Lightroom Raw and CR2 from my new 70d

I just purchased my very own Canon 70d.  I find that the RAW module I have in Photoshop Elements 9 is not compatible with the .CR2 raw files my new camera generates, nor can the Organizer recognize the .CR2 format.  I wanted to find out what the differences are between the RAW module appropriate for Elements 12 and Lightroom 5.  I have not been able to find any specifics on the differences between the two.  I get generic statemenst like "It's better."  What does it do and in what way?  I am a very techincal kind of guy and like specs when I can get them.
Could someone point me in the right direction, either what the differences are or where I can read about them?
Thanks in advance;
Tony

I cannot give you the technical information that you might be searching for. But I can tell you that raw editing using Lightroom gives you far more flexibility than it will with any version of Photoshop Elements. You have additional "tabs" in Lightroom that give you more control over your image. Tone curve, hue/saturation adjustments, etc. I cannot give you a complete list because I have never used Camera Raw using Photoshop Elements. Additionally, the Process Version 2012 that you would have in Lightroom 5 offers the radial filter that I don't believe is available in any version of Photoshop Elements. If you upgraded to the latest version of Photoshop Elements you would have the new process version. But some of the features in Camera Raw will not be available. I think choosing Lightroom would be a good choice, but you need to take time to watch some tutorials so you understand how it works.

  • Lightroom and cr2 from my new Canon T3i :( ?

What's the story...? Neither Lightroom nor photoshop can open CR2 files from my new Canon rebel T3i? I've never had an issue with raw files as I have a bunch of canon cameras. Canon says it's not their problem. Is this on Adobe? I don't understand this phenomena.  It seems particular to this camera and that is worrisome... do different cameras write raw files differently? Isn't a raw file a raw file? Even when I copied the files off the card onto the desktop still can't open them.
Am using Mac OS 10.6.7, lightroom 2, PS CS 4
Advice/insight would be appreciated as I still have time to return the camera :-)
    thanks,
    tom

If you've never had problems then your version of Adobe products has always been newer than your camera model.
Each new camera requires specific updates to Camera RAW and Lightroom to support it.  Adobe only updates the current versions of software with new camera support.  This means you'd need Lightroom 3.4 and Photoshop CS5 with ACR 6.4 to handle the new T3i.  These two versions are in beta, right now, from Adobe Labs.  Time to upgrade.
If you don't want to upgrade the alternative is to use the DNG Converter, and convert your CR2s to DNGs.  These will be readable by older versions of LR and ACR.
The DNG Converter that supports the T3i is the DNG Converter 6.4 Release Candidate from Adobe Labs:

Click into the Camera RAW 6.4 RC a couple clicks an you'll get the download link for DNGC 6.4 RC for a Mac.

  • RAW (NEF) photos from my new Nikon D750 will not open with Photoshop Elements11 Camera RAW.

RAW (NEF) photos from my new Nikon D750 will not open in Camera RAS with Photoshop Elements 11. This has not been a problem with previous Nikon cameras. I'm using a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.9.5. How can I solve this problem?  Thanks.

Aside from upgrading to pse 13, you can use the 8.7.1 adobe dng converter to convert the files to dng copies, which pse 11 should then open.

  • HT4007 Does Aperture support Images and videos from the new 3D cameras?

Does Aperture support Images and videos from the new 3D cameras?

If the camera is listed here OS X Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats or here Mac OS X v10.6: Supported digital camera RAW formats then the raw image file is supported by Aperture.
If the camera is not listed then as Keith wrote if it produces JPG's they can be imported into Aperture.
If you told us what camera you were interested in it might help.

  • I have an iPhone 4 that i was trying to fix and now it will not turn on at all is there anyway that i can access all my pictures and contacts from my new phone or pc? It is also on the same apple id, but i dont know if that would help with anything.

I have an iPhone 4 thats i was trying to fix and now it will not turn on at all is there anyway that i can access my pictures and contacts from my new phone or pc? Aslo the are both on the same apple id but i dont know if that would help or not.

Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
Pictures taken with the device are designed to regularly be copied off the device to a computer as would be done with any digital camera.
If you have failed to use the device as designed it may be too late to recovery anything.
Is the device regularly backed up to a computer via iTunes?  If so, the most recent backup (when restored to a replacement iOS device) should contain all contacts and pictures as of when the backup was created.

Images I move from one folder into another are disappearing, at first it was occurring immediately and only if I did not copy and paste the images. Today however I found out that images I had been using for days just up and vanished from their new location. A few of these images had copies in another folder that remained and the ones I couldn't find may or may not have ever had copies. I had backed up my system with time machine recently as well, so I went into the backup to retreive the lost images. When I searched and found the backup copies I got the error "the file alias cannot be opened because the original cannot be located". The crazy thing is that the images that remained on my computer did not give me the same error and opened like they should.
In short images that I am creating, saving, and using are disapearing so epically that even time machine versions are affected when retrieval is attempted. Any suggestions as to what I could be doing wrong without realizing it? Or perhaps other people have had similar bugs that are software related and have a solution?

    Hi Kevin,
I understand what you tried to do but it doesn't work that way. Swapping drive names will just mess things up.
You should be able to reconnect the files though: in the Locate Referenced Files dialog make sure you click the Show Reconnect Options button — this will give you access to all the connected drives. Locate one of the files and hit Reconnect All. Should do the trick.

  • How do I convert my Raw Filws taken from my new Nikon d750 camera using Photoshop Elements 11??

How do I convert my Raw Filws taken from my new Nikon d750 camera using Photoshop Elements 11??How do I convert my

The D750 isn't yet supported. It may be a few weeks before Adobe provides an update for the latest versions of Photoshop/Elements. Maybe October/November.
They usually provide a pre-release version a few weeks beforehand (any day now, hopefully), but AFAIK they don't usually work on Photoshop Elements.

You'll have to do another restore from the old phone backup.  But before doing that, tell us what was not restored.  For example is it just photos that didn't get restored?  If so, that seems to be a common problem for many users, judging by the posts left in the forum.  There doesn't seem to be a solution to that problem (other then to tell users to ALWAYS sync photos to a computer and never trust an iCloud backup/restore to save photos.

  • PE11 will not import raw-file (.CR2) from Sony SX50.

PE11 with camera raw 7.2 will not import .CR2 from Sony SX50.
    (Camera not supported...)
Sony sx50 is on the list of supported cameras and .CR2 on the list of supported files!

    Hi,
ACR 7.3 should aplly to PSE 11 - it is on mine.
If you load the editor, go to the Help menu and see what it displays for About Plug-in -> Camera RAW - see which version is loaded.
There should be an updates option too, towards the bottom of the list - I'm on a PC so it may be different if you are on a MAC

  • I found an old iPod classic of mine.  It's not synced to my new MacBook Pro.  How can I get the music and photos off of it and on to my new computer?  When I plug it in to my new computer it wants to erase what is on it and transfer from my new computer.

I found an old iPod classic of mine that is synced to a computer that is long gone.  I want to get the music and photos from this old iPod onto my new computer.  Every time I hook the iPod up to my new computer it wants to delete what is on the iPod and replace with the contents of the iTunes that is currently on the new computer.  I don't want to do that.  I want to keep what is on the old iPod and transfer it to iTunes.  Any help?  Thanks!

  • TS3274 How do I remove hundred of photos and videos from my new iPad mini, that were downloaded via my iMac from an earlier iPad2 backup?

When restoring my old iPad2 (32G) via itunes on my iMac, thousands of pictures/videos from the last 2 years were downloaded along with apps and mail. The new mini is the 16G version and I am eating up memory with all these photos and videos. Selecting the photos in the iPad mini wont let me put them into trash.
How can I get rid of all these other albums and revert to just storing photos in my camera roll?

You have to connect the iPad to the Mac and deselect the photos in the Photos tab of iTunes and follow that with a sync in order to remove the photos.
Connect the iPad to the Mac and launch iTunes.
Select your iPad from Devices in the upper right or in the left sidebar of iTunes, if the sidebar is enabled.
Click on the Photos tab in the iTunes window on the right.
Uncheck all of the albums and videos that you want to remove under the Sync Photos from heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes.
If you want to remove all photos, uncheck the "Sync Photos From" heading and then click on Apply. If you can't see the sidebar, go to View>Show sidebar from the iTunes menu at the top.

  • Comments and questions from a new Entourage switcher

When Leopard came out, I decided to take the plunge and move from 7 years of Entourage-ing over to the whole Mail/Address Book/iCal/.mac combo.
It's been a challenge, and one I'm glad I'm making. I really see the future lies here, especially with all the great GTD tools (like OmniFocus) that are so well integrated into these Mac apps.
I have a bunch of things that I'd like to ask or comment on, that I've collected since the switch. I hope these don't sound like whining. More, it's really to stimulate conversation in these areas to find out if anyone has found workarounds, add-on utilities, or even if I'm not doing something right.
*1. Checking If They're Already In Address Book.* If I get an email from someone, I like to know if they're already in my Address Book. In Entourage, you'd right-click, select "Add to Address Book" and if they were already in there, a window would pop up, saying, "This already exists, would you like to add to it, or just open the contact". In Mail, there's no such checking, so clicking on "Add to Address Book" can end up duplicating and triplicating what's already there. In other words, I'm looking for a quick way to open up that person's contact info.
Oddly enough, sometimes a right-click on someone's email address, who is already in ones Address Book, will bring up an "Open in Address Book." However, it's extremely inconsistent. My own brother's emails don't work like that. But odd companies, whom I rarely get email from, will show it.
*3. No Categories.* This is the biggest missing piece for me. If I get an email from someone that treats me with familiarity, but I don't recognize them, there's no way to go into my address book and tell what relationship I have with that contact. Client? Acquaintance? Purchaser? Relative I only met once? This is because there seems to be no way to attach a Category to each contact. Once you have over 2000 contacts, it becomes difficult to remember what each person or company is there for (we have over 5200). Which product did they purchase? Or are they a vendor. Someone I met at a party? Ex girlfriend? There is the Mail Group function, but those act more like Smart folders and aren't attached to the actual contact, so when viewing the All Contacts, there's no way of telling who's who. Even if there were simply a way to color each contact, those colors could act as a category, and one could sort by them. This is my major concern right now with Mail over Entourage. Here's hoping someone creates a utility that does just this!
*4. No Easy Way to Copy Entire Address.* Every hour, we are copying addresses and pasting them into a customized DYMO label (that has our return address and company logo on it). There doesn't seem to be any way to grab the entire mailing address in one Copy. You can highlight/copy the address, street and zip, and paste that into, for instance, a Dymo label, but you have to go back and grab the name separately. The Print function has some very interesting ways to print (including to a plain default Dymo label), but since we have customized labels, we just need to copy the address ourselves.
*5. Search Function Blandness*. The search function could use more refinement. If you search for "Comcast," you logically get all of the contacts that have "comcast.com" in their email address (Further, if the word happens to be in the Notes field, it'll bring those up as well). But there should be a way where it gives precedent to the actual Comcast company contact—which the word "Comcast" in the company field—instead of being forced to scroll through hundreds of contacts to find the actual one I'm looking for.
*6. Auto Name Fill To Slow.* When entering names in an email name field, you can't go very fast, because Mail takes a couple of seconds or so to recognize the name you're typing. For instance, if I'm sending an email to Mark, and type Mar, Mail autofills the rest for "Mark Smith" but the spinning thingie is still spinning, and if I don't wait that extra second, and hit tab or Return, Mail just puts in an empty "Mar" without any email address. I have to wait until the spinning thingie stops before hitting tab or return. When entering 5 or 10 email addresses, this is a hassle. Often I find that even after the spinning thingie stops, and Mail looks like it has autofilled, if I click Tab or Return, the address often still didn't fill correctly. It only stopped at the 3 or 4 letters that I'd typed in. If I didn't catch the error, I think I've sent it, only to get an error message later on.
*7. iCal Alarm Window.* They forgot the lower right corner resize thing in the iCal Reminder window! And regardless of the number of alarms (I often have 20 or more), the green button is always grayed out. So if you have 20 or 30 iCal reminders, you can only view them one at a time in that small window, and have to use the up and down arrows. I'd like to be able to drag this window down so I can view all 20 at a time.
*8. Limited iChat Alarm Window Delay options.* If you want to delay (called "repeat" in iCal lingo) any to-do in the iCal Alarm window, you have options for 1 minute, 5, 15, and 30 minutes, 1 and 2 hours, 1 day and 1 week. It'd be great to if a hack were developed that allowed for other useful delays, such as "tomorrow morning" (so one can see everything all at once first thing in the morning), 2 days, 3 days, and 2 weeks. A "4 hours" would be handy as well, since that's like saying "bug me this afternoon."
Again, don't misinterpret this as whining, I'm digging the move and am totally committed to it. I just want to see if anyone has wondered about any of these, too, and has discovered a workaround (or a pref I'm not seeing!) or knows of a 3rd-party utility (or downright hack).
Thanks for any ideas on these.
    Edit: corrected some misspellings...

Re: Categories - I too miss that and I've 'solved' it two different ways. First, I set up groups which helps me find someone who I know within a certain context. ie, I know I'm looking for John who is a student. I look in the student group for all the Johns. Second, I use the note entry to jot down things I want to remember about the person.
