Lightroom Remote Disc Installation

I'd like to buy a copy of Lightroom 5 for Mac. I've a retina MacBook Pro (i.e. no disc drive) and an iMac with a disc drive. If I use Remote Disc and put the disc into the iMac to install on the laptop, am I likely to encounter any problems or will it be smooth sailing? I've read a couple of posts about people having trouble with older versions of the Creative Suite and Remote Disc.
Many thanks.

The easiest way would be to download the LR5 trial on the MBP Retina from the Adobe website
http://www.adobe.com/go/trylightroom
Then enter your serial number to license it.

  • Remote disc installation of CS3 fails on disc 2 of 2

I'm using a Mac Book Pro to install Adobe Creative Suite 3 - Web Premium, onto my Macbook Air, using the remote disc feature in Mac OSX.
The first installation disc (applications) installs and then it asks for the second disc (content) to be loaded - I insert the disc and wait a few seconds before clicking OK to continue but the message won’t go away.
Eventually I have to press Cancel and the installation fails. Tried this a few times now and I need to know if this is an Adobe or Mac OSX issue. Would be nice if Adobe could give me a direct download link for the software but they don't appear to support previous versions of CS.

In case you are able to copy contents of disc 2 to your local drive, then try performing a silent install. Or just create a local copy of installer (following Step1 and Step2) and run Setup from there.

  • INSTALLATION OF SNOW LEOPARD USING REMOTE DISC

    Hi
I have a Macbook Air circa 2009 v10.5.8 and have the installation disc for Snow Leopard which I have attempted to install via the optical drive in my Sony Vaio.  When I select Remote Disk on my Air, I can see the Snow Leopard Disc and it allows me to accept the Apple terms and proceeds to install but then seems to hang.  I then have to restart my Air by using the on/off button and have repeated the process several times to no avail.  I can see that the optical drive is working but it stops eventually presumably because it fails to connect to the Air. On the Air I receive a message to the effect that I need to run disc utility to repair a faulty disc but am unsure whether this is correct as Snow Leopard is a new disc which appears undamaged.  Any thoughts would be much appreciated.  By the way I am using the same wireless network for both computers.
    Thanks
    Neil

It would help with more information. Do both computers have Firewire ports? If so, then connect the computer without a DVD drive to the other computer using a Firewire cable. Boot the computer without a DVD drive into Target Disk Mode then after you see the TDM logo boot the other computer using the Snow Leopard DVD. You can install to the computer without a DVD drive by selecting its hard drive as the target destination.
You can only use Remote Disc if you have the software installed. If you have the software then you should find documentation along with it. You can download it from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • Can i install windows 7 via bootcamp (MB Air) while using remote disc? I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air. In bootcamp i allocate the partition then i click install and bootcamp will not see the disk.

Can i install windows 7 via bootcamp (on my MB Air) while using remote disc? I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air via remote disk. In bootcamp (on my air) i allocate the partition, then i click install, and bootcamp will not see the disk from my macbook pro's drive. How do i get the bootcamp assistant running on my MB air to automatically find the disk in my macbook pro with the ISO image of windows 7? The remote disk on my air can find the cd but bootcamp will not begin installing it. Anyway to do this without buying the damned usb drive?

I don't know first hand if you can use the Remote Disk option with Windows but as of 10.7.2 you can now use BCAssistant to make a bootable USB (thumb drive or external disk) W7 installer with the Boot Camp drivers installed also. Have you tried that yet?

  • Remote disc multidisc install

I'm having trouble installing a program that comes on 2 discs. The first disc install fine, then I am prompted by the installer to insert the second disc. I insert the second disc on a 13" macbook pro, and nothing happens on my air. I went to the finder on the air and asked to share the second disc, and still no recognition or continuation of the install.
Has anyone attempted a multidisc install via remote disc? If so, did you encounter the same problem I am having? Were you able to continue the install, and if so, how? Thanks.

I had the same issue but it worked once I asked to use drive again, then double clicked on the disk in finder... this then mounts it to your desktop & voila.
Am running OS 10.6.6 on a MacBook Air using a 10.5.8 MacPro for a drive.
    Hope it works for you.

  • Remote Disc not able to Install Aperture 2

How can I install Aperture 2 on my MacBook Air? I receive an error message saying that installation can not occur over a network connection. I understood that using Remote Disc with the MacBook Air (without a DVD/CD drive) would take care of this.

I installed Aperture 2 on my MacBook Air a few days ago (boxed UK educational package). I had no problem using Remote Disc. Making a disc image from the DVD and installing from the image also works.

    Hi Chris,
As you might have guessed the issue seems to be the permissions related. Can you please check if the user account of the machine have all the permissions to access the contents within the DVD? Since you said that the DVD is working fine on other machine so that proves that issue is not with the DVD. Can you try to repair the permissions on the machine?

  • Can't install Photoshop (CS3) via Remote Disc

I was successfully able to install iWork '08 last night via Remote Disc, but I've tried twice to install Photoshop and both times it failed. I was able to get on Acrobat Professional and some of the Shared Components, but after anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours it gives me a message saying that installation of Photoshop failed.
Anyone else had a similar problem?

Don't know about Windows issues since I was installing from my MBP. I can only imagine it's worse.
I was successful in dragging the entire Photoshop folder over from the MBP last night, but when I opened it it said that pieces were missing. That's the trouble with CS3; it's all so intertwined that it seems like you really need the installer to help you get just the bits you need.
I'm trying to embrace Steve's disc-less vision here, but I'm not sure if we're there yet. I don't want to break down and by the Superdrive, but it sounds like a lot of people got one (probably in anticipation of this kind of headache).

  • Using Remote Disc to transfer Office to Macbook Air and Time Machine backup

    Hello,
I just bought the new version of Macbook Air. At the store they said that transferring programs such as Office for Mac was as easy as just opening the sharing folderin preferences on my Imac and new Air and it would be a breeze. Do I have to install anything from the DVD that came with the Macbook Air to enable anything, or will I just, by wifi, start the two machines communicating?
Also, is there any easy way to just backup my last Time Machine backup from my Imac to the new Air, or does this take some doing? Can I backup the Time Machine info while still keeping all of the info on it for my usual work with the Imac?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

First, the instruction book that comes with your MBA will walk you step by step through how to use remote disc. Its not just an open and play thing -- you do have to futz with your other machine, copy over security codes to allow communication, etc -- but it will walk you right through it, so the manual is the place to start.
You can use your Time Machine backup by using the Migration Assistant -- that starts right off the bat when you first initialize your MBA right out of the box, or you can go to Applications>Utilities>Migration Assistant anytime you want.
One thing you should be aware -- you don't really have too many options for the migration -- it will copy over everything from your TIme machine so you better have enough room on your MBA to do that. You can select if you don't want files copied (i.e. music) but that is about it. I did just that wiht my MBP backup on TIme machine -- it was about 100 GB and my new MBA is 120 GB. No problems there, worked perfectly.
Don't do your migration wirelessly -- about 100GB wirelessly on the MBA with a fast cable broadband connection would take 16 - 20 HOURS to do a migration. Connect your MBA via the optional ethernet dongle to an ethernet cable, and hardwire that to an open ethernet port on your router -- 100GB will then take about 2 - 3 hours instead.
ANother thing you should be aware of -- while Apple really touts the Remote Disc and wireless capabilities of the MBA, they are for the birds. Invest the 99.00 in a superdrive. It will be the happiest purchase you make for your MBA. If you install your MS Office via remote disc, for example, your installation will take about an hour. It takes 3 minutes with the superdrive. That is the same for anything you try to do via remote disc. Yeah, it works. It just takes hours and hours of your time. I don't know about you, but I have no interest in waiting an hour for a program to install.
As to your final question -- your Time Machine backup will ALWAYS remain associated with your iMac. After the migration assistant completes, you do not have a connection to that backup on your MBA anymore. You will have to do a fresh backup of your MBA if you want to back it up to your TIme machine. The Time machine makes a specific backup for each computer that you own. You can copy from the backup, but you can't reaccess it later. It will remain accessable to your iMac.

  • Extract Remote Disc Files From Install Disk

Can the remote disk install files be extracted (maybe the wrong word) from the install disk or be downloaded from somewhere so that I can put them onto a USB drive instead of carrying around my Macbook Air install disks? I'd rather not carrying around my original disks.
I tried to create a disk image of them, that worked out fine, but couldn't get them to fit onto the 4.7 gig DVD's that I have....
TIA for any and all help.

I know I sound Lazy but there must be someplace to Download the installs for the Remote Disc online somewhere? If not can someone please post it somewhere. It makes no sense to have to carry a DVD around. Pretty Please?

  • Remote Disc wont install on 12"PB

The software package to install the disk sharing will not launch on my 12" Powerbook (OSX 10.4.11). I have copied the package several times from the MB Air install disk. Repaired permissions as well.
But when I try to launch the installer nothing happens. Frustrated. Any ideas?

Don't 'copy' the remote disc install; it installs from the dvd when you insert the dvd into the 12" PB. I had no problem installing directly from the disc. Simply put the dvd into the 12" slot and click the install package.

  • Lightroom 3.2 Installation Problem on Windows 7 64-bit

Lightroom 3.2 Installation Problem on Windows 7 64-bit
I can't install Lightroom 3.2 (German) on my computer (Windows 7 Professional 64-bit).
While copying the extracted program files the following error message appears:
An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {6435B7C0-E0C8-3EA2-91AE-7640034EAFCE}. HRESULT: 0x80070002.
I found out that other users had the same problem, and couldn't find a solution.
Perhaps it is a Microsoft .NET Framework related problem. But after installing .NET Framework 4 nothing changed.
Thanks for ideas to solve the problem.

Thanks for your advice, Mr. McLion.
I downloaded the 3.4.1 version and started the installation as administrator. Unfortunately the same error message occured again.
Then I tried to install the 32-bit version (although I prefer a 64-bit program on a 64-bit operating system). A similar error message appeared at the same point of installation progress, but with another combination of numbers and letters in brackets.

Remote Disc Can't recognize Blank disc, but it does recognize other discs. I am trying to burn something from my itunes on my mac mini to a blank disc on my windows computer. What could be wrong?
I can see other discs such as music and stuff so I know I have installed it correctly but how come I can't see the blank disc that I need to burn?

You can't burn discs remotely, you can only read data discs remotely (i.e. you cannot play movie DVDs either).
Either copy the files to the remote computer or get an external drive.

  • ITunes import using Home Sharing and Remote Disc

I would like to import a music CD from my MacBook Pro to my MacBook Air using iTunes. I'm running the latest version of Mavericks (10.9.1) on both computers.
Here are the steps that I have followed:
Home Sharing is enabled on both computers
I load the CD into the Pro's optical drive, but tell it not to import to the Pro's library
On the Air, I select Add to Library, then select the Remote Disc
When the Pro appears, I select it
At this point, I can see that there is a disc loaded into the Pro and I select it, but the "Open" button remains grayed out
    What am I missing here?

I tried the same thing and got the same results as you. The reason the button is grayed out is that the operation is not supported directly.
"Note: These types of discs or activities are not supported by DVD or CD sharing:
    DVD movies.
    Audio CDs."

    Oh well!

  • Remote disc for Apple TV or other ways to steam DVD to Apple TV

When Blue-Ray finally joins the free world and stops refusing to play because your entire playback path does not support end-to-end encryption as dictated by the movie companies, I will want to stick a Blue-Ray disk in a drive and watch it. And until AppleTV will do that, either on an internal drive or by network drive sharing, until it can REPLACE one or more of the boxes sitting under my TV instead of just adding another box to the mass, I really have no use for it.
don't buy it then, simple as that.
