Lights on, but nobody home???

Hello everyone, hope you can help.
I'm working on a customers 20" Intel iMac G5 (early 2006). It turns on but there is absolutely nothing on the screen. The CD tries to load, but very weak. There is little to no noise from the hard drive.
Not sure if I should take the cover off and hit the reset or what. Key command C or Option didn't bring up anything.

I've been working on computers for quite a while, but only two years on Macs and that's not an everyday thing. I feel that the Apple discussions, have some of the best technicians in the WORLD....like some of the guys I see on my right as I'm typing this....Dr. Smoke, Kappy, Don Archibald, etc... I'm smart enough and have the experience to know if a suggestion "anybody" gives me on this site will screw up someone's computer. Thanks for your suggestions, they are valuable! Hope to work with you in the future!

plugging in some Maxtor External drives and they don't show up (mount)
I hear them. The light is on.
Checking in disk utility shows that computer senses them and says I can repair permissions (have not tried that yet) but they never appear
on the desktop. These drives are more than 5 years old and haven't been used in about a year - my mistake. use it or lose it apparently.
If anyone can throw a life raft I'll grab it.

They don't show up in Disk Util.
Nothing to click on.
When I plug them in I get a message saying do I want to initialize or ignore?
I am assuming initialize would erase everything but there is stuff on them so I don't want to erase.

Brand New Satellite L55 Laptop - The Lights are on But Nobody is Home - Help!

I bought a Toshiba L55A5385 15 Laptop about a week ago. I opened it up and other than finding the new Win8 interface a little annoying, everything seemed to work fine. I transferred a ton of files onto it from my old laptop over the course of a few days and everything seemed fine.
I am currently on a "vacation". I decided to bring both my old laptop and the new Toshiba so I could get used to the new one and make sure I had everything transferred over. I took it out of my suitcase, attached the power supply cord and opened the lid. I pressed the power button and it lit up like normal, but nothing EVER flashed on the screen. It is black. Not a peep. Like it's not even attached. So, lights on, but unusable.
I spent a couple hours googling and I found a quite a few threads that looked like they could be the same issue, but none of them had definitive answers. I HOPING that someone here can help me. PLEASE tell me I didn't buy a piece of crap! (My first Toshiba)

Unplug the device from power and plug it back in.
If it still fails to respond properly, connect it to a computer via microUSB and restore via iTunes.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

As someone who has to print from my Mac to a networked printer at home all the time, I can certainly understand how frustrating it must be to have that fail to perform as expected. Let's see if we can get you up and running.
I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

Start with the section titled Check the network.

Try reset iPad

Release the Buttons...
If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.

AX Orange Flashing Light--different, but the same

Okay so I am only trying to use the AX for Airtunes. I plugged an audio cable in, then the 2 RCA's to the input on my receiver and I plugged the AX in. (I tried it in every order so that can't be it) The first flash is green but then it goes to a solid amber then a flashing amber. I have tried it on a normal stereo; same result. It cant be the signal strength because I've got a full signal in my room. And can someone also tell me why I cant install the AiportUpdate2006001 file?

Blackberry Q5 keyboard lights up but screen stays black!

When I unlock my Blackberry (Which by the way I only got three days ago) when I haven't used it for 10/15 minutes, the keyboard will light up but it won't unlock? But if I press and hold the power button it will let me shut down or restart the device but it won't take me to the main menu, it either stays black or you get the shut down screen. Anyone know what's going on at all? It's annoying me because I love this phone, it's just this one problem! Thank you in advance!

Try this:
Go to Home screen
Swipe down to get to SETTINGS
Select DISPLAY
Make sure brightness slider is at appropriate level-- I keep it a bit nore than half way.
Make sure ALLOW GESTURES WHEN LOCKED is ON
Make sure ALLOW POWER BUTTON TO UiNLOCK DEVICE is ON
Hit Back arrow (<) and close Settings.

There is a hardware problem. Whether it's worth it to you to have no working phone for 2 months until you can update vs paying for replacement/repair now is a question only you can answer.

from the information you provided i can't tell if it is a hardware problem or a software problem. I do have an idea though, try to press your home button and lock button at the same time.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

to figure out which users have administrative privileges, open the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences; each user other than the Guest User will be shown with a description of either “Admin” or “Standard”. It’s typical for the first user created on a Mac to be an administrative user.

It would probably be correct to assume that both PowerBook computers are equipped with FireWire. The article below could possibly be of interest to you. With a bit of luck, the old computer will be recognised.

Otherwise, it may become necessary to open the old PowerBook and remove the hard drive. The drive can then be connected to an appropriate external USB adapter, and read via another Mac.
