Lightroom won't open catalog

Hello all:
Please help. New to this forum. Using Lightroom 2.2 on Mac.
I had to do a restart after a freeze and then I got the message:
The lightroom catalog named Lightroom 2 Catalog can not be opened because another application already has it opened. Quit the other copy of Lightroom before trying to launch.
I can open my first Catalog but not the Catalog in question (that I had just loaded with several hundred images). I reloaded lightroom program and reinstalled (Catalog.Ircat and Catalog Previews. irdata) from my backup drive. I do have the images backed up on my backup drive but not in my Catalog.
Any suggestions as to how I can reopen the Catalog or is it fried?
Thanks
George

Hello again:
Further note:
I am able to work using the Catalog in question on my backup drive but when I attempt to
work on my computer (main drive) after I reloaded ircat and irdata I get the "catalog can not be opened" message.
Am I going to have to create a new catalog and reload all the images so I can use them on
my computer and not have to access the backup for same???
Any ideas, help, suggestions??
George

Lightroom won't open, says it's open in another application..

Depending on your operating system, use Windows Explorer or Finder to open the folder containing your catalog. In that folder you will find a file with the same name as your catalog, but with the .lock extension. That file needs to be deleted, and then you will be able to start Lightroom.

  • Lightroom won't open on my mac

I am attempting to activate Lightroom on a mac. I've used it on this computer in the past and it suddenly stopped working. I deleted the file and installed the product again. The installation went through, but Lightroom won't open. I tried deactivating the product before deleting, but there was no option. What am I missing?

  • Loaded 5.7.1 now Lightroom won't open

loaded Lightroom 5.7.1 now Lightroom won't open?

I just upgraded to 5.7.1 and get the same on OS X 10.10.1. The messages is
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 cannot be opened because of a problem.
I tried deleting Lightroom and reinstalling, just the same.
I tried deleting the preference file in $HOME/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Lightroom5.plist
again crashes just the same, and Lightroom crashes before recreating the file.
    Tried a reboot. No joy.

  • Lightroom 4 is blank and won't open catalog

Hello, I am a new in this comunnity. I have been using Lightroom 4 for the past  year on my Mac but I did not use it for the past month. Yesterday when I tried to open it again, it opens but it is blank, no thumbnails or anything. It does not allow me to change modules. and when I go to "open catalog" and click on the folder my lightroom just quickly blicks but it continues to be blank. I read some forums on here and I deleted the .lock folder that was underneath my catalog in the finder, but nothing changed.
I did not find this problem that I am descibing in any forum, any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not very tech savvy, I wasn't even the one that installed lightroom on my computer so please bare with me
    thank you in advance

Have you tried to Reset the iPod -
Toggle the HOLD switch, make sure you don't see any red at the switch.
Press Menu and Center button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON, then select your prefered language.
If you are on Mac, then the problem is not iPod resource hogging by the Antivirus.
Yours is most probably hardware due to a dying iPod Hardisk or Battery.
    Battery
On standalone, (not using the iPod docking station)  how long does the battrey last? Should be 36 hours on full charge, when new, but if it has been on the Docking station for 2 years, the battery would be at its max recharge cycle, and would last a few hours only or less.
    Hardisk
Here is a link on doing disk diagnostic posted by tt2.

For hardware issues like battery or hardisk, the community can't help you, so you got to bring it in to Apple or 3rd Party vendor for hardware replacement.
    Have a nice day!

  • Just installed Lightroom 4.4 and now Lightroom won't open.

I have been working with Lr 4.3 and just upgraded to 4.4. Now Lr won't open when I click on the icon. How do I fix this?

I have copied this from another post I made in the forum see if helps you.
When Lightroom is open it creates a file with the same name as the catalog with an extension .lock (LOCK) alongside the catalog file.
This lock file prevents any other access to the catalog.
If Lightroom is closed normally the .lock file is automatically deleted. However if Lightroom closes unexpectedly e.g. loss of power, crash then the file may remain in place preventing Lightroom from opening the catalog.
With Lightroom closed go to the folder where your Catalog files reside, by default this is in your User > My Pictures> Lightroom. If there is a .lock file present delete the file (do not delete the .lrcat file. See the screen capture.
If you have found a .lock file and deleted it, then double click on the actual Catalog file and see if it opens Lightroom.

  • LR5 won't open catalog

    Hi,
I was working on an LR5 catalog yesterday (which I unfortantely didn't back up) and today it won't open.
I don't even get an error message or a repair option, all LR does, is open a small grey window.
I've read through a few threads, but I couldn't find anything to help with my problem. LR is leaving the lock file after I close it down, but even after deleting it and restarting the computer LR won't open the catalog (which is on an external harddrive).
This is what it looks like
When I try to copy the lr file I get an unexpected error code -50, followed by another error message saying "one or more required items can't be found" code -43.
    I run LR 5.2 on OS X.
Thanks for any help!! I'm desperate by now...

I think those error messages that you're getting when you try to move/copy the file are key.  If the operating system can't access the files, then Lightroom certainly won't be able to do so.  What kind of external hard drive?  I've seen -50 errors from a damaged hard drive enclosure before.  You could try some kind of disc rescue software, but I wouldn't trust that drive again, and I'd get everything copied off there asap.

  • After a power outage, Lightroom won't open.  It says the catalog is not writable and will not open

How do I get lightroom to open?  It says the catalog is not writable and will not open?

No, Jim.  I did not know where the backups were!  I've been researching this online, on here, and asking everyone I knew that used lightroom if they had any idea how I could get lightroom to open again. I checked out "permissions" too. Finally, I went to the lightroom folder which was in my PICTURES library and double clicked on "Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrdata" and Lightroom opened up.  I hadn't backed up the images since the 24th so all of those that were edited since then went back to being unedited.  I had already exported them to another folder so I don't have to do anything to those anyway.  Is this lrdata the backup?  I had a couple of people tell me to go to Lightroom and do this and do that, but I couldn't open Lightroom up to do anything at all!  After getting Lightroom back, I got the 5.5 update and everything seems to be back to normal.  I appreciate your help  AND your kindness to someone that hasn't got a clue about computers or how this software works.

  • Lightroom won't load catalog, application won't launch

After using my Lightroom catalog and images on an external drive for several years, suddenly the application won''t load either today. Instead, I get this error message:
"...Lightroom Catalogs can not be opened on network volumes, removable storage, or read only volumes..."
Lightroom appears to be mis-identifying my external drive, won't let me access my files, and won't even launch! Prior to this, the Lightroom Library button has not been appearing in the right-hand menu since the most recent update. The Library has remained accesible from the pull-down Window menu though. Help!
Mac OS X v10.7.5; Lightroom 4.4; Latest versions of CS 6 Apps and Acrobat v10.1.7.

I fixed the hard drive recognition issue myself by rebooting. I'll probably try to re-run the Lightroom 4.4 installer to fix the missiing menu button. ANy ideas?

  • Lightroom won't open - I get an error message....is open in another application.....It isn't and I can't progress from there. It allows me to open a different catalogue such as April 2015 but that has only 2 photo's in it ? Any suggestions ?

    Can anyone help ?

    1. Open Windows Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac).
    2. Open the folder that contains your Lightroom catalog.
    3. In that folder, look for a file with the .lock extension. If your catalog is named Lightroom 5 catalog.lrcat then the file will be     named Lightroom 5 catalog.lock.
    4. If you find such a file, highlight the file and delete it. You do that by pressing the delete key.
    5. Close Windows Explorer or Finder.
    6. Start Lightroom as you normally would.
In case you don't know where your catalog is located, if you are using Windows it will be located in Pictures\Lightroom. I'm not sure what the path is for the Mac.

  • Lightroom won't open/launch

When I try to launch lightroom 4.3, I get an error saying, "the lightroom catalog named lightroom 4 catalog cannot be opened because another application already has it open. Quit the other copy of lightroom before trying to launch." I've opened task manager and lightroom is not running, but I keep getting this error message. Please help!

Use your operating system to search for files ending with *.LRCAT, that is the catalog file; delete the .lock file in whatever folder it is in

  • Lightroom Won't Open - Activation Just Loops

Would greatly appreciate some expert help with this.  I've tried to use Adobe Chat, but have been kept waiting for hours without any response.
I purchased the boxed version of Lightroom 3 from Adobe some years back, installed it on my iMac.  It was working at one time, though I did not use it much.  (I also purchased CS5.5 creative suite, parts of which I use all the time.)
Recently I tried to open Lightroom 3 but the program wouldn't open.  It asked me for my serial number.  So, I entered it and filled out the registration (again), and tried to open the program. Clicking on the icon only brought up the window asking if I want to buy the program or else enter the serial number.  So I repeated the process.  Same result.  Click on the Lightroom icon and the same window pops up, asking for the serial number.
I can't get past this loop.
Can anyone tell me what steps to follow in order to get Lightroom working again?
Thanks in advance for your help.

If no one suggests anything better, or the problem clears up, my best suggestion would be uninstall and reinstall. This should be a fairly quick operation, and it won't affect your catalogue.

  • Lightroom won't open TIFF or JPEG files to CS5

Recently upgraded to a new iMac. This morning when I tried to open a TIFF file from Lightroom 3.4.1 into Photoshop CS5 I got a message saying: Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at /Volumes/Drobo1/Photos/2011/02-14-2011 Yellowstone/Yellowstone-0641-Edit.tif for editing.
    It will not be opened.
The only way Lightroom will open a TIFF or JPEG image to CS5 is if I tell it to open a copy of the image with Lightroom Adjustments. If I say I want to edit the original or a copy, it won't do it.
If I go into CS5 and open the TIFF there, it works fine, so the problem doesn't seem to be with CS5.
Lightroom WILL open RAW files into CS5 without any error message.
I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8, which was upgraded yesterday and am wondering if that's the problem since I could open TIFFs on the new computer before.
    Phil

Do you have full permissions to the DROBO folder the files are in?  I'm a Windows person so I can't tell you how to check this, but upgrading a OS and then things not working might be related to permissions where the files were created with a profile on the previous OS.

  • LR 3.5 won't open catalog after hard drive crash/recovery

The catalog and the rest of my files were restored to the new HD installed in my WinXP laptop by computer repair techs. After I reinstalled LR, I get the dread "LR cannot use the catalog named "Lightroom 3 Catalog" because it is not writable..." There is not an lrcat.lock file next to it and the permissions for the catalog file are open. I tried opening the last back up catalog before it but I get the same result. The program will however open an empty catalog I had made eariler but not used. I tried switching from empty catalog to the problem catalog but I still get the same result. The catalog is in the LR folder in My Pictures as it should be. I can't believe that one file of thousands would be corrupt after the recovery.I'm out of answers. Does anyone out there have an solution I've missed? Thanks in advance!
    Echo

Thanks, Ian. Are you referring to something different from the information I mentioned about the permissions for the file being open? They are not restricted. There are no check marks in the General tab. I tried the back up files but they don't work either. I'm getting a little desparate. I do't want to re-catalog 20,000 images!

  • Lightroom4 won't open catalog from ext hardrive-mac

i just downloaded and installed lr4 on my imac. i had the beta and everything was working fine. my catolog, previews, and images all on an external hard drive. i go to open lr4 and it says "Lightroom cannot open the catalog named “A_Hazlewood Lightroom Catalog” located on volume “Photos” because Lightroom cannot save changes to this location."  why is this? the beta was working great. i have not changed anything. help?

It's a permission issue...on the extern drive are you sure you as admin and read/write? If you Command i on the drive, what are your settings? Unless you have a real good reason, I would set the drive to Ignoreownership on this volume. You might also to a fix permissions on the main drive using Disk Utlility.
