Lightroom with old Mac laptops?

I am looking to purchase my first version of Adobe Lightroom for my Mac laptop. I know some of the new versions dont work with old laptops, and was wondering how this works when you go to buy the software. i currently have a Mac OS X Version 10.5.8 , what version of Lightroom can i get and how do i get it? Lightroom 4 and 5 will not work. You will need Lightroom 3 to work with 10.5.8 provided your laptop meets the rest of the specs.

You may want to check to make sure the clip hasn't been moved back and forth between wide screen and standard aspect ratios; sometimes a combination of letterboxing and pillarboxing can lead to a black frame "windowbox" when playing the final video. You may find the following article helpful:

Macbook pro compatibility with old mac software!??

Hello! I just got my Macbook pro, and i wanted to know if there was any way to get my old games from my oldschool PowerMac from like 1994 to play on it......it says its not compatible...and that makes me sad..

If your old games are OS 9 programs, then they will not run on the Intel Macs. There is an emulator called SheepShaver (www.macupdate.com) that will run OS 9. Then there's the Mini vMac that emulates an old Mac Plus.
If it's a PPC application and doesn't work then it simply isn't compatible with Rosetta.

Benefits of 802.11n with old Macs

I have a couple of reasonably old Macs (1.25GHz iMac, 500MHz Powerbook) which seems to be running more slowly these days when going online. I have a network using a Snow Airport and an Airport express which is probably 5 years old now but has been incredibly reliable.
Would upgrading to the latest versions of Airport Extreme and Express give me a substantial benefit with these old machines or is it time to get a new computer?

I'd work with your current network. Even though you are using B/G you still should be pretty quick. I have mine set to N+B/G and my B/G devices outrun my N devices.

Can I share processing with old macs?

Hi i realise that in the documentation it is specified that networked machines that share processing should be g4 or g5 but i wondered if i could use an older computer if it is running osx? I noticed another post that said that there was nothing in the way the processing nodes app is written to mean it will only work on g5 or g4s I wonder has anyone tried this with older macs and is there any point to it?

Thanks Bee, I just like the idea of my old mac helping my new one out. If I was explaining my studio to someone I could then say- "this is the main computer, my powerbook that runs the sequencer and this old computer is used to run a distortion plugin occasionally"

HT5037 iphoto in my new computer doesn't recognize my iPhoto library from my old mac laptop how do i fix it?

I just got a new mac computer to put all my pictures from my old mac, but it wont allow me to open the pictures in the new iphoto. It keeps saying that you need to prepare your library. its need to be upgrated so i did all the steps but still wont work, ive tried a whole bunch of different ways to open it but wont work. What to do with old Macs

I have some old Macs that I need to... uh... I can't say "get rid of" since that sounds too harsh, but, well, for which I need to find good homes. I have a PowerMac 5400/120, an LC 520, a couple SE 30s, a IIci, a Performa 638CD, and a 6112. There are a couple more too, but if I could find someone who wanted these it would be great.
The local waste management outfit takes old computers and recycles them. That will be a last resort, but unless anyone knows of a concrete solution, I will have to bite the bullet and take them to recycle land.
Has anyone else been down this road and can you share specifically what the answer is?

That is the problem. It is now cheaper to buy newer used goods than the shipping and handling of the old. I have explored sending computers to Mexico but customs gets in the way ( in more ways than one ).
One fellow from South Africa went to a Hanford Nuclear site auction and 'ruined' the auction for others by buying up several lots of equipment. He did not realize that acquisition cost was the least of his worries. When queried, he admitted that he did not know who to configure the computers. They also sat in a warehouse.
I would swap IBM stuff for Mac stuff. The IBM guys would spend a day finding drivers for the hard drives. I would plug an external SCSI drive into the back of a Mac and within minutes, I could have the Mac tested and reconfigured. When will the IBM camp ever learn?
A Spokane school district bought $27,000 worth of new computers before getting a bid to hardwire the computers into a network. When they got the bids, someone pointed out that the money for the electricians could be spent on newer wireless computer systems. The computers sat in a warehouse for an entire school year, losing value and becoming even more obsolete before they figured out that they needed to sell off the sets to schools that just wanted one or two units and not a network.
I let kids turn old computers into science projects and then recycle the leftovers.

Hi, I recently acquired an iPhone but I am unable to sync it with my Mac. My Mac is on the 10.4.11 OS X system and it cannot support the newest version of iTunes, which the iPhone apparently only works on. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can sync my phone?

Backwards compatibility with old mac software.

A relative and I want to run some old software that (I'm assuming) would run on Mac os 3.2 or under. There are many possibilities on how to run this program. We could find an old macintosh & run it from there, buy an old version of mac os (possibly 9), or download the old os and run it from a virtualization (as long as its legal). Iv'e done a bunch of research, and noticed from OS X and up, the line of operating systems are coded differently then the older releases. So, in theory, would Mac OS 9 be able to run software from os 3.2 and under?
Optional question:
I understand that apple owns there software, and there agreement says you may run their software on their computers, (thus meaning the software is free, but the disc is not), but does that mean I can download the old operating system off the internet since its free? (or does apple have a copyright?) I want to make sure before I do anything wrong.

At least temporary access to a working older (pre-1998) Macintosh computer is typically required in order to produce floppy disks from downloaded files.
You may want to test whether, for example, System 6.0.8 (on a suitable Mac model) is compatible with the old program. Before you begin at all, it is usually not a bad idea to lock (write-protect) any old floppies, and then make backup copies of them (using a program such as Disk Copy 4.2).

Can't send messages with old .mac/me aliases

Hi, I'm using iCloud on the web because I have an old Powerbook as my primary device. I specifically recall that Apple said that I can continue to use my .mac and .me aliases. This is incredibly important since my business is tied to a particular .mac e-mail alias that I've had since, well, dotmac was around.
It looks like I can receive messages with at least one of these aliases, but I cannot send messages with the alias. The alias does not exist in the alias list pull down menu. I tried adding the alias, but was told I already have too many. Three? Very frustrating! Anybody know what's going on or how to fix it? Thanks!

Try to reset all Skype settings.
Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.
Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.
Restart Skype.
N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

Using Lightroom with the Mac

I currently have a PC with an i7 processor running Lightroom. I am considering buying a MAC. I am wondering if anyone has experience running Lightroom on an iMac or MacBook pro with the i5 intel processor?

This is not iMac _or_ MacBook Pro forum.
What Lightroom appreciates is a super fast PCIe SSD and there the Mac Pro line shines with support for multiple PCIe cards and drive bays though some drive bays are SATA II - having data on an SSD on a PCIe helps.
Mac Pro uses Xeon processors and supports up to 128GB RAM if that helps, and can be configured with 4 to 12 cores.
