Lightroom won't allow import. Program freezes

Is there some way to get lightroom to import? It just freezes and I can get past the import button.

Thanks for the input.
Lightroom allows me to copy TO that location on an import but not import FROM it?  So I'm allowed to import and end up with stuff there, but not allowed to start with it there.  No sense at all in that design.  That's downright restrictive and really offers no particular benefit.  Hey, Lightroom designers ... change that!
This computer is a powerful ultrabook with a 512 SSD which is as big as reasonably and cost-effective available with the addition of a 256 SDXC card to handle the additional extra capacity I need.  Not too many other reasonable options out there.  This computer is constantly on the go and the addition of an external drive hanging off of it simply isn't manageable.
Any other tricks out there?

  • Lightroom 2.7 suddenly won't allow importing

I've been using a legally purchased copy of Lightroom 2 for a couple of years now with no problems, until one day a couple months ago the program won't allow the import of any new photos.
The error message I get says simply "Some import operations could not be performed. Could not copy file(s) to the requested location."
I've tried going through the settings, importing different photos, starting a new catalog, everything I can think of. It's such a bonkers problem, but if anyone has any advice or has heard of anything like this before, I'd be so grateful to hear about it.

    you need your serial number.
    do you have that secured?
if so, you can uninstall and reinstall.  if you do you may as well install lr 5.7.1 directly.,
if not, you can recover using belarc advisor,

it says the old one can't be deleted

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • After Download, Lightroom won't allow me to tag it to my Dock.

When I attempted to do so, it dumped into another Adobe app folder.  After I removed it from the folder, it sill won't allow me to tag it to the dock.

OK, so I figured out that I was trying to tag the folders to the dock and not the programme file.  Having said that, will my Lightroom subscription be messed up because I put the Lightroom programme file in a new folder that isn't identified as the Lightroom folder like the other apps?

  • System Administator won't allow this program to run on Windows Vista

After downloading my upgrade to iTunes 9, a window pops up and says that the system adminitrator will not allow this program to run. The only option on the window was to press "okay". After pressing "okay", all the installation windows closed and I still have my old version of iTunes. Are there security settings on my computer that need to be changed? Apparently I need iTunes 9 in order to download a particular album I was trying to purchase.

  • Lightroom won't allow me to add file during import - only copy

I'm trying to import items to my catalog.  When I choose items from my hard drive that are NOT in dropbox, Lightroom offers me the "add" and "move" options for the files.  When I choose files that are anywhere within dropbox, it only offers the "copy" import functions.  I don't want second copies of these files - I already have them imported into my computer.  It will let me import and copy TO the Dropbox files, but won't just add from them.
One detail (that shouldn't matter, but maybe) ... Windows believes that dropbox is indeed stored on the local hard drive but only through a junction trick within Windows.  The folder is actually on a very large SDXC card permanently resident on the computer.  Windows doesn't even know this as a result of the trick being used - so Lightroom shouldn't care.  Like I said ... Lightroom lets me import and copy TO those locations but when selecting files already there it makes me copy them.  I've been using Photoshop and CR forever and this has worked fine.  Trying to use lightroom for the improved elegance of the CR feature set and the ability to non-desctructively make and save raw level changes but can't tolerate duplication of thousands of raw images.
    Help!

  • Lightroom won't allow me to enter keywords or shoot name in the Import module

Hello... I've seen this before and fixed it, but I don't remember how I did it. Everything looks to be set up properly (I've been using Lr since the 1st public beta), and the destination volume for the DNGs is write enabled. Thanks!

  • Lightroom won't open Import dialog box

Lightroom was working fine, but recently started locking up as soon as I click on import to bring up the import dialog box.  Other than that, lightroom appears to be running fine and zippy, but as soon as I click the button or go through file menu it freezes.  I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on a Core i7 with 8 GB of ram.  Things I have tried are below:
Restoring Windows to before last critical update.
    Uninstalling Antivirus SW
Uninstalling and Reinstalling Lightroom (reinstall was fresh from Creative Cloud to make sure it was the most recent version)
    Creating a new catalog
    Updating HW drivers
Tried with cards/reader/usb devices in and out
Any ideas because my next step is to format the HD and try a fresh install of windows and everything else?
    Thanks,
    Matt

I do not see where you have tried to reset your preferences file. That is much quicker than a reformat:

  • Time Capsule Won't Allow Some Programs to Open

I have a 1TB TC with less than 25GB in one sparse bundle on it. Free space is +/- 930GB. My system is as follows:
eMac 1.25Ghz, 500GB internal drive, 2GB memory, OS X 10.4.11, all updates are current.
3TB of storage connected to the eMac via Firewire 400 for additional storage (video).
1TB Time Capsule connected to the eMac via 1000GB Ethernet.
I had to reformat two of the Video (Firewire) drives and transfered 900GB to the TC. This upload by the way takes greater than 10 times longer than to Firewire disks.
    I reformatted the FW disks.
When I went to do download the files from TC to the video FW disks I started multiple copy processes. As i write this I have 4 going on, 1-152GB, 1-75GB, 1-525GB and 1-69GB.
The problem is that several programs such as Activity Monitor, Empty Trash (on disks not being used for the copy), Preview and Acrobat Professional "hang" or fail to open while the copy is in progress. Now normally I'd wait, however some things such as activity monitor and empty trash I need to use. Since the process takes several days this is not great!
Other programs such as Safari and Mail work fine!
    Any ideas?
    John Schubert

Yeah, I had 8 or 10 copy (transfers) going at once, now I'm down to 4. I do this all the time, however before now I've always used Firewire. Does Ethernet require more processor overhead? It would seem so.
I've been looking at a new Xserve or possibly a recent used Xserve and a rack; this video stuff really eats up hard drives. Saw a rack mount enclosure that holds 12 IDE drives-9TB possible for $749 and has Firewire connectivity. I could put all my existing drives in that and have everything in one place.
Anyway I've go to live with what I've go for now.
    Thanks

  • Iphoto won't allow import to library from previous version

I traded imacs with my sister who lives in the same house and uses the same network as I. I also find saving pages confusing but that's a story for another time. The current problem is trying to import my stuff onto this newer mac os x. Is there a way to import my photos from the older iphoto library into this newer one? I tried via the network and got a message that there was a compatibility problem. Do I really have to save all those pics on a usb and manually transfer??? Say it isn't so, please. Again, compatibility between OS 10.6.4 and OS 10.7.5 is the question. Thank you.

Never import once iPhoto likbrary into another iPhoto library
Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

  • Iphoto shows no photos  and won't allow import, but photos are there in images.  Happened after software upgrade.

How can I get iPhoto working again?

No information so only wild guesses can be made
most common solution is Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library

  • Lightroom doesn't allow me to rename folders containing pictures and videos.

I'm using lightroom version 5.7 on a Windows 8 machine. in the library page Lightroom won't allow me to rename folders that contain video files. Works fine on folders that only contain pictures.
any thoughts on how i solve this?

IMHO you are using the wrong tool/program for renaming folders on your drive. You should use a File Manager program for that. Something like Windows File Explorer. LR is not a File Manager although it does allow you to do certain tasks.
You should set up your image and video folder structure/system long before you import images and videos into LR's Catalog Database.
It may be your humble opinion but is certainly not even close to being on the button. Why do you think it is allowed in Lightroom along with the creation and deletion of folders and files off the HD with Lightroom. Maybe try offering an answer.
OP, do these folders that won't rename also contain images as well as videos? Where are the folders located?? I can't see how Lightroom could cause this as it calls the OS to do this but sometimes weird things happen.
It may pay to remove the Lightroom Preference file as well. A corruption there can result unexpected problems: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroom-41.html

  • How do i get rid of warning popups from FF like FF won't allow this page to open?

Simply put every time I try to open a page Firefox always pops up a warning box that says do I want to allow FF to open this page or some other such nonsensical idiocy! If I didn't want to open the blasted page would I have entered it in the first bloody place? I have my pop ups enabled for all pop ups already and that does not work either. What I want is this- NO WARNINGS FROM FF ABOUT ANYTHING AT ALL!!- How do I accomplish this major miracle? I run Firefox 3.6.16 because FF4 crashes more than 16 does. 16 works like crap too and won't allow imports from IE or Opera, Chrome or Orca or even Cometbird. I cannot file for my unemployment comp unless I can get rid of this pop up and fast! Can anyone help me? Please? Thanks I hope- JKMc/keimanzero

Thanks, Shailendra!I am glad it worked, Thanks for the point Janel. :)
That seems to work for when I run the page through the iSupplier portal. However I noticed during development when I am testing the page on my computer, I am still getting this message? Is there anyway to get rid of it on the client side? I assume that profile is set correctly on the development instance which you are using from JDEV.
Sometimes you need apache bounce to make sure the profile option change come into effect.
    So do a apache bounce.

  • New itunes is destroying my life. It won't allow me to search. As soon as I type a single key in the search field. It freezes, then crashes. WHY??????

It won't allow me to search. As soon as I type a single key in the search field. It freezes, then crashes. WHY??????

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Lightroom 4 and 5 my program constantly freezes while using the crop and straighten tool

In both Lightroom 4 and 5 my program constantly freezes while using the crop and straighten tool with horizontal images. Im running Lightroom on a Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac with 32 GB of memory with OS 10.8.4, this problem has gotten worse and worse to the point where the crop tool is unusable. Please help!

    Alright,
no replies so far! Anyways, here's some more information which is leading me to the conclusion that the bug causing the effect described above is a combination of Apple's SMB implementation of Mavericks and the way Lightroom is actually using SMB network access:
I did another trial by connecting a USB hard drive to the USB port of my router (Netgear). The connection is quite slow, but moving one of the folders in question (see my 1st post above) to the shared drive connected to the Router made Lightroom on my Windows machine to see the photos again, when I told Lightroom where to find the moved folder!
Everything was working as expected, on the Windows machine again! Moving the folder back again to the Mac Mini fileshare was causing Lightroom on the PC to get blind again for the pictures trying to sync or import. However, accessing and modifying a photo was possible again, like it was before the trial. So it's only the sync and import function having a problem!
I also did some trial in re-building ACLs and access rights on the file server with no luck. So there's got to be a functionality in sync and import of Lightroom which is using a certain SMB feature which is not supported by Apple's SMB implementation!
    Any thoughts or hints?
    Thanks!
