Lightroom opens Photoshop from backup drive

Sometimes LR opens PSCC 2014 from my attached BOOT CLONE (backup) drive, causing two concurrently running instances. This will happen if I have previously opened PSCC14 from the dock to load an image. LR doesn't realize PS is already running and opens it from the backup drive. This second instance finds the backup files from the fist instance and opens them as backup files. Very confusing and seems unsafe regarding losing work (i.e. which one to close down first). Once that happens, LR insists on continuing to open CC14 from my backup drive.
Have repeatedly tried to remedy this by making sure LR preferences opens the copy on the boot drive, but theres on way to differentiate from the two drives. If I shut BOOT CLONE down LR will open the copy on the boot drive, but only temporarily. I have no idea how LR even sees the BOOT CLONE, or why.
Bottom line is I never know for sure what's going on. Need a solution for this please.

  • Lightroom pulls up photoshop from backup drive rather than boot drive

I am using the latest versions of Lightroom and Photoshop for Mac.
I back up each night using super duper.  In Lightroom, when I choose to Edit in Photoshop CC 2014, Lightroom loads Photoshop from my backup drive.  The only workaround I have found is to dismount my backup drive.  Is there a place I can go in either lightroom or photoshop to specify from which drive Photoshop should start when Editing from Lightroom.  If I start photoshop first, then Lightroom "finds" the correct Photoshop, but I'd like to actually solve this rather than using a workaround.  BTW, I used Adobe's instructions for uninstalling Lightroom and then re-installed, but that did not solve the problem.

    ANSWER BELOW:
I discovered a work around - super duper has a way to create custom scripts which will NOT back up items you specify.  I went to the backup drive of my main drive and deleted both photoshop CC and lightroom cc.  After running super duper using the custom script (which they explain thoroughly in the latest super duper manual) and NOT backing up either Photoshop or Lightroom (in Applications) things are back to normal.  If I need to reinstall either photoshop or lightroom, I can easily do that from the web.

  • Can't open files from iCloud Drive on Mac

    Hi,
Can't open file from iCloud Drive on my MacBook Air (OS X 10.10.1).
I created new file (in Numbers for example). Then Numbers->File->Open->iCloud Drive->my_file.numbers and it says "Can't open file my_file.numbers".
I can preview the file by pressing Space, but openning from application and double-click on it doesn't work.
Files that were created earlear also not opened.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem? thanks.

    Using smtp.mail.me.com - also tried smtp.me.com
    SSL yes
    port 587
    SMTP Authentification Yes
Security SLS/TLS - also tried STARTTLS
User full **@me.com email address - also tried user name without @me.com
I have spoken to apple support this afternoon and we tried the variations shown above.
Support told me to wait for a day and try again!
After the iCloud authentication problem last night I changed all my passwords I wonder if there is an SMTP problem at me.com perhaps not reading the updated passwords?
I'll try and use the old passwords later.

  • I need to change the storage hard drive for both lightroom and Photoshop from my C drive to F drive

How do I change my storage drive from C to F in both lightroom and photoshop as I am running out of space on my C drive?

Storage Drive ??  Photoshop.   What Platform and OS are you running.
I use PC therefore Windows. When I thing about Application like Photoshop I know the are going to be files all over the place.  Windows like everything installed on the Boot disk.  I gave up the fight many years ago and let windows have it way when application are installed using an installer.  However besides the application files you have user files and I break user files down into to categories. Windows User files like applications settings, preferences, cashes, etc and user Data Files,  Images, text documents, PDF.   Applications like Photoshop also have add-ons an need swap space as well.  While all Windows default library reside on the C: drive you can add additional storage  to you document, music, picture and video libraries the are not on the c: Most of my user data file are actually on external ESATA drives or USB3 drives.  System files, Application Files, Paging, swapping and backup are on internal SSd and Fast Disk drive. Some of the folder that look like they are on C: are actually shortcut links to folders on other drives.

  • "Open With" Keeps opening up applications from backup drive

This has been going on for months and its driving me crazy.
If I right click on a jpeg, click open with photoshop, it opens up the photoshop app on my backup drive and gives a warning message saying the application moved and gives the option to update it even tho i already have photoshop open. It opens up 2 of them.
I dragged the whole applications folder on my backup drive to the spotlight privacy and even tried dragging photoshop itself, but it still opens with the wrong one.
I also rebuilt the framework with the terminal command with no luck.
I tried adding a period to the beginning of the photoshop app name so it would become invisible but it still opens it.
It's getting really annoying and I am out of ideas to fix it.
    Can someone please help me!!!
    Thanks!

unplug the external and rebuild your launch services database.
    run the following terminal command
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
then it won't show the apps on the external even when you plug it in provided you don't open them by hand or don't open the folder containing them in finder.

  • "Open With" CM command opens applications from backup volumes!

I have a couple of backup drives attached to my computer. I use one for Time Machine backups and the other for scheduled Carbon Copy Cloner backups--the old belt and braces approach. Unfortunately, whenever I right click on a file in the Finder and select an application from the "Open With >" submenu, the file always opens in the copy of the application that's on the CCC backup volume--even if the application is already running from the boot volume!
I can understand why it might be desirable to search for applications on attached volumes--some people might not have enough room for all their apps on the boot volume--but I can't fathom why the Finder would look there first! The sensible thing would be to first check and see if the application is already running, and if it's not, look for it on the boot volume, then any attached volumes, then maybe a shared network drive. It just doesn't make any sense to launch another instance of a process that is already running!
Apart from disconnecting my backup drive--which kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a scheduled backup task--is there any way to prevent this? I'd prefer to just not ever open applications from attached volumes. Failing that, I'd just like it to make more reasonable decisions, but I haven't found the "don't be stupid" Finder preference yet. Has anybody else run into this and found a fix or workaround?

Thank you! I never would have suspected that Spotlight had anything to do with this.
If anyone else runs into this, there is one additional thing you might need to do.
Excluding the other volumes from Spotlight will prevent them from being added to the list of possible apps to open, but once they have been used they are also bookmarked in the "Recent Items" preferences. The easiest way to delete them from there is to open System Preferences > Appearance and set Number of recent items > Applications to None. Once you close the pref pane they will be deleted, then you can set it back to whatever it was and it will get repopulated over time.

  • Lightroom open Photoshop CC but not the files

When in Lightroom and I click on lets say 3 selected photos and want to open them in Photoshop HDR Pro or as layers, it opens CC fine but not the files. Any ideas? It's the same problem in open in CC as layers or Panorama. None of the files open in CC.

photosbyfry, jonhillenbrand, Many users have reported the same issue and we are working on a fix.
In the mean while, i would suggest you to follow the suggestions mentioned under the below article and check if that helps.
Edit In doesn't work in Lightroom 5.5 from Photoshop CC 2014
Let me know in case you still get the same issue.

  • How to import photos into iphoto from backup drive to new computer

2008 "Vintage"  iMac recently died. Data was saved on external hard drive. Purchased new iMac, OS 10.9.4, how to get old iphoto library from hard drive to new computer. Iphoto 9.5.1. Thanks

Data was saved on external hard drive. Purchased new iMac, OS 10.9.4, how to get old iphoto library from hard drive to new computer.
Teresa, in what way way the data saved to an external hard drive?  Do you have a copy of your iPhoto library on that drive? Or is it a clone of your old system drive ? A Time Machine backup?
And which iPhoto version did you have on your old Mac?
If your external drive holds a copy of your iPhoto library, you can simply connect this drive your new mac and drag the library over.  It will depend in the version of your old iPhoto, how you can open the the old library. If it is an iPhoto '09 or '11 library, you can aunch iPhoto with the options key held down and select the library as your new iPhoto library.  If the iPhoto version is older, you will have to ru the iPhoto Library Upgrader first.

  • Error on launch -- duplicate project from backup drive

When I launch FCP X, I get this error:
"/Volumes/Media Backup/Final Cut Events/Event is already open with the same identifier as /Volumes/Media/Final Cut Events/Event, so the second document cannot be opened."
I have a media drive and its backup daisy-chained and connected to my computer. (Carbon Copy Cloner takes care of the backup tasks. In case that is helpful.)
I guess FCPX sees the projects on the backup as the same as on the media drive?
I could live with it, but what happens is I open FCPX and it opens the event on the backup drive instead of the media drive. My edits are made to the backup and not the other way around.
Can you advise me what I should do about this? Should I just eject the backup drive every time I use FCPX? Or is there a way to label the backup drive so that FCPX recognizes it as such?
    Thanks!

Just eject the backup dive when you using FCP. Or use Event Manager X to hide the backup events from FCP.

  • Notes from backup drive.

Somehow I've lost all my notes via sync.  Nothing in backup.  However, I should have the notes on ext. backup drive and Carbonite.  Where would I find the file and how to move to be restored?

It will be very difficult now, if possible at all. Installing Mavericks may have overwritten the same areas of the drive the data you want to recover was on. You also need to stop using the main disk as soon as possible.
    1) Make a bootable clone of your current OS X installation to an external drive using Disk Utility, SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner.
    2) Boot to that new clone. Do not startup to the original drive again for any reason until you've tried to recover the data.
    3) Purchase either FileSalvage, or Data Rescue III. Both will run in demo mode to give you an idea what they can do, but even the demos are limited. Make sure to download the purchased software to the clone, and install it on the clone. Do not write anything else to the drive you are recovering data from.
    4) Once you have launched either app, scouring a drive for recoverable files takes hours. Be prepared to wait quite a while before you even know if it was able to recover the file(s) you need.

  • Remove "Other Files" from Backup Drive

I have 10.08 GB of "Other Files" on my backup drive that i need to get rid of, however i am unable to directly access the files to delete them.
Can anyone tell me how to do this?
The files are a mis-directed computer back up.

The Q drive typically contains the Factory Recovery data to restore to original factory settings. The S drive typically has the Rescue and Recovery standalone software.  I dont think this is a Mis-directed  backup.  Are you trying to use an old Vista HDD as data Hdd now?
Read this link, it my help.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-70829
IF this is an old hdd( now secondary drive), that USE to have a functional vista system, you can't View the Q drive
because it  is NOT set as an ACTIVE partition.   If this is the case, diskpart DOS command can make the Q drive Active, and thus delete able.

  • Why am I unable to open Photoshop from my Adobe Application Manager?

Whenever I attempt to open Photoshop on my Application Manager nothing happens.  On the right hand side it says that Photoshop is up to date, but it doesn't give me the option to download.  Any suggestions?

JJMack gave you the correct answer.
It sounds to me that you were asking that question because of a possible misconception. namely that the application needs to be downloaded every time you want to use it.  That is incorrect.
Once installed, the Photoshop application resides permanently on your hard disk.  If Photoshop is fully updated, there's absolutely nothing to "download".

  • Lightroom opens Photoshop CC opens backup copy on external disk not copy on MacHD????

When using Edit In function form Lightroom (latest) the backup version of PS CC on an external is being opened rather than the app on Mac HD.......
    Why would this happen??

Because the OS doesn't realize that it's a backup disk and sees a perfectly good application there.
