Lightscribe Labeling technology

I presently own a Toshiba Laptop Model P775-S7215; Serial#: 7B352877K.  My prior 2 computers have been HP Laptops and
both had Lightscribe Labeling capability.  On my prior 2 HP Latops; for Lightscribe capability; I used a software
program called "Droppix Label Maker".
When I try to use "Droppix label Maker" for Lightscribe purpose on my Toshiba Model P775-S7215; Serial#: 7B352877K;
"Droppix Label Maker" WILL NOT even recognize my Factory Toshiba Dvd/Cd Player-recorder (Mat**bleep**a BD-CMB-UJ141EF).
(1) Does my Mat**bleep**a BD-CMB-UJ141EF have Lightscribe OR Lightcribe Equivilent capability?
(2) If answer to question 1 is yes; does Mat**bleep**a BD-CMB-UJ141EF require special Lightscribe Media CD's/DVD's?
(3) If answer to question 1 is yes; does Mat**bleep**a BD-CMB-UJ141EF require a special software program(s)?
I am using your Factory Installed "Windows 7 Home Edition" with SP 1 Installed AND all Updates; with 6 GB Ram.
Thank you.

Satellite P775-S7215
Lightscribe Labeling capability
As you can see from the spec above, your computer has Labelflash instead of LightScribe.
I believe it's Corel's Label@Once that you use for Labelflash on your model. This older document may still describe the process.

  • 4L (LaCie's LightScribe Labeler for Linux) : advice wished!

As K3b Founder Sebastian Trueg said, "We're happy to see that LaCie is developing tools for Linux users, and are pleased to work with them to make it happen. With the LaCie LightScribe Labeler for Linux, [Linux] users now have access to the latest disc-labeling technology from LightScribe."
    http://www.k3b.org/
I'm making the PKGBUILDs but some advice on the process would be helpfull
So far, installed with those PKGBUILDs, 4L-gui launches on my Arch (but seems to lack some functionnality) and 4L-cli segfaults even if it prints the options.
_Be aware that those PKGBUILD are not finished yet_

  • Need Lacie LightScribe labeler software for Mac

I just purchased a Lacie LightScribe DVDRW with USB 2.0, and the lame people at Lacie decided to not give me a copy of their Lacie lightscribe software (after I kindly asked them) even though it would (according to them) work perfectly well with my USB 2.0 drive. For some unexplained reason, they would only bundle the software with the Firewire version of the drive.
So anyway, I'm wondering if anyone can point me to some place, or can "give me" a copy of the software.
I hate to purchase another Lacie drive just to get this software... which is kind of what the Lacie support rep hinted me to do ......

    Yi,
Of course the drive works with the Mac.
However, continue down the page, and you will see:
    "Mac software not included"
It is less expensive, as it does not include the licensed Mac software. Some people already have the software.
So, you may ask, how can I use the drive with my Mac then?
    - the drive will work for burning data CDs and DVDs on the Mac after installing the Disc Burning Profile for 10.3.x and 10.4.x; drive will work with itunes, iPhoto, and Finder to burn discs. This profile is a free download at our website. It will NOT provide LightScribe labeling capability.
I am sorry that this was not clear to you; I still recommend that you exchange the drive for a model compatible with your computer, or return for a refund.
    Mike

  • After burning a audio CD, the Create LightScribe Label window does not show

I found burning a LightScribe label after burning with iTunes directions. It says that iTunes works with Sonic Express Labeler. After burning the CD, a Create LightScribe Label window is supposed to appear. It does not. Why? Help!!
    HP Pavilion a1220n   Windows XP
    HP Pavilion a1220n   Windows XP

No one answered his question. On HP it says:
Creating a LightScribe label with iTunes
iTunes works with Sonic Express Labeler to conveniently burn labels on a data CD or audio CD from iTunes. The playlist you create in iTunes to burn a disc is automatically imported into Express Labeler so that this information is available for you to use on your LightScribe label.
NOTE: To use Express Labeler from iTunes, the data or music tracks in the playlist your are using must fit on a single CD.
Click Start, All Programs, iTunes, and then click iTunes again.
Burn a data or audio CD with iTunes. When the burning process is complete, click Yes on the Create LightScribe Label window.
Make sure that Disc Label is selected in Step 1: Select Project.
Select a label template by clicking the left or right arrows next to Layout and choosing a layout.
NOTE: The various layouts show different amounts of playlist information. Some show only the playlist title, others show the playlist title and track names. You can edit the playlist information by clicking Disc Title to open the Edit Disc Title window.
Click Tracks to display the Edit Tracks window. Click New to display the Track window. Enter text to identify the first track or file (you can optionally enter artist and date, or length), and then click OK.
Repeat step 5 for each track or file on the disc.
Click the left or right arrows next to Background to select design elements for the disc. The selections you make are previewed in the disc window.
NOTE: If you use a color image, LightScribe burns it as a greyscale (monochrome) image.
When you are satisfied with the appearance of your label design, insert the LightScribe disc (label-side down) into the disc drive tray and then click Print.
From the Disc Label menu, select LightScribe 12cm Disc.
Select a Contrast Level and then click OK to begin burning the label. The estimated time to complete the label is displayed, along with a progress bar. You can continue to work on your PC while LightScribe is burning the label.
NOTE: A sudden bump or vibration of the computer during the labeling process may affect the quality of the label.
His question is why this does not happen. What version of iTunes are you using? Is an upgrade to the newest version needed? I woul dlik eto hear form others who use lightscribe with itunes and how they do it.

  • Burning CD Labels from ITunes to LightScribe Label

Evidently one can't print CD Labels directlty to a LightScribe Labeler
Anyone have a CD Labeler Software to recommend that will do the job. I'd like to burn the ITunes generated artwork and song lists LightScribe CD's but don't know how.
Gateway GM5420     LP Lightscribe CD Burner

I appricate you response but i have been trying different things for days prior to my post and updating itunes to the latest version and using 2.4 was one of them and i'm sorry to report this didn't help. The files that were encode with itunes that do allow songs to show up on the 360 were using tag ver. 2.3 so i didn't expect this to help.
iTunes is doing something to the files that it encodes. However if i burn the non iIunes encoded MP3's to CD-R and then let iTunes rencode the files back to MP3 again it still doesn't work. Seems as though there is something missing in these non iTunes encoded files that rencoding will not correct. This is what needs to be solved so i manully add this inorder for these files to works as the iTunes encode files.
    Thanks

  • Can my iMac burn Lightscribe labels

Can my iMac burn Lightscribe labels on the lightscribe dvds ????

With appropriate software, yes, presuming of course you have a Lightscribe drive. The vendor of your drive should have provided software, but if not,. Lightscribe has it here:
    http://www.lightscribe.com/downloadSection/mac/index.aspx
though I don't know if it's compatible with Lion.
    Regards.

  • Why wont Lightscribe Labeler find my drive so I can print a label on theDVD

I can't believe it but I nearly at the end of making my first DVD. Now I have one hang up that should be seemingly easy. I have a Lacie DVD burner with Lightscribe and Lightscribe DVD discs. I burn the movie fine but now I want to put a Label on the DVD. I went to the Lacie Lightscribe Labeler - picked the photo wanted as background - selected print - but now it doesn't find a drive even though I hear the player revv up - noting comes up on the list and thus I can't print - what's up?

I'm having the same trouble. I have recently changed computers. I now have an iMac. previously I had an eMac and the lightscriber burner was hooked up to that and worked fine. Now on the imac it just comes up that it can't find the device. I have checked connections, installations.... If someone has the answer it would be greatly appreciative.
    Thanks
    !!

  • LightScribe Labels

    HP Photosmart C8180 All-in-One Printer
    Windows Vista 32-bit
HP Photosmart C8100 is enable to print directly on CD/DVD (massage in HP Photosmart Essential 2.5)
No changes (not working from beginning)
As I can not get information anywhere else I would ask: Is it possible to print LightScribe Pictures Labels (sent to C8180 printer, using WiFi network, from my Laptop) I can not use HP Photosmart Essential 2.5 to do this, as this program show me every time massage that my C8180 is not capable to do this. I can only print LigtScribe Labels directly from panel of my C8180 printer (only simply one - just letters).

Are you referring to regular CD labels?
LightScribe is a special type of disc and CD/DVD burner to burn the label directly into the disk rather than printing on it.  LightScribe is completely separate from any printer.
Try reviewing HP's LightScribe site for more information.

  • LaCie LightScribe Labeler for Linux released Oct 17th.

Some of us are missing LightScribe capabilities on Arch Linux.
Now "4L" comes as an RPM free (as in beer) & ready for Linux
The news is there : http://www.k3b.org/ (LaCie is a k3b support)
    Press release : http://www.lacie.com/company/news/news.htm?id=10293
    Download page : http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=10803
I've never used rpm under Arch and will seek knowledge on rpm2cpio AUR package.
Anybody's willing to get on this ?

Use rpmextract to extract the files from the rpm. Then, it's just a question of installing the files in the correct place (in $startdir/pkg), i.e. binaries in /usr/bin, libraries in /usr/lib, etc.

  • Lacie Lightscribe Labeler Software?

Does anyone know if this software will work with Lightscribe drives that are made by other companies?

    Hi-
The following is copied from the LaCie lightscribe software manual:

    LightScribe media (CD or DVD)•
PowerPC G4 500MHz or later, or Intel Core Duo

In the past, I used LaCie Silverlining hard drive software on other makers' hard drives, with no ill effect.
The only thing that might cause you a problem (?) would be incompatibilities in the firmware of another makers drive.

  • Lacie D2 Lightscribe won't burn high quality labels

I just bought the Lacie D2 lightscribe drive. I had to update the Lightscribe Labeler software to version 1.1 to burn a label on the disc. I attempted to print a high quality image but the software said it couldn't without updating, however it gave me the option to burn a generic lower quality label which worked. Is there another update I should know about or should I buy a different program like Disclabel which supports Lightscribe for mac?

I suggest you have a look around here and contact support at Lacie on this page for a problem.

  • LightScribe DVD±R/RW is no longer able to read all lightscribe discs(Blank/used)

    Hi,
The product Name of my computer is: HP Pavilion dv6-6093ex Entertainment
    Notebook PC support
The number of my computer is : LM610EA#A2N.
Could anyone please at this splendid forum take some of their precious time
out to really reply my questions and solve my problems?
    FIRST OF ALL:
My HP Pavilion Laptop is about 3 years old.
    My
sister's Dell Inspiron laptop is 3 years old.
My HP laptop is well-cared, as opposed to my sister's Inspiron Dell laptop, which is always thrown in dust without caring at all. Also, its battery is always inserted even when it is fully charged while the laptop is plugged in to the main power supply. However, my laptop is either used on only battery, or on plugin. Also, it is kept from the dust. But, I really found that the battery of the Dell laptop still lasts about three and half hours, and there is no problem cooling fan is not properly properly.
I only remember one thing differently done on my laptop battery which is I charged it fully, then I stored it without using it for about four months, then when I reused it, I found it got worse over time. I.e. first time of using it after storing,I found it empty, then I charged it again fully, however, then it lasted about 2 hours, then 1 and half hours, next an hour, now it is only lasting about 20 minutes without performance. If there is high performance, then
    the computer shuts down suddenly.
    My problem is follows:::
First: Whenever I inserted any Containing Data OR Data CD/DVD-RLightScribe discs, I found that HP optical driver was unable to read them. When clicking on the optical disc drive 'double-click' while disc was inserted, then I found that disc opened as this way(NOTE: With a CD/DVD player is grayed out)
I was told 'I suspect the culprit might be hardware and lightscribe dive might be
corrupt. Please sent it to service center to check. In addition, this thread could be as a reference:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-hardware/media-in-cddvd-drive-is-not-...'
Since no one replied to me at HP forums, although my HP laptop is one of their products, I had to post my problem here to know if my driver is corrupted and needs to be replaced or not.

I tried running the below command line to fix potential disk issue 'Chkdsk/r /f'
I cleaned the drive, discs, and so on.
I have uninstalled the all third-party data recording software.
I have uninstalled the Cyber DVD suite, lightscribe system software which
came pre-installed with my HP pavilion Notebook.
I have recovered my system from the HP Factory Recovery discs.
I have tried opening all those LightScibe discs not opening on my HP optical
drive, on a Dell optical drive, and all of them were opened well, although Dell
optical drive did not have a lightscribe feature at all., nor third party disc
    recording software
However, the problem is still with opening the discs LIGHT-SCRIBE
    Thus, my questions are:
How to determine if the drive is corrupted and needs to be replaced with
    another one.
I think there something needed to be done on the BIOS Of my HP laptop[[[A similar problems happened on my Desktop computer's optical drive which is as follows (ALL discs are opened as empty by Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer) ---while my optical drive of my desktop was connected to the primary slave IDE, and the HDD was connected to the primary master IDE, the optical drive and hard disk are functioning well. However, I remember that while burning an image with Nero essential V: 5, something went wrong, and then the Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer (HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20) became NOT recognised/Installed on BIOS, although it was still shown on the device manager as a recognised device. Also, it was listed on my computer, however, when entering a disc(blank or with data) into the drive, I found it was not recognised, and it opened empty(no files at it), although it contains data. Thus, I decided to boot to BIOS, and clicked on 'Autodetection for IDE', then I found that only HDD was still shown as installed on BIOS. However, the optical drive was not. Th I tried clicking on it on BIOS and then clicking on 'enter' to try to let the device be re-recognized. However, that made no difference. I had to take part my computer ,and then reconnected the optical drive onto the secondary slave IDE , and let HDD connected to the same primary master IDE. Then, I found that the problem solved and all discs were read normally. Aslo, optical drive became installed on BIOS

I understand that you are having an issue with your battery and the lightscribe drive. You would also like to know about DL(Dual Layer) support.
Here is a link to  Troubleshooting the notebook battery to assist with the battery concern.
You asked what dual layer support is , here is a definition from webopedia for the explanation.
    What is dual layer support
As you stated in your post your system supports  reading
The DL refers to dual layer, it does not list a CD DL.  What type of disk are you using?
From your post I noticed it does read the title of the disk but is unable to read the file.
Did you use any form of compression software  when writing the files?
Would you try inserting a  supported blank disk and writing to it.  If you can do this and read the disk after your drive is functioning.
The only other way to check would be to remove and reinstall it  into another computer to test if it works there.
Yes there is a bios update listed on the driver page for your notebook.

Updating the bios does have a potential to cause damage, for this reason I suggest contacting HP support for assistance.

    Thanks a lot,
I wish that Paul_Tikkanen could have participated in solving this issue since I know he has insight in such problems.
Could you please be a little bit patient with me and go through all my points below and answer me::
IF you had  had a close look at my screen shots before, you would have seeing I have classified the disc haveing and not having the problem  into three categories each of which has its screen shots under it.
Blank Or Used(containg data) CD/ DVD ±R/RW lightscirbe is unable to be  read by optical drive
Not Blank(containing data) CD/ DVD ±R/RW NON -Lightscirbe disc opens normal
    Blank CD/ DVD ±R/RW NON-lightscirbe opens normal(Opens like a USB FlashDrive or With a CD,DVD)::
First The kind of discs I have been used to using, and seeing in the market are only:
    CD-R, C-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW.
    However, I never ever used or saw 'CD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD-ROM CD-R DL, CD+R DL, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, CD-RW DL, CD+RW DL, DVD-RW DL, DVD+RW DL.
Thus, Could you please be a little more detailed about each of the above disc types?
Second: I don't know if I can see 'DVD+R DL' written on the cover of DVD like what I am accustomed to see 'DVD-R'?
Third: What difference is there between 'DVD-RW', and 'DVD-RW DL', and 'DVD-R' and 'DVD-R DL'?

NOTE, those discs are for HP Factory Recovery Discs.I have created those Discs via HP Recovery Manager.  After creating them, I have labelled them with lightscribe software. ALL LightScribe are not read well and are unknown. Thus, my answer for your question is No, I don't use compression software unless if the program 'HP Recovery Manager' used a compression built-in tool while creating those discs'
Moreover, I have even restored my laptop from the HP factory Recovery discs which means everything must have been OK

Have you seen my screen shots well?
The key of my problem as to unable to reading LightScribe is the answer of this question of mine: Why do I see 'RAW' or 'unknown' as a file system for disc inserted whenever I insert a ligthSribe disc into drive?
All Blank Or containing data CD/ DVD ±R/RW lightscirbe are unable to be  read by optical drive. When clicking on drive 'duble-click', I found it opens  like a USB FlashDrive or With a CD,DVD player, however, 'with CD/DVD Player' is grayed out) When I chose 'like a USB FlashDrive, I found there was no disc inserted, although it was.
If you mean other discs not LightScribe, then I would be saying YES. And they all worked well, except the lightscribe(Blank, or containing data) were not read well at all.(all are unknown).

You mean I need to remove the optical drive and install on another laptop brand. If so, It would be compatible with any laptop brand?
NOTE: the reason around this problem is not lightscribe discs(I think) since any optical drive without having a lightscribe feature can read lightscribe discs. For instance the Dell laptop(Windows 7) could read all lightscribe disc or non lightscribe discs, even although it doesn't have any lightscribe feature, nor a disc recording software, except the Windows built-in default  tools. Dell optical drive, although not having a lightscribe feature, read all discs no matter the disc type is. Thus, In my HP optical drive having a lightscribe feature, I have decided to get rid of (lightscribe feature by removing the lightscribe system software, and all Cyber DVD-Suite). However, the problem is still with reading lightscribe discs.

    Updating the BIOS
First:: I have updated my BIOS from F.05 into F.1B by using HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) (sp55068) F.1B hoping to get rid of this problem, but that made no difference at all.
    NOTE
Other suggested that I insert an empty rewritable CD and try running the following command: format e: /fs:UDF
I did, but it didn't help.
Other suggested to download the latest version LightSribe system software, but I would be saying how to do that as long as HP would be phasing out HP LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling technology. HP will gradually transition products to comparable optical disc drives without LightScribe technology.
Second:: I've also been searching in HP forums, but always they said nonsense comments which I don't put up with. Take this one for example,
I'd be happy to do all I can to help with your lightscribe. Please note:Beginning May 2011 and throughout the year, HP will be phasing out HP LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling technology. HP will gradually transition products to comparable optical disc drives without LightScribe technology. While this transition may affect other HP products, this document is specific to HP notebooks.- Source
This might be helpful too; Creating disc labels with LightScribe
NOTE:Hewlett-Packard's LightScribe website is no longer active. LightScribe software and disc utilities
may be found on a number of public websites. Search the Internet for LightScribeto find these pages.
This blurb and much more information can be found in the following document; Creating Disc Labels with LightScribe
    The compelet discussion is here.
Finally I would be saying that LightScribe website is no longer available(discontinued). As HP said. IF HP customer care couldn't help their customers, I think it would be better to completely discontinue selling HP products.

Use rpmextract to extract the files from the rpm. Then, it's just a question of installing the files in the correct place (in $startdir/pkg), i.e. binaries in /usr/bin, libraries in /usr/lib, etc.

  • Installing  LaCie DVD±RW Internal Drive with LightScribe 16x E-IDE with DL

Have just bought the LaCie DVD±RW Internal Drive with LightScribe 16x E-IDE with Double Layer for an incredible price if $44.99. Geeesh, why are they so cheap these days? I did researched this with LaCie customer/tech services and they indicated once the face plate is removed it will install easily into my PM G5 Dual 2.5GHz (Rev B model).
Has anyone else installed this and if so are there any issues to be aware of as part of the install process - oh, and did it work AOK ?
Thanks for any insights and/or feedback on this. I should be getting the LaCie burner next week sometime.

    FYI...
OK - so I received my LaCie - LaCie DL DVD±RW Internal Drive with LightScribe E-IDE, with Double Layer today. I thought I'd post my install experience before it all faded into the murky past. ;-)) I do this in order to help myself and for others who may wander down this install path. There are a few minor gotchas that if known ahead of time will make the install easier and less thought provoking for having to make decisions on how best to proceed.
Let me say up front, the install was successful, Apple's DVD SuperDrive device design is superb in that it allows easy removal in a dimensionally constrained space and the new LaCie device is now fully operational. I've played a DVD movie, it's compatible with the .Mac Backup 3 program after loading LaCie's software and my PM G5 Dual 2.5GHz (Rev B) now recognizes the device as a DL DVD burner (Vendor Supported). I've yet to use the LightScribe Labeler software, although I've installed it all from the supplied discs and latest updates from LaCie Support web site at http://www.lacie.com/support/drivers and select DVD from the drop down menu selection. I'm very pleased with this LaCie device at this moment.
Here's the install process step by step
    1. First power off and disconnect all external devices from the PM.
    2. Get your wrist strap on and ground yourself to PM casing.
    3. Lay PM on its side and remove metal side panel and remove clear plastic panel.
    4. Rotate both plastic latches that hold the SuperDrive in place.
    5. Disconnect the SuperDrive's flat wire ribbon from Motherboard - it has a convenient handle for pulling it straight up and off. Once disconnected, push it thru the opening to where the SuperDrive casing is located. This will be more obvious when you are actually doing this.
    6. Open the SuperDrive's Alu door by pressing lightly on it and sliding it down.
    7. With Alu door open use a finger nail to engage a portion of the SuperDrive's tray opening and push up and towards yourself and at same time with other hand pull up the rear most portion of the SuperDrive's casing. The drive should slowly slide away from its feet slots much like for the HDs. Slowly remove the SuperDrive and before it is fully out remove its power connector and then the flat wire ribbon from rear of SuperDrive. The SuperDrive can now be completely removed. Note that on my SuperDrive the flat wire ribbon was attached to SuperDrive's casing with a grey two-sided sticky pad. Remove the ribbon carefully from this and then remove the sticky gray pad and affix it to the same place on the LaCie device. Rememeber the wire ribbon's orientation as you will need to re-install this a little later.
    8. Remove the 4 black screw feet from the SuperDrive's lower surface. You will need a torx screw driver and may have to begin by losening them with pliers. Take these and screw them into the same spots on the base of the LaCie device.
    9. Remove the stainless steel face plate from the SuperDrive - ply up the end wraps and it will slide and pull off easily. Place this onto the LaCie device.
    10. Put the SuperDrive aside as you're all done with it now,
    11. Press the tray release button on the LaCie device and pull off its plastic face plate - comes of easily.
    12. This next step is a bit tricky, a bit time consuming and some care is needed. The LaCie tray eject button needs to be removed (you will notice on Apple's SuperDrive it's also missing, and there's a good reason for this). Use a small screw driver and pry up the right side (looking straight at the front surface of the LaCie device) of the button. It will come up and rotate to left some. The button is held on by a small plastic C-shape tab. Rotate the button to left until it comes off. This button cannot be left attached as when the LaCie device is installed the PM's Alu door opening mechanism will contact and interfer with the button and engage and press it down. Obviously this will make the LaCie device (and of course the removed Apple SuperDrive) think the tray needs opening.
    13. Leave the jumper on the LaCie device in its default "Master" location. This should be the right-most two-pin position looking at the rear of the LaCie device.
    14. Almost there - attach power connector and flat wire ribbon to rear of LaCie device and press the flat wire ribbon onto the sticky grey pad and slide the LaCie device into its holding slots by aligning those black screw feet with the slots. You may need to guide the other end of the wire ribbon thru the lower opening to the motherboard. Once the LaCie is in place connect the wire ribbon to the motherboard.
    14. Relatch the plastic levers to secure the LaCie device firmly in place.
    15. All done - so replace the plastic and metal side panel, reconnects things up and power on the PM. Go straight to the ASP and make sure the LaCie device is recognized and all the info is being displayed correctly. It will show Burn Supprt of Yes (Unsupported). Don't worry, once you install the included LaCie software is will show "Yes (Vendor Supported)".
Total time taken was around 2 hrs as I had to pause several times trying to figure out how to remove the SuperDrive with care and without any instructions to go by.
My LaCie - LaCie DL DVD±RW Internal Drive with LightScribe E-IDE, with Double Layer cost me $45 from Buy.com and it does come with two disc blanks - a Verbatim LightScribe 1x-52x CD-R 700MB and a Verbatim 16x SL DVD+R.
I recorded all the gory details from the LaCie device before installing it. Here's that info.
