Lightroom opens Photoshop CC opens backup copy on external disk not copy on MacHD????

When using Edit In function form Lightroom (latest) the backup version of PS CC on an external is being opened rather than the app on Mac HD.......
Why would this happen??

Because the OS doesn't realize that it's a backup disk and sees a perfectly good application there.

I am an amateur photographer and have lightroom.  My photos are stored on an external disk drive with a backup disk.  With iCloud, will all of my photos go to the cloud?  Will I still need the external drives? Is the $9.99 per month for just one year or for always?

If the iTunes database files are on that drive, launch iTunes with the Shift key(Windows) or Option key(Mac OS X) held down, select Choose Library, and navigate to it. The computer may need to be authorized to play protected content, and if the library contains rented movies, those won't play.
If not, import the content to an iTunes library.

  • Time machine to make the backup of an external disk

    Hi community
I’m using time machine to make backups of my Mac as many people do, but now I’d like to know how can I use it to backup on a different time machine disk, the content of an external disk. don’t know if I’m clear enough, that’s a complex question and my english is what it is.
I will reformulate just in case. I have a 1Tb external disk that I want to backup from time to time. So the idea was to plug that disk on my MacbookPro, plug a 2Tb disk that I would use as backup or time machine disk (not the usual one that I’m using for backing up my Mac), and that the Mac will automatically backup one to the other.
right now I’m making security copies every 3 months just by copying the whole content of the first disk to the 2nd one, but it takes 24 hours to do it, and since the content to be copied, does not change a lot, I think that backup program will improve it quite a lot.
    thanks in advance.
    regards
PD: if you think of a more efficient way to do it not based on Apple’s Time Machine, I’m all ears specially if it’s simple and user friendly.

  • How do I make a backup of an external disk?

I have an external disk that is formatted in Mac Extended Journal on which I keep movie files and photos.
I had some bad experiences in the past with my first MacBook Air (version 2.1) in which external drives kept getting erased without any good reason. I think it's due to the fact that I had to connect a USB cord to another computer when I had an external drive plugged into the MBA because the MBA could not power it on its own.
I thought it was due to a bad external drive and I took it to Samsung service center and complained that their drive was malfunctioning. I got a refund. But later on, I found that the same thing happened to another external drive and to a USB flash drive, so I realized that it had nothing to do with the external disks and something to do with the computer. I used the same drives that got erased on a newer MacBook Air (version 3.2) and I never had the sudden erasure problem.
Anyhow that's the background to why I want to make a clone of the external disks in my possession. If for some reason, the external disk gets suddenly erased, I would like a copy somewhere in safekeeping so that I do not lose all my movies.
How do I make a clone of an external disk?
I will be using a MacBook Air (3.2) for this task. It has two USB ports. Can I use Carbon Copy Cloner to do this? Just choose a source disk (external disk I want to clone) and a destination disk (the external disk where I want it to be cloned to)?

Many backup utilities like Carbon Copy Cloner and Super Duper can be used to clone drives.  They can also clone boot drive to make bootable clones.  They use "smart" backups in that they only update what has been changed from the previous backup.   That is what you need too since you intend to use USB which is not that fast.
With CCC you can set up a task to start the backup automatically when you plug the backup in and it mounts.
FWIW I use CCC to make daily backups of my disks (scheduled backups can be done by these utilities).

  • Using Time Machine to backup data FROM external disk to ANOTHER external

i have my itunes library and my iphoto library on an external WD disk connected to my MacBook Pro. So, i have a lot of nice data on that disk that i want protected... but Time Machine is not playing nice with the external hard drive. It's not listed on the list of items "Not to backup", yet when I go into the Time Machine interface, i can't go more than 1 level deep in Finder when selecting the external disk.
has anyone seen this behavior? it's supposed to work.
    thanks!

Did you backup your data from that external disk using some other backup software before?
I am also trying to figure out problems with external HD using time machine to back it up. Am not quite sure yet why it is not working right.

  • Where are time Machine Backups Located on External Disk?

I was wondering where time machine backups are located on the external disk , and what permissions you have to have to view them. I recently had to delete an account that time machine was set up on and i am only allowed to see backups in the shared folder on the volume. This is on OSX Server and several computers backup their images to the server
    Thanks in Advance

On my TM drive, there is a folder called Backups.backupdb at the top level. Inside that folder is a folder named the name of my Mac (as set up for Sharing). Inside there are folders named with a date/time stamp of the backup. Inside there are folders named with my Mac's disk names. And in there are the contents of the disk in the same folder hierarchy, but only the files that changed.

Then go to the UK Adobe site and at the bottom of the page click on the link that says Products. It is a Small Link at the bottom of the main page.
    Then this page.
If that fails to get you to the UK site then click the Change Region link and select UK.

  • Can't Backup Photos to external disk because "photo busy".

Installed iPhoto 6 and now when I try to backup photos (that I added to library before when I had iPhoto 5) by copying and pasting to my external drive I get a message from the external drive saying that it can't load a photo because the photo is "busy". I click on "OK" and then it appears that the loading finishes but no photos actually paste. When I try again by first deselecting the "busy" photo, which wasn't busy to begin with btw, I again get a the message telling me another one is "busy". And so on...I restarted the computer but no luck.
    Any thoughts? Thanks.

    Hi j&g,
It might be the way you are doing it, by copying and pasting. You also didn't explain clearly if you were using the copy command within iPhoto or in the finder.
You might want to try one of these methods to do your backup...
    Backing up your iPhoto Library
    1. Burn the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder to a CD or DVD
This method will give you a burned iPhoto Library folder that can be copied back to your computer to replace a damaged library. You can also use this method to backup an old library when you want to create a new Library to use as your current library.
insert a blank CD into your internal or external CD-RW drive and copy the iPhoto library to the CD icon on your desktop. When you drag the CD icon to the Trash/Eject button in the Dock, you are given the option to burn the CD. Click Burn and the CD is created. To burn a DVD backup of your digital images, use a DVD and a SuperDrive-equipped Mac
The easiest way to burn an iPhoto Library folder in the Finder that is larger than 4.7 gig to fit on one DVD is to burn sections of the folder.
Drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
Double click the folder to open it.
Drag each Year folder to the desktop.
You should be left with the iPhoto Library folder containing all the data files, and the Year folders.
Combine whatever year folders that amount closest to a DVD burn size on one DVD. Make sure that you have burned all the Year folders, then the iPhoto Library folder with all the data files.
If you ever need to use this backup, insert the DVDs into your computer and copy the folders to the desktop. Put all the Year folders back into the iPhoto Library folder. Then put the iPhoto Library folder back into the Pictures folder.
    2. Copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library to an external drive formated for a Mac. Do not use this as your only back up as the external can also go bad.
    3. Copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library to your iPod in disk mode
4.Creating your own CDs and DVDs for viewing in iPhoto
This method is a great way to back up Albums of older photos or even your entire library if it is small enough to fit on a DVD. This method will give you a library that will mount within iPhoto in the source column to be viewed. To import any images from this library they need to be dragged into your library in the source column.
If you just want to backup the images in your library:
    1) Within iPhoto select the images, albums or rolls you want to backup. Go to Share>Export and export them to a newly created folder on the desktop. Follow the directions in the next link.

  • Backup Time Capsule external disk to TC?

Is it possible for a networked hard disk (eg one which is connected to a Time Capsule) to be backed up on to that Time Capsule using TM?
I have a Maxtor external HD which was connected to my laptop via USB and on which I store my iTunes library. This was backed up to Time Capsule using Time Machine, along with the rest of my computer.
Now the Maxtor is connected to the Time Capsule so that I don't have to keep plugging/unplugging it and also it is available to other computers on my network. However TM no longer backs the hard disk up, presumably because it is not directly connected to my computer.
So is there a way of continuing to get the hard disk backed up on to the TC?
    TIA
    James

OK to ask the question in a different way:
is it possible to backup a network volume using Time Machine? Can any volume which is not physically connected by USB etc to the computer be backed up using TM?
Where does TM look for its list of volumes to back up? Is there a way of permanently adding a network volume to that list?
    TIA

  • Lightroom version 4 won't delete files from external disk

I've searched here and found several people getting this failure and just want to add that I'm having the same problem.  I have the latest everything, full stop ... I get the prompts and nothing happens in the end.  The photo stays in the catalog.  I have resorted to removing them from the catalogue, but they're staying on disk.

I had this problem as well with 4.0 and had to resort to launching LR as an "Administrator" on my Win 7 PC.  I just noticed that it is back after the upgrade to 4.1 since it reset me back to a normal launch.  I guess I will have to set it back up to run as Administrator again.

  • Best BackUp application for backing up 1 external disk to 2 one.

I was trying to use BackUp from Apple to backup my 1TB external disk to my second one but when second disk was full BackUp stopped backing up because second disk "was just full". So I changed settings to keep only files from last 4 weeks but it doesn't help me because I need to back up more often and It is not useful for me. I would like to use back up app which will back up until disk is full and then automatically will rewrite old data on 2 disk as TimeMachine does it.
Which free backup app does it?
    Thanx

somewhat similar to time machine, yet a little more versatile, are these commercial apps: ChronoSync and [Tri-Backup|http://www.tri-edre.com/english/tribackup.html].

  • Time machine bars+ dates in purple and backup disk not visible in migration

My HD has been replaced recently by Apple due to a fault. Before it was sent away a backup was completed with Time Machine to an external samsung HD. When i recieved my laptop back it had been returned to factory settings. After plugging in the external HD with the recovery on it, Time Machine detected it and allowed me to enter time machine. The dates and bars from the last backup are visible on the right hand side of the screen, but they are a see through purple colour and won't allow me to click on them to then restore. I then tried to use Migrate, but it gets stuck on the 'identifying source' page, where it stays indefinitely. This means i am unable to restore my Macbook Pro to how it was before it was repaired.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I should make clear that I am restoring a 50GB Time Machine Backup from an external disk to the Macintosh HD device. The external disk is 1TB and has 800GB of unused space.

  • Lightroom opens Photoshop from backup drive

Sometimes LR opens PSCC 2014 from my attached BOOT CLONE (backup) drive, causing two concurrently running instances. This will happen if I have previously opened PSCC14 from the dock to load an image. LR doesn't realize PS is already running and opens it from the backup drive. This second instance finds the backup files from the fist instance and opens them as backup files. Very confusing and seems unsafe regarding losing work (i.e. which one to close down first). Once that happens, LR insists on continuing to open CC14 from my backup drive.
Have repeatedly tried to remedy this by making sure LR preferences opens the copy on the boot drive, but theres on way to differentiate from the two drives. If I shut BOOT CLONE down LR will open the copy on the boot drive, but only temporarily. I have no idea how LR even sees the BOOT CLONE, or why.
Bottom line is I never know for sure what's going on. Need a solution for this please.

Try removing the Lightroom preference file http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroom-41.html

  • Open in Photoshop WITHOUT making a copy in lightroom library

I don't understand why when I choose to open a RAW file in Photoshop from Lightroom I have to create another copy of that image into my library. Many times in my workflow I open a RAW files to copy and paste into another design. I don't want an EXTRA PSD created in my library!

You can also Export your image into a working folder and open it in Photoshop and delete it when finished. That way an additional copy does not get saved to your Lightroom library.
