 for tethering, some folks would think the world's leading graphics and imaging software developer would also have supported the D600 by now ... the idea we should be held hostage by a third party developer to base your equipment purchase decisions is just a tad ridiculous ... sometimes we are in need of upgrading equipment for more reasons than what you or Adobe may consider important ... Adobe is NOT the center of the Universe ...
Adobe should be a bit more responsive to stay current ... if they don't consider it a priority to do so, or feel it is too difficult to offer support for tethered shooting, maybe they should drop tether support all together ... it can't be that difficult to offer the support if others can get the job done ... we are not discussing a topic so complex as manned space flight to Mars ... we simply would like to transfer image data from camera to computer at the point of capture ... a task that is not as complex as some would like us to believe ...
To the OP - You can shoot tethered with Lr on Mac OS X as long as you have installed the current Digital Camera RAW compatibility updates ... then use the included Image Capture app (found in the Applications folder) and then point Lr to a watched folder for auto import (this would be the folder you select in Image Capture) ... you won't be able to trigger the camera from within Lr or adjust camera settings ... but you can get the job done this way until Adobe decides it's time to catch up.

  • When will Adobe Lightroom support tethering for Nikon D810?

I am wondering when will adobe support Nikon D810. Aperture already supports it...what is holding Adobe to add tethering for D810?

My guess is that Nikon writes the tethering driver for Apple so it is ready very quickly, whereas Adobe has to wait for an SDK then wait for their own resources to finish coding and I imagine it is messy and low priority so it takes a while.

  • Lightroom 5 does not detect my camera, a Nikon D600, in tethered capture. Can someone assist?

Lightroom 5 does not detect my Nikon D600 in tethered capture. I have tried turning the camera off then on and also turned the computer off then on.  I am using windows 7.  Anyone have any ideas?

I am having the same problem with both my D610 and my D800.  Both worked fine in the past.  In both cases, I can import files from the camera via 'Import', so I know the USB connection to the computer is fine, but Neither camera is detected during tether.

I have latest version of LR4.  Photos downloaded from card reader and two different cards show grayed image with note "preview unavailable".  I see this question has come up with Nikon D800.  Do I need to wait for adobe to update for Nikon d600 before I can use my cool new camera?

  • LR 4.4 not supporting tether Nikon D600

Tether capture still not recognizing Nikon D600.

Sir, sometimes you are so far out in left field, you actually end up in right field. I under stood what you were saying ... I was just perplexed you actually think your thesis can hold water.
While you may wish to contend that Apple is the only entity that has complete control over their hardware and software and this fact alone gives them an unfair and distinct advantage over Adobe ... How do you explain Capture 1 and their support for tethering new cameras months ahead of Lr??? Or that both of the non-Adobe options support far many more cameras ... And both likely have far fewer users than Lr ... Yet both of those developers don't appear to believe tether support should take a back seat. Gotta wonder how Phase One can keep up since they have to support both Windows and OS X ... That's supposed to be a problem and stunt development of their product getting to market, right?
As I said earlier ... Lame excuses for not getting the job done in a timely manner.

  • New Nikon d600 NEF files not supported by Elements9

I have a question, my old Nikon d3000 and photoshop elements9 had worked great together.  Now I upgraded my camera to the Nikon d600 and the RAW files are not supported by it... Any suggestions how to resolve this?

The D600 only gets full support in version 7.3 which is out of beta testing and now available as a release candidate. You may want to wait for the final version of camera raw 7.3 which will be available shortly. Alternatively download the release candidate now but make a not to update when the final version is released.

You can convert a whole folder of NEF images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Lightroom not fix hot pixels from my Nikon D7100

    Hi there.
I have a problem with my cam D7100: there are tons of hot/dead pixels on the sensor.
I am going to bring this cam to the service center.
But I have a lot of images captured with this cam, and need to remove hot pixels from them.
One my friend say about auto-removing in Lightroom.
So I try Lightroom 4.4, 5.0, 5.2. No one can remove hot pixels.

I understand, that I have camera's sensor issue, but I can't understand why Lightroom not "repair" that images?
LR actually does more than find and repair 100% level "stuck pixels," it also finds and corrects low-level hot pixels and higher-level "random" hot pixels. The problem is that you have "many" higher level hot pixels and LR's processing algorithm thinks they're image data. A different raw processor may work better or worse. Feel free to "trial" any of them and report back here what you find. Even with my 600D set +2EV higher in exposure (ISO 100, 1/30 sec. versus ISO 200, 1/250) your noise levels are much higher. IMHO you've got a defective camera!

  • Nikon Df RAW (NEF) files will not load previews into Lightroom 5.4. Nikon d300s RAW (NEF) files load just fine. Df files do not.

Nikon Df RAW (NEF) files will not load previews into Lightroom 5.4. Nikon d300s RAW (NEF) files load just fine. Df files do not.

    Thank you for your response.
I have loaded directly into Lightroom using import and via Nikon Capture NX2. RAW files display fine in Capture.
In Lightroom, blank previews are created for each available image, with the message "Preview unavailable for this file."

    Thanks in advance

Often, this error message means that you have used some version of Nikon software to transfer the photos to your computer, and this has corrupted the files. There is a fix which uncorrupts the files at http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/fix_corrupted_nef.html
But you said you get this message when you "connect my other camera Nikon D3100", the key word being "connect", and this doesn't really fit the description I just gave. This error message normally happens after you have transferred the photos to your computer via Nikon software, not when you connect it. So ... maybe you need to explain a little more ... what exact task (what menu options, what are you clicking on, what are you trying to do) when you get this error.

  • Nikon D600 Camera Profiles Not Showing

Hello - I've spent hours trying to figure this out, but to no avail.  I'm running LR 4.3.  I have a Nikon D600 but am not able to see any profiles for it at the following path: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles.  It is my understanding that the D600 is now fully supported, yet I don't have the profiles for it in the Profiles folder (or anywhere else for that matter).  What am I missing?  Where are the D600 profiles?  Please help!
    Thanks!

Custom profiles in one of the Adobe places are ignored starting with LR 4.3, I think.
The place for user-created or third-party-downloaded profiles is where the Adobe DNG Profile Editor puts them, in the CameraProfiles folder, under:
    C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw
The AppData folder is hidden, so you either need to have your “Show Hidden Folders”  enabled in Windows Explorer Folder Options or you can just type it into your Explorer address bar and hit enter when you’ve gotten as far as the YourUserName part.
