Lightroom rendering Sigma dp1x .x3f files black

Hi,
Hoping someone can help.  I just got a Sigma dp1x.  LR renders all my x3f raw files black.  A normal preview will show up, but when I attempt to edit the photo, the picture goes completely black.  I am running LR4.1 and ACR 7.1 win 7.
Please help!

  • 4.1 rc1 - unable to read monochrome Sigma DP X3F files

    Sigma DP2s
    LR 4.1 rc1
I import .X3F files to LR catalogue from SD card via card reader.
LR reads and allows me to edit these OK
If I then edit the .X3F files using Sigma Photo Pro  v5.1, and change WB to "Monochrome", then save the modification to the raw file (in SPP5.1), and then attempt to look at it in LR in the develop module,  I get the error "There was a problem working with the file"..
Followed by "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo. You will not be able to make adjustments to the photo."
I have tried this a number of times with different X3F image files with the same result.
I have tried (separately) synchronizing, deleting and re-importing the file with the same result.
LR3 worked perfectly in this regard - if a .X3F file was imported, then changed using SPP5.1 to mono, the effect would be immediately seen in LR without errors.
NB If I then set the WB back from monochrome in SPP5.1, LR is able to work with theimage file again with noerrors.
I have also encountered similar error messages when trying to export jpgs from edited .tiff files created using a film scanner, which may be related. When or if I can reproduce that I will start a separate thread.

Lightroom is raw conversion software and once your camera is supported it will be able to process the raw data. However if you use other raw conversion software to process the raw data or partially process the raw file you have altered the raw file and Lightroom will no longer be able to process. With raw data you can only choose one chef.

  • Using Sigma DP1 Raw X3F files via Adobe DNG Converter to Aperture 2.1.2

I wish to use Aperture 2.1.2 with my Sigma DP1 raw ( X3F format) photos.
I used the latest Adobe DNG converter 5.1.0.30 to successfully convert Sigma DP1 X3F to DNG format files. After importing the DNG files into an Aperture directory, they were not an acceptable file format, and thus I could not use them.
Does this mean that Aperture is not reading the DNG file correctly or Adobe has got it wrong with their DNG conversion of the X3F file format ?
Do I need to wait for an Aperture update to fix the problem of using the X3F file format ? Is there a solution around in using Aperture with Sigma X3F raw photos ?

Aperture does not currently support Sigma X3F or linear DNG (only raw DNG), and Adobe's DNG Converter can only yield a linear DNG from an X3F. So your only choices right now are to use a different product such as Lightroom which does support X3F, or use the supplied Sigma Photo Pro software to generate 16 bit TIFFs which you can then import into Aperture. Because Sigma Photo Pro is unstable and slow on Macs, I've been effectively forced to use Lightroom. Lightroom is a capable product, but it lacks the elegance of Aperture, so I remain dimly hopeful that Apple will eventually support X3F, and somewhat more hopeful that it will at the very least eventually support linear DNG.

  • Issue w/ ACR v6.x/v5.x and WB settings stored in .X3F files by Sigma SPP converter

    Hi,
if I will use Sigma SPP raw converter (3.5.x or 4.x) to work with .X3F raw files and select "monochrome" WB there and then quit SPP leaving that setting (SPP stores processing settings in .X3F files, almost like you can do w/ .DNG files) then Adobe ACR v5.x / 6.x for whatever reason will allow to process .X3F as a greyscale image, I mean ACR will have a lot of controls disable (like WB, vibrance, saturation, ...). So I need to go back to SPP and change WB settings to anything different from "monochrome" to be able to process .X3F in ACR normally. Can it be fixed or Adobe is using some Sigma provided SDK to open .X3F files and locked into what Sigma says it can or can't ? Because it looks stupid that settings used in Sigma's raw converter are affecting what ACR can or can't do !
    Thank you.

I recently processed some pics inside SPP, and it's amazing how much
better the colors are (a bit too saturated sometimes), I can't get the
same results at all in ACR/LR.
when we are talking about "better" it is a matter of personal preferences... and then you can create your own profiles for ACR, you can't for SPP... then you ought to try SilkyPix for Sigma raws.
I was under the impression that adobe was using a black box provided by
Sigma to read the files (a lot of things point to it : the monochrome WB
    issue, the mandatory noise reduction...)
I doubt it is a black box - they should have a source code, just may be they signed an agreement which limits what they can do ? which makes me wonder whether ISL (SilkyPix) has the same arrangement with Sigma as SilkyPix does not have for example "monochrome" issue (like ACR which gets stuck into B/W mode if the raw file was left marked as monochrome by SPP)... or ISL reverse engineered the file format and wrote the code all by itself ?
    PS:
    Sigma .X3F @ ISO3200 NR by ACR
vs the same by SilkyPix w/o NR and NR done in postprocessing

  • Sigma x3f file format

The DNG profile in have created for my SD14 is not available in either Lightroom 2.1 or Camera Raw 4.6 when I edit a x3f file. The only choice available is "embedded". If I convert the x3f file to a dng file, then both Lightroom 2.1 and Camera Raw 4.6 allow me to choose the new profile. Is there a solution to this issue without having to convert all of my images to the dng format? I am running Vista 64 ultimate on an Inter q6600 processor with 8 gig of ram.

Thanks for the quick response. Is there any chance that this might change in the future?

  • X3F files supported on the iPad

anybody knows if the X3F Raw files (Sigma/Foveon) are supported by any application on the iPad? And in case they are, any idea how fast the iPad cpu actually is opening/processing my Sigma SD10 files?!? Thanks

    Hello,
I have two iPads. I just purchased the Sigma DP1x that was released in September 2010. Having the Sigma Raw format ( X3F ) recognized and supported would be an amazing workflow asset.
From Sigma on their intent: "The old YCbCr 4:2:2 format was designed for efficient signal transmission, and not for high-quality output. The new RAW format is intended to preserve the high-presence, high-quality, accurate, and balanced data" coming off new camera technology that makes for "truly emotional images and opens up new creative channels."

  • Elements 9 Organizer: Sigma D2 X3F and Adobe DNG

How do I make Adobe Elements 9 Organizer to automatically add new Adobe DNG files created from Sigma D2 X3F RAW files into my library?
I use Elements 9 Organizer to download and organize X3F RAW and JPEG files.  After editing an X3F RAW file, I save it and Elements 9 Organizer automatically saves it into a DNG file.  I want to discard the X3F RAW file and just keep DNG file.  When I go back to Elements 9 Organizer, it shows only X3F RAW files and not the DNG's that were created out of the former.  Do I need to import the DNG's into my library for me to see them?  Is there a setting I can change that Elements 9 Organizer is able to display all files in my pictures folder?
    Thanks.
    Mac OS X 10.6.5

There is the Watch Folders functionality on WINDOWS which would solve your purpose. I don't think PSE 9 MAC supports the Watch Folder functionality.
    On Windows:
You can use the watch folders to automatically import any new media added in a specific folder. You can find the Watch Folder option under File->Watch Folder
You can then choose the folders from where you would like to automatically import files into Elements Organizer:
Choose the Automatically Add Files to Organizer radio button on the Watch Folders dialog.
Now whever you add any new media in any of the folders from the list on the Watch Folder dialog it will automatically be imported in Elements Organizer

I am unable to launch Lightroom 5 Catalog.Ircat.  A black rectangle says: Lightroom - Opening Catalog: Lightroom 5 Catalog.Ircat, but it never opens.

I have Windows 7 Home premium, Lightroom 5.6 64bit  The program was working
properly till a few weeks ago.  At that time I was not able to get my
files.  There was the little question mark on them.  I have three external
drives with pictures in them.  H and G drives all have question marks as to
the location of the original pictures.  I drive which I share with a laptop
where it work just fine and had been working fine now I can no longer
access Lightroom 5 Catalog on it.
I noticed two or three days ago that when I opened Lightroom it opened
another Catalog Call Lightroom Catalog 2.  So when I tried to launch
Lightroom Catalog 5, I get the long rectangular bar with the message
"Lightroom - Opening Catalog: Lightroom Catalog.Ircat".  But it never
opens.  The message just sits there.  There are error messages.   The
external drive with Lightroom 5 Catalog.Ircat continues to work fine on my
    laptop.
    Your help is much appreciated.

  • Support for Sigma DP2M x3f

When will support for the above camera be available in LR4 or CS6 ( I have both) ?
    Thks
    Tim

Jim Stop and think what you are saying.  Take a look at the number of cameras that aresupported and are continually supported under LR or Photoshop.Sigma wants to sell cameras right ?  The camerain question is nothing more than a Foven in a body ...full stop.  You would thing is you wantto sell what is a good sensor (not camera) for landscapes and you are trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear from a camera function standpoint you would appeal to the editing audience that use LR and Photoshop. They can't do anything about the camera's functionsat this point but they sure could from a workflow perspective.  Any review on this camera is all about the great  sensorand all the negatives (and there are tons) is all about functionality.   It does not seem to matterto other camera manufactures that they share their proprietary file formats because they want theirpotential buyers to be able to edit under some of the best editing software currentlyavailable and if you are already an Adobe user that may have some bearing whether youbuy the camera or not.  It's not rocket science. To further support my contention I havegarnered the Sigma distributor in Canada's support on this particular issue.  In other words it makes not sense tothem either, if Sigma wants to sell anything with a Foven then have raw supported in LR andPhotoshop.  Most upgrades in LR and Photshop are to add the new cameras as they come on stream except Sigma Foven.  As to being asenseless discussion I disagree...Sigma owners need to howl like hell to get their attention andsmarten up !  Sigma's first foray with the sensor was in the high end arena.  It went nowhereand they finally had to blow them out a fire sale prices.  I think they are a buck short whenit comes to marketing their Foven sensor products.  They should stick to lenses.  They get thatright sometimes. t

As long as we have to continue to deal with proprietary raw formats this issue is not going to be resolved satisfactorily for the consumers.  There has been very little cooperation, as far as I know, between camera manufacturers and Adobe.  And why should there be?  Some camera makers (Nikon for one) sell their own software.  So, why would they want to cooperate with Adobe?  Adopting the DNG format would be a solution, but not very many camera makers are going in that direction.  And until acceptance is much more widespread I'm not interested in using DNG.  I suppose this discussion could go on for pages.  But it's kind of senseless.  Adobe provides support as quickly as it can.  But there is never in any indication beforehand telling us what to expect.

  • When will Lightroom support Sigma DP1/2/3m ?

When will Lightroom support Sigma DP1/2/3m ?

Contrary to popular belief, Adobe needs to buy a production camera just like everyone else. The camera makers are so afraid of competition that they - none of them - give away anything, to anyone, and certainly not in advance. Most of them are also so afraid of competition that they still refuse to support DNG, a universal and openly documented raw file format that could have been the industry standard today if it wasn't for this paranoia. Then you would have had instant Lightroom support for the camera fresh off the shelf.
So the answer is: it happens when the Lr team has had time to reverse-engineer and profile it. Probably next Lr release, but no one knows.
(I'm saving this reply for whenever the question "when will camera xyz be supported" comes up, which is about twice a day).

  • Is there any way to get lightroom 4 to recognise raw files from my 7d Mark 2?

I have been searching on here for a few days now, but can't seem to get my head around the answers I got a new 7D mark 2 a few weeks ago.  When I first came to download my pictures from the card I was only marginally surprised they were unreadable - I'd forgotten to format the memory card to the camera.  No big deal, I thought, merrily deleting the photos Lightroom couldn't read and formatting the card.  But now that I have formatted the card, I am kindof upset that Lightroom still cannot read the files at all.  I have downloaded the DNG converter and updated all my software, but if the files are not being read at all, how am I supposed to convert them?
What am I supposed to do? I can see the photos on the camera itself - I usually shoot in Raw and JPEG to cover myself, but this time Lightroom isn't reading either format.  If I shoot purely in JPEG I can download them without problem, but together (jpeg and raw) I can't see either.
Tech wise I have a hp laptop, 4GB RAM, 2tb hd (separate), Windows 7 64-bit os, Lightroom 4 and Photoshop Elements 12.
    Help me please?
    Thanks

I have downloaded the DNG converter and updated all my software, but if the files are not being read at all, how am I supposed to convert them?
You use the DNG converter (version 8.7 or later) to convert the RAW to DNG. This is a separate step, outside of Lightroom, before you import. Then th DNGs will be import-able into Lightroom 4.
I usually shoot in Raw and JPEG to cover myself, but this time Lightroom isn't reading either format.
If your card has both JPG and RAW, Lightroom isn't reading the JPGs? Could you give us the error message or describe what is happening? Also make sure that the option to treat JPG next to RAW as separate photos is checked. Lightroom Help | Set import preferences

I am trying to import cr2files from the camera into lightroom 5 and keep getting an error message saying Lightroom can not read the files and therefore will not import them.  Has anyone had a similar problem….thanks

If you are having the same problem, i.e. a disk permission problem, open your favorite search engine and search on, "change disk permissions", and I think you'll find plenty of information on how to fix the problem. This is a Lightroom forum. Your problem is with your operating system. There is no sense in rewriting instructions that are already available if you do a simple search.

  • Lightroom 5.2 Error: The file could not be edited because Photoshop CC could not be launched...

When I am using Lightroom 5.2, and I try to edit a file in Adobe Photoshop CC from Lightroom, Photoshop starts up and after 15 to 20 seconds, I receive the following error message: "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CC could not be launched." If I click "OK" on the error message form, the image finally opens in Photoshop.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom 5.2 and Photoshop CC multiple times, but the edit in Photoshop problem won't go away.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?
    Thanks,
    Mark

I am having the same problem in lightroom 5 on a mac (Mavericks).  I'm wondering if it's because I have both Photoshop CS5 and Photoshop CC and somehow they are conflicting, but I don't see how.  I clearly have Photoshop CC as the primary external editor.
Last night, after seeing this post, and ekupp's response, I uninstalled Photoshop CC and reinstalled it via the creative cloud and that fixed it, but today it's doing the same thing again. When I choose to edit in photoshop CC, Photoshop CC opens but I still get the error in lightroom.  If Photoshop CC is already open, I still get the error.  I refuse to keep uninstalling/reinstalling it...  I can't lose Photoshop CS5 as I use it for designing (I like the view in mini bridge better), but I like CC for editing.
This is creating a secondary problem for me as I am ending up with a bazillion (OK, maybe 5) psd copies of the raw files that I want to edit.  When I get the error, Lightroom proceeds to render the files.  I really want to turn that function off because as of now I have to try to click the microscopic "x" for each file as it "prepares to edit" and that's tedious and is creating extra files I don't want.
Last thing, since I'm here and hopeful to get an answer...  I have a Mac, as I stated and I like my spaces.  However, when the "edit in photoshop" function works spaces continues to force me to the photoshop space.  No multitasking allowed as my files are opened.  I think this is a lightroom or photoshop quirk, as when I run actions I am able to go to a different space (safari or lightroom) to work as it works for me.

  • I just got a new Mac Mini, and now when I try to import photos into Lightroom, iPhoto try to load them first, then Lightroom can't find the files.  Big problem.  What to do?

I just got a new Mac Mini, and now when I try to import photos into Lightroom, iPhoto ties to load them first, then Lightroom can't find the files.  Big problem.  What to do?

    Simple:
File -> Export to get your photos out of the iPhoto Library. In the Export dialogue you can set the kind to Original and you'll get back exactly what you put in.
Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
Once exported, you can then trash the iPhoto Library - just drag it from the Pictures Folder to the trash and empty it.
After that, if you're entirely neurotic about it, just put the iPhoto app in the trash and empty it.

  • When i choose a picture in Lightroom 5, a popup says file not found.  What am i doing wrong?

When I choose a picture in Lightroom 5, and click on Develop, it was file not found.  What am I doing wrong?

It means the photo has been moved, renamed or deleted outside of Lightroom (Hint: don't do that)
To fix the problem, either move the photo back to where it was (using your operating system), or re-connect in Lightroom following these instructions: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
