Lightroom to elements

I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem:
When I edit a photo in lightroom and then edit it in elements, my changes from elements are not included back into lightroom.  I hope this is making sense, but has this happened to anyone else?

Here is post with links to useful tips about using Elements with Lightroom:

  • Lightroom or Elements for a simple purpose - RAW to black&white

    Hi,
I have no experience whatsoever with digital photography, I've been working on analogue for several years now, but want to give it a try...
The thing is that I'm looking for a software, which will allow me:
    - possibility to convert color RAW from camera into black&white RAW, then export as a JPEG (I'd like to have a chance to enhance the contrast etc. on the RAW in b&w before having a final file, and maybe add option of plugins as NIK Silver Efex in the future if I feel a need for it)
    - add white frame around the JPEG, of which size I could choose, and maybe add my name/logo + date on the frame
I'm confused and don't know which software would allow me to do that two, simple things - Lightroom or Elements?
    Thanks for your support!

Elements is more limited in how to adjust the colors to black-and-white.
Lightroom has more sophisticated adjustments.  These adjustments are the same as in the Camera Raw plug-in for Photoshop, but absent in the Camera Raw plug-in for Elements.  The adjustments allow you to enhance the contrast and brightness of the gray-level for narrow ranges of original colors instead of a simple removal of color with a default color-balance or clicking on a preset that Elements has.
Here is a very verbose video introduction to the LR B/W conversion on an example photo, viewed best in full-screen HD:
    http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/bw_workflow_in_lightroom.shtml
Here is a step-by-step example with screenshots and description, from 2008, but the adjustments still mostly apply, except the vignetting you’d use wouldn’t be lens-related, it’d be the Post-Crop Vignetting in the Effects section that didn’t exist back in 2008:
    http://layersmagazine.com/create-stunning-black-and-white-images-in-lightroom.html
These were just the first and third links that showed up after Googling for Lightroom Black and White.
BTW, I am a photo-hobbyist and use Lightroom every day, so it’s not just for professionals making money off their photos that need something fast.  For me it is more about seriousness and perfection and freedom.

  • I got a new MacBook pro and want to install my lightroom and elements 11.

I uninstalled both programs on my old computer and this computer were set to factory setting and sold.
When I try to install on my new computer - after informing my serial numbers, I get the answer, that this number is not correct. II of course checked again, and the typed numbers are correct. The same as mentioned on you webside under my file.
    please help.

    Hi,
thanks for mail. I now tried again to activate lightroom by copying the serial number on Adobe webside/my account. Unfortunately same result: I got the following message:
The serial number is invalid. Please try again: if the problem persist, please contact customer support.
Unfortunately the could or would not help - only referred to this chat page.
I have serial numbers for both version 4 and 5 and of course downloaded the latest, which is version 5.

    Hi Kaj,
firstly this is a user to user forum so it's not our website, nevertheless I'm sure we can help you.
Firstly, are the serial numbers you're using for the same version of Lightroom?
If they are, then I'd suggest copying the serial numbers straight from your profile on the Adobe website to the Lightroom screen rather than retyping.  It's easy to mistype even when you're sure you're not (we've had several such instances in the past).
Can you five us the exact wording of the error message (or a screen grab as long as it doesn't reveal the serial numbers as this a public forum)?

  • Lightroom vs. elements

I am interested in understanding  the difference in the ability of Lightroom and Elements to edit photographs; if my only interest is cropping, setting exposure, saturation, clarity, etc, rather than the ability of the software to actually change the content of the image, such as removing a blemish from a face.
    Thanks for any response.

An Add Import would keep all the photos where they were and the LR folder structure would be the same as the original folder structure.
A Copy as DNG or Copy type of Import will make a copy of the images and put them under where you tell it in the Destination at the right.
A Move Import will take the images out of where they were and put them under the one destination you specify at the right.
With either the Copy or the Move import you have the option of putting the images all in one folder or all in a set of date folders under one folder.
You obviously didn't do an Add import otherwise the fold structure in LR would match your original folder structure on your hard disk, which you say it does not.
Do you remember if you did a Copy type of or a Move type of Import, and did you split things into different folders by date as part of the import process?  The Copy import would leave image files where they were and make copies and import those copies.  You can recover from this by merely starting over with a new catalog and do an Add Import from the original locations.  However, if you did a Move import that changed where the photos are on your disk and removed them from the original folders so there is no easy way to recover without reorganizing everything image by image.
Export locations can be anywhere you want and don't need to be in LR either before or after you export.  Exporting is what you do when you want to create a new copy of an image with all the adjustments you've specified in LR.  This isn't something you do to all your images you've imported, just ones you need to make new adjusted copies of.
I Import all the photos from a photoshoot in one folder labeled with the date and event/location/subject:
For example, for my niece's graduation a few weeks ago:  2014-05-10_GraduationSarah
At a realtime event there may be many that are blurry or out of focus, so I go through and choose the ones that are ok, and in this case there were three different students, my niece, her boyfriend, and a daughter of a family member all graduating, so I marked each person with a different color, and made three -- not their real names:
    2014-05-10_GraduationSarah\SarahFB
    2014-05-10_GraduationSarah\GeorgeFB
    2014-05-10_GraduationSarah\TiffanyFB
If it was a different sort of shoot where I was getting paid I would have a master folder of everything I shoot, then folders underneath that for various stages and purposes some with many photos, all watermarked, some with just a few.  For example: 1_Picks, 2_ClientPicks, 3_Single4x6, 4_Single8x10, 5_Special
The point of all this is that there is one folder with all the photos from my camera, the master photos, which I make adjustments to in LR, then a few sets of exports for their various purposes.  I don't even re-import any of these sub-folder exports because they will be going elsewhere, Facebook, online gallery, Wal-Mart, photobook software, etc, none of which are in LR.  The situation where I do reimport what I have process in LR is when I Edit-In round-trip to some external software, usually Photoshop for focus-stacking, or panorama-creation, or just further manipulations not possible in LR, then I'd reimport those results, before I Export them to their final destination.
Bridge/Photoshop has the same raw adjustments, but Organizer/Elements has a dumbed-down set of raw adjustments (Toning, Detail, Calibration) on purpose, so you have to pay for Photoshop to get them all.
In LR you have a master image that you imported, then you specify adjustments.  Those adjustments live in LR but no pixels are changed in the original image.  It is only when you Export that a new image is created with new pixel values that reflect the adjustments in LR, but the original image with its original pixel values is still there so the adjustments specified in LR make sense.  You can reimport that image into LR and do more adjustments on it, but why?  You could just as easily make more adjustments to the original image in LR, or make a virtual copy in LR and adjust that copy differently.  The non-destructive paradigm in LR is different than in Elements and Photoshop or other photo-editors that are destructive where you save over the original.

  • I have trial versions of Lightroom and Elements 11. "Edit in Photoshop.." does not open the image

Using trial versions of Lightroom and Elements 11, th ecommand to "Edit in Photoshop Elements 11" succeeds in opening Photoshop but fails to open the image. Any ideas?

I have the same problem with PS Elements 13 trial version (fully updated), but sadly this solution doesn't work... there is no 'Support Files' folder, and nothing called 'Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor.app' anywhere else.
    Any thoughts?

  • When will Lightroom and Elements support the Nikon D600?

When will Lightroom and Elements support the Nikon D600?  In the meantime is there a workaround so the D600 raw files can be exported to Lightroom or am I simply out of business until Adobe develops the needed patch?
As best as I have been able to figure out I may as well rebox the 600 and go back to my older, supported camera, until whenever.

A: What were you using before your precious D600 showed up today.
    A D90 with good glass.
    Nikon 70-200 f2.8, Nikon 24-70 f2.8, Voigtlander 58 f1.4, Tokina 11-16 f2.8.
Now I need to get a good FF wide solution for the D600.
Trigger on the D600 is much more stiff than my D90 so I'm having to press down a bit harder to get the AF confirmation. Just need to get used to that I guess.
FYI, JPG files right out of the camera are looking good.
B: Don’t you think Adobe wants to sell you the next generation product/upgrade to accommodate all of our insatiable photographic pursuits???
I had been using Apple's Aperture and switched to Lightroom a couple of months ago. I thought the price was actually quite fair for the power of the LR software. I did have to updgrade my computer's RAM....
C: Have a nice glass of wine tonight and enjoy your $2K investment. I’m personally looking forward to savoring a next generation photographic paradigm.
We did enjoy some vino last night! I was thinking I would possibly jump ship to Sony A99 and just switch to all Zeiss glass with autofocus, but I'm not convinced that the EVF is for me, and I'm really not a video shooter, mostly just landscape and real estate. Also, I the Sony turned out to be priced a bit too high for me personally in comparision to the D600.
    Buenos Dias!

  • Why can't I move photos from Lightroom to Elements II for further editing?

Why can't I move photos from Lightroom to Elements II for further editing?

You can. select the image you want to edit externally then :-
In the top toolbar Go to :- Photo, Edit in Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor
If this isn't working got to :-
    Edit, Preferences, External Editing
.....and check that Ps Elements is set there. You are able to set two external editors.
    Good luck!

  • Why Lightroom (Photoshop Elements and Photoshop CC) cannot open RAW-pictures taken by Canon G7X? When its possible?

When Lightroom (Potoshop Elements and Photoshop CC) can open RAW-pictures taken by Canon G7X-camera?

That is a new camera and you'll just have to wait and see when support is added. There's never any announcement ahead of time.
In the meantime you can either shoot RAW+JPG and import those, or convert to TIF using DPP and import those to Lightroom.

  • Lightroom versus Elements

I am considering changing to Adobe for handling and editing my photographs.  My impression is that Lightroom is a more sophisticated product than Elements. What are the feature differences between Lightrooom and Elements?  Why Lightroom versus Elements?  Do you have both and if so, why?

  • Converted to Lightroom from Elements 5

I installed the trial version from a link found in a message on this forum and imported from Elements 5. Luckily, I only had something less than 3000 images loaded into Elements and hadn't done serious tagging on most of them. I decided to use this trial version of Lightroom because I only decided yesterday to switch from Elements to Lightroom and ordered the shipped version so, being impatient, I would have to go with the trial version tomorrow anyway.
How did the import go? Well, not perfectly. It went well until the end when Lightroom crashed just after it finished importing. I wasn't even touching the computer when it did that. However, when I brought it up it looked OK.
For some reason it decided to have some of my keyword tags nested and some not. In other words, the same tag would appear nested under something and not nested. I had no idea how to merge tags (surely this is something one would want to do?) so I think I ended up losing some tagging, but I can live with that. Some other tags had lost their hierarchical structure but at least weren't duplicated.
Folders also had lost their structure but that looks to be just an issue of dragging and dropping to fix it. They aren't physical folders in Lightroom.
My most serious issue for me is the capture date. Elements supported not knowing the day and/or month. They are coming in here differently. July 1952 is June 30, 1952. I had previously checked and Exifer does display just what I entered in Elements: if only the year, then only the year, if the month and year, then the month and year. This is not coming over in Lightroom.
I have thousands of slides we are scanning and I almost never know the exact day any slide was taken. I'm lucky to know the month. I was overjoyed that the capability existed in Elements to specify what you do know and not have to make up more that you don't know. I don't know how that is actually stored in the exif info, but like I said, Exifer did understand it.
Any suggestions about what to do? Elements can't simply have used the last day of the month before or the last day of the year before because surely you could specify those dates explicitly.
I'm going to have to get used to working with Lightroom. I was able to do things pretty quickly in Elements. Lightroom has a lot of stuff displayed on both sides and I have to figure out how to move around quickly. In paricular, the metadata area doesn't stay put to type in location, for example. The use more metadata fields and not just tags is one of the major reasons I am switching to Lightroom. I have lots of tags as well. I guess recent keywords are going to be very important.
So now I have to go read the help, which so far doesn't seem very helpful.
I had played around with Beta 4 so I know something about Lightroom.

Can't be physical folders because they came in structured incorrectly compared to my disk. OK, they are physical folders in the sense that they contain what the corresponding physical folder contains but they do not need to have the same structure as your physical folder system.
I was able to drag a couple of folders into the same relationship as my physical structure and it didn't do anything to my actual file system. Hum. I'm going to have to play around with this. The help is not very good.
Version sets did not survive together in any way. Stacks seem to be stacked. I had more version sets, though. I guess I stack them.

  • Lightroom to elements editing on Mac Lion OSX

    Hi All,
I've had PSE 9 for sometime now and PSE 7 prior to that.
I've recently downloaded Lightroom 4 as a 30 day trial. I've followed all the instructions re 'preferences settings' to allow further subsequent edits with PSE9 but I still cannot edit with PSE9 even though the option is there when i go to Photo>Edit Photo> Edit in Adobe Photoshop Elements.
PSE9 doesn't even launch let alone not bring in the photo.
So what have i tried so far to resolve?
    1. Looking through all my application files on my Mac to ensure i've found the right file to link to. I've only managed to find 'Adobe Photoshop elements 9'  - what i haven't been able to find is any file with the word 'editor' against it. So in essence i have 2 files 'elements organizer' and 'elements 9' which is my editor. I've linked to the latter but it's still not working.
    2. I've tried dragging an amended DNG file onto the PSE9 editor icon. This then bring the photo into PSE's ACR editor - but without the lightroom amendments?!
    Can anyone help?
    thanks
    Richard

Sorry can anyone else shed any further light on this?
As per Brett's advice i'm linked to HD/Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 9/Adobe Photoshop Elements
I now seem to be able to edit in PSE9 by exporting my image from LR as PSD and then dragging onto the PSE icon. But I can't get the app to open via Photo>Edit Photo>Edit photo in PSE.
would it have anything to do with me still having PSE catalog in use as well as LR catalog?

  • I'm trying to decide between Lightroom and Elements.

I need the software for jewellery photo updates for the web (outlining, cropping, pasting to white background, touch ups, etc).
Which one is best for my needs?

Outlining and pasting to a white background ... Elements, not a doubt in my mind.
    Lightroom doesn't do these things.
By the way, whatever you decide, download and use the 30-day free trial and try it out youself to make sure it does what you want, before you buy.

  • Lightroom, Photoshop Elements, and Nik Software playing together

I have Photoshop Elements 10 and number of plugins, like Topaz Labs ones. I have also just acquired Lightroom. I do want to get CS5 eventually but that is not in the near future.
I am thinking of getting Nik Software's Complete Collection. It does not support Elements 10, but it does support Lightroom. So solution seems easy, just use it in Lightroom. That solution could also result in $200 saving as edition that includes support for Photoshop and Lightroom is right now $399 while one that supports just Lightroom (and Aperture but that is not of relevance to me as I am a Windows user) is $199.
However, I do not want to lose benefits of other plugins I have so going with solely Lightroom edition means increased going back and forth between Photoshop and Lightroom.
So question for those experienced with 3 of these together: Do you foresee issues with getting edition that just supports Lightroom? What things I might feel are missing / might frustrate me with this approach?

I purchased the complete Suite from Nik and use it with Lightroom and it has worked well for me. Of course, I spend 95% of my time in LR3 and only use PSE for occassional tweaks like cloning etc. The Nik package offers a lot of functionality, esp when added to all that is aready available through LR3.

  • Buying Lightroom + Photoshop Elements / Premiere Pro + MC CS5 ?

    Hi Community,
i would like to know if it makes sense buying Lightroom 3 AND Phtoshop Elements AND Master Collection CS5 ?
I will definately buy soon the CS5 Master Collection, but do the other tools have possibilites / functions and stuff the Master Collection doesnt have  or cant be done with the Master Collection ?
If YES, what are the main differences between LR / PE and the CS5 ??
I have read the product informations for all three mentioned tools, but still can not decide wheather the Master Collection does include the functionality the other two products do (in my opinion and according to the MC CS 5 slogan: the MC CS 5 ist the ultimate software tool that can be everything done with!!!)
Hope for fast reply and wish you an nice weekend.
    regards
    MC

I got PSE 8 which is way more than I need, and then downloaded the trial of Lr3 - which I love. Pse 8 will do advanced when for me when the time comes.  Investigate the features of these two - and see if you actually need MC CS to save money...

Have a look at this faq:
