"Lightroom -- Opening Catalog Studio Session-003.JPG.lrcat"

For more than two years I had no problems that were encountered using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3.2 (which was upgraded to Adobe PS Lightroom 3.6). Until last month I could not open my Lightroom v 3.6. with this message on the screen --- "Lightroom -- Opening Catlog Studio Session-003.JPG.lrcat"
To remove the cause which I believed was in the later version of Lightroom v 3.6, I uninstalled Lightroom v 3.6 and reinstalled the Lightroon v 3.2 from the DVD I purchased more than two years ago.
After reinstalling LR 3.2, I restarted my computer and after that I double-clicked the LR icon giving me this message: “Lightroom – Opening Catalog: Studio Session-003.JPG.lrcat”
In the box I saw this message:
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 64-bit has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. Close program

The name of the Catalog file indicates that you have inadvertantly selected a jpeg image file as a name for a new catalog. I am not sure the full and correct way to resolve the issue but I believe it includes removing the offending "inapproprately named catalog file".
Maybe someone else will provide some additional info. In the meantime if you could post a screen capture of the contents of your "user>(your name)my pictures> Lightroom" folder. This will assist.

  • Just installed Lightroom 3 and got this message: Lightroom – opening catalog: IMG_6343.JPG.lrcat

Hey guys, i just installed Lightroom 3 and when i tried to open it it gave me this message:
    Lightroom – opening catalog: IMG_6343.JPG.lrcat
I have tried uninstalling and deleting it completely and it won't go past that error message! help!

Once you follow 99jon's instructions, you should be able to get into Lightroom, however ...
Did you try to open IMG_6343.JPG into Lightroom by using your operating system? If so, don't do that any more. Use File->Import... to get files into Lightroom, not operating system commands.

  • Lightroom-Opening Catalog:DSC

Help.  When I try to open Lightroom it tells me " Lightroom - Opening Catalog:DSC_0003.JPG.lrcat  " but then it gives me an error window saying that Lightroom is unable to open and windows wants to close it down and will let me know if a solution is available: (basically)...and it closes and nothing else happens.

You’ve likely tried to open an image with LR instead of starting up LR and importing the image into LR.  The drag-and-drop target file type for LR is a catalog not an image so if you drag-and-drop an image onto LR it’ll create a catalog with that name and not know what to do with it since it is an image.
To fix things, hold down the Alt key while you start up LR and it’ll ask what catalog to open then pick another one, or create a new catalog if this is your first time starting LR.

  • How to find-" Lightroom-opening Catalog: DSC00155.jpeg.ircat" Where is it?

I have downloaded Lightroom When I try to start the software it shows. -" Lightroom-opening Catalog: DSC0024 JPG.Ircat " Then a windows Window opens and said "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 64-Bit has stoped working A problem caused this program to stop working correctly Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." ANY Help ??? I cannot start the software.

Did you ever successfully open Lightroom by double-clicking on the Lightroom icon? If so, we can probably advise you what to do next.
Are you trying to open a file (DSC0024.JPG) into Lightroom via right-clicking on the file in your operating system, and selecting some command to try to open into LR? This won't work at all, you can't open JPG (or other image) files that way. Or did you try to associate JPG files with Lightroom, then try to double-click on it and open it? That won't work either. If that's what you did, please let us know, we can advise you on what to do next.
Or, if you did something else, please let us know what you did.

  • I am unable to launch Lightroom 5 Catalog:Ircat. A black long rectangle comes up the reads: Lightroom - Opening Catalog: Lightroom 5 Catalog.Ircat.  But in never opens?

I am unable to launch Lightroom 5 Catalog.Ircat.  A black rectangle says: Lightroom - Opening Catalog: Lightroom 5 Catalog.Ircat, but it never opens.

I have Windows 7 Home premium, Lightroom 5.6 64bit  The program was working
properly till a few weeks ago.  At that time I was not able to get my
files.  There was the little question mark on them.  I have three external
drives with pictures in them.  H and G drives all have question marks as to
the location of the original pictures.  I drive which I share with a laptop
where it work just fine and had been working fine now I can no longer
access Lightroom 5 Catalog on it.
I noticed two or three days ago that when I opened Lightroom it opened
another Catalog Call Lightroom Catalog 2.  So when I tried to launch
Lightroom Catalog 5, I get the long rectangular bar with the message
"Lightroom - Opening Catalog: Lightroom Catalog.Ircat".  But it never
opens.  The message just sits there.  There are error messages.   The
external drive with Lightroom 5 Catalog.Ircat continues to work fine on my
    laptop.
    Your help is much appreciated.

  • Lightroom 3.2-64 Bit. will not start -It said-opening Catalog:DSC0024.then shuts down

I have downloaded Lightroom 3.2-64 Bit . When i start the software it gives me the message" Lightroom-opening Catalog:DSC0024.JPG.Ircat"
Then a window opens and said " Adobe Photoshop lightroom 64-bit has stoped working. A problem caused this program to stoped working correctely. Windows will close the program and notifiy
you if a solution is available"
    I have a Windows 7 - 64bit
Any help getting Lightroom started would be appreciated.

Seems to be the following "classic" LR 3.x problem: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lightroom_3_4_1_64_bit_doesnt_work
In short: You tried to create a new catalog with the name of an existing JPEG file ("DSC0024.JPG"). Perhaps you wantet to open/import that file and accidentally used the wrong command (create new catalog). Solution: 1) Rename the file. 2) Start LR, let it create the catalog in a folder named as the original file, 3) close LR, 4) delete the newly created folder containing the new catalog, 5) Start LR again - it will probably ask you for your catalog (select the catalog you are really working with). 6) Re-rename your JPEG file again.
Edit: P.S: LR 3.2 is a rather old version. The latest update for 3.x is 3.6 (free of charge), download it here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=113&platform=Windows (Note: This bug is not fixed in LR 3.6. It is fixed in LR 4).

  • Lightroom 4 Catalog marked open - unable to open Lightroom

I was using Lightroom 4 Windows 7 64 bit, had a power bump, re-booted, now I am unable to use Lightroom. I get a message box saying "The Lightroom catalog named Lightroom 4 catalog cannot be opened because another application already has it opened Quit the other copy of Lightroom before trying to launch" To my knowledge I have no copies open!

Go to the folder that contains your catalog and in there you should find a file entitled yourcatalogname.lrcat.lock. This is the temporary lock file which is created when a catalog is opened (and thus prevents anyone else trying to use it), and is deleted when the catalog is closed. In your case, i.e. an abnormal termination, the file never got deleted so now LR thinks it's already open. Simply delete the lock file (and make sure you don't delete the catalog by mistake!), then restart LR.
EDIT: Ok, you beat me to it! Well done.

  • Lightroom won't open catalog

    Hello all:
Please help. New to this forum. Using Lightroom 2.2 on Mac.
I had to do a restart after a freeze and then I got the message:
The lightroom catalog named Lightroom 2 Catalog can not be opened because another application already has it opened. Quit the other copy of Lightroom before trying to launch.
I can open my first Catalog but not the Catalog in question (that I had just loaded with several hundred images). I reloaded lightroom program and reinstalled (Catalog.Ircat and Catalog Previews. irdata) from my backup drive. I do have the images backed up on my backup drive but not in my Catalog.
Any suggestions as to how I can reopen the Catalog or is it fried?
    Thanks
    George

    Hello again:
    Further note:
I am able to work using the Catalog in question on my backup drive but when I attempt to
work on my computer (main drive) after I reloaded ircat and irdata I get the "catalog can not be opened" message.
Am I going to have to create a new catalog and reload all the images so I can use them on
my computer and not have to access the backup for same???
    Any ideas, help, suggestions??
    George

  • Lightroom opens fine initially, but when trying to open a different catalog it will go through the process but never reopen again. I can't get it to open at all until the computer is reset.

Lightroom opens fine initially, but when trying to open a different catalog it will go through the process but never reopen again. I can't get it to open at all until the computer is reset. I have been using Lightroom 4 for 18  months now and this problem just started happening in the last month.

No error messages. It acts totally normal but just never reopens when I try to reopen a new catalog. I create a catalog for each of my clients....I have done this since I started using lightroom as it seems tidy to me. But, I have never had this problem until now. I am using a pc and vista and Lightroom 4. Thanks.

  • Lightroom 4 is blank and won't open catalog

Hello, I am a new in this comunnity. I have been using Lightroom 4 for the past  year on my Mac but I did not use it for the past month. Yesterday when I tried to open it again, it opens but it is blank, no thumbnails or anything. It does not allow me to change modules. and when I go to "open catalog" and click on the folder my lightroom just quickly blicks but it continues to be blank. I read some forums on here and I deleted the .lock folder that was underneath my catalog in the finder, but nothing changed.
I did not find this problem that I am descibing in any forum, any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not very tech savvy, I wasn't even the one that installed lightroom on my computer so please bare with me
    thank you in advance

Have you tried to Reset the iPod -
Toggle the HOLD switch, make sure you don't see any red at the switch.
Press Menu and Center button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON, then select your prefered language.
If you are on Mac, then the problem is not iPod resource hogging by the Antivirus.
Yours is most probably hardware due to a dying iPod Hardisk or Battery.
    Battery
On standalone, (not using the iPod docking station)  how long does the battrey last? Should be 36 hours on full charge, when new, but if it has been on the Docking station for 2 years, the battery would be at its max recharge cycle, and would last a few hours only or less.
    Hardisk
Here is a link on doing disk diagnostic posted by tt2.

For hardware issues like battery or hardisk, the community can't help you, so you got to bring it in to Apple or 3rd Party vendor for hardware replacement.
    Have a nice day!

  • Opening a Lightroom 3 Catalog in Lightroom 5

I'm trying to open a Lightroom 3 catalog in Lightroom 5.  I'm getting an error that says the catalog is not writable and cannot be opened.  Can Lightroom 5 open a Lightroom 3 catalog?

Lr 5 can create a copy to upgrade from or upgrade directly an Lr 3 catalog. What I think you are seeing is the result of some permissions issue with the Lr3 catalog file or the folder containing it.

  • Opening Lightroom 3 catalogs in Lightroom 2

I'm an educator and I have students who are woking on Lightroom projects at home and in the classroom. Most are using Lightroom 3 at home, but we are still using 2.7 here in the lab at school. When trying to open a Lightroom 3 catalog that they exported from home here in the lab, they get an error that states the catalog is "too new".  Is there any way for them to work between the two programs, i.e different ways to export out of Lightroom 3 that will allow them to work in 2.7 here?
    Thanks in advance!
    Dan

    Dan,
The best you can do is to have them write metadata to file in LR3 and then re-import the originals (with their XMPs if Raw) into LR2. Effects not available to LR2 (process version, lens correction, ....) will be ignored by LR2 upon import.

  • Unable to open Lightroom 5 catalog on PC

I'm unable to open my Lightroom 5 catalog.  A message appears stating "Lightroom 5 catalog cannot be opened because another application already has it opened".   In reviewing similar questions on the forum it looks like this might have been caused when my computer shut down suddenly when Lightroom was still open.  A response to a similar previous question suggested looking for the file with a .lock extension and deleting it or renaming it.  I checked my files and found none with a .lock extension.

Yes, that is the file. Lightroom creates that every time the program starts. It's part of the underlying database technology integrated in Lightroom. If Lightroom shuts down abnormally, or there is a different problem with of the computer system that forces the shutdown of the program this file can be left as an orphan. And it has to be deleted before you can start Lightroom again.

  • Lightroom 5.5 update - unexpected error opening catalog - help needed?

    Hi,
I updated Lightroom 5.5 to 5.6 (Windows 7). Now, unfortunately I cannot start the LR program at all. The message: "unexpected error opening catalog" pops up. And all the subsequent Options do not work. The Option "choose a Different Catalog" is useless, and the "try again" just as much. And "Exit" seems to work, but increases my frustration.
    Any suggestions?
    Andy

I had the same issue - after installing Lightroom 5.6 (64 bit version, Windows 8.1) worked for a couple weeks, then I got the unexpected error message this morning. I was going to install a previous version, like 5.5, but it appears Adobe released 5.7 last week so I downloaded the new one and I'm up and running here now! Wish you the best.
