Lightroom Slideshow:  output AVCHD files (Panasonic, Sony)?

Slideshow seems to have only two output formats:  MP4 and .pdf.  Panasonic flatscreens, for one, will not play these formats.  They require AVCHD files.  How can I get from Lightroom Slideshow to this format?

Thanks for your reply. What I meant was the workflow I have delveloped with the client to provide a quicktime file for their use on their end is what has been proven.
The whole reason I started this thread was hoping someone had a NEW WORKFLOW that would allow me to do this.
I have hundreds of clips I have produced for this client that utilze the Animation codec at 100% at a small fraction of the size. In fact I have one clip that is 46 minutes in duration 1920 X 1080 60 FPS using QT Animation codec at 100% and the file is 40 GB. The difference being the source files which were shot with a different camera in DVCPRO HD format.
So if what you're saying is I should expect an 8 minute clip to be 80 GB I'm a bit lost.
Anyway thanks for your reply hopefully someone has some helpful advise. I'm not here to argue with anyone or to be proven wrong, I'm just looking for help.
I'll continue to seach for other options. Thanks to all who have responded.

Does the new FCP 7.0 directly imports AVCHD files from sony cam?
Does it need any conversion? If yes, how is the conversion time, and does the conversion degrades image quality?
    Thanks in advance.

Which sony camera? there are a lot.
Yes, it needs to convert. AVCHD isn't a format that most editing systems deal with natively. You will be converting it to ProRes. The conversion time is dependent on too many factors to give a precise number. Based on computer used, processors, RAM, how much footage, where it will be stored...all of that. The conversion doesn't degrade the image.

  • MTS (AVCHD) files from Sony HDRAX2000 produce HUGE Quicktime files

    Hi,
I am editing some clips for a Client in Premiere CS5. They provided me with clips from the camera they used (Sony HDRAX2000). The files are MTS (AVCHD). I am able to edit these files in Premiere CS5 (& CS4) as well as After Effects CS5 (& CS4). However when I output the result to Quicktime using the same resolution and settings as the original, the file size is outrageous. For example a 2 minute Quicktime with a resolution of 583 X 329 ends up being 1.8 GB. If I output the file at the same settings as the clip (1920 x 1080) the 2 minute clip is nearly 20 GB!!!
I attempted to convert the source files to Quicktime using the Adobe Media Encoder (I tried with both CS5 and CS4 versions).
The original 8 minute MTS file that is 1.3 GB results in a Quicktime file OVER 80 GB!!!! (Both files are the same exact resolution (1920 x 1080) same bit depth (24 bit) same frame rate 29.97. I've tried several CODECS with no substantial difference. Does anyone have any experience with a workflow that would allow the final output to be of a reasonable and manageable size? The goal is to provide the highest quality Quicktime file I can at 583 x 329 and this file will ultimately be used in a web project (Flash) were file size is obviously critical.
I did also try a couple of "Video converters" available on the web. They can convert the files with excellent file size results but the quality is unusable (looks obviously compressed).
I do have a fair amount of experience providing these types of outputs/files for similar projects and I've never run into such a problem. Any guidance would be appreciated.

    Viel Erfolg beim Ausprobieren

  • AP3 does not recognise movie files from Sony HD camcorder

I tried to import footage from a new Sony HDD camcorder, Aperture uploaded the stills ok but couldn't upload the movies with an error message saying 'Unknow File Format'.
However iPhoto uploaded the movies no problem. The file format is .MPG
If anyone can offer any advice on what I need to change to upload MPG format that would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Are you sure the format is .MPG -- Sony HD camcorders are typically outputting AVCHD files, which Aperture does not read? Nevertheless, not sure if .MPG is supported either.
f you open Aperture Help and search on Video, you find the following:
File Formats You Can Import into the Library
Aperture supports most image, audio, and video file formats captured by digital cameras. An example of the file types and formats that can be imported into your Aperture library are:
    • GIF
    • JPEG
    • JPEG2000
    • PNG
    • PSD (8- and 16-bit)
    • TIFF (8- and 16-bit)
    • BMP
    • DNG
    • RAW files from a variety of supported digital cameras
    • AIF
    • WAV
    • MOV

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements Organizer Stops Working due to Sony AVCHD files

Hello I installed Adobe Photoshop elements and have been having trouble with it crashing.
To solve this problem I deleted my Catalog and added a Catalog with only one folder.
This folder has photos, in JPEG and Sony .ARW format as well as AVCHD files.
I found that by removiing the AVCHD files from the catalog the SW would no longer crash.
This really is not a practical solution since my PC has many folders with many AVC files.
I am trying to see if there is a SW patch or another way to address this issue.
    Thanks,

It might work but this is not a practical solution.
I have many picture folders on my pc and several of these have AVC files.
My intention was to use Photo Shop Essentials to edit my pictures. Unfortunately the "Organizer" app crashes when trying to work with my Catalog.
I have narrowed it down to only happening when there are AVC files in my folders. I have seen others have this issue and I found the issue by what they recommended.
Sadly if I am unable to get this to work with my current folders I will have to dump Essentials for another application.

  • Importing video from Sony HDR-CX410 FCP 6.0.6 will not recognise AVCHD files. what is the solution?

First I have to admit I'm not technical in any way so I'm easily confused so please forgive me if my question sounds unprofessional.
The computer is a Mac desk top tower with Lion OS x 2x2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon with an  internal hard drive plus a number of remote hard drives.
I'm using Final cut pro 6.0.6 to edit video.
The question is, up until now I've been using material shot on mini DV tapes, then digitised into the computer via the camera. As this format is getting long in the tooth I decided to get one of the latest DVCAM cameras, I went for the Sony HDR-CX410.
It was not until I had purchased the camera & shot a few test seq. & then tried to down load into the computer that I found out that Final cut does not recognise the AVCHD files on the SD card.I've tried importing from the camera as well as a card reader with no result.
I've looked at a number of sites including Apple support community where it looks like this is a major issue for many people but I can't find anyone who is using the same camera. I wondered if this issue is something you have covered in the magazine, if so please let me know which copy, if not can you help in any way. It appears that Final cut proX may be able to translate the AVCHD files but I'm not sure. Am I right in thinking that if I do upgrade to FCPX I will still have to convert the files, if so would you recommend a suitable software program.  Is there any reason why Apple make it so difficult to edit this AVCHD format when all the latest cameras are using it, perhaps its time to change back to a PC?

    Eric,
FCP 6.0.2 (compared to previous version) comes with the latest improvement and support for AVCHD.
    However, here is a suggestion:
In Log&Transfer (top frame) on the right of *search field* there are three buttons, click on the one showing a little arrow-down and a sort of little star. Choose preferences then in the *transcode to* section click on those two tiny arrows pointing one up and the other down and choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Can you now transfer? (Add selection to queue)
Once again 6.0.2 might provide better support for your camera.
Use the search tool for more info.
    G.
PS. Please note that some people have had problems with 6.0.2 so get us much info as you can before updating.

  • Im running lightroom 4 and just purchased the Sony A7 and using its sd card. when I   tried to load the photos, I got a message "the files are not recognized by the raw format support in lightroom"

Tried loading my raw files shot w my new Sony a7 and its sd card into lightroom4. Got a message: "The files are not recognized by the raw format in lightroom"
Does Lightroom 4 not work with the Sony A7?
    Thanks,

Lightroom 4 cannot read the RAW photos from a Sony A7
You would have to download and install the FREE Adobe DNG Converter version 8.5 and then convert your RAW to DNG, and then import the DNGs into Lightroom 4
You could also purchase Lightroom 5.5, which will have the capability to read the RAWs directly.

  • Does this support AVCHD files straight from the camera (Panasonic)??

Does the new final cut pro X support AVCHD files from the camera?  I record with a Panasonic AG-HMC40.
    Thank you

FCPX doesn't import AVCHD files from my Panasonic GH-2, even though importing works perfectly into iMovie.  So just because camera X imports natively into iMovie, it isn't certain it will import natively into FCPX.
iMovie archives will always import because the AVCHD has already been converted to ProRes on import.
In FCPX the AVCHD files from say a GH-2 can be edited natively if you don't want to re-render into ProRes, but to date I can't import them to test this.
    Chris.

  • No audio track with AVCHD files (shot on Panasonic HMC-70)

I've read quite a few treads and cannot figure this out.  I have a standalone version of Premiere CC 7.0.0 (342) installed in my computer lab at school.
I tested the software with a creative cloud trial and AVCHD files worked fine.
This version does not show audio tracks in files dragged in from Media Browser (as suggested here: Audio and Video glitches | AVCHD footage)
It also will not import/transcode audio with Prelude or Media Encoder.  Video works fine.
I have FCPX and Compressor installed.  Both playback/transcode the file with no issue.  Is there a solution for Premiere/Prelude/Encoder?

I tried renaming the folders, like all of them.
    Not working.
The file path looks like this: Card:private/AVCHD (show package contents)/BDMV (show package contents)/STREAM/00000.MTS
I would think there would be a native format in Premiere for popular Panasonic cameras.

  • I seem to have lost Sony AVCHD files while importing them into iPhoto. The 50p files were not visible in the Import screen. iPhoto 9.6.1.

    System: Yosemite 10.10.2
    Iphoto: 9.6.1
iPhoto 9.6.1 does not seem to recognize 50p AVCHD files from my Sony WS350x camera, so they are not imported, but are deleted from camera when the question is asked in the importscreen !!!
Why is that ? I am not happy....
Workaround: Should I import the media files with Sony's Playmemories sw first ?
    Herman

The problem with AVCHD is that there are a wealth of codecs and very little standardisation further, these aren't files, but clusters of interlinked files that make up the data stream.
    So read this
Using AVCHD video with iPhoto '11 - Apple Support
Bear in mind that not all Codecs are supported.
As an FYI: A note on AVCHD: This format was developed for people who are shooting to edit the material afterwards. If you're shooting to edit, then iMovie or Final Cut are the correct home for this material. If you're not shooting to edit consider using one of the other video formats on your Camera.

  • About to buy Panasonic HDC-SD9: Advice on handling large AVCHD files

I'm getting married soon and want to buy a Hi-Def camcorder to use during the wedding ceremony and honeymoon. I like to Panasonic HDC-SD9 but have some basic questions. Please accept my ignorance!
    a) I understand that the HDC-SD9 records in AVCHD, which on conversion to AIC in IMovies 8 greatly increases the file size. The harddrive on my Macbook is only 120GB and a converted one-hour AVCHD video is likely to make a serious dent into this. What is the best way to handle this?
    b) Should I use the disk utility to make a copy of the SD card and delete the files from the SD card? How do I ressurect this when I need to use the raw footage? Can I play directly from the Disk Copy?
    c) Should I convert the large AIC file into another form to save it on my harddrive? What is the best format to reduce file size? How do I do this?
    d) Ideally, we want to give our wedding guests a copy of the wedding footage on a standard def DVD. Can we use IDVD to make a DVD from the AIC file? How much footage can be stored on a normal DVD?
    e) What programmes can be used to play the AVCHD file? Can I play it back on Quicktime 7.5.5?
    Many thanks

If you go the AVCHD route; My suggestion to most of the questions is to buy an external hard drive (format to Mac OS Extended) and load your footage to that and keep the drive. Then guard it with your life.
IMO: Tape is still an option that has advantages. The tape is a backup and they are inexpensive.
Most NLEs work with the formats and file sizes are smallish. AVCHD can bloat to nearly 50 gig an hour, DV, no more than 13.5 gig.

  • Sony sr-11 import troubles of avchd files

    Hi there,
i tried to import avchd files from the sony sr-11.
At the beginning everthing looks fine, fcp recognizes the cam and the log and transfer dialog appears. I can select the files but when i open them in the browser they are corrupt, i see only the upper lets say 10%, the rest is grey.
I was wondering if u have to set some special setting for the projekt?
Can somebody tell me if there are some setting requirements to make the import of avchd files work properly?
    thanks a lot!

thank you for the quick response, i know imovie handles it.
I would like to stay in fcp pro to handle all my movies because:
    a) it should work, and i would like to understand where the problem is
    b) i don't want to jump around between the applications. FCS2 is perfect for all the rest...
