Lightroom won't recognize directories or import RAW

i am unable to import RAW photographs that are already on an external drive, imported by another program via a netbook in the field. Gives no error message, just won't recognize the directories. Will recognize JPEG though. Taken with a Canon xsi. Lightroom is on an HP laptop with plenty of oomph. Have been using Lightroom v. 3.4.1 with no prior problems for thousands of photos, now all of a sudden...????
just completed installation of LR v. 3.5 and same issue: unresolved.
any help would be MUCH appreciated!

the external drive is an WD Elements that connects via USB. The directories are fine on the drive. The raw photos show as .cr2, but without a thumbnail. I'm not sure if the other program changes the file names... No -- they don't appear to be any different than the ones LR imports fromt the card...
apologies: the directories that lightroom will not recognize also contain jpegs that don't come up either. Sorry!
thanks ;-)

  • Aperture 2 won't recognize Canon G10 CR2 RAW files

The Canon G10 just came out and I got one!! But Aperture will not recognize the CR2 files that it makes. Any idea how to make this work?

If you can get your hands on a copy of Canon's Digital Photo Professional it may include the proper converters that you can use for now.
For EOS utility to run the camera must be connected and running and I'm not sure the P&S cameras are recognized by that utility.
I'm having trouble with G9 CR2 files on Aperture 2.1.2. When I import them they come in at 1:1 aspect ration meaning the preview is forced to fill the preview screen so all images look a little wide and verticals look really, really stretched out.
When I go in and selected Apple -- Camera Default in the adjustments palettes it pops into the proper 4:3 ratio.
Any way to get that as the default? I've tried selected all and hitting the Camera Default but only one image at a time is updated. Driving me crazy

  • Iphoto or Lightroom won't recognize iphone

Trying to import new photos from iphone 5, but now neither LR5 nor iPhoto will recognize it. Haven't had this problem before. Tried restarting everything, changed port from USB router to the computer, but nothing. On iPhone have checked Photostream on. Usin iOS 7, and on Mac Pro have Mavericks. However, iTunes does recognize the phone as usual, so don't think it's a cable problem.

Discovered the solution to this problem. Called Apple Tech and they eventually figured out that my copy of Mavericks probably didn't install right. So went into the Recovery mode on restart, re-installed Mavericks (or the portion of it that Recovery does) and now my iphone is recognized just as before. No more problems.

  • Lightroom won't read SONY RAW files

I've upgraded to 1.2, installed it once and then again to see if I could repair the problem. I am shooting a SONY A700 and Lightroom won't recognize my RAW files on the card or when I copy them to my hard drive. LR does see jpegs on the card when I shoot them, and yes I have checked the box that says to treat RAW and jpegs as separate files.
If I put only jpegs on the card it reads them, if I only put RAW files on it says no images on card.
    Any suggestions?

To be honest I have not tried looking at my older MRW files as I have not used my 7D in awhile. I will look tonight to see if I can read them in LR, but I'm not qualified to speak on whether the information LR is reading is correct or detailed enough. I'll just see if I can edit them to my satisfaction. I don't get into the mechanics other than to do what I need to improve my photos.
My original problem was getting the Adobe downloader to bring in ARW files, but now I just pull them off the disk and have disabled the downloader, which works fine for ARW.
Just read the previous question and see it was answered on MRW files. I have been editing ARW raw in lightroom and it seems to work with all functionality. I think the program is indispensible to my A700 and they work wonderfully together.

  • Importing Raw File

I have a Olumpus Pen 3 camera which does raw oinages with the .ORF suffiix. Olympus is not one of the cameras mentioned in the camera profile of Lightroom 5.  so when I import raw images they are not reciognizable for editing. I need to go through a long process of changing the raw images into another format in preview (such as jpeg) and then re import them into lightroom 5 so i can edit them.
Is there way I can avoid this step and be able to right away edit the raw file with the .ORF suffix with out converting it?

What is the exact model of your camera? Is it the Olympus E-P3, or something else? If it is the Olympus E-P3, then Lightroom should be able to import and work with these RAW files.
What is the exact error you are seeing when you try to import the photos?

  • Lightroom (4.3) won't recognize the file type while importing from Canon 5d Mark iii

Anyone mind helping me trouble shoot why my Lightroom (4.3) won't recognize the file type of my Canon 5D Mark iii ?
I have seen this in a couple other threads but none of those suggestions worked for me. I am also a Mac user.

    The above contradicts with this:

I am downloading images through the Canon EOS Utility manager and have to import the photos in a folder into Lightroom.
So my reading of that is that you ARE importing Raw files from the 5D3 into Lightroom, but having to use a roundabout route to do so. Is that correct? If so, how are you trying to import when you "cannot import raw files into Lightroom", are you using a card reader or direct camera attachment? Have you tried both methods? And what happens when you do try?

  • Why won't Lightroom 2.3 suddenly not import RAW files?

Why can't I import RAW files into Lightroom 2.3? I've imported them for years, until today, after I installed a Canon  Pixma MX860 multi-purpose printer. Would this affect Lightroom? Now I get a Lightroom message: "The files could not be written." Tried to import from Canon 5D on a CF card and from a Panasonic Lumix on an SD card many times. Same result. I can pull the RAW files individually off the cards into Photoshop CS3 RAW window and adjust them, but can't on Lightroom. It won't automatically import the files and won't take them manually. Am using a PC with XP Professional. Any thoughts?

Are you sure it's the same problem as that user had?
What error message are you getting when you try to import a raw file?
    What camera?
    What version of LR?
    What computer and operating system?
Did your ability to import raw files just suddenly stop, or have you never been able to import them?

Lightroom does not recognize the raw files (necs?) coming in from my Nikon AW1. It loads them as jpegs. I know it is possible to update Lightroom so it knows my Nikon but I can't get it to work.

  • Lightroom doesn't recognize ACR 5.5 and my D300s RAW images

Lightroom 2.4 does not recognize my Nikon D300s RAW images. I downloaded ACR 5.5 and after install both Bridge and Photoshop CS4 handle the D300s RAW images but my Lightroom 2.4 will not import them saying that it is a damaged or unrecognized file type. You don't want Camera Raw 5.5 (unless you want to use Photoshop CS4), you want the DNG Converter 5.5 which can convert the D300 raws into DNGs that are compatible with Lightroom 2.4. The next version of Lightroom (presumable 2.5) will have the support built in without needing the DNG Conversion...

  • LR won't import raw files shot in monochrome

I just shot a wedding. Half the images were shot in color, the other half were shot in monochrome(black and white). upon importing into lightroom only the color images would import. With the black and white files I got the error message saying that the files could not be read. I was shooting with a canon rebel t2i (550D), importing into lightroom 3.2 on a mac OS X.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Can you post a link to one of the RAW files that won’t import, so others can try?  If you don’t have your own website, upload it to www.yousendit.com sending the file to your own e-mail, then post the download link it provides.
Otherwise, have you tried LR 3.5, in case a bug that affects the situation has been fixed?

  • Lightroom 5.7 won't recognize jpgs

I recently updated to 5.7 and updated my RAW plugin and now my lightroom will not recognize jpgs as being in a folder.  The jpgs that are there are gone from the list and then they show as "missing" from library when I try to synch the folder.  I try to locate the files and there is nothing showing via lightroom - however I am in the desktop folder and they are there.     I have renamed them and re-synched - that works, but then it loses that newly named file again and I am back at square 1.  This is making me totally crazy because I don't know why it is not recognizing that these files are in the folder.
    ?? Suggestions?

    Hi,
You really need to provide a little more information such as operating system, memory etc.
Typically a error like this is happening because a background process is executing and interfering with available RAM, not enough virtual memory (Windows), out of date HW drivers or just a incomplete install.
Or, one of the biggest problems is add-ons in internet browsers.
Or, another Lightroom problem, insufficient permissions on the directory where you are importing image files to.
Please provide a little more info.
