Lightroom to Photoshop Droplet File Count Limitations

I have tested and can replicate the following process:
1- Select more than 15 or more raw files (or probably any other file type BUT jpg) in Lightroom
2- Export them as .jpg files, add to catalog and under 'Post Processing' choose a droplet (the only way to run a Photoshop action via Lightroom)
Lightroom will first create all of the jpg files and then begin to feed the files to the droplet in Photoshop.  The Action FAILS everytime after the 15th file with the following error: "Droplet couldn't communicate with Photoshop"
Now, do the same thing but only with 14 files:  runs perfectly!
I know this is a Lightroom issue because I can take the same 15+ jpg files and using Bridge, use the Automate->batch process on the same Action and get perfect results as well.
I have experienced this same problem in CS3 and CS4 on two different Windows OS's
WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Windows only, but I'm a bit surprised it's still affecting 7. In some ways it would be better if LR sent one file at a time - instead of one long text string for all the files. But there are occasions (eg HDR or other blending) where you'd actually want the other program to receive a group of files in a single call.
Maybe set up a share, and point the folders to the share instead of the folder path? But that's only a guess.

  • Different file count between Photo Elements 12 and Lightroom 5.

    To Whom it might concern:
    When I check properties the file count in Photo Elements 12 is different than that of Lightroom 5.
    In one case Photo Elements shows 743 files and 51 folders and lightroom shows 734 files.
    I counted each a every file and found Lightroom to have the correct count and Elements the same count
    but properties shows a count of 743.
    Please answer.

  • Cannot open DNG files via Bridge or Lightroom in Photoshop?

    I have a problem that has popped up since I installed the 5.6 RAW upgrade to my CS4/Lightroom 2.2 package.  Hopefully someone would be kind enough to help me diagnose it, as it affects only about 85,000 raw files currently in my Lightroom Catalogue.
    The files were originally shot using a Canon professional camera in their proprietary RAW format, CR2. This conversion occurred upon input into Lightroom while at the same time the original CR2 files discarded (as I am not the son of a Hard Drive Manufacture!).  After the installation of the recent DNG/RAW converter upgrade I first noticed that the dng files would not display in Bridge even if I rebuild the cache, however, if I downloaded a Canon CR2 file they displayed without a problem.  This condition Bridge; Lightroom continued to display both types of RAW files correctly, however the dng file now had a small triangle with an explanation symbol inside it on the top right of the thumbnail preview indicating that “Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo, while there was no associated problem with the canon CR2 file.  The message 'You will not be able to make adjustments to this photo” was associated with the triangle icon.  Quite discerning, considering this has occurred to all 18,000 previously imported and rendered dng previews.
    I then tried to import the files into Camera RAW using the ‘right-click technique’ in Bridge on the dng file symbols representing the thumbnails that would be there if I did not have this problem.  When I right clicked and selected ‘Open in Camera Raw’ there is no response what so ever.  If I drag the dng symbol to the Photoshop desktop it results in the following error message “Could not complete your request because of a program error.”  Either way there is no getting the dng file into Photoshop.
    I have attempted the following fixes:
    1.       Clean reinstall of CS4 (saving preferences)
    2.       Clean update of Camera RAW 5.5
    Does anyone out there have any solutions, recommendations, work-around or suggestions for this situation?  Is it a problem with a conversion of the metadata? The file structure itself?  Can it be fixed? At this juncture I am out of Tums’s, that nasty tasting pink stuff in the bathroom and am headed for the pharmacy for something stronger.
    I would appreciate any help at all.

    I know it does help find a solution, but I have run across some older DNG's that will open in LR 2 but will not open in Bridge/CSR 4. (These are DNG's created by Scott Kelby for his LR 2 book - I have attached on to this post.)  I can open them first in LR and then tell LR to edit the image in Photoshop and it will open. I have not yet had the issue of LR not being able to open the DNG correctly. However, I may not have done a DNG conversion since I installed the 5.6 upgrade. When I get a chance I will go convert some CR2 files and see what happens.
    Mike
    I have uploaded one of Kelby's dng's that will not open in my desktop nor laptop Bridge/CSR 4 w/all updates. DNG 5.6 is unable to process them as well. It will import into LR. Other than that I cannot cause DNG's not to load into Bridge/CSR.
    Opps the file is too big. You can download it from here. Kelby's Technical Copy Editor told me she did not have the same problem. Weird. I hope you solve your problem.

  • Can't open a raw file from Lightroom to Photoshops ACR

    I got used to using Lightroom 3 as a place to catalogue and store my images but still process my Raw files in Adobe Photoshops Raw Convertor. Now that I have Lightroom 5 I can't find out how to do this.  With version 3 I just highlighted say 3 files and hit command E.
    I know I can open an image as a smart object and go about it that way but I can't open multiple images from Lightroom to ACR.
    I know people will say '' hey well do your Raw work in Lightroom'' but I got used to using the Photoshop Raw convertor and I spent a lot of time and money learning it.
    Surely there is a way to open say three images from L5 to ACR ???
    Please help this has been driving me nuts, It's suggested I will need to start using Bridge but I'm bewildered and don't want to start learning something new.
    Thanks in advance.

    It has been a long time since I even had Lightroom 3 installed on my computer.  I don't recall the behavior you are describing.  ACR is used to translate the adjustments made in Lightroom as the image is transferred to Photoshop.  You may have become accustomed to a certain behavior, but it doesn't work that way.  The process of moving from Lightroom to Photoshop works on the assumption that you have done your raw adjustments using Lightroom, and you are now passing that image to Photoshop.

  • My new Nikon d610 NEF files will not download to my photoshop lightroom 4 & photoshop elements 11

    I recently purchased a Nikon d610. I have lightroom 4 & photoshop elements 11. Neither fully updated software will read the raw NEF files from the SD card. What can I do about this?

    Hi,
    The D610 was only announced at the beginning of this month. Adobe do not get advance notice of cameras and have to wait until they get their hands on a copy of the camera. Then it takes them about 2 to 3 months before they can release a new version of camera raw.
    You will have wait until they have completed their work but I don't expect that will get an update for version 11 - Adobe normally only supply updates for current versions. A new DNG converter should be produced that you could use.
    In the meantime, you will have to use the Nikon software.
    These are my thoughts as a user and not a Adobe statement.
    Regards,

  • Open one than more file from Lightroom to photoshop at the same time

    Hi,
    i'm a PS Elements-User and i have a question. Is it possible to open more than 1 file from lightroom into photoshop with one click? Thank you in advance for helping me.

    I use PSE9 and send several derivate files (TIFFs) from LR to PSE9 all the time to do panos.
    I've recorded a little screen capture showing 4 images being sent to PSE9 from LR3.6. You can see the 4 tiffs being added to the catalog before calling PSE9 and then the 4 TIFFs arrive in PSE9.
    What Operating System do you use? Can you show a screenshot of the external editor settings for PSE?

  • Photoshop droplets don't work after file.copy();

    I wrote a script to backup all of my files in a directory, like this
    fileObj = File('~/Desktop/Vendor Swatches.app');
    fileObj.copy('~/Desktop/BACKUP/' + fileObj.name);
      I noticed that when it copies my Photoshop Droplets, they no longer work.  If you look at the attached image, you can see the file before and after copying.  The end file is also listed as "Application (Classic)".  Does anybody know why this is happening?  Or any way to prevent it?
    thanks!

    I don't use File.copy() myself it creates a 'NEW' file which makes it pretty useless to me. My Retrospect back-ups would be never ending. It looks like form your images you are making a copy across from mounted server? From a personal point of view I would have the system do the copy/moving of files… Here are a few functions that may be of use to you… Copying files/folders you could do this with the shells 'cp' or 'ditto'
    Using cp…
    #target photoshop
    var source = Folder.selectDialog('Select a Folder to Copy from?');
    var dest = Folder.selectDialog('Select a Folder to Copy to?');
    if (source != null && dest != null) {
         var res = cpFiles(source, dest);
         alert(res);
    function cpFiles(sf,df) {
         var comm = 'cp ';
         var optns = '-R ';
         var sPath = "'" + sf.fsName + "/' ";
         var dPath = "'" + df.fsName + "'";

         var res = undefined;
         var sh = app.system(sh);
         !sh ? res = true : res = false;
         return res;
    And much the same using ditto…

         return res;
    And lastly TAR Archive a folder…

    if (source != null) {
         var res = makeTAR(source);

  • Raw adjustments made in Photoshop CS file browser are not transferring to Lightroom 4.

    I have thousands of images all on external hard drives with raw adjustments made in Photoshop CS file browser.  When I import these raw files from the external drive into Lightroom 4 the original raw adjustments are not transferring or at least the preview of those adjustments are not showing up the way they do in file browser.  Why? Please help.

    Hi JGJenson,
    Were the images already imported into iPhoto when you edited them in PS?
    If they were then in order for the edit to be reflected within iPhoto you have to save with the same name.
    So you need to navigate the iPhoto Library in the Finder and drag out the images that you saved back into the library with the different names. Drag them to the desktop, then import them from there.
    If you are using PS as an external editor that you set up within iPhoto's preferences then the images must be saved with the same name and be flattened for the edits to be reflected within iPhoto.
    If you want to save them with a different name, they must not be saved into the iPhoto Library. They need to be saved to the desktop and then imported into iPhoto.

  • Is it NAS the solution for a PC and MAC common Lightroom and Photoshop files or Paragon software?

    I'm a Pc user willing to by a Mac. Before to do that I need to solve the problem of having to share files stored in to external drivers formated in NTFS. I'm a Lightroom and Photoshop user with various TB photo archibes. I have been suggested to make use of a PARAGON softeware or to use a NAS link to the WiFi router. How would you solve the problem, please?

    Ok.. much more complicated.
    There is several things that add to the background of the story.
    1. That you are trying to backup a USB drive drive already.. I strongly recommend CCC to do this.. as you cannot setup a separate task in TM to separate the backups. I can understand not wanting to add another USB and it is older iMac so usb2 only.
    2. Your Express do add complexity.. yes they work better if using the TC..
    Will replacing the ASUS with a TC improve my music streaming through the AE's given that it will all be apple then?
    More than likely although hard to say.
    Is the wireless range of the TC as good as the ASU in your opinion?
    No, i have both and the Asus is very good.. but with the Express you can do more than you are doing.
    What model Express and what model Asus we need to know to give a straight answer??
    3. I assume that if I simply replace the ASUS with a TC and use same SSID and PW it should be an easy swap since we have many mobile and networked devices in the house?
    I strongly recommend you start over with new names..
    Problems in wireless networks are common.. and part of the problem is trying to make one wireless router pretend to be another .. you don't fool the clients that rely on MAC address, BSSID not SSID. And you don't fool the main router.. which now is lost as to the clients expecting one MAC address and getting another.
    It doesn't take that long.. use a slightly different name but the same password is fine.. I have several wireless routers.. all use the same password but different SSID.

  • Batch processing a PDF file with photoshop droplet

    hey, ive been trying and trying to make a photoshop droplet where i can drop a pdf on it and it will apply a "levels" (cmd+L on mac) change to all of the pages and re export it as a pdf.
    .....i know how to record actions and create droplets but there are issues with the number of pages of the pdf and the name of the pdf
    if you can figure out method for this and share that would be AWESOME!

    Which version of Audition are you using? The latest ones allow you to specify where the batched files are saved and also if any Prefix or Postfix are added to the file name. These are all under Export Settings in the Batch Process pane. However you must have the Export box ticked to give you access to the settings.

  • How can I edit lightroom 5 smart previews on mac book pro (mbp) when the lightroom 5 master image files are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp

    How can I edit lightroom 5 smart previews on mac book pro (mbp) when the lightroom 5 master image files are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp? So far when I try to disconnect the external HD from the mbp, I get the following pop up window: The disk "external hard drive A" couldn't be ejected because "Lightroom" is using it. Quit that application and try to eject this disk again. When I do that and restart Lightroom 5, the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom - Select Catalog screen pops up but doesn't list my external hard drive A as a choice.
    I've reviewed Adobe's Lightroom Help | Smart Previews Lightroom 5 web page and still haven't been able to figure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

    Your internal HDD. by default, is named 'Macintosh HD'. From what information you supplied, it looks like there is already a Lightroom catalog installed on you local (internal) HDD using the standard naming convention Adobe uses as well as a Lightroom catalog on your external drive which you created. To be sure of which catalog Lightroom is loading when it starts up, To do this, start Lightroom as you normally would. After it starts, select the Lightroom menu item, then select the Catalog Preferences item and finally, navigate to the General tab. The Location information will tell you exactly what catalog Lightroom is opening by default. This will likely be the Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog on your external HDD. Once that is confirmed, you are ready to proceed. As an additional test/verification, you can shut down Lightroom and, this time, start Lightroom while holding down the ALT/OPTION key. This will cause Lightroom to pause and display a screen which will allow you to chose a different catalog to open. Navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder and select the Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat file. When Lightroom comes up, there should be no previews or folders as this catalog should be empty. Now you can be certain which catalog is being used and which catalog has all your data and you are ready to migrate your current catalog. Shut down Lightroom.
    To migrate your current catalog, use Finder to locate your Photography Mac Book Pro Versions folder on your external drive. Select the folder and select COPY from the context menu. Next, use Finder to navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder on you internal HDD. You can start at the Macintosh HD level and work your way down by opening each level (Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures). Select the /Pictures folder and then select PASTE... from the context menu. When the COPY/PASTE is complete, you should see the following files on the Macintosh HD:
    Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom/ and
    Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions
    The Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder will contain the empty default catalog the Adobe created when Lightroom was installed and Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions will contain a copy of the catalog you created on your external HDD.
    You are almost done now. Make sure your external drive is still attached for this step. Restart Lightroom using the ALT/OPTION key again. When the Select Catalog screen appears, select the Choose a Different Catalog button (lower left side). When you do, a Finder window will open to allow you to navigate to a catalog of your choosing. Navigate to Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions and select the file Photography Mac Book Pro Version.lrcat. This is the copy you just created. Select the Open button and Lightroom should start. You should see all of your previews and settings just as before. Also, in the left hand panel, all of your folder should show up and none of them should be dimmed and none of your previews should display a small exclamation point badge. Either a dimmed folder name or an exclamation point badge indicates that Lightroom can't find the associated image file. If everything looks good, go to the Lightroom menu, select Preferences and then select the General tab. Under Default Catalog, select an option to either load the LAST catalog opened or select the Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog from the drop down. Shut down Lightroom and then restart it normally. This time, when Lightroom starts, you should be viewing the new copy of your catalog. You can confirm this by looking at the General tab on the Catalog Preferences screen (Lightroom/Catalog Preferences menu items). Shut down Lightroom once again and this time, eject your external drive before restarting. This time, your folders in the left hand panel will be dimmed but you should be able to work with your smart previews. If Lightroom should display a Select Catalog screen with the external drive detached, double check your settings as it indicates Lightroom is still looking at the copy of the catalog on the external drive rather than the new copy you made.
    Finally, if you are seeing dimmed folders and/or exclamation point badges with the external drive attached, this indicates a problem. You can select any folder and select Update Folder Location from the context menu. This will allow you to navigate to the copy on the external drive and select it. Lightroom will then update the catalog (select to synchronize the content). This will not only clear the dimmed folder problem but also remove the exclamation point badges for all photos in that missing folder. However, it may indicate that not all went well with the copy of the catalog so make sure to verify all went well. You can use the Get Info option on the two folders. You should see the same number of files/folders for both the copy on the internal drive as well as on the external drive but you can't rely on the byte count because of the possibility of differences between the geometry of the two drives. Hope this all helps!

  • How do I maintain print quality resolution when using both Lightroom and Photoshop?

    I usually edit only in LIghtroom, but in this recent photoshoot, the woman's skirt lining was peeking out and I need to photoshop it out.  When I try to do this and save it in Photoshop, the file size drops dramatically and I'm guessing the picture quality.  I also tried to right-click on the picture in Lightroom and choose "Edit in" photoshop, but Photoshop told me I couldn't use the clone tool unless I changed from 16 bit color depth to 8 bit because it had limited support for 16 bit.  I know there has to be a way to do this.  Any ideas?  By the way, I am using LIghtroom 3.6 and an old Photoshop Elements 5.0.

    I am not completely convinced that your Premiere Elements 7 project settings are not at the core of your problems.
    1. You say that you have 1280 x 720 at X progressive frames per second (probably .mov) from a Canon camera and presumed 1920 x 1080 16:9 .mts @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second (aka 60i). What are you setting as the project preset in the new project dialog? Are you just OK'd it and accepting the default which would be NTSC DV Standard (720 x 480)?
    2. As for versions 11 and 12 helping you out with an automatic project preset, sometimes it does it OK and sometimes it does not. So, that feature is not a given cure all for an inappropriate project preset. Whatever the Premiere Elements version, you need to know the properties of your source media and set the project preset accordingly or make sure the program is doing it right. And, when you have a Timeline with a mixed of formats, you need to set priorities.
    Is the .mov and .mts both affected by the issue or just one?
    Three things to look at:
    a. The quality of just the 1280 x 720 in a Premiere Elements 7 project set for
    NTSC
    HDV
    HDV 720p30
    b. The quality of just the1920 x 1080 in a Premiere Elements 7 project set for
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    Full HD 1080p30
    c. Then look at the quality of both brought into a Premiere Elements 7 project set for
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    Full HD 1080p30
    Please consider. And, if you decide to check out the above, please let us know the outcome.
    Thank you.

    how to send a raw photo from lightroom to photoshop as a smart "object" not a flat "image" so it does not flatten the image but so I still get all the adjustments i have made in lightroom to show up in photoshop?

    Select the image in Lightroom, choose 'Edit in' from Photo menu then choose 'Open as Smart Object in Photoshop'. The file will transfer to Photohop (Ps) complete with Lr applied edits which can be refined in Camera Raw by double clicking on icon in the Ps Layers panel (see screen shot).

  • I need to change the storage hard drive for both lightroom and Photoshop from my C drive to F drive

    How do I change my storage drive from C to F in both lightroom and photoshop as I am running out of space on my C drive?

    Storage Drive ??  Photoshop.   What Platform and OS are you running.
    I use PC therefore Windows. When I thing about Application like Photoshop I know the are going to be files all over the place.  Windows like everything installed on the Boot disk.  I gave up the fight many years ago and let windows have it way when application are installed using an installer.  However besides the application files you have user files and I break user files down into to categories. Windows User files like applications settings, preferences, cashes, etc and user Data Files,  Images, text documents, PDF.   Applications like Photoshop also have add-ons an need swap space as well.  While all Windows default library reside on the C: drive you can add additional storage  to you document, music, picture and video libraries the are not on the c: Most of my user data file are actually on external ESATA drives or USB3 drives.  System files, Application Files, Paging, swapping and backup are on internal SSd and Fast Disk drive. Some of the folder that look like they are on C: are actually shortcut links to folders on other drives.

  • How to make colors looks same in Lightroom and Photoshop?

    The colors of JPGs with sRGB colorspace are displayed differently between Lightroom and Photoshop and other image view applications.
    I edited RAW images in Lightroom and export them to JPG files with sRGB colorspace, but their colors are eventually different from what I saw in LR.
    (I set ProPhoto as the colorspace for my Photoshop.)
    Is there anything I can do to solve this problem? Or maybe to reduce the color difference?
    What is the best I can do to manage colors for those images that I want to share on the internet?
    Thank you !!!

    If colours look different between two colour managed applications such as LR and PS then you have either not calibrated your monitor at all or are using a corrupt monitor profile.
    If the former you require a calibration device, such as a Spyder (lots of other around). If the second then re calibrate.
    In the meantime you can set your monitor to use a colour space such as sRGB as a profile. This is not a solution, it is a temporary fix. Using a colour space as a monitor profile is not colour management, but will at least make the colour appear the same on your monitor.
    There are some useful links concerning colour management and LR here you may wish to read.
