Lightroom Syncing Challenges

Hi,
I need to overcome 3 inter-related challenges in my current Adobe Lightroom project.
Here is the situation:
1) I have got an online database which stores individual image records. I've written a Lightroom export plugin for my clients to upload their images to our server and adding records to my online database. Ideally, for each image they have uploaded, I would like to add a database id reference to their images in Lightroom. My first question is : What would be the best approach to write the database reference to an image in Lightroom? EXIF? Metadata? Keywords?
2) Once I've got the images from my clients, I take those images and I create a separate Lightroom catalog and import those images into that catalog on my computer. I then modify those images for my clients and what I want to do next is to export those changes that I have made and return it to my clients. I do not want to export them as separate images to save large transfers, I just want to export the changes. Is there any ways in Lightroom that allows me to achieve that?
3) Finally, if number 2 is possible and I am able to export the changes in some kind of export file(s). Is there anyway for my clients to sync their images with the changes that I made? Updating their images in their existing catalog on their computer.
Thanks in Advance,
Simon

Hi Rob,
Thanks for the reply. I will go look into custom metadata for 1).
However, for 2) & 3) I have tried doing what you suggested. It seems to only give me the option to import the modify images as new images instead of updating the existing one on the client's catalog. I think when I import the client's images on my catalog it import them as brand new images and when I pass my catalog back to them. The client's Lightroom doesn't recognise the importing images already exisited in their catalog and the image path is not referring to their local copy but to mine. What I want to export is only what I have done to the image (since LR is lossless) so the data transfer would be minimal.
Hope this make sense...
Thanks
Simon

I am using Lightroom 5.5 on OS X.  I have created several small collections with about 180 images and I am trying to sync them via Lightroom mobile for later iPad access.  The first collection syncs properly, and then Lightroom syncing seems to hang.  The label in the upper right shows "Syncing 150 photos" but does not count down.  Opening and closing LR does not restart the process.

    PROBLEM STILL EXISTS...
I spoke to soon!  I tried adding a couple of more collections to sync.  Lightroom shows "Syncing 814" photos on upper left, but never apparently syncs any.  If I exit Lightroom it notifies me there are 814 images to sync.  When I reopen it seems to pick up and stall where it left off.  These new collections are not posting - this is the same problem as before.
I am pretty sure there is a serious bug in Lightroom here.  I encourage support to contact me.

  • Lightroom Sync Issues

I am sure this topic has been beaten to death, but I have yet to find an answer.
First off, my sync speeds are painfully slow.  I have 50 Mbs down and 5 Mbs up on my ISP so speed isn't an issue on my end.  I tested my connection speed while Lightroom wasn't even open and very little network activity was taking place.
Now, Lighroom has been stuck on the same photo count in the "status" area showing the sync for hours.  I have tried restarting Lightroom a couple times to restart the connection with no luck in getting anywhere.
Has anyone found a solution to this?  I really want this sync between Lightroom desktop and mobile to work, but so far it seems to be great in concept.
I am using Lightroom 5.5 on an iMac running Mavericks.

I'm not entirely sure what status you're in right now from the thread - whether you stuck in his sync or it's slow?
And what steps have you taken to get into the situation you're currently at?  You're syncing a lot of images, so did you just start sync by logging in, then selecting all these collections for sync and then waiting for it to sync?  Or have you performed any steps in the meantime?  Are you syncing new images both from your desktop to your devices and from the devices back to the desktop at the same time?
According to the log you have been running for ~8 hours and synced ~3000 photos.  That's not great performance overall, but it's also not bad enough to make me sure that there's something going wrong here.
If it's just going slowly, does stopping Lightroom and restarting speed things up again?  We shouldn't really be getting much slower over time with those image counts, but it's possible there is some issue there that we haven't caught.

  • Dual Sync Challenge

    Hi Folks -
I've read a LOT of threads over the last several days about syncing issues but have yet to resolve my challenge. Here's what I'm faced with:
I have a PC at work and a Mac at home. Initially when I set up the iPhone I used iTunes on my work PC. I used Outlook connected to Exchange (Entourage connected to Exchange on my Mac). The iPhone synced all my contacts and calendar this first time when connected to the PC. All my music is on the Mac at home, so naturally I wanted to connect at home, manage my music and keep my phone charged.
I connected the phone to my Mac and put some music on the iPhone. Initially I thought I would sync the iPhone to my contacts and calendar at home and at work. It appeared that it was going to re-write duplicates of all my calendar items so I cancelled it and de-selected all the contact and calendar sync options in iTunes on the Mac. After this initial connection of the iPhone to my Mac, iTunes on the PC no longer recongnizes the iPhone. It charges the battery but iTunes never sees it.
Based on suggestions I've seen in the forums, I've re-installed iTunes on the PC. I've reset the sync history on the Mac and the PC (inside iTunes), and I've reset my iPhone - none of which causes iTunes on the PC to see my iPhone.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Scott

Did you completely UNINSTALL iTunes before reinstalling it? This is a critical step. See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698. Don't skip any of the steps.

  • Lightroom syncing seems to have stalled with mobile in last 30 hours

been using mobile since it dropped, was working well until the past 30 hours.  Signed up for the CC, using updated LR software (updated the version I purchased last year.  Synced over 40,000 photos, stress tested it in both directions with no problems until yesterday, even enabled offline editing for about 25,000 photos.  Editing photos on both sides seem to take, but now nothing seems to sync, have 535 awaiting to sync for last day.  Rebooted both iPad and Mac, optimized catalog, have 603 photos in the Sync Errors catalog, but they are in the proper collections... now at a loss

    Guido... some more info.
before I saw your reply, I just went back and deleted the synced data within LR, deleted the app on the iPad, and started again.  Synced 4 collections overnight, 2058 photos, LR shows they synced, nothing moved to iPad.
As I think more about this, the app worked great (although slow) when I synced with my version of LR during the trial.  Within 24 hours after I "clicked" to join CC, the problems began to occur.  I followed the instructions under your "join" tab in LR, never saw an option to download LR under CC, so I used mine.  Yesterday, I first noticed the status of software under the CC icon, said all was fine.
I've enjoyed this app, getting photos organized and basic edits on a tablet.  Had been using Revel since the day it dropped, using it from camera to iPad to Revel to LR, then back to Revel.  I realize the progress Revel has made since its debut, looking forward to more from LR mobile and updated PS.
Attached is the log produced just now and after I deleted the 42,000 smart previews via LR drop down, and tried to recreate new photo syncs
    thanks

  • ID Sync challenge?

I changed my apple ID online.  My iphone 5 is still linked to my old ID and won't sync to the cloud.  Do I have to delete the old ID on the phone itself, add new ID and then sync?

    Check

Did you install Identity Synchronization for Windows?
The info is there and it will be helpful.

  • Does CS lightroom sync with CS6

I have edited photos in CS6 and when try to print via lightroom the edits don't appear to have copied across

What do you mean when you say, "CS Lightroom"? There is no such program. What version of Lightroom do you have? Your workflow seems to be a little bit backward. The normal workflow is to do as much work as possible using Lightroom, turning to Photoshop when necessary. A little more information would be helpful, including your operating system, your camera, and a better description of your workflow.

  • Apple TV Sync challenges...

After battling through a migration assistant conversion to a new imac at the same time as upgrading atv to 3.01 I managed to completely erase all my atv content - this only took me a couple of days off and on. I'm finally getting music synced(I think) albeit at a snails pace - no small feat. I tried connecting via an ethernet cable but no joy making the connection work - can anyone give me the paint by numbers instructions to connect and sync atv with an ethernet cable direct connected? My network preferences show the ethernet port not configured in red - and when I try to configure it, it wants an internet provider and ip address. Appreciate any help. mike

That's right Winston - I was hoping I could simply connect the atv to my imac with the ethernet cable, and then use that connection for the sync process as opposed to my wireless network. mike

  • Lightroom Mobile Sync Problems

    Hi
My Lightroom Mobile syncing process is running very slow. I deleted the sync.lrdata file and started a new sync of approx 9500 images. Currently I have around 2100 images to sync, however the process has almost stopped. Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

    Hi Trev,
Have you tried Syncing in Safe mode on the Mac? This would be to eliminate any processes that might be active in normal mode that might interfeer with the upload. Does you screen has a Retina Display? I have seen some topics where this might create a longer time for generating Smart previews to a smaller size
(iPad/iPhone screen size, compared to the Retina display)
Did you verify a Speedtest for your connection, just to make sure this is not influencing the sync behavior
This you can check for instance with Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test
There are some more topics on the forum where people experience problems using the Sync with a high amount of images in the Catalog.

  • My lightroom mobile says it has 500 pictures but doesn't sync?

HHaving issues with lightroom mobile. The cloud says I have 574 picture but most of those are blank unless I click on it. Mobile says it is syncing 3/ 574 but just keeps spinning. I have tried it multi able times but nothing! What is wrong?

Could you try to re-sign-in to Lr Mobile and let me know if that helps.
    If not please try this:
First remove the sync.lrdata file and restart LrD. This would restart/refresh the sync (metadata only).
Removing the Sync.lrdata might fix whatever the issue is.  Or, at least, might trigger it to occur again. So remove the Sync.lrdata, start Lr, and then wait until it either syncs or gets stuck again and create at this point a Lr Desktop diagnostic log which can hopefully provide some clues.
You can find the  sync.lrdata file here:
    On Mac it's at /Users/<user>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Lightroom/Sync Data/Sync.lrdata
On Win it would be at C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom\Caches\Sync Data\Sync.lrdata
Please send me the LR Desktop diagnostig log  - best as a private message with a downloadable dropbox link.
You can trigger the log via LR Desktop preferences -> Lightroom Mobile and when you hold down the alt key you will notice a generate diagnostic log button
In addtition send me a Lr Mobile app log as well. This can be triggered when you open up the settings and long press the to LR Icon a diagnostic log will be generated and attached to your local mail client.

  • No sync with Lightroom mobile in lr 5.5

I can sync my photos from iPhone to LR 5.5
However, if I chose photos in LR to sync with LR mobile, they do not appear neither on the iPhone nor online.
What can I do? This is just a big disappointment.

    Hi All,
I am having the same problem described here and in several other posts.
Since upgrading to LR5.5 upload has been much slower, and has since stopped altogether with no changes from the desktop app syncing with the mobile app or vice versa.
I've been through a bunch of suggestions from Adobe's support, such as creating and dropping collections to try and kick start it. Deleting and letting rebuild the lrsync data folder. And then re-arranging photos within collections to try and resolve.
Initially some metadata changes were syncing, but images themselves weren't (all JPEG & CR2/RAW), but now nothing. No change in any collection on the desktop will sync to the mobile app or appear in the web version - lightroom.adobe.com.
I have also noticed that lightroom seems to be hitting the CPU very hard - all of the time, and the following message keeps appearing every few seconds in the system log:

  • Lightroom photos not syncing to desktop

The small collection of photos I have managed to sync up to Creative Cloud will not sync to Lightroom desktop despite the switch being on in the top left window. Is this because I'm only on the trial version?

I removed the link from your post - please always share it privately.
What you should try to do is to
    1. Uncheck your Collection called "My Photo Stream" from syncing if its visible in LrD
    2. Shut down Lr Desktop
    3. Then delete the Sync.lrdata file:
    Win: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom\Caches\Sync Data\Sync.lrdata
    Mac: /Users/<user>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Lightroom/Sync Data/Sync.lrdata
    4. Restart Lr Desktop and start to sync
