Lightweight APs not receiving IP address following controller upgrade

Hi guys,
I have a 5508 controller, just upgraded from 6.0.182 to 7.0.98.0. Also LAG was switched off directly after upgrade.
Since the upgrade none of the 1142 LAPs are associating with the controller. I can see they are being issued IPs by the internal DHCP but putting a console cable and watching I am getting:
Not in Bound state.
*May  4 11:41:17.759: %CAPWAP-3-ERRORLOG: Not sending discovery request AP does not have an Ip !!
*May  4 11:41:17.759: %CAPWAP-5-DHCP_RENEW: Could not discover WLC using DHCP IP. Renewing DHCP IP.
Nothing changed on switches... driving me nuts... Can anyone shed some light?
One Ap prior to the upgrade was on a static IP and that connected through without any problem, (it was an 1131 though, but I dont think that is the issue...)
Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi Scott, thanks for the assist.
I have installed the FUS image... we were only ever using one port, (port 1), and I have confirmed that the management interface is set to that. Also reset the AP but no change in behaviour.
I can see the internal DHCP server allocating addresses, then reissuing them one minute later...
AP on boot up gave this:
*Mar  1 00:13:19.761: %CDP-4-DUPLEX_MISMATCH: duplex mismatch discovered on GigabitEthernet0 (not full duplex), with Science_Prep-2950-24 FastEthernet0/24 (full duplex).

*Mar  1 00:13:19.761:  -Verify the required power-injector is installed on this port: WS-C2950G-24-EI(Fas 0/24).
*Mar  1 00:13:19.761:  -If a power-injector is installed, issue the command:"power inline negotiation injector installed"
*Mar  1 00:13:26.940: %CAPWAP-3-ERRORLOG: Not sending discovery request AP does not have an Ip !!
nothing changed in the switch cab from before the upgrade...

From log i know that 802.1x passed, while dhcp don't send ip address. It seems that the local vlan id is 0 while in reality is 3... WHY ? i don't understand.
Someone can help me to find the problem? i think the problem is on the network, the dhcp ( the corporate router) is directly connected to the ap.

Are you setting your FlexConnect native vlan and the wlan to vlan mapping?  You also need to make sure you have the ip helpers setup and that dhcp is working.  I would configure a switch port to a vlan that the wireless users is suppose to be on locally at that site and connect a laptop to that port and make sure that the laptop gets an address.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Flexconnect Local Switching Hosts Do Not Receive IP Addresses

    Hello,
My WLC software version is 7.4.110.0. I have a branch office in my lab. The AP in my branch is configured as flexconnect with native VLAN of 700. The SSID that I have in the branch office is configured to do local switching. The show wlan is added below.
My tunneled SSID still working and I can still receive IP addresses from it. My issue is last week I have the Flexconnect working with no problem, then this morning I can connect to the SSID, but I'm not receiving IP addresses for my test wireless clients.
    Thanks

  • APs not getting IP addresses on Server 2008r2

Has anyone seen this?  We had about 30 APs drop off the network after a controller upgrade and had to be manually assigned an address.  We found that the APs are DHCP and have a reservation in the excluded range of the scope.  In the new version of DHCP in Server 2008r2, even with a reservation in an excluded range, DHCP will not issue those addresses to clients.  Deleting the reservation and letting the AP find a valid address in the range didn't work either.

Where are your APs?  Are they directly connected to your 2106, or are they connected to a switch like normal?
Assuming connected to a switch, the WLC config is irrelevant to an AP getting an IP address.  Whatever vlan your APs are in, they'll do a broadcast dhcp request and you'll need an ip helper-address or something to get it to your dhcp server..............
So do you see any kind of dhcp request make it to your server?
If this is directly connected APs, then perhaps someone else on the forum can share thier experience with this?

  • 5760 guest network not receiving IP address

I'm testing a pair of 5760s for a near-term production rollout.  I have the dot1x employee wlan working, but am having trouble with the guest web-auth wlan.  We have a foreign controller with connected APs and an anchor controller in the DMZ.  We're using an external redirect to the ISE guest portal.  ISE is working with our production equipment and hasn't been changed.  However, I'm not able to get an IP address assignment to test the ISE redirect.  When I remove all of the web-auth configuration, I'm getting an IP address without issues.  My configuration is attached below, and would appreciate an extra set of eyes.

Have you tried this by enabling DHCP snooping for the vlan 330 on your 5760  & trust 5760 uplink ? In the below I have assume 10G port of 5760 is map to a etherchannel (Po1). Otherwise trust the physical interface.

    ip dhcp snooping vlan 330
    interface Port-channel x

  • Apple devices not receiving IP address

    Hello everyone,
I searched for a resolution to my problem but couldn't find one so hopefully I can get some help here.
We have a 2504 controller (Code 7.0.220.0) deployed with 7 LAPs.  We have a few SSIDs, both with WPA/WPA2 configured.  There is an external DHCP server that all clients get their IP address from.  Laptops can connect to these SSIDs with no problem.
Lately tho, no APPLE devices (iphone 4, 4s, 5, ipads, etc) can get an IP address.  They are all stuck in the DHCP_REQD state.  I ran some debugs and I see that an APPLE device keeps getting a DHCPOFFER with an IP address but the APPLE device never accepts.  Has anyone ever had this issue ?
Here is the debug of the client getting DHCP offers but never accepting:

I saw in another thread that disable WPA/TKIP can work, however this isn't an association issue because they association just fine, they just can get an IP address.
Any help would be great.  Thanks!

    Hey all,
Thanks again everyone for the help.  Turns out after a lot of packet captures and pointless calls with TAC, I found the issue was a bug with the ASA firewall.
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuh79288
The DHCP lease time to Apple devices was 0 seconds (might be due to the fact that Apple devices request Options 119 and 252).  The fix was configure "dhcprelay timeout 60" on the firewall.
Makes no sense I know but it fixed it.

  • IPod Touch Not Receiving DNS Address

For the past week or so, my iPod Touch has not been receiving a DNS address from the wireless router in my workplace. The router is a Netgear RangeMax WPN824, currently using WPA-PSK encryption. The iPod indicates that it successfully connects to the router, but it does not have any internet connectivity in Safari, Mail, or any other internet-required apps, and when I check on the wireless connection, it does not have a DNS address assigned.
I have no trouble connecting to the wireless network using my laptop, and the IP configuration on my laptop indicates that the laptop gets a DNS address of 10.0.0.1. I've tried manually entering that address, as well as an OpenDNS address, into the wireless settings on the iPod, with no success.
My iPod Touch is running the 2.0.2 firmware, but one of my friends who uses the 1.1.x firmware is also unable to get any connectivity. Any suggestions, anyone?

Same here! All the other computers (MacBook, Gateway Vista desktop, husband's Toshiba XP laptop and my old Mac notebooks) on my wi-fi network are connecting just fine (using a Time Capsule as my router), but my iPod Touch either can't see my network or if it does, rejects my password (even though I enter it exactly the same way as on my other machines that do connect successfully). I went to Settings and there is no DHCP address or DNS server info; and numerous resets of the Touch's network settings were no help. I haven't called AppleCare (they're never open when I have the time) and am afraid they will tell me to update the TimeCapsule's firmware or AirPort Utility--which I did last week and promptly killed my network till I reverted to the previous versions.
I have all these fun killer apps but can't get online except with a computer. (Last resort is to see if I can get on to a wi-fi hotspot). I just paid ten bucks and killed 3 hours to break my iPod Touch. Is this an attempt by Apple to get us to buy yet another device or even an iPhone (which I DON'T want because my phone service is expensive enough as it is).

  • Windows (XP) not receiving IP address from LAN port on Airport Extreme

I have a DSL modem connected to the AEBS WAN port. Three computers (one Windows laptop, one emac, and one powerbook) can successfully connect to the internet wirelessly through the AEBS. The remaining desktop PC, running Windows XP, normally connects to the LAN port on the AEBS and there are no problems.
Suddenly, the desktop (always configured to get ip addresses automatically using DHCP) is not getting an IP address from the AEBS. I've confirmed this via IPconfig, and the address is 169..... The Windows error message is "limited or no connectivity."
When the desktop is connected directly to the DSL modem, however, it works just fine. Of course this isn't a satisfactory fix, as it means the DSL modem is no longer connected to the AEBS WAN port, and none of the wireless computers have internet access.
I've determined that the problem is not in the LAN port itself, as my powerbook successfully connects via ethernet through the AEBS LAN port.
I've also updated the AEBS firmware to 5.7.
Any suggestions on how to fix this. As I mentioned, the problem occurred overnight.

Try using System Restore to set the computer back to a time when it was working.

  • Why am I not receiving email to followed questions?

I am subscribed to 'email me when a followed question has been answered', but I never get an email. Any question I post I never get an email to say there have been answers, I used to, but no longer. Why is this and how can I change it. It's time wasting to have to manually check my questions. Apple support communities used to be brilliant, nowadays they seems a pain to navigate ... general moan over.

I think I felt your pain at the BIG / SWITCH. I kicked the SiteWare by ::
going to Prefs and switching the buttons off & on several times & saving changes, then...
go find a post you had followed prior to the B / S. Click Following/Follow several times.
That seemed to do the trick.I don't know whether one or the other or both are required.
Additionally. As I said to md..... in another thread just like this one
The SiteWare seems to make a definite distinction between Authored, Participating & Following.
Appears that for notification purposes, Authored & Following get notices automatically, while Participating does NOT.
You WILL get notices of Replies to your posts even if you don't follow the thread, i.e., Participating but not Following
I have made it a habit to be sure and Follow every thread I reply to, thus circumventing that attribute. I am running a little test with this post to see if P not F has been surreptitiously fixed. I think maybe it has but other replies to you but not me should prove one way or another.

  • N80ie Not Receiving IP Address

I have a N80ie with the Wireless Wizzard installed. Works like a charm with most WiFi networks except for my home network.
At home I have ADSL with a D-Link AP. I have NO PROBLEM connecting to the WiFi AP; however, neither the AP nor the ADSL router 'see' the phone in the network, not even whhen I use a fixed IP or reserved DHCP entry. Its driving me CRAZY cuz I want to use Gizmo!
    HELP!

i got a serious question. i have the same phone as yours but i dont know how to use it, like the wi fi. i dont know how to set it up. can you help me.. appreciate it... thanks!!!

  • Clients not receiving dchp addresses from server

Our dhcp server (windows 2012) is failing to issues addresses to the pc's. Once the lease has expired on the pc (user goes on holiday for a week) the machine will fail to pick up an ip address on the users return.
The event viewer on the server reads "IP address range of scope is 95 percent full with only 7 IP address available"
I have gone through the dhcp scope of which there are 94 exclusions and i have a further 39 machines which require addresses.
On a class C subnet i should have far more than 7 addresses available.
Any thoughts as to what might be at fault here.

Just completed a major network upgrade... So decided it was time to stack some ofmy old switches! Can anyone date some of these things? And some before and after shots: The first one is of a distribution cabinet (2 x 10Gig Fiber link ag. to server room) on the other side of our site, the last two are of the core cabinet in my server room. Will take some more pictures later.

  • Not receiving imap email after ios6 upgrade

I have an iPhone 4S which I upgraded to iOS6 2 days ago.  Prior to the upgrade, I had 2 imap email accounts and one pop account set up on my phone that were all working fine.  Immediately after the upgrade one of the imap accounts stopped receiving emails (I have tested sending from that account, and it works fine.)  When I attempt to retrieve new emails, after the phone tries to download messages, I get the following error message:
Cannot Get Mail.  The mail server "mail.[my mail server].com" is not responding.  Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings.
I have checked my settings and they appear to be unchanged (a parallel line of inquiry is to see if my server is actually having problems.) I even changed one, to see if that would make any difference either with the new setting, which I doubted, or once I returned it to the original setting.  I have also turned the phone off completely and turned it back on.
    Any suggestions?

Thanks Andrew.  I was afraid to try this, but I just did and it worked like a charm.

  • Cisco 891 not getting IP address with DHCP with latest IOS

    Hi,
I have a few Cisco 891 routers that are configured as DHCP clients on the WAN interface.
For some reason when I boot the router with a late IOS, the router is not receiving an address.
It works just as expected with the older IOSes.
    Any ideas of what changed?
This is how the interface is configured:
    interface FastEthernet8
     ip address dhcp
     no ip redirects
     no ip unreachables
     no ip proxy-arp
     duplex auto
     speed auto
     no cdp enable
    This IOS does not work:
    c890-universalk9-mz.154-3.M2.bin
    While these do work:
    c890-universalk9-mz.150-1.M7.bin
    c890-universalk9-mz.151-2.T2.bin
    c890-universalk9-mz.152-1.T1.bin
Doing a "show ip interface brief" shows that FastEthernet8 is unassigned with the affected IOS.
With the older IOSes there is an IP address.
I had to downgrade two routers due to this issue, and did not have  plenty of time to troubleshoot.
Both of the routers are connected to DSL from the same ISP...
Anyone seen anything like this  before?

Add another one to the list.
I have a MacBookPro3,1 that connects to WIFI no problem. It used to connect to ethernet when I originally bought it, however I've been using WIFI exclusively for the past 2 years.
Recently I had a need to connect via ethernet and it wouldn't work at home (apple airport router). I next tried connecting via ethernet at a friends house using a linksys WRT54G, no dice either. I have the computer in the lab today (University Network) and I get the same error. 3 different locations, 3 different routers, all same problem. It used to connect to home and university networks ethernet right away.
    IP address assigned is 169.xxx.xxx.xxx - subnet - 255.255.0.0
no other info. It's showing up as connecting to the network, but unable to communicate with DHCP. It does work if I enter all of the information in manually.
At first I thought I had messed something up in networking preferences as I tend to play around with things alot. However I did a complete system format, and fresh install of OSX Lion and I still have the same problem, without any of my meddling around to confuse things.
    What gives?
