Lightroom shuts down...

I am running LR2.3 and Photoshop CS4 on Mac OSX 10.5.6. I can send images to PS to edit using the LR external editor command with no problem. After working on an image in PS and choosing to save it, most of the time LR will shut down during the import of the image back into LR. I will then have to reopen LR. The edited image will then be there, thankfully, but this constant shutting down is driving me a tad crazy. Any help or suggestions would be so appreciated! I did a search for this, but nothing came up.

So it is crashing! This doesn't tell us why (somewhere further in the crash log it might tell you if you can read those things). My best guess is that there is a corrupted file in that folder that Lightroom is crashing on when trying to load it. This might be due to damage to the hard disk structure. You should immediately run "repair disk" in Disk Utility on the hard disk to see if there are any issues and repair them. If this is your startup disk, you should verify it and if there are issues, start up from a system installer disk and run Disk Utility from there. If it is a malformed image, it is much harder to find those than hard disk damage unfortunately.

  • Lightroom shuts down when I open my catalog

I've upgraded from Windows Vista 64-bit to Windows 7 64-bit and reinstalled everything. After starting Lightroom 2.6 I go to File -> Open catalog and select my catalog. Lightroom says it needs to relaunch, I click OK, and Lightroom shuts down as it does when relaunching, except it doesn't start up again. No error message. When I start it manually, I get the default empty catalog instead of the one I want to open. If I set my catalog to the default catalog in the preferences, Lightroom won't start at all. Nothing happens when I click the shortcut on the start menu, until I delete the preferences file. Still, it won't open my catalog after deleting the preferences. I also have lots of backups of the catalog, and none of them work either. Anyone had this problem and know how to fix it? Will I have to downgrade to Vista?

Check your user account permissions for the Lightroom catalog and make sure you have full permissions for it. You may need to change the permissions for the drives and folders where the images are stored too.

Try resetting your SMC and NVRAM before attempting to install again.
    Resetting the NVRAM/PRAM

The NVRAM/PRAM stores information such as speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and recent kernel panic information (if any). You should reset the NVRAM/PRAM if you experience issues relating to these functions.

  • Please help!  Lightroom shuts down and re-starts EVERY time I export a file

I've used Lightroom for 2 years and it only started happening TODAY!  I need to edit my pictures in photoshop, but I can't get them from Lightroom because every time I hit the export button it starts the process and then my computer shuts down and then re-starts after a few seconds.  Why?  How can I fix it.  I'm a wedding photographer and need these pictures edited!  Any help is appreciated.

Check in the same folder/directory as your active .lrcat: there should be no xxxx.lock file when LR is quit; there should be one opened when LR is launched. Other than also deleting your Prefs file, perhaps the OS and version of LR would help.

  • Lightroom shuts down iMac i7

Hi, My late 2013 imac (13,2), i7 shuts down and is unresponsive for several minutes while I am using lightroom 5 (latest version). I have upgraded to yosemite from SL, removed bought OWC ram and reverted to stock 8gb, run disk doctor several times. Tried OnyX and Cocktail to no avail.
All software up to date - still shut down reoccurs after 5 to 15mins of regular lightroom editing. Ext HD is Lacie quad (where original files stored), usb3.
Most frustrating - as I use lightroom for work (freelance photographer). Please help.

    I Hope that this helps?

  • Lightroom shuts down when I try to change media type

LR 4.3, OS 10 Lion, Epson R3000.  I go into print settings to set the media type and other settings and I can't make any changes.   The attached screenshot shows what I see, which is not the same as usual for this dialogue box.  A few times I clicked on the media type and LR shut down.  I haven't had this problem before.

from what I read on the discussion boards there seems to be little or nothing to do that may not mess up the computer (Like jerky videos if Quicktime fix is tried) except wait for Apple to do a proper fix with updates at this point. I am not willing to try the fixes explained so far. The reviews of them are spotty on them working if at all. My I Tunes works on everything but the videos and that is better than nothing which did happen at first. So I will keep watching for any other fixes that might be promising or an Apple Update.

  • Lightroom shuts down unexpectedly

Im at my wits end with this program. It has crashed multiple times in the middle of a big project. I have uninstalled and re-installed twice, cleared my registry files, and posted here multiple times for help
I am about to give up on the lightroom and go with a basic program like Gimp. Why is this program so complicated? Its made for consumers but it seems like you need a phd to operate it. Ok, Im done ranting now. Has anyone else had this problem? If so how did you fix it?
    http://www.okclocksmith.com

Maggies Daddy, I have been using Photoshop Elements under XP then Win 7 for a few years, and am now looking at Lightroom as an improvement.  Not put off by your problem, just another thought if you give up on Lightroom.
Your problem may not be Lightroom itself, have been through nightmares before e.g. Windows 7 in early 2010 and had to revert to using Windows XP to get processing of hundreds of photos through, and wait for Win 7 to settle down.  Am now at the point of wanting more tools than are available in Elements for correction of problems with photos e.g. noise reduction in night shots of city lights (still trying to find time to edit approx 2100 photos of UK from September/ October 2010, so far I have looked at the raw photos and deleted some in the first pass).
There is light at the end of the tunnel.

  • When i try to import pics i get error lightroom shut down

i am trying to import photos and when I click import I get an error... lightroom 64 bit closing

FAQ: What information should I provide when posting, or What do you need to know to solve my issue?

  • Lightroom shutting down when I try to import.

When I open lightroom it loads just fine and I can edit pictures ect.. But when I try to import my photos it won't import them. It just stops working and I get the error message that says "this program is not responding" I have tried importing my photos a couple different ways, with no luck so far.
    I am using windows xp.
    Can anyone help me please???
    Thankyou! Katie

Thankyou, I actually ended up getting it fixed last night. After a massive search I thought that maybe my user Account on my computer was the problem. I opened a new user account and everything started to work fine. Thanks!

  • Lightroom 1.3 - Window XP crashes when shutting down LR 1.3

I am running Window XP SP2. Just installed LR 1.3 a week ago and every time I shut down LR 1.3 the system blue screened (CRASH). System rebooted itself immediately, therefore unable to see the error messages. Never had this problem with 1.2. Seem to be some file handing problem.
Anybody run into this problem with LR 1.3. Any idea what is the problem is.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Thanks Don,
I've checked the FAQ folder and searched for anything describing where to find the Prefrences file in windows Vista for Lightroom version 1.3.1.
This (the lines below) is as close as I came, and I don't have an AppData folder in Users/My User Name/AppsData
Rename the Lightroom Preferences.agprefs file (for example, to Lightroom Preferences .old) in the Users/[username]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Lightroom/Preferences folder.
I really need to get this problem fixed since I'm a Commercial Photographer always being pressed for product. Could anyone tell me where to locate the Preferences file in Windows Vista for Lightroom 1.3.1?
    Thanks a bunch everyone,
    Paul

  • Hi to all, I use Windows 7, 64Bit and Lightroom 5.7, Camera Raw 8.7, when I develop or export files (mostly Raw Fils from Nikon D810) after 10 to 20 pictures my computer shuts down or I get a bluescreen. Please tell me why.

Blue screen/Computer shuts down is almost always a hardware malfunction or a driver problem.
Make sure your video driver is up to date.
If it is, then the next suspect, in my mind, is overheating, make sure all of the fans in your CPU case are working properly.

  • Trying to sign in to lightroom 3 but program shuts down

any ideas why when I click on the Lightroom 3 icon on my desktop that it shuts down?

Do you mean that the program launches, at least partially, when the icon is pressed but closes down immediately afterwards?
Is this new behaviour after it's started okay in the past? Have you altered your computer or done any new installations just beforehand?
    What's your operating system?

  • I have Lightroom 4.2 which isn't opening in Windows 7. A message comes up saying it's already open in another application. I've tried shutting down and restarting; still not opening.

I have Lightroom 4.2 which isn't opening in Windows 7. A message comes up saying it's already open in another application; I can't see that it is. I've been using this successfully for 2 years now! I've tried shutting down and restarting; still not opening.

Found it and deleted!! Success! Thank you!

  • Lightroom CC shuts down before opening.

I just updated to Lightroom CC through the cloud app and now Lightroom will not start. The opening screen shows for about one second and it shuts down.

I have the same issue as jim (above) and tried logging Out and back In through Creative Cloud as you mentioned but still have the same issue. Tried restarting computer as well.
    I'm running a Mac with OS10.10.3
It only affects the new install of Lightroom CC 2015. I can still open Lightroom 5. Both apps I installed through the CC app
