  • Lightroom preview cache error messge

hello, I keep on getting an error message "Lightroom has encountered an error while reading the preview cache and must quit". can anyone tell me what the problem is and help me solve it?
    thanks in advance
    abel

As the message says.....the preview cache has a problem, probably there's a corruption in there somewhere, and this is preventing Lightroom from working. Easiest solution is to delete the existing preview cache, and on next start of Lightroom a new cache will be created. The downside is that initially there'll be no previews available although Lightroom will start to build new ones automatically, but only for images as they are brought on screen in the Grid or Filmstrip. Alternatively you can instruct Lightroom to build new previews (for ALL or just selected images) using the Library>Previews options, but if doing ALL you may want to set that going overnight as it can take a while depending on the number of images in the catalog.
The previews cache is contained in the sub-folder ending in "Previews.lrdata" which is adjacent to the catalog......just make sure you delete this folder, and NOT the catalog file ending in ".lrcat".

I get an error that says that LR5 encountered a preview cache error when trying to start LR5 and that it will try to fix it the next time it starts. What can I do to fix this error?

Go to the folder with you Lightroom Catalog (usually in Pictures) and delete the folder ending in .lrpreviews
This contains the previews for the files Lightroom has linked to. They will need to be rebuilt which can be done while working or selecting an amount you want to rebuild and accessing the rebuild command in the Library Dropdown menu...

  • Encountered SQL Developer Error 'Can't Start because MSVCR71.dll is missing

    Hello,
Thanks for looking at this entry
I have an older version of SQL developer and it suddenly won't run with the following error
'Can't Start because MSVCR71.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program.........'
And it is indeed missing. So, rather than download what might be a virus from the internet (new version of MSVCR71.dll ), I tried to do a new install of SQL developer from:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html
I put it on my D drive, unzipped and tried to launch.
It asked where I had java.exe (full path name). I found it at C:\Windows\System32\java.exe
Now I encounter: Cannot find J2SE SDK installed at path C:\Windows\System32\java.exe
    Please help

    Hi,
    The 32-bit and 64-bit Java 7 JDKs include only msvcr100.dll, 32-bit Java 6 includes only msvcr71.dll, and 64-bit Java 6 has neither!
Also, keep in mind that Java 7 is not certified yet for ANY* version of SQL Developer. The standard recommendation is to install the latest update in the Java 6 JDK code line (currently 1.6.0_45) and use that. Make sure to get the 32-bit version!

Corrected which Java downloads actually contain the msvcr71 and msvcr100 DLL versions. Sorry for messing it up the first time!

  • Lightroom 4.4 64-bit won't start-up; preview cache error

the error message is "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit.  Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem the next time it launches"  But it never gets past this screen regardless of now many times I try!

Delete your preview cache. It is a folder whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA, it is in the same folder as your Lightroom catalog. Do not delete anything else. Do not delete the LR catalog.

  • Lightroom 5 preview cache error

    Hi,
I have a new problem with an old issue. I have read as many threads as I could on it and cannot seem to fix these issue.
I had been using LR4 and added new drives to my Mac Pro 2009 OS 10.6.8 w/48RAM
I started getting the the "LR encountered an error when reading the preview cache and needs to quit" message.
I have since installed OS Yosemite and installed LR5.2
I followed the instructions to delete the Previews.Irdata and then get this message
I have older catalogs from LR2,3 and 4 on another drive. Please don't laugh, I have no idea what to do.
There are .Irdata files in most of those folders too.
    What do I do first?
I appreciate any suggestion and support.
    Thanks RPT

Looks like a general Mac problem rather than particular to Lightroom. A Google search for that exact error message shows a bunch of possible solutions.

  • Lightroom is crashing every time I open it with a "preview cache" error.

Says "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit." and then it forces it to close.  I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, restarting my computer (which is only a few months old).  As a photographer in the middle of the busy season, this is EXTREMELY frustrating!!  Help please!

Nice work, John. That seems totally random but I've not had this issue. How did you figure it out?

  • Lightroom Preview Cache Problem

I am running Windows 8.1.  When I start Lightroom 5.3, I get a dialog saying "Lightroom encountered a problem reading from it's preview cache and needs to quit."  Tried reinstalling.  Can't get past this.

Agree about deleting previews.  This doesn't cause any problems.  If Lightroom can't find a preview when it wants one, it simply recreates it.  The only penalty is that accessing images in Library Module may be a bit slower for a while.

  • Preview Cache Error

I keep getting an error when I try to open LR5. "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit. Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem the next time it launches." But every time I try to open I get this and it has not fixed itself. What needs to be done?

Delete the .lrdata folder that sits along side the Catalogue (.lrcat). Lightroom will create a new folder when it starts.

This is the forum for discussing development of LR plugins.  You'll have more success posting in the main LR user-to-user forum: Photoshop Lightroom.
But before you post, a search using the "Search Communites" box in the upper right shows there are many threads discussing their error message: https://forums.adobe.com/search.jspa?q=Lightroom+encountered+an+error+when+reading+from+it s+preview+cache+and+needs+to+q…

  • LR4 Give Preview Cache Error

Every time I use LR4, it encounters an error at some point in the first 10 minutes of use.  It always says, "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from it's preview cache and needs to quit".  What can I do to resolve this issue?

I renamed the *lrdata folder to *lrdata.old then rebooted into LR and let LR rebuild that folder.  Seems to be working so far.  I'll let you know if this isn't a fix.
