Lightroom slow to upload raw files

Since i have upgraded to Snow Leopard, Lighrtoom is acting very slow in uploading photos (like hours).  Once they are up, it will take a minute or two to switch over to the Develop module and be bale to work on them.  Any ideas on how to fix?  Is the issue SL or is it something else?

My own experience suggests it's not SL, but that's not a big help to you! How are you importing the files? Any changes in cables, cards?
I'd see if you can copy your files to the desktop in good speed, then run import.

I can not import in Lightroom 4.4 any RAW-file from my D600.  Lightroom gives no picture.

    How long have you waited?
When I connect my D600 via USB and import in Lr it takes a long time before the image thumbnails are displayed in the Import Dialog.
I know that using a card reader would probably be much faster (you gotta try that!).
In the meantime I just do something else for 5-7 min (read e-mail, get a cup of coffee) and thereafter the thumbnails are displayed and import is straightforward.
And I do have a powerful and fast system.
So, somehow Lr and the D600 are slow to begin "talking" to each other.

  • Lightroom refuses to import RAW files.

    Hello,
I have Lightroom version 1.4.1 (just downloaded the update), and cannot upload RAW files from my Canon 20D or 5D. What happens is that Lightroom will either:
    (1) Upload just 12-15 files, then freeze up. The light on my camera stops glowing red and it says "busy" on the camera LCD display. After waiting 30 minutes I get the spinning rainbow ball on the screen. When I try a "Force Quit" Lightroom does not respond at all.
    -or-
    (2) Nothing at all happens! No images are uploaded, Lightroom freezes up and the camera does nothing.
My setup is an Intel PowerMac with 8 gigs of memory, 3 1TB drives, and an Nvidia GFX 8800 graphics card. I am using OSX 10.5.4.
I tried deleting the plist file at least 3-4 times, tried different cards in either of the cameras, and I always get the same results.
    Help!

    David
Finally I found someone with the same problem I've been experiencing in the last 3 months.
This problem actually started after on LR 1.4.1 but
after I upgraded to LR 2.0, it now freezes half way on import just like you described, it actually take the OS hostage and not even force quit works, I have to force the system to shut down by pressing the power button.
Then I tried to see if I could import with Bridge and I ran into the same problem and had to take the same action.
I have switched cards, card readers and USB ports (used the front and back ports) but nothing seem to work.
But when I use Image Capture to import raw files, it works fine, no problems there.
I also upgraded the PS3/Bridge Camera Raw to the most recent version to be compatible with the LR 2.0 version.
I also have the 20D and 5D but I use card readers instead of plugging the camera directly into the computer.
It seems the problem is the way Leopard reads XMP data, that's something I found on a forum somewhere and it looks like Apple has not addressed this issue yet.
    I'm running Leopard on a 2.8 Gig / 8 core and 4GIGs of ram.
For now, my solution to this problem is to import raw files from the card reader using Image Capture and down load them into my LR library.
    That's my 2 cents

  • Aperture quits, after I uploaded Raw files, the computer shut down during

I am using Aperture 1.5.6. 2j2.. I put in a flash drive in my lexar unit to upload raw files to a new project, I saw the thumbnails images were there, filled in all the information clicked upload.. left the room, came back and the computer was off.. Not sure why.. turned the computer back on and aperture opened, when clicking on the interrupted project, a window opens at the top of the screen for a second and then aperture shuts down, I did a png capture after several attempts to read and the message reads "project untitled 3 is in an inconsistent state, please wait while the inconsistencies are resolved". I can't delete the project because aperture shuts down as soon as I click on the project. What can I do to delete the project? also I tried to upload the images again and it wont upload and get this message, master did not upload, it keeps spinning, I tried another card from the same shoot and the same thing.. Is this a Aperture problem, or could the cards be corrupt from the camera? This was a paid shoot and I have another paid shoot, Tomorrow which I'm canceling until I find the problem.. Also how can I get my raw files off the flash drive? Help my photographer Friends.. I'm going to see if I can upload a card, with images that I know worked..
Oh one more this my Aperture library in on an external hard drive, I have had no problem so far,, until now, that is.

update.. I opened Aperture on my mac book pro, they uploaded fine, so I guess in the external Hard drive. But still my question remains.. What can I do?

  • Do I have to buy a new version of Photoshop Elements (have Elements 10) just to upload RAW files from my new Olympus E-M10?

I have Photoshop Elements 10.  It appears that I need a plugin to upload RAW files and the plugin necessary for my new Olympus E-M10 is not compatible with version 10.  Am I getting this right?  Do I have to buy a new version of Photoshop Elements just to upload RAW files from my new Olympus E-M10?  Otherwise, what I have is all that I need.

Which operating system are you using?
If your using mac os x 10.6 (snow leopard) or windows xp or vista, then the below solution will not work and you shouldn't try to install the dng converter 8.5
You could use the free Adobe DNG Converter to convert your files to dng copies which should then open in pse 10.

  • Uploading RAW files to iphoto 08

    Hello,
I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ18. I am trying to upload RAW files but they are just blank in iphoto, they will not upload, I get a message telling me they are not recognised. I have the latest version of iphoto, I do not understand, I didn't get any software with my camera that will help either.
I am desperate to solve this!! HELP ME!
    thanks
    Sam

    Sam
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Sorry for your desperation but the RAW format for the FZ18 is simply not supported.
Every camera has - and that's every camera, not every brand, but every single model - has a different RAW format. I had an FZ 8 for instance and that wasn't supported either.
The FZ 8 came with a programme called Silkypix. I'm sure that there is something on the disk the came with the camera that will decode those RAWS.

Latest version of Lightroom will not download RAW files from my D750. How does one get around this? Bought Lightroom for it's ability to manage RAW files and now very disappointed.

Here is the contents of a batch file which will convert whatever raws you drop on it:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe DNG Converter" -cr7.1 -dng1.4 -p0 %*
Once you download the latest converter (release candidate from adobe labs, if necessary), and save the appropriate contents of the batch file (change path to match your system, and parameters to match your druthers, if applicable), the procedure is:
    1. Drop raw files on bat file.
    2. Import as usual (the DNGs).
Not too bad once you're set up (if DNG converter supports your raws).
    Documentation:
    http://wwwimages.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/products/photoshop/pdfs/dng_commandline.pd f
Note: on Mac, you may need to use "$@" (with the double-quotes) instead of %* (which is dos batch syntax), and you will need to use the full path to the converter executable file, e.g.
    “/Applications/Adobe DNG Converter.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe DNG Converter”
If too much, just use the GUI instead of the bat file.

  • Cannot upload raw files to lightroom 2.0 from my Canon Q10

Lightroom says the CR2 files are corrupt - but I am quite sure they are not because: a) I can view them on the camera and, b) Picasa downloaded them just fine. I originaly tried downloading to LR directly from the camera. When that failed, I downloaded the CR2 files to the hard drive and then tried importing them into LR2. Same error message - the files are corrupted.
Any and all help would be appreciated.
I am going to contact Canon as well.
    Thanks
    Peter

    Peter,
I'm having trouble identifying the "Canon Q10"... does it have an alternate model designator in the US, as many Canons do?  Is it a relatively new release camera?  Have you previously been able to upload RAW photos taken by this particular model camera into Lightroom 2?
If not, the issue most likely is that Lightroom and Adobe's Camera Raw 5.2 don't support this camera yet.  A future release likely will.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
If that's your problem, the interim solution is to use Canon software to download the RAW photo and convert it to TIF, and import the TIF to Lightroom.  Or shoot RAW+Jpeg, and import the Jpeg to Lightroom and await proper RAW support.  Sorry.

  • Lightroom 4 RC2 won't upload raw files direct from Canon 5d mkiii camera

I can upload to DPP and then transfer the files into Lightroom but when I try and upload directly Lightroom just says, "Files not Uploaded not recognised" and I get an option to save or cancel. Why?, with LR3 raw files from my old camera uploaded just fine, whats going on.

You have a new camera, it is not yet supported in ACR or Lightroom. Most likely it will be supported in the LR4.1 proper, but not yet.
I assume your old camera is a 5DII, that is supported as its an older model.
If you want to use LR4.1RCx and your Canon 5DIII, you will need to convert from CR2 to DNG with the Adobe DNG Converter
    link to the download
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html and scroll down a screen or so to find the links for MAC or PC depending on your software.
This will work til Lightroom natively imports Canon 5DIII RAW images

  • How to stop Lightroom from auto-adjusting RAW files

Is there a way to stop Lightroom from automatically "fixing" my RAW files? When I first load them in they look perfect (like they do on the back of my camera), but then LR auto-adjusts them to make them dull and desaturated and not at all contrasty. Is there a way that I can set LR to not do anything to the files and let me decide what I want the original to look like?

I totally understand where II is coming from. I too find it bothersome that in some images, the pre-processed preview is a more pleasing image than the unprocessed RAW. At the same time, it is the unprocessed nature of the RAW image that is the whole attraction and point to shooting RAW. An obvious workaround (if one is willing of course) is to shoot RAW+JPEG so as to either have the JPEG as a "target" reference or final image when suitable. And that is an option I used to employ until I got tired of dealing with the issues of essentially doubling the number of images I was working with.
I do disagree with II's thought that the preview showing up is slowing down any processing of the RAW image. It would seem to me that the whole reason the preview is showing up is that it is a prerendered aspect of the file that pops up while the actual preview rendering is taking place. While I don't claim to have technical knowledge as to how this all works, I would think that LR is simply showing the initial rendering of what the RAW file is telling LR it looks like until LR can actually make it's OWN interpretation. Either way, the process is fast enough that it isn't a huge issue to me on my system. In fact, those images where I see a vast difference between the inital preview image and the LR rendered resolve no slower than the rest.
It is interesting to know that there are applications/utilities out there that will extract that inital preview though. I thionk it would be very cool if LR made use of such a capability more directly as an option.
Anyway, while the frequency of my use of LR so far pales in comparison to that of PS and Bridge, so far I can say that such discrepency between nice looking inital preview and less than so RAW is far less common than it is working with PS and Bridge CS2.

  • Is there any way to get lightroom 4 to recognise raw files from my 7d Mark 2?

I have been searching on here for a few days now, but can't seem to get my head around the answers I got a new 7D mark 2 a few weeks ago.  When I first came to download my pictures from the card I was only marginally surprised they were unreadable - I'd forgotten to format the memory card to the camera.  No big deal, I thought, merrily deleting the photos Lightroom couldn't read and formatting the card.  But now that I have formatted the card, I am kindof upset that Lightroom still cannot read the files at all.  I have downloaded the DNG converter and updated all my software, but if the files are not being read at all, how am I supposed to convert them?
What am I supposed to do? I can see the photos on the camera itself - I usually shoot in Raw and JPEG to cover myself, but this time Lightroom isn't reading either format.  If I shoot purely in JPEG I can download them without problem, but together (jpeg and raw) I can't see either.
Tech wise I have a hp laptop, 4GB RAM, 2tb hd (separate), Windows 7 64-bit os, Lightroom 4 and Photoshop Elements 12.
    Help me please?
    Thanks

I have downloaded the DNG converter and updated all my software, but if the files are not being read at all, how am I supposed to convert them?
You use the DNG converter (version 8.7 or later) to convert the RAW to DNG. This is a separate step, outside of Lightroom, before you import. Then th DNGs will be import-able into Lightroom 4.
I usually shoot in Raw and JPEG to cover myself, but this time Lightroom isn't reading either format.
If your card has both JPG and RAW, Lightroom isn't reading the JPGs? Could you give us the error message or describe what is happening? Also make sure that the option to treat JPG next to RAW as separate photos is checked. Lightroom Help | Set import preferences
