Lightroom wont optimize after accidental computer shutdown during import

My computer was accidentally shut off during import of photos into Lightroom.  Now, when Lightroom is turned on, all photos are gray boxes.  I am currently trying to optimize the catalog, but it is taking over an hour. help

Try, when you’re not running LR, deleting your previews folder, in case it is corrupted.  The LR previews are stored in a FOLDER called catalog-name Previews.lrdata.  You can just delete the entire folder.  DON’T DELETE the .LRCAT file which is your LR catalog.

  • I am unable to sync photos to iPad. My computer shutdown during the photo optimisation process

I am using the latest software and updates on both my iPad 2 and windows 7 32 bit laptop. I have reinstalled the latest edition of iTunes, and yet I still cannot do a synch to my iPad 2 as the computer shutdown during photo optimisation.
I have even reinstalled windows so there is nothing else I can think of.
Does anyone know how I can get photos on my iPad without making windows shutdown... It's driving me mad. Seems to be ok with my iPod and iphone4, it's just the iPad that's causing the trouble. Help me PLEASE!!!

Do you mean crashes (as in some software problem) or turns off completely (hardware issue) ?
If it's crashing then it's a different problem and you'd be better starting a new thread. If it's hardware then the same things apply as have already been mentioned above.
It's clear that iPhoto (at least the Mac version, I don't use Windows) puts a lot of load on the processor - more than most people ever do at other times. If the thermal management is not up to scratch, the processor will overheat, and the machine will just switch off without warning. I agree it's "rather annoying" In programming terms it's the right thing to to, run parallel threads and fully utilise the resources available - you don't worry about overheating the processor since that should not happen in a properly designed and built system.
So check your BIOS settings to make sure any settings there are correct. If the machine is still under warranty then take it back to the supplier and tell them the thermal management isn't right. Other than that, you may have to start investigating the hardware - is the heatsink and fan up to the job, is the headsink properly mated to the processor, and so on. I'd not suggest getting into this yourself unless you know what you are doing - find someone that does since it's easy to make matters worse.
As I mentioned above, at first I was doing photos in small batches (or or two events or folders at a time) and allowing the processor to cool down in between (you need a utility that will tell you the core temperature to do this). This is a right PITA though. Then I found there is a utility in Apple's dev tools for turning off cores for testing - turning off a core made things run more slowly but meant that the processor didn't overheat and I could just leave it. It may be worth looking in your BIOS and/or OS to see if there's something similar - or a means of turning down the clock speed.

  • Problems with HP Probook 6475b after swiching computer off during full system restore

Can anyone help?I have a problem with my HP Probook after it was accidently switched off during the running of an inbuilt recovery disc to restore the computer to its original instalation. When I switch it on now it goes straight to a message that says 'Windows is loading files' and after a short while comes up with a screen which says: Windows 7RECOVERY DISC***WARNING***You are about to erase your hard drive. click the greencheck box to proceed. Performing this action will restorethe computer back to it's original Windows installaltion there is the choice of three check boxes - one green with a tick, one red with a cross and one c:\ When I click the green box after about 5 seconds  there is a dialogue box entitled ' Restore Error Message'and in the box it states Error 1, with a box to click that says 'ok' If I click the ok box it returns back to the same message that Windows is loading files and goes through the same loop.I cannot get past this point. If I click the c:\  box it goes to  a black dialogue box which has the following: Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]X=\windows\system32> If I put sfc/scannow the message is as follows: There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete.  Restart Windows and run sfc again Can anyone advise how I can get out of this 'Error 1' loop and complete the system restore?

I do have a backup of the files, but the biggest issues come with the computer shutting down. I try to save frequently, but it makes it very tedious when I have to wait for the computer to reload, relaunch photoshop and redo my work. These frequent interruptions are hurting my productivity.

  • Lightroom wont load after new update

Hi thanks in advance for your help
I am a CC member and have been using lots of CC programs perfectly until this new 2014 update. (And its fantastic ) Everything else seems to load and work fine except Lightroom.  I click to run the program and get nothing at all.  I have tried running from taskbar, start menu, and from within system files.  I have tried to run as admin.  I have rebooted several times, I have uninstalled and reinstalled and nothing makes any difference.  It will not load.  Can anyone help pretty please?  I am running the latest windows 8 64 bit OS. And it was working fine before the update but I can not get back to the previous version x

Thanks for all your help.  Actually everything I read didn't work, but after working on this all night, I came up with a solution myself and it is now all working perfectly.  Here's what I did using trial and error, doing the below steps in different orders, eventually the below procedure worked.
    1. Sign out of CC (Top right Cog, Preferences, sign out)
    2. Open C:/ Show all hidden files
    3. Delete all content of folder SLStore (win8 - C:\ProgramData\Adobe) AND all content of folder SLCache (win8 - C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe)
    4. Open all other software I use, photoshop, illustrator, muse etc etc and log in and accept terms etc
    5. Open CC Desktop and log in
    6. Download and install new Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.5 2014
    7. Once installed it runs perfectly

  • My computer shutdown during update to ios 5.. iphone is frozen.. with the apple logo..

hi... my phone is now frozen, cant do anything.. itunes dont recognize the device... any advice how to restart?

With iTunes open on computer, connect iPhone with USB cable. Hold both Home and Power buttons until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. Usually about 20 seconds time. Restore iPhone Firmware.

  • 3G wont synch after reloading computer

My computer caught a virus so i had to scrub it and reload everything. But now i cant get my iphone to synch with my itunes. Everytime I try to synch the two i get the warning that everything in my phone will be replaced by whats in my itunes library. the problem is that my itunes library is empty. I have no idea how to get my music off of my phone and back onto my itunes. Help!!!

iTunes itself can't handle two way sync. You can use a third party tool like iPhone Explorer though.

  • Lightroom 5 not loading .xmp sidecar files during import

I have a folder of RAW images that also contain .xmp sidecar files that I am trying to import into Lightroom. The images import with no issues but it appears that Lightroom is ignoring the sidecar files since none of the metadata they contain are appearing in the catalog. I am seeing the same behavior when I take the same RAW/.xmp files and first run them through the DNG converter and then import the DNGs into Lightroom (again, no metadata). I have tried to update the catalog by both writing to file as well as reading from file but nothing I do will get the metadata read into the catalog. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks...

    Rob Cole wrote:
Whoops - I just realized you had also tried force-reading metadata after import.
If that doesn't work, then either the xmp sidecar files were not named properly, or something in them Lr not liking (presumably)
If you can make a copy available (of original photo file + xmp sidecar, e.g. zipped) I can have a look.
PS - Lr will only read DNG sidecar if newer than DNG (and hence embedded xmp).
    Rob
Thanks Rob. New to these forums so still trying to feel my way through it. I tried both using the context menu as well as the metadata menu option for a selected image with no success. I have tried this with an image I had previously converted to a .DNG and the metadata does not load into the catalog for those either. However, I can't determine that the .DNG version had the metadata loaded or not. I don't know enough about the file structure or have the tools to peer inside to verify. The .zip file is 12MB in size so I am unable to insert the RAW file but I can't figure out how to attach to .xmp file either. Will continue to research to see how I can do that...

  • My computer froze during import

I had 250+ images to import. I made the stupid mistake of trying to load safari during the import, and saw that it was lagging. I walked away from the computer for about 20 minutes and came back to see that both programs had frozen. I made stupid mistake number 2 by force quitting safari. I was able to get onto iPhoto, but it was stuck on the screen that said that it was finalizing import. I made stupid mistake number 3 by force quitting iPhoto (I had done it before and it never gave me any problems). I now have 8 images on my camera, and none on my iPhoto.
Is there any possible way to get my pictures back??
    please help!

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Crash at launch after removing USB drive during import

I was importing a large set of photos and yanked the USB drive out where the Photos library lives by mistake.
Now the Photos app crashes a few seconds every time after launch with the following exception:
Assertion failure in -[__RKMasterMetadataHelper initWithMaster:], /SourceCache/PhotoApp/PhotoApp-209.52/lib/redrock/Database/Models/mutators/RKMa sterMutator.m:58
    Invalid parameter not satisfying: master
    abort() called
Since abort() is being called, I assume that somebody wrote the code to catch this error but considered that it's a rare enough of an edge case not to bother properly recovering from the error.
I've searched the documentation but could not find anything. Is there a way to repair a Photos library?
I've already verified the disk and the volume. No errors could be found.

That did not help - BUT
Although i do not have my Wacom Cintiq UX21 anymore - The Mac had leftovers from an uninstalled driver.
As a got todays new driver from Wacom - it solved the problem.....!!??
I don use the Cintiq, but a new driver fixed the Illustrator problem !!

  • Error during Import (-2126)

I have imported Quicktime files from my computer into iMovie before (clips orginally from my digital camera) with no problem. However, when I go to import now I get the message "Can't open file "xxxx.AVI"; skipping it and continuing" then right after the message "Error during import. The file could not be imported (-2126)" If anyone knows why this would happen and I how I can fix it, that would be amazing.... Thanks in advance!!
** I have Quicktime version 7.0.1 and iMovie 4.0.1 if that helps.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

iMovie does not work with AVI files. You have to convert the file to a format that iMovie understands.

  • 770-G45 wont start after ShutDown

Recently installed MSI 770-G45, problem starts when i regulary shutdown comp. from WinXP or Win7 64-bit.Computer wont start after that, like ther is no power, fans dont spin, no bips, NOTHING. I got to unplug power cord and plugg it again into psu, after that it starts normaly.
Strange thing is that computer starts normally when i manualy shutdown system(holding the power button on the case). There is no exception, starts perfectly evry time after manual shutdown, no need to unplugg powercord.
    Rest of my components> Phenom II X2 555BE, Kingston 2GB 1333mhz, Sapphire 5770, HDD WD 250gb,PSU Corsair TX 650w.
Tried to change power cord, tried other PSU, other case (tought its maybe power button but no), changed mobo battery, installed several OS versions (XP, Win7) and still dont have solution.
    MS 7599 ver. 2.0
    Bios version 10.2
MoBo is new bought it 3 days ago.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!

First: It is important to clear CMOS after a BIOS update. Unplug power cable before the clearing, as there can be no power in the system
Second: Rebuild the system, but outside the case. Use only PSU, motherboard, processor, one stick of memory and graphics card. If it works better then, you may have a short, from a stand-off too many, or poorly isolated wire somewhere.
But I second it sounds like a motherboard problem. You'd better contact the one who sold it to you.
Oh, an oldie thing! You will need to install Windows again, with the new motherboard and all.

    Hello richardayoub1,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If your iPhone is in recovery mode, you will need to restore it with iTunes.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

After a forced computer shutdown, OS X 10.9.5, I have received this message, PS could not initialize Photoshop because the preference file was invalid (it has been deleted).

One idea is to hold down the cmd-opt-shift keys and start Photoshop. It will ask you if you want to delete the settings file. Answer "Yes" and it will create a new Preferences files. Photoshop should continue  to load.
