  • Using LightScribe DVD drive on another computer

Hello! I was wondering if it is at all possible to use the built in LightScribe DVD drive that came with my relative's computer (it's a PC) to burn a DVD I made in iDVD. Is there a way for my Mac to recognize the DVD burner in the other computer if I hook it up to mine using USB or something?
    Thanks

I think you might have to change the extension to: .iso

  • Burn to Lightscribe DVD+R media on External LaCie d2 DVD burner fails

Recently the Superdrive in my iMac G4 has failed where it would no longer burn DVD's reliably. I purchased a LaCie external firewire DVD burner and have been very impressed with its speed and overall compatibility.
I have created several DVDs from iDVD 5.0.1 (written to disk images) and then burned them to DVD-R media using "Disk Utility" with no problems. When I tried to burn them to LightScribe DVD+R media, the burn occurs with no errors and the DVD mounts and plays fine from the LaCie burner. However, trying to play the DVD from my original SuperDrive or in my home DVD players, does not work.
Is there some incompatibility I am unaware of? I believe I created one lightscribe DVD from Toast 7 where I was playing around with duplicating an existing DVD I had and it worked fine. I think the media I used in that case was one provided with the drive and I burned it from toast.
My lightscribe media is Verbatim LightScribe DVD+R media (30 pack). I don't want to consider these coasters. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

My internal SuperDrive has this profile:

It identified write restrictions, but my goal was to write a playable DVD and it fails in both my SuperDrive and off-the-shelf DVD players.
Thanks for the idea, but I'm not sure that this is the issue in this case. Is there some basic compatibility issue with using DVD+R media as a playable DVD for most off-the-shelf players?

  • The lightscribe DVD drives does not read media. Attempted software upgrade to no avail. Error.

The drive would not read media regardless of type or format of CD/DVD.  Downloaded and attemted lightscribe DVD software upgrade; however, during installation system generated error stating "InProc Error".  Something in programming of upgrade (get file...).

You may want to try this Microsoft Fix-It.
What can I do if my CD or DVD drive doesn't work properly?
You could also try using System Restore to restore a previous restore point from before this became an issue.
If that doesn't work, you could try a recovery. Recovering your laptop to its original, out-of-the-box state is a great way to eliminate software as a possible cause of the problem. Note that doing a system recovery will return the laptop to its default conditions, completely wiping your data. Information on how to perform a system recovery can be found in your user's guide. On most models you can hold '0' (zero) with the computer turned off. Then press the power button while continuing to hold '0' until the recovery utlity starts.

  • Brands of LightScribe DVD burners

On Christmas Eve my LaCie d2 DVD burner wit LighScribe died. I would like to replace it with another LightScribe burner. Are there any brands other than LaCie that will work with my Mac Pro? Hopefully one that is less expensive. Thanks.

    hi,
I have installed and use a Lite-On lightscribe dvd in my 2nd internal slot about a year ago. It works great. I am sure that just about any brand will work as long as it is ata interface. Mine was immediately recognized by 10.4.xx but you have to do some minor hacks o get it to burn using the lightscribe. To get the lightscribe to work I needed to install the file found at this link:
    http://www.lightscribe.com/downloadSection/mac/index.aspx?id=813
You need to install it first and then install a label lightscribe label program like Lacie's Labeler program for mac found athttp://www.lacie.com/support/drivers/driver.htm?id=10061. It it important in the installation of this program to select "Custom" install and Un-check the "Host software" module button. (if this software is already installed, you must uninstall/remove and reinstall with custom install option)
At that point the internal lightscribe should work.
    Good luck

  • LightScribe DVD±R/RW is no longer able to read all lightscribe discs(Blank/used)

    Hi,
The product Name of my computer is: HP Pavilion dv6-6093ex Entertainment
    Notebook PC support
The number of my computer is : LM610EA#A2N.
Could anyone please at this splendid forum take some of their precious time
out to really reply my questions and solve my problems?
    FIRST OF ALL:
My HP Pavilion Laptop is about 3 years old.
    My
sister's Dell Inspiron laptop is 3 years old.
My HP laptop is well-cared, as opposed to my sister's Inspiron Dell laptop, which is always thrown in dust without caring at all. Also, its battery is always inserted even when it is fully charged while the laptop is plugged in to the main power supply. However, my laptop is either used on only battery, or on plugin. Also, it is kept from the dust. But, I really found that the battery of the Dell laptop still lasts about three and half hours, and there is no problem cooling fan is not properly properly.
I only remember one thing differently done on my laptop battery which is I charged it fully, then I stored it without using it for about four months, then when I reused it, I found it got worse over time. I.e. first time of using it after storing,I found it empty, then I charged it again fully, however, then it lasted about 2 hours, then 1 and half hours, next an hour, now it is only lasting about 20 minutes without performance. If there is high performance, then
    the computer shuts down suddenly.
    My problem is follows:::
First: Whenever I inserted any Containing Data OR Data CD/DVD-RLightScribe discs, I found that HP optical driver was unable to read them. When clicking on the optical disc drive 'double-click' while disc was inserted, then I found that disc opened as this way(NOTE: With a CD/DVD player is grayed out)
I was told 'I suspect the culprit might be hardware and lightscribe dive might be

Since no one replied to me at HP forums, although my HP laptop is one of their products, I had to post my problem here to know if my driver is corrupted and needs to be replaced or not.

I tried running the below command line to fix potential disk issue 'Chkdsk/r /f'
I cleaned the drive, discs, and so on.
I have uninstalled the all third-party data recording software.
I have uninstalled the Cyber DVD suite, lightscribe system software which
came pre-installed with my HP pavilion Notebook.
I have recovered my system from the HP Factory Recovery discs.
I have tried opening all those LightScibe discs not opening on my HP optical
drive, on a Dell optical drive, and all of them were opened well, although Dell
optical drive did not have a lightscribe feature at all., nor third party disc
    recording software
However, the problem is still with opening the discs LIGHT-SCRIBE
    Thus, my questions are:
How to determine if the drive is corrupted and needs to be replaced with
    another one.
I think there something needed to be done on the BIOS Of my HP laptop[[[A similar problems happened on my Desktop computer's optical drive which is as follows (ALL discs are opened as empty by Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer) ---while my optical drive of my desktop was connected to the primary slave IDE, and the HDD was connected to the primary master IDE, the optical drive and hard disk are functioning well. However, I remember that while burning an image with Nero essential V: 5, something went wrong, and then the Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer (HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20) became NOT recognised/Installed on BIOS, although it was still shown on the device manager as a recognised device. Also, it was listed on my computer, however, when entering a disc(blank or with data) into the drive, I found it was not recognised, and it opened empty(no files at it), although it contains data. Thus, I decided to boot to BIOS, and clicked on 'Autodetection for IDE', then I found that only HDD was still shown as installed on BIOS. However, the optical drive was not. Th I tried clicking on it on BIOS and then clicking on 'enter' to try to let the device be re-recognized. However, that made no difference. I had to take part my computer ,and then reconnected the optical drive onto the secondary slave IDE , and let HDD connected to the same primary master IDE. Then, I found that the problem solved and all discs were read normally. Aslo, optical drive became installed on BIOS

I understand that you are having an issue with your battery and the lightscribe drive. You would also like to know about DL(Dual Layer) support.
Here is a link to  Troubleshooting the notebook battery to assist with the battery concern.
You asked what dual layer support is , here is a definition from webopedia for the explanation.
    What is dual layer support
As you stated in your post your system supports  reading
The DL refers to dual layer, it does not list a CD DL.  What type of disk are you using?
From your post I noticed it does read the title of the disk but is unable to read the file.
Did you use any form of compression software  when writing the files?
Would you try inserting a  supported blank disk and writing to it.  If you can do this and read the disk after your drive is functioning.
The only other way to check would be to remove and reinstall it  into another computer to test if it works there.
Yes there is a bios update listed on the driver page for your notebook.

    Thanks a lot,
I wish that Paul_Tikkanen could have participated in solving this issue since I know he has insight in such problems.
Could you please be a little bit patient with me and go through all my points below and answer me::
IF you had  had a close look at my screen shots before, you would have seeing I have classified the disc haveing and not having the problem  into three categories each of which has its screen shots under it.
Blank Or Used(containg data) CD/ DVD ±R/RW lightscirbe is unable to be  read by optical drive
Not Blank(containing data) CD/ DVD ±R/RW NON -Lightscirbe disc opens normal
    Blank CD/ DVD ±R/RW NON-lightscirbe opens normal(Opens like a USB FlashDrive or With a CD,DVD)::
First The kind of discs I have been used to using, and seeing in the market are only:
    CD-R, C-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW.
    However, I never ever used or saw 'CD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD-ROM CD-R DL, CD+R DL, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, CD-RW DL, CD+RW DL, DVD-RW DL, DVD+RW DL.
Thus, Could you please be a little more detailed about each of the above disc types?
Second: I don't know if I can see 'DVD+R DL' written on the cover of DVD like what I am accustomed to see 'DVD-R'?
Third: What difference is there between 'DVD-RW', and 'DVD-RW DL', and 'DVD-R' and 'DVD-R DL'?

NOTE, those discs are for HP Factory Recovery Discs.I have created those Discs via HP Recovery Manager.  After creating them, I have labelled them with lightscribe software. ALL LightScribe are not read well and are unknown. Thus, my answer for your question is No, I don't use compression software unless if the program 'HP Recovery Manager' used a compression built-in tool while creating those discs'
Moreover, I have even restored my laptop from the HP factory Recovery discs which means everything must have been OK

Have you seen my screen shots well?
The key of my problem as to unable to reading LightScribe is the answer of this question of mine: Why do I see 'RAW' or 'unknown' as a file system for disc inserted whenever I insert a ligthSribe disc into drive?
All Blank Or containing data CD/ DVD ±R/RW lightscirbe are unable to be  read by optical drive. When clicking on drive 'duble-click', I found it opens  like a USB FlashDrive or With a CD,DVD player, however, 'with CD/DVD Player' is grayed out) When I chose 'like a USB FlashDrive, I found there was no disc inserted, although it was.
If you mean other discs not LightScribe, then I would be saying YES. And they all worked well, except the lightscribe(Blank, or containing data) were not read well at all.(all are unknown).
    Sparkles1 wrote:

You mean I need to remove the optical drive and install on another laptop brand. If so, It would be compatible with any laptop brand?
NOTE: the reason around this problem is not lightscribe discs(I think) since any optical drive without having a lightscribe feature can read lightscribe discs. For instance the Dell laptop(Windows 7) could read all lightscribe disc or non lightscribe discs, even although it doesn't have any lightscribe feature, nor a disc recording software, except the Windows built-in default  tools. Dell optical drive, although not having a lightscribe feature, read all discs no matter the disc type is. Thus, In my HP optical drive having a lightscribe feature, I have decided to get rid of (lightscribe feature by removing the lightscribe system software, and all Cyber DVD-Suite). However, the problem is still with reading lightscribe discs.

    Updating the BIOS
First:: I have updated my BIOS from F.05 into F.1B by using HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) (sp55068) F.1B hoping to get rid of this problem, but that made no difference at all.
    NOTE
Other suggested that I insert an empty rewritable CD and try running the following command: format e: /fs:UDF
I did, but it didn't help.
Other suggested to download the latest version LightSribe system software, but I would be saying how to do that as long as HP would be phasing out HP LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling technology. HP will gradually transition products to comparable optical disc drives without LightScribe technology.
Second:: I've also been searching in HP forums, but always they said nonsense comments which I don't put up with. Take this one for example,
I'd be happy to do all I can to help with your lightscribe. Please note:Beginning May 2011 and throughout the year, HP will be phasing out HP LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling technology. HP will gradually transition products to comparable optical disc drives without LightScribe technology. While this transition may affect other HP products, this document is specific to HP notebooks.- Source

NOTE:Hewlett-Packard's LightScribe website is no longer active. LightScribe software and disc utilities
may be found on a number of public websites. Search the Internet for LightScribeto find these pages.
This blurb and much more information can be found in the following document; Creating Disc Labels with LightScribe
    The compelet discussion is here.
Finally I would be saying that LightScribe website is no longer available(discontinued). As HP said. IF HP customer care couldn't help their customers, I think it would be better to completely discontinue selling HP products.

  • Adding a LightScribe DVD/CD Drive to MacPro Early 2009

It appears as if the 18x SuperDrive in this machine does not support LightScribe.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9192513&#9192513
I would like to add the capability to my new computer. I have found at least one external drive that will support LightScribe with the use of Toast 10. I have enough stuff on my desk already (including the LED Display because the cable is too short to put the machine under my desk.
There is a free DVD connector and you can add a second internal drive by prying off the cover on the drive.
Does anyone have a good recommendation for a second LightScribe capable drive?

    direwolf8 wrote:
My point is that it's not a universal feature on computers in general, and it's not listed in any of the Apple specs, so it seems odd to me that anybody would assume it would be a standard feature. Apple never included the disct@2 technology for labeling disks that was a proprietary feature of Yamaha drives. One could just as easily express surprise that the Mac Pro doesn't have SAS drive support, serial and parallel ports, and GPIB support, but I'd still wonder where you got the notion that they did or should.
I'm sorry if you didn't find this helpful, but I think it was a superfluous question since Lightscribe support isn't mentioned anywhere in Apple's specs.
As to Apple specs, I make no assumption that it should be a standard feature, but this is a forum on +expanding function+ of my Apple computer. Surely you do not suggest that Apple is like some other vendors who expect that users should have somebody else do their thinking?
It is a feature that I, as the owner of the computer, choose to have. Apple may license parts of it to me and it may come with license restrictions, but it is my computer and if I want to add function, I will do so.
When PARC had the motto of "don't mode me in", I resonated to it. And I like open source software and open standards, but I will not let ANY vendor including Apple "mode me in" with their specs. As for Apple, they certainly have their share of proprietary features so if I wanted to be pure as snow I would run only LINUX. Oops, there is proprietary stuff there too if you look closely enough.
Most of the multimedia disks I create have inkjet labels on them. I wanted a second drive and LightScribe was frosting on the cake; not the reason for adding a drive. The end product does not look as good as my ink jet labels, but it is less easily damaged. While I archive most things offsite with a service, I do like to have a physical copy stored offsite as well. That is where most if not all of the LightScribe disks will go.

  • Samsung SH-S182M (Lightscribe DVD Burner) - Will it work in a G5 DP 2.0GHz?

I found this drive on sale at Frys this weekend for 49 bucks. All the sales reps just read the box and saw no mention of Mac OS X and said, it won't work even though I told them I regularly use Pioneer ones that say nothing about macs but work fine.
Does anyone know if this drive will work in a G5? Do you need special software to do the "lightscribe" part? CAn you even do that on a mac? Is it even worth getting a lightscribe disc? I like the idea of burning the image on the disk...love the way it looks....

Here is some info that you may find useful:
    http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/drivedb/search.drivedb.lasso
    Select "DVD+R/RW + DVD-R/RW"
    Select "Samsung"
    and "Search"
There are others using the Samsung Lightscribe drives.

  • Anyone using LaCie Internal dual layer LightScribe DVD burner in G4?

Anyone using this drive in a PowerMac G4? Any issues?

I'm using an ibook g4 with 512 ram, and a LaCie DVD DL burner with lightscribe (external). I'm quite satisfied with performance. Just make sure that you get the proper software for the mac with the burner (in the box) if you get lightscribe. If you don't, check limewire on a saturday or sunday to get it from me, then go to the LaCie website and download any and all updates.
    good luck.

Process and still have the problem DVD not under device manager and coprocessor yellow
DVD spins when booting but after W& splash screen no longer functions, it did work prior to upgrade.
I have seen many listed problems but no solution. My device is a TS-L632N and based on the most recent drivers I can find still not working. I looked in the registry and it is not listed under cdrom or
    {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
There are no upper or lower filters

I solved a similar but slightly different problem.
I have HP DV 6629US laptop - Atholon 64 with Vista 32.  Hard drive fried, and had to replace and rebuild.  During the rebuild could not get Lightscribe CD/DVD to be recognized.  Reading HP, Lightscribe, Optiarc (drive maker) realized this was probably a BIOS configuration problem  that is not easy to fix in Vista32.  The only way I figured was to find the conflicting driver and re-install.
After installing a drivers 1 by 1  I found the Synaptic pointing drive (PS2 interface) was the culprit.  There is no guarrantee this will work for you, but a simple solution would be to un-install and re-install the mouse-pointing driver.  Be careful, you will need to navigate via the tab and keyboard temporarily while the mouse is disabled.
