Lightroom Tags in Photoshop Elements 5

I have a huge PSE5 tagged catalog, but now I work in Lightroom and want to add keyworded JPEGs back into my PSE5 catalog. When I bring these Lightroom keyworded photos into PSE5 the tags aren't recognized. Is it possible to do this?

I currently using Photoshop element 11 and I want to buy lightroom 5.
can i install lightroom 5 without removing the element 11?
because I still use the video editing from the element 11.

Photoshop Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 11 are standalone products. Each comes with its own Elements Organizer 11. When both are on the same computer they share the same Elements Organizer 11 catalog. Consequently, Premiere Elements 11 will continue to have its Elements Organizer 11 even if you uninstall Photoshop Elements 11.

I suppose you are using the organizer : you'll be able to recover your PSE5 catalogs either by a catalog conversion on the same computer or by the backup / restore process.

Why can't I edit Lightroom pictures in Photoshop Elements?

I'm on a Windows PC running Lightroom 5 and Photoshop Elements 12. Why can't I get Elements as an option when I am in Lightroom and select Photo - Edit In?? Elements is not an option there. Can I change that??

When setting up the editor in the prefs choose images of 8 bits not 16 bits, either PSD or tiff. Elements works best with 8 bit images. For example you can't use layers with 16 bit images.
Once you have set up the LR prefs you are ready to make the round trip:
1) Ctrl+E in the Library to export selected image with develop settings or right-click and choose Open In Photoshop Elements Editor
2) Make your adjustments in Photoshop Elements; then Ctrl+S to replace (overwrite) Lightroom export copy
3) Ctrl+W to close in Photoshop Elements and update Lightroom thumbnail.
On Mac OSX Cmd+E; Cmd+S; Cmd+W
The important point is to overwrite the LR export copy by using File >> Save (Ctlr+S) because a tiff or PSD file has been automatically rendered by LR based upon your preference setting for External Editing. If you use “Save As” you create a new document which LR knows nothing about. It will only show in the LR Library if you save.

Tags in Photoshop Elements 11

I just converted to Photoshop Elements 11 and have all my picture file organized using Tags, which has worked very well in previous version of PE.
Everything converted OK but the way PE11 uses Tags is quite confusing.
First, Tags are shown on the right side, but when you click on a group another menu of the tags pop up at the top of the screen, why in 2 places??
Second, In previous version I could choose a group of different Tags and they would all show up. In PE11 if I pick a second Tag the picture screen gives a message "No Media To Be Displayed".
Third, To move from one Tag to another I have to go back and start over.
Is this a glitch in PE11 or am I missing something in the logic of Tags?

Using Lightroom 5 in Photoshop Elements 9

You do not use Lightroom from within PS9. Lightroom is a freestanding program, and there is no way to call Lightroom from PS9. The process is to import images into Lightroom and make your adjustments there. Then, when it's necessary to use PS9 to do additional work that Lightroom cannot do, there is an option in Lightroom to Edit In, and you will have the option to send the image from Lightroom to PS9. After completing your work, you save that image and return to Lightroom. There will be a new file in Lightroom (PSD or TIF depending on how you have set your preferences) that will have all of your original Lightroom adjustments applied as well as any further adjustments that you did using PS9.

Lightroom 2 and Photoshop Elements 6 Organiser

I have had a look at a friend's set up with Lightroom and CS3, and I have decided to use Lightroom myself.
However, at present I do not use, (and do not intend to use!) CS3, and instead use Photoshop Elements 6.0. My editing skills are limited, and Elements offers what I need for my RAW files. I prefer the workflow and categorising facilities of Lightroom, which is why I am buying it.
My question is, can I easily convert my existing PSE 6.0 catalog into Lightroom, or perhaps it will automatically subsume it? I would prefer to discontinue the PSE Organiser, but retain the Editor function. I think they are 2 separate programs, but would welcome anybody's opinion as to whether this is likely to cause me problems.

Import images edited in LIghtroom 4 into Photoshop Elements 11.

I wnat to import images I have edited in Lightroom into Photoshop Elements. It will only allow me to import the original RAW file and not the XMP Sidecar file. I get the message "File type not supported. Can anyone help? John

The usual method is not to start Elements, and then try to get ("import") the edited image from LR (or, from disk). This is a more laborious approach, also limiting: for example you cannot externally edit a LR "virtual copy" this way.
LR is designed to be the front-end, which pushes the LR-edited image out to Elements on demand (which will then be started up automatically, with the relevant image already opened for you). Doing it this way, the edited image then appears back in LR by itself, afterward, and the whole process is convenient. You can go back and edit the same image further, again using LR as your single access point to the image - both for LR adjustments and for Photoshop alterations.
The standard "Edit in Photoshop / Edit in Photoshop Elements" method tries to work via ACR. This does not require saving .XMP files to disk, btw.
It is also possible to force LR to render the file itself, which removes any issues of ACR compatibility, and employs the full gamut of LR function "up front" when starting an external edit. All Elements (or whatever) then needs to be able to do, is open up a readymade standard TIFF (or PSD).
One way to force that is via dialog options, though the options presented do vary depending on the situation.
Another way is to set up an external editing preset (in LR Preferences / external editing tab). This records a given combination of file attributes and program to be used (by browsing to the image editor program file), and is saved under a name. This name appears in the context menu (Edit In... submenu) and can be used directly thereafter.

Face-tags in photoshop elements 8

In photoshop elements 8, are the "face tags" written" in the IPCT (or other metatags, like XMP), or are they only recorded in the database of PSE. Is it possible to insert them in the IPTC.

the face tags or any nornal tag will not be written to the file, unless you explicitly mention by using Write Keywords tags to file option

How can I import files into Lightroom 3 from Photoshop elements 8?

I just installed Lightroom 3 and bypassed the option to import my pics from Photoshop elements 8 (to see what other options were available). Lightroom advanced a page and there seems to be no way to return to the previous page, I've closed the page & reopened a few times.
I cannot locate where PSe8 stores it's files either so that is not an option. How do I reset lightroom to import my old files? Thank you.
I also see "upgrade files" but have no idea what this means & don't see an explanation; a simple definition would be great. Thanks again!

Editing People tags in Photoshop Elements 11

I just converted from Photoshop Elements 10 to 11. I can't find how to edit my people tags in 11. Is there away? If so what is it?

When you double click on a people stack, you can see that there is another switcher Faces<->People on the top left corner of the grid. You may switch to Faces view > right click > Assign as profile picture. The notes you added with People tags in previous versions are not brought upon conversion., unfortunately.

How do I transfer photos and related tags from Photoshop Elements 5 to a new iMac Apple desktop computer

Is it possible to move all my photos , Tags and folders in Photoshop Elements 5 from my Vista machine to my new Apple iMac desktop?

You will need to upgrade PSE in windows to at least PSE 9, then do a full backup using the organizer's backup command to a removable drive, then restore to the mac. The mac organizer can only understand windows catalogs from PSE 9 or later.
