Please advise.

Did it run before on the very same machine?
What happens if you try to open a backup catalog?
Version of LR?
OS and version?

  • Lightroom 5.5 update - unexpected error opening catalog - help needed?

    Hi,
I updated Lightroom 5.5 to 5.6 (Windows 7). Now, unfortunately I cannot start the LR program at all. The message: "unexpected error opening catalog" pops up. And all the subsequent Options do not work. The Option "choose a Different Catalog" is useless, and the "try again" just as much. And "Exit" seems to work, but increases my frustration.
    Any suggestions?
    Andy

I had the same issue - after installing Lightroom 5.6 (64 bit version, Windows 8.1) worked for a couple weeks, then I got the unexpected error message this morning. I was going to install a previous version, like 5.5, but it appears Adobe released 5.7 last week so I downloaded the new one and I'm up and running here now! Wish you the best.

OK, restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one or more is corrupt. To restart in Safe Mode when you hear the start up tone hold down the Shift Key until you see a progress bar. Let it fully boot then restart normally and test.
Also I am assuming you have checked Finder - Preferences  - General and see what boxes are checked in "Show these items on desktop." You can also mount an item in Disk Utility, simply highlight it and then look in the File menu for Mount.....

  • Lightroom: LR4 won't open - Unexpected error opening catalog

I cannot open LR4. I get an, "Unexpected error opening catalog. The catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error." This occurred after a WIN7 update failed.  It restored the system to an earlier version.  In doing so, it also reverted LR4.2 to LR4.1.  I have seen other threads to open a different catalog and/or create a new.  The problem is that once I go to "Choose a different catalog", I get the Windows screen where I can select my backup.  I select the backup catalog and click "Open".  The window goes away, but the underlying LR "Select a Catalog" window still only shows 1 catalog to open.....my original catalog.  The backup doesn't show up in the list.  (The backup is not a network drive and it is not read-protected.)
I then try the "Create a new catalog", get the Windows screen, enter a new name and click "Save".  The same thing happens.  The Windows screen goes away and the LR "Select a Catalog" window still shows the orignal catalog in the list.  Thus, I cannot create nor choose a different catalog.  Am I doing something incorrectly?
    Thanks.

Try right-clicking on the LR icon and selecting "run as administrator". This fixed the problem for me. I think the problem recurs every time Windows gets and update. You can also set LR to always run with admin privaleges on the properties window.

  • I am getting error message: Unexpected error opening catalog.  What should I do

Lightroom started acting slightly strange, not displaying certain images in the folder I was working on, for example.  I shut it down, but when I tried to start it again, it would not open using my normal catalog, and I had the message, "Unexpected error opening catalog".  It does let me open a different catalog, however.  What can I do to get my catalog working again?

  • Unexpected error opening catalog after accidentally deleting and recovering catalog file

I deleted my Lightroom folder by mistake. I have recovered the Lightroom 5 catalog .Ircat file using recovery software but when I try to open it I get the message "Unexpected error opening catalog". Please help!
I have tried creating a new catalog and importing the .ircat file but I then get told that it is not a valid lightroom catalog.

    Hi Alex,

  • Open Session: unexpected error

    Hi everybody,
I'm using BO XI R3.0 and since couple of last days I'm having problem with opening Universe Designer. The message I'm getting is "Open session: unexpected error". This happens after I provide user name and password for the access to the system.
Does anyone know the solution to the problem beside uninstalling Client tools etc. (I already did that) because the same happens when I want to open Desktop Intelligence, Translation Manager, etc.
    Ivan

In addition to my previous question, I have another query. I am trying to create a macro to rename, hide/show and change some more properties of universe objects. Below is the code to log on to designer and open the required universe
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    Set DesignerApp = New Designer.Application
        DesignerApp.Visible = True
        Call DesignerApp.LogonDialog
        Set Univ = DesignerApp.Universes.Open
        DesignerApp.Visible = False
        Set Wksht = ThisWorkbook.Worksheets("Objects")
        Wksht.Unprotect
        Range("Objects").ClearContents
        Call GetObjectInfo(Univ.Classes, 1)
        Range("Objects").Resize(Wksht.UsedRange.Rows.Count - 1, 5).Name = "Objects"
        Range("Objects").Columns("H:L").Value = Range("Objects").Columns("B:F").Value
        Wksht.Protect
        DesignerApp.Quit
        Set DesignerApp = Nothing
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
What happenns is that after I log on using my macro, if I try to log on to designer again I get the "Open Session: unexpected error" error. If I delete the LSI folder on my local machine, then I can log on fine. but everytime I use the macro I get the error afterwards. I am logging onto a SAP system.
    Any help on this one?

  • Lightroom won't open, says it's open in another application?Lightroom won't open, says it's open in another application?

Lightroom won't open, says it's open in another application..

Depending on your operating system, use Windows Explorer or Finder to open the folder containing your catalog. In that folder you will find a file with the same name as your catalog, but with the .lock extension. That file needs to be deleted, and then you will be able to start Lightroom.

I can't open my itunes application, keep getting message - the itunes application could not be opened, an unexpected error occurred (13010) Please help

Try removing the Genius database.  In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.

  • Unexpected error opening catalog" trying to open a catalog. worked fine 2 days ago. Mac Pro LR5.3

i am getting "unexpected error opening catalog" message when opening a catalog that worked fine 2 days ago. Other catalogs open on the same drive Mac pro LR5.3  please help.... Lots of worked had gone into that catalog
    thanks

Hmm, that is more of a problem!
Ok, couple of initial things to try:
    1.  Move the catalog to another drive, and try opening it from there.  It's a long shot...
    2.  Create a new catalog and go to File menu > Import from Another Catalog.  Navigate to the problem catalog and try to import a small chunk at a time.

my ipod wont restore says an error occured (1)?

    Hi missnaughty06,
Thanks for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
It seems like your iPod can't be restored due to an "error 1" message, and you've found the article regarding resolving issues between iTunes and security software.
Be sure to follow the steps in that article to make sure that iTunes can communicate with your iPod. If you continue to see the error message, this article on restore errors suggests contacting Apple Support at this point:
    Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

  • Reimaged G4 with Tiger 10.4 not able to create initial user. It says Unexpected error, unable to create. I can not go any further. Help.

I'm have trouble with a new install of Tiger 10.4. In the very beginning after entering my location and info, the next step is to create a user account. This is the furthest I get. It says Unexpected error has occured. ( Unable to create standard user) The only option is to select quit and it first boot up steps start all over again. Any info would help.
    Thanks

Hi, I think you may need to start over.
      1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
       2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
       3. Click the Erase tab.
       4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
       5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
       6. Highlight the drive, select Partition Tab, then Format type... MacOS Extended Journalled, select the Security Options button, choose Zero Out Data, Erase... after completion hopefully you'll be able to install.
