Lightroom slideshow goes black

When I try to run Slideshow in Lightroom, the screen goes black and no images are shown. This happens no matter what type of files I am trying to show, i.e. RAW, TIFF, JPEG.

How many images for the slideshow. How long before selecting slideshow and hitting play is? G4 is real slow for LR, and it takes time for the Slideshow to render. Have you first rendered standard previews?
Also, just to be sure, check your monitor profile.

  • Slideshow goes black

I get a black screen and that annoying music when I try to do a slideshow from certain files. Have to click Apple>Option>Esc in order to get back to desktop. Any reasons anyone would know of why this happens.
Also, I loaded a CD full of jpegs and they are scattered all over the place, in different files, thumbs, etc. Could this be a possible conflict with the slideshow?
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Jim

If Mac is so easy, why does it take me, computer-literate on FCP in Mac, not able to find a particular photo
    Jim,
It's not that hard to decipher. The hierarchy starts with folders, potentially one for each year. Each year can contain up to 12 folders (that correspond to the 12 months of the year). A "month" folder can contain up to 31 folders (that correspond to the up-to 31 days in a month. Each of your image files has a creation date made up of day, month, and year components. A photo you took yesterday would end up in a folder named "28" in a folder named "09", in a folder named "2005".
If you imported that picture today, it would appear on a "roll" in your photo library with other photos from the same import session, and that roll would be dated "9/29/2005". If the picture had special significance, you'd do things like title the photo, or put it in an album (or multiple albums) having a particular theme, or associate key words with it.
I'm not certain how many more ways you'd want to organize things, but the flexibility to find any important photo in an instant is certainly there.

  • Run iPhoto slideshow on 2nd display without 1st display going black?

    Hi there,
I can't seem to find a clear answer on this one. I have just connected a 2nd display to my mac mini via the thunderbolt connection. When I put iPhoto 11 onto the 2nd display desktop and run a slideshow it plays on the 2nd screen but my 1st screen goes black, which isnt ideal as I want to be able to carry on working on my 1st screen.
Is iPhoto 11 able to run a slideshow on a 2nd display without 1st display going black? If not, is there a way around this by using other software?
I have the 2nd display set up in extended mode not mirror.
    I am running OSX 10.9.2.
    Many thanks,
    Andy.

Is iPhoto 11 able to run a slideshow on a 2nd display without 1st display going black?
    No.
There may well be, but it's not possible with Aperture either.
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie is on every Mac sold.
    Others, in order of price:
    PhotoPresenter  $29
    PhotoToMovie  $49.95
    PulpMotion  $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Pro X $299
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs. However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Pro X is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • I'm having problems creating a slideshow that I can burn to a DVD. I can see all of the pictures but it goes black at a certain point every time. I'm using iPhoto. I've tried copying it but the same thing happens. Ideas?

I've loaded about 100 photos into a slideshow that I would like to burn into a DVD to share with friends at a 50th birthday celebration. It keeps going black at a certain point but I can see the pictures in the cue. Any ideas on how to correct this and how to burn it to disc easily? Thanks! This is my first time trying to do this.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
how are you trying to export the slideshow?
Here's how I recommend one get a slideshnow to iDVD: export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

    Hello Dave,
Congratulations on your new Apple TV.  Also, thank you for the details about the issue you are experiencing when using AirPlay on your Apple TV.
I recommend reviewing the steps in the section titled "Troubleshooting performance issues with AirPlay or AirPlay Mirroring" in the following article (you can skip the steps that refer to a Mac since you are experiencing it on your iPad).  I suggest reviewing the full section, but this step specifically stands out to me for the issue you described:

  • My iPhoto goes black when I try to open a photo

I am running OS 10.7.5  and iPhoto 11 9.4.3  on an iMac. Yesterday I uploaded 620 photos into iPhoto. They worked perfectly and I was able to go through all of them after uploading. I did not close iPhoto last night but minimized it to the dock. Today when I tried to open a photo from the thumbnail, the screen went black. All my albums do the same thing. The first image clicked on comes up on the screen. Then it goes black and then nothing I do will bring up another image.
I restarted iPhoto but that did not help.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Display goes black

As of last night, my display on my Powerbook G4 is also not working properly. I unplugged my AC plug so I could take my laptop to another part of the house and the screen went blank. I thought it went to sleep so I toggled the track pad and some of the keys and nothing. I shut down and reboot several times to start my process of elimination. Here is what I found....The computer will not boot at all unless the wall plug is connected. My battery says it is fully charged though. When the computer is plugged into the wall, if I take the plug out of the computer, the screen goes black. Also if I plug in anything else in any of the other ports, like an external monitor, the screen goes black. When sometimes working with Photoshop CS2 or even Lightroom, the screen will go black and I have to reboot all over again.
Has this happened to anyone else?
    Thanks in advance!

Sorry for my M.I.A. Status. The Apple guys have my computer and I have an old iBook I am using. I took the computer back to the Apple Store and had their "Geniuses" look at it. I was able to use the computer with only the new AC adapter I purchased online at MacWizards. My old battery would not charge off of the new plug and neither would the new Apple battery I bought.
The Apple guys diagnosed it as a logic board issue. Since I am not under Apple Care any more, they have a deal where I pay $350 US dollars and they send it to Apple and have anything and everything that is wrong with my computer fixed. They said I will have it back in 3-7 days. That is the option I went for. It is cheaper than buying a new computer...which I will still have to do in about 5 months, but this will do for now!
    Hope this helps!

  • IPhoto going black when using the contract tool

my picture goes black when im trying to edit using the contrast tool!
    what the heck.. any advise?

Do the other tools work correctly in the edit mode? Try the following: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. If that doesn't help launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Edit screen won't show me my pictures to edit.  Full screen goes black.

My first mac. Trying to import pictures from my external drive (FAT32) I imported all my photos, all looks fine, however, when I try to edit one, It takes me to the edit screen with all the photos in the event on top, but it doesn't show the photo I'm trying to edit. I even tried to look at photos fullscreen, and I get the black screen with the top and bottom bars, but no photo on the screen, and after a second, it just all goes black. Interesting thing though, is that I can play a slide show. Has anyone ever had this issue, any help for this newb will be greatly appreciated.

It could be a permissions thing. Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the option to repair permission of the library.
    Post back with the results.

  • Is lightroom ever going to allow music to be uploaded?

Is Lightroom ever going to allow music to be uploaded?

You haven't stated whether you me as part of a slideshow or a web gallery. Nevertheless, it has been requested often enough that at some point I expect we will eventually see it. However, I can't say when or in what form.

  • I have no sound on a Lightroom slideshow.

I have no sound on a Lightroom slideshow. Sometimes it works then the next time it doesn't. Even using the same track. I am using MP3 files. whats going on?

I'm having a similar issue.  Using Lightroom ver. 5.7  In the slideshow module with the audio option checked, it allows me to select a mp3 file for background music - then says the file is an unsupported format.  Result: no sound in preview or playback.
So is there a fix or what?

  • Screen goes black when hooking up to TV via mini-DVI to video adapter...

    Hello,
Ever since I upgraded my PB12" to 10.5.x (now running 10.5.5, but this issue has been there since upgrading to 10.5.1), when I hook up the mini-DVI to video adapter (different adapter than for hooking up to an external display as the mini-DVI to video adapter has composite and sVideo out) to my TV, the PB screen goes black. It's set up to mirror the PB on the TV, and the PB continues to run, picture works on the TV, but I loose picture on the PB. Only way to get it back is to reboot the PB (with the mini-DVI to video adapter unplugged). So, basically, if I try and use the mini-DVI to video adapter, I loose picture on the PB. This never happened under 10.4.x — only since upgrading to 10.5.x.
Anyone have this issue? Know of a fix?
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

If you connect the MacBook using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo sound system if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI.
If you have the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody or Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the Mini DisplayPort rather than the Mini-DVI there is an adapter that can combine video and audio to HDMI.

  • Cinema display goes black upon resolution change in Windows XP

    Greetings
Earlier today, I updated my ATI X1600 Radeon to the latest Windows Catalyst drivers and to the Catalyst Control Center from ATI. Even since, whenever a Windows application (games, in this case) tries to change the resolution on my external Apple Cinema Display (designated as the main monitor in the ATI Catalyst Control Center, with the MacBook Pro display disabled), the display goes black, and the monitor power lamp starts to flash.
If I unplug the external Cinema Display from my MacBook Pro, my MacBook Pro display activates, and displays whatever it is I was trying to launch, so the problems is somehow related to the Cinema Display, even if the new drivers are causing it.
This happens regardless of my Catalyst Control Center settings, such as scaling the lower resolution to fit the screen, or keeping it the original size, with black borders around. The problem does not occur when I launch games using 1600 x 1024, the Cinema Display's native resolution.
Any ideas what might be causing it, and how to resolve it?

Update on my situation: when I tried to change the resolution manually in Windows, I encountered the same problem. Now, whenever I connect the Cinema Display to my MacBook Pro, the same thing occurs: the screen goes black, and the power lamp starts flashing, even though I've changed back to 1600 x 1024.
