Lightroom - sRGB on Web

Yes, another color mismatch question.
I work on LR 2.3 on Windows. My understanding is that it operates in the Prophoto colorspace. When I export to sRGB and view them in the Windows Jpeg viewer, the skin tones turn too red. Uploads to photosharing sites like Smugmug yield the same results.
Oddly, if I open the LR file in Photoshop, using the sRGB colorspace, the resulting output looks pretty much the same as the original LR image.
I understand colorspace issues, but I'm a bit frustrated that I cannot get my fleshtones to come out right on the Web.
I'm using Windows, Firefox, a calibrated monitor, etc.
What can I do to make things right?

Please note that most browsers do NOT support ICC profiles in the JPG file.
Firefox can support it if you enable it.
IE does not support it and Seamonkey 1.x also does not support profiles in images which leads to color differences.
This link here will show you if you browser supports ICC profies or not

  • How do you embed a Lightroom 3 Slideshowpro web gallery into webpage using Dreamweaver CS5?

I watched the YouTube video by Rafael "RC" Concepcion for incorporating Lightroom into Dreamweaver CS4 but I'm using Dreamweaver CS5 and his method did not work on my Mac system.  Does anyone have a step-by-step way or video?

One way to do it is put each gallery in its own subdirectory of your main page (you can use multiple sub galleries) and then have the main page in the root that links to the index.html files in each subdirectory. If your main page is not in the root you have to add the appropriate structure in the return link in the lightroom created gallery "Web or Mail Link" setting.
In the main page the link to my NATURE page would be   ../nature/index.html
Then in the Lightroom created NATURE page you can use the "Contact Info" or "Identity Plate" (This can be graphical as shown on my page)     "Web or Mail Link" setting to return to the main page using      ../index.html

  • Lightroom 5 - Building Web Gallery hangs and  then fails (worked versions 3, 4 no problems)

The key and only reason I own and use Lightroom is to create and manage my 50,000+ family photos spanning through 3 centuries.  (1800s, 1900s, 2000s)
    www.L-Y-N-C-H.com
With Lightroom 5 the web galleries I have previously created and uploaded and as well the customer user presets I have created OR the standard templates are now ALL hanging and failing during the "Upload Web Photo Gallary after exporting all the images, etc.
The app does report the folders and files exist on the server so it must be logging in succesfully and parsing files and directories etc?
It then goes off and is looping around "Building Web Photo Gallery" and after about 5 plus minutes it fails with a " an error occured sending the file:  connection to the server failed"
Which is probably just because it is broken and then times out because of failure.
I have checked, triple checked, changed passwords and also later uploaded FTP files and etc and actually am now having to EXPORT the whole gallery locally via LR5 and then FTP by hand the whole thing to the website.
defeats the whole reason i have been buying this product?
EVERYTHING works great except Lightroom 5 is now broken for this task to me.  All I did was send money to upgrade and install product and upgrade libraries.......so i can't go back right?

March 2014: After 31 years of emailing and internet use, our/my entire email system has recently been bombarded by huge volumes of spam, hackers, and robo-mailer daemons so I am taking drastic actions to reduce the 1,000s of unwanted emails we/I get everyday. HostGator (my ISP for email and L-Y-N-C-H.com) SpamBlocker and now BoxTrapper are fully implemented.
    This process follows 2 paths:
    1) Wait and allow me additional time on your first use for me to see your email and then add your ISP/URL and email to my accepted senders list.  (whitelist)
    2) Reply to the link below to verify you are not a robomailer or spambot, etc.

  • Does LR automatically convert to sRGB for web gallery?

Searched and searched, but can't find this anywhere! I have AdobeRGB PSDs and camera RAW files, that I develop in LR and then export for web. Does LR default to a conversion to sRGB? I can't find a tick-box for this. All web images seem to get tagged sRGB, but I'm not sure whether this is a genuine colour space conversion, or merely a re-tagging.
Is this stated anywhere, or are we all working on assumptions? Thanks as always for any help.

You select the color space in the Export settings to HDD, etc...under File Settings you have Image Format and Color Space to select.
If you are referring to the Publish settings for Facebook/Flickr, then Lr does default to sRGB for web.
If you are referring to the Web Gallery setup in Lr, Lr defaults to sRGB.

  • Embed Lightroom gallery in web page

    Hello all,
Here for help with embedding a Lightroom created gallery into
a web page in Dreamweaver. My test page is at
    http://www.grayareaphotography.com/Copy%20of%20Home%20Page.htm
(dont mind the mess this is just a testing page) scroll to the
bottom and you'll see the LR gallery embedded. At the top are links
to all my other LR galleries, they open in separate pages (perhaps
the way LR would perfer it to be done).
On to the question. I found discussion on how to do this at
    http://www.bluefire.tv/blog/flashgalleries/using_flashvars.html
using flashvars, and I have been able to get the shell of the LR
gallery to load, but I can find the code, or mistake or oversight,
that will load the actual pictures. I've emailed BlueFire, no reply
yet. So thought I would ask here too.
All my LR galleries, their folders and files reside under my
    root, grayareaphotography/galleryName.xxx.
Here is my code for embedding LR galleries thus far. Anyone
done this? anyone know or see something I am missing?

  • Is Lightroom available as web only app as well? Or do you need a desktop version?

Considering to throw out the laptop and move to a chromebook, want to keep using Lightroom, so is it possible to run it as a web only app? Or do you need some form of local copy somewhere?
    Thanks!

Your second possibility is the answer. There isn't a version of Lightroom for the Chromebook. There isn't even a mobile version for it that will run with a regular Lightroom installation on another computer.

  • Lightroom not uploading web gallery to Business Catalyst

I generated a photo gallery in Lightroom to use on my Business Catalyst hosted site, but when I go to upload the gallery I get an "unknown error has occurred". After searching this on Google, it appears that this is a rather common problem that has been going on for some time. Any idea why it happens? And more importantly, is there a way to fix it?
    Thanks!

  • Lightroom Crashing on Web Gallery Uploads

Is anyone else experiencing LR crashes while trying to upload web galleries? The program completely shuts down and has to be restarted. I've removed the library.plist file and still have issues. Any suggestions? Sometimes the galleries will make it up before the crash but only about 20% of the time. All of this began after the LR 1.1 update.

In my case, web gallery albums to which people have tried to upload pics show in parens double the number I've uploaded via iPhoto, but none of their photos show up. I, and my friends have conducted many tests now and it seems no photos larger than 380K will upload from the web. No error messages, the little green arrow appears as if everything worked fine, but no pics show up.
I've provided feedback and emailed support and tried phone support - no glory - ah well, maybe an update is in the works - would really like to hype that feature.

  • Lightroom 1.3 Web Module - Appearance Panel Partially Hidden

When I go to the Web module, the right margin of the Appearance panel is partially hidden such that I can't access all of the controls....it's driving me nuts. PS - running on a 17" Macbook Pro with a 30" external monitor, OSX 10.5, LR 1.3.1

Try restarting LR. Try cycling between Fullscreen modes with 'f'.
Try Shift-tab a couple times to hide and show the panels to see if this affects the panel. Are you attempting to use, using two monitors?
Obviously I grasping at straws here, but this ain't usual!

You have to report more about what symptoms the crash shows: blue screen, reboot, LR crashes, what does Windows say?
From your description you could have a computer with a hardware problem. Exporting is computationally intensive and taxes the hardware. I can export hundreds of pictures with no problem...
Get a tool like hwmonitor from cpuid.com and monitor your temperatures. And post more detailled symptoms.

  • Lightroom web galery on Ipad

I made a Lightroom (2.7) web galery for my website and i love the way it looks and works.
But now i found out that it isn't showing on an Ipad/ Iphone because Apple doesn't support it.
Is there any way it will work? Or is there an other solution with the same result?
I look forward to your advice!

If you used one of LR's Flash Templates to create the gallery, you'll likely see flying blue pigs before you'll see it work on an iPhone or iPad. Flash is not in Apple's vocabulary.
You could try the equivalent LR HTML template and probably view it on an iPhone or iPadusing the Safari browser on the device, but it won't take advantage of the iOS gestures.

  • PS Save For Web -- what are optimum GIF settings?

    Hi,
I am making very simple buttons for a web page navigation bar as follows:
Create new file in sRGB with proper dimensions for my navigation area.
Fill with web page background color, #c4c0b4.
Use Type Tool to create text in gray #666666.  (After creating these buttons, I change the text color to white for hover buttons.)
Use Guides and Slice Tool to define shape of each button.
Save For Web to create folder with all the buttons.
In the Save For Web dialog I have tried several of the GIF presets -- 128, 64, 32, with dithering and without dithering.  They all look good, but I'm not sure which will give me that absolute highest quality, sharpest looking characters.
    QUESTIONS:
    1) Which of the GIF presets should I use for the best text appearance?  I have read the Help file and it would seem that I do not need dithering since I am using two solid colors -- #c4c0b4 and either #666666 or white.  To dither or not to dither, that is the question!
    2) Do I need more than 32 colors?
    3) In Save For Web, when I click Save and the Save Optimized As dialog opens, should I use the Default Settings under Settings, or would a custom setting be preferable?
    4) Am I correct that I should NOT apply any sharpening to text-only files such as this?
As always, thanks to the pros here for any advice on this.
    John

    Hi Jesse,
I tried using text links and setting the size in pixels, but the sizing changed depending on the browser settings.  Sizing in pixels is better than in points or generic sizes, but still subject to changes.  I'm on a PC and my designer-friend who is helping me with this is on a Mac.  We've done some tests and anything other than making the links with images is not consistent from browser to browser, Mac to PC.  We want to guarantee that all the text on the page will not change -- size, spacing, leading, etc.  My clients are graphic designers and art directors who will notice this kind of thing.
As for the client changing, adding or subtracting links... well, I'm the client and I'm doing the site myself, so that's not going to be an issue.  In addition, as you see, the site is super-simple so there aren't likely to be a whole lot of major changes.  That's not to say it could not happen, but saving all my Photoshop work files is not a problem.
Please understand, I am not arguing with you or Nancy.  If I were doing a complicated corporate or business site, I would use text links for all the reasons you lay out... no question about that.
Thank you for the tips on saving GIFs.  I'm using Photoshop CS4 and Save For Web.  I think I now understand what settings to use.  I am using GIFs only for the text.  All of the images will be JPGs, but those are all generated automatically by Lightroom and a web gallery plug-in called SlideShowPro which not only generates the images but assembles the galleries and does all the Flash stuff.  All I do is embed the Flash galleries into my pages.  For a non-web person like me, that's nothing short of a miracle.
Your comments were not long-winded.  In fact, I'm so eager to learn more about this stuff that I really appreciate your detailed explanations.  Thanks for the comment about my work -- I'm excited about this new website which hopefully will make it look better than ever!
    Best,
    John

  • Lightroom Export Color Shift

Exported JPEGs from Lightroom have a significant color shift from how they appear inside LR and PS3, which is a distinct magenta shift and oversaturation.
I have read a number of related posts here and elsewhere that explain the importance of setting up color management correctly in Windows, LR and PS3. I have done my best to follow all this advice and still cannot export usable JPEGs from Lightroom. I am using a Spyder 3 and have carefully profiled my Dell 2408WFP monitor. I am processing RAW images from a Canon 30D into sRGB JPEGs for web viewing, and have set up LR to export sRGB while PS3 is set to the sRGB working space.
I have also read that Internet Explorer and other color-unmanaged applications will display images differently. I understand this, but then it seems to me that every image I view inside Windows Picture Viewer or Internet Explorer on this computer would have the same oversaturation and magenta shift that my Lightroom exports do, but this is not the case. Also, my Lightroom-exported JPEGs have an equivalent magenta-tinted and oversaturated appearance on other computers I use, not just my image-editing computer.
I have set up a web page with example images, screen grabs and system technical information, located here: http://www.dougvetter.com/lightroom
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    >What can I do to get predictable color output that looks good outside a color managed environment? All the web content I look at on this exact same system looks just fine in my browser.
The only thing you can do is to calibrate your screen and export to sRGB jpegs.
On average the images will look the same, however very few will look identical simply because there is a lot of variation among screens. The sRGB standard gives you the biggest probability of getting it right. Unfortunately with the current upsurge in people buying laptops, which have in general a far smaller gamut than sRGB (the purple blue problem is caused by bad laptop screens), sRGB is starting to deviate from the average because the average is shifting. At the same time desktop LCDs are giving greater and greater gamut as your DELL display shows. sRGB was designed to represent an average CRT screen. So the crappy quality of laptop LCDs and the refusal of MS to finally live up to their promise of color management in IE is really hurting our chances of getting the right color in front of people.
What we really need is omnipresent color management and some awareness of computers of their monitor's profiles without having to calibrate, similar to printing profiles being delivered by printer manufacturers. They might not be perfect, but they will be good enough. Lacking that, we can really only try to calibrate our screens and use sRGB for web images.
