"lights out" effect on side panels?

On my system, "lights out" cycles the color of the background of the center panel, but has no effect on the appearance of the side panels. Is this normal behavior?

I've seen the same behavior on a dual-monitor configuration. Is that what you are running?
I run LR on my large display, with Windows desktop on a smaller display. I've seen some strange behavior that wasn't present in LR 1.0, but haven't had time to pin it all down yet. Regarding your question, if I move LR to the smaller display (i.e., like a one-monitor configuration) it works fine. Unfortunate....this all worked fine in LR 1.0.

  • Lights out white border.

Hello I use the lights out function a lot when cropping images and I find the white border applied when in total black a huge help. I noticed it wasn’t there in this version and wanted to know if it was a preference setting or it was just removed. I have changed the lights out color to white which is nice but I would love to have that thin white border back for black backgrounds.

I have the exact same issue and mentioned it another thread here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4129130#4129130
For me it is a huge loss. It helps for a number of reasons. Firstly, I like to snap in and out of Lights Out mode during editing to visualise the finished image without distraction. I also like to crop in lights out mode. While attempting to crop it is now much harder to locate the edge of the image under some circumstances. Additionally, it is very hard to discern where the image ends and the background lights out effect begins in images that have dark edges. It's 100% clear to me that this should be an option rather than a feature that is stripped out entirely.
As far as bugs go, I use lights out mode at least once per image during an edit. Often many times. Having used LR since release 1 I have never experienced an artifact left over by the lights out border. I'd very much like it back!

  • *Help, can't figure out how to reopen closed side panels!!!

I closed the "layer" side panel and can't figure out how to reopen it. Pleaes help, I have CS3.

I also find it useful to do a Workspace Save, when I have things setup as I like. You can access it from the same drop-down on the Toolbar, Window>Workspace>Save_As. I have a half-dozen custom Workspaces, that I use. This can be a real time-saver, when Panels get closed, moved off-screen, or similar.
In versions prior to CS4, the Workspace is saved with the Project. Do not know if that has changed.
    Good luck,

  • Tab: side panels are white instead of black

When in the Library module, when I press tab or shift tab to make the side panel(s) go away, the background is white and I would like it to be black. How do I make this change? Also, in "Lights Out" (pressing L) the background gets lighter instead of darker. How do I change this to darker? THanks!!

    Change your preferences settings.

  • Anyone understand this strange LR3 side panel behaviour?

In the last couple of days my laptop has developed a piece of strange behaviour related to the side panels.  I'm pretty sure it didn't start when I installed the LR3.5 update, but this may have been a contributing factor.
Until recently I always worked in "solo" mode.  A couple of days ago, LR's behaviour changed so that opening or closing any of the side panels would cause the relevant side (left or right) to become totally unresponsive.  The rest of the program continued to work fine, and the equivalent side panel in other modules continued to work properly until a panel was opened or closed.
In an attempt to understand what was going on, I turned "solo" mode off.  This led to some very interesting behaviour indeed:
If I used the triangle to open or close a side panel, everything worked exactly as expected.
If I clicked on the dark grey bar to open or close a side panel, it became stuck in one of the two states.
When stuck in "open" state, clicking in the grey area simply caused the panel to close and then re-open, very rapidly.
When stuck in "closed" state, something similar happened in that the panel opened and then re-closed, very rapidly.
When in "stuck" state, clicking on the triangle had no effect on the displayed panel but it seemed to toggle the internal state between opened and closed.
Once toggled, clicking on the grey bar opened the panel where it used to close it, and vice versa.
When collapsed, the panel displays as pale grey rather than the more usual dark grey.  See below for an illustration.
I have a desktop machine as well which doesn't show the behaviour.  I've tried reinstalling LR3.5, to no avail.  My guess is that we're dealing with inconsistent panel state information in the "preferences" file, but I don't know for sure.
If anyone knows what is happening, or (more importantly) how to stop it happening, I'd be enormously grateful for some help.
    Many thanks in advance,

Further investigation yielded yet more interesting behaviour - and, it turns out, a pointer to the problem.
I tried renaming the old "preferences" file, causing LR to create a new one.  The problem was unchanged, apart from losing my registration information...
I tried creating a new, virgin catalogue.  This behaved normally, so I thought I was onto something!
I tried importing a folder of pictures into the new catalogue.  The old behaviour returned.
I created a new virgin catalogue, which reverted to good behaviour.  I then imported one picture into the catalogue.  Behaviour BAD.
I then tried removing the single picture from the catalogue and restarted LR.  Behaviour GOOD!
Conclusion:  Lightroom works just fine for me providing I never put any pictures into my catalogue!!
This got me thinking that, perhaps, the issue was related to the rendering of images.  I tried installing the latest nVidia drivers for my laptop, but this had no effect whatsoever.  Given the issue clearly related to how images are rendered, however, I wondered whether the problem could relate to colour profiles.  BINGO!!  I'd recently upgraded my "i1xtreme" to X-Rite's new "i1publish".  The profiles created with the latest software are ".icm" rather than ".icc", although this shouldn't matter (and doesn't matter to PS and Bridge).  It seems to matter to LR, however, as reverting to my earlier ".icc" profiles made everything work again just fine.
There is obviously a bug somewhere, but it's not clear whether I should be chasing Adobe or X-Rite.  I'd welcome any comments or advice...
    Many thanks for the suggestions,
    Ian.

  • Is there a way to have the effect in a panel ???

Using the effect in the property panel is very powerfull, but
very annoying when you use more than 4 filters.
So is there an extension to have the effects list ( or as you

Can some FW master (like John dunning or senocular) help me ?

That's pretty much the way the effect panel in Fireworks 4

  • Do you have any ideas why Motion 5 would run slow on a computer? I have an Imac with 8Gigs of ram, and plenty of hard drive space, but it still gives me the beach ball when I add a few lights and effects. I'm at the end of my rope.

You probably don't really need 1080 at 60 for your finished projects but since you're just starting out with Motion, you need to lower your expectations. A long way. 1080 is about 2 million pixels per frame, DV is only about 400,000. That's not just five times as many pixels for the Mac to track; everything in video is exponential.
Explore the training tutorials available by Mark Spencer. You will get an idea of how his super powerful machine reacts with the software.
Adding a light roughly doubles the processing time over flat scenes. Two lights increases processing again. Reflections require processing the lights and then calculating the reflections so add another quarter of the time required for flat scenes. Add camera movement, motion blur, and depth of field and you need exponentially more processing time for every frame. The preload of renders into RAM is one of the cooler features of Motion, as comapred to After Effects, but that takes tons of time, to.
Try working in ye olde DV resolution for a few days. Get to know the software's limitations and what gets imposed by your Macintosh. Step up to 720p/30 and see how things slow down.

  • How Do I Disable Lights Out Management (LOM)?

I was happily running 10.5 Server yesterday on my Intel XServe. The outside world was able to see my web server just fine.
I updated to 10.6 Server late last night and now my http service is not visible to the outside world (or local LAN for that matter).
Suspecting it has something to do with Lights Out Management (LOM).
How do I get LOM to turn loose of the local IP address of the ethernet interface?

What makes you think the LOM has anything to do with this?
There are about two million other things I'd check before I'd worry about the LOM. In fact I can't even think how the LOM could have have effect.
For a start have you verified the services are running? What do the logs say? Can you hit the web service from the machine itself? What about other services that should be running on the machine?
Have you checked the network configuration to make sure the server's IP address hasn't changed, that the default route is set correctly?
Then there are external factors to consider - maybe coincidences that occurred around the same time as your upgrade and may be masking the problem. Have you checked that your port forwarding is set correctly in your router? Are you sure your ISP hasn't started blocking port 80 traffic?

  • Lights Out Management - Crashing / Resetting

It appears that Light-Out-Management is crashing, and I would like to know if there is a way to restart the LOM controller manually.
    I have a Quad-Core Intel Xeon Xserve (XServe2,1).
    - 2GB of memory (from factory)
    - 80GB boot drive, 1TB drive modules in bays 2 and 3.
    - 1 power supply
    - no expansion cards
    - connected to storage arrays via Firewire 800
    - both ethernet ports are in use, 1 connected to the internal network via gigabit ethernet, the other to the fallback ISP
I have have configured Lights Out Management via Server Monitor. It typically works well, delivers information, sends notifications when needed. The lights-out management controller seems to crash or stop functioning regularly. I can only tell this has happened when I stop receiving notifications and the machine no longer appears in the Server Monitor list. The network connection to the machine is up and all other services seem to function normally. If I remote into the machine and do "Configure Local Machine" in Server Monitor, I get the marble of doom for about a minute, and when the Configure Local Machine interface does appear, all of the settings are zeroed out. (i.e. 0.0.0.0 for IP, subnet and router. username and password are blank.) Trying to re-enter the settings delivers an unhelpful error.
Restarting the machine does not help, when it reboots the LOM settings are still zeroed out. However if I shut down the machine and have the power disconnected for a short time (until the back panel lights go out) and then power up the machine, everything goes back to normal.
This is the only Intel Xserve in the rack, and the only one running 10.5. All the others are G5s running 10.4 or Ubuntu. Server Monitor runs well on the other OS X machines.

This problem has existed since the Intel Xserve was released. I haven't found a solution yet. The LOM usually comes back when I remove power from both power supplies for 15 seconds or so, but I'm not inclined to shut down my servers as frequently as the LOM quits.
It would be valuable for us if it worked, since its ipmi compliant.

  • Navigator View:  Slides have disappeared in side panel

    Hi,
I typo'ed some bizarre set of keystrokes and the slides in the side panel disappeared from my Navigator view.
When I open a new doc -- they exist in that file. I've tried all the obvious -- switching views over and over (ok maybe that is compulsive -- not obvious), preferences, etc....
Any idea on how to make them come back? I was thinking about tossing my preference files -- but since the issue only exists in this presentation -- I am not sure that would do any good.
    Thanks,
    Ann

Try removing any transitions or builds on these slides, or delete the slides then recreate them as fresh slides.
There are many playback anomalies in Keynote 6 which Apple have said they will be  sorting out next year.

  • How to call a BI Query (side panel) with selections provided by "tags"?

With regards to my previous post (has anyone already successfully integrated their own BI report in a side panel?) we're still not there yet. What we actually would like to do is call a BI Query in the side panel and have the variable for that report filled automatically via "wiring" (using a tag).
Basically we have a BI Query on a Transient Provider which "calculates" a couple of key figures with regards to a document number (shipment). The reason being before a shipment is to be "sent out" it should meet a couple of requirements (which are not immediately visible within the standard screens) concerning (sales) value, weight, etc...
We have successfully "tagged" the shipment number in the transactions concerned (VT01N - VT03N). Now, as per my previous post if we just add the BI Query as an analytic list component (WDC_BS_ANLY_LIST_ALV) we seem to be getting errors (as the variable is not passed on). To avoid the error, we have added a search component (FPM_SEARCH_UIBB).
So, now we get a "selection screen" in which we manually need to fill a shipment number and when we do, the results are correctly displayed.
Obviously, we would like to have this "variable" assignment to be done automatically via the tag.
    What are we missing here?

found this document on using the FPM_SEARCH_UIBB http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/f07c2765-4ee8-2e10-759b-ea7429a430bb?QuickLink=index&…
if only such a (extremely detailed) document would exits on passing on the "tag" to the BI query variable (as that is not as straight forward)

  • SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Side Panel not displaying JT file

We are trying to use the SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Side Panel from transaction CV03N.  The Side Panel display.  However, all of the various sections of the Side Panel are empty.  Any suggestions of how to resolve this problem would be appreciated.
We traced the interaction between the browser and the server using Fiddler.  We can see a web service call going out to sap/bc/nwbc/nwbc_ext2int.  When we look at the calling parameters (see below), only the Document Number (DOKNR) field is being passed.  Shouldn't the Document Type, Document Part, and Document Version be part of the call?

    Hi Steven,
I don't know what version of SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Viewer being used, however please can you make sure you are using the most up to date version and patch level available via the SAP Service Marketplace and reassess the issue above again thanks. If this does not resolve I would advise you to create an Incident in the SAP Support Portal under component CA-VE-VWR (Embedded Viewer)
    Kind regards,

  • SAP delivered Side Panel example

    Hiya,
I've read up about side panels and I'd just like to demonstrate the functionality to our business - hopefully to convince them that NWBC is the way forward for their power users.
I was hoping to use a SAP delivered side panel - would anyone know how/where SAP has a standard example side panel that I could use for demonstration purposes?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Webdynpro side panels provide a means to build side panels into webdynpro applications.
NWBC side panels on the other hand are different and allow to include any web page Google Maps etc as side panels to your application.
Both are two different things, make sure to watch out for these.
    Regards,
    John
