Ligic Board Crash

Early-2011 MacBook Pro owners report hardware failures & system crashes 2.0 quad core i7
To me, absolutely disaster for me. An authorized Apple shop in Phnom Penh Cambodia charges me $550 for replacing the Logic Board. The same MacBook Pro, my hard drive was crash (changed), my battery death (changed), now come to logic board. So disappointed, do I need to extend Apple Care every year or need to change MacBook PRO model so often or ...?

It is best to purchase the Apple Care. It will give you peace of mind for 3 years. One repair pays for the AC. The AC is good for 3 years from the original date of purchase.

  • IPhone 4 Spring Board crashes when I slide the top menu

Every time I slide down the top menu, Spring Board crashes: it appears that it is resetting, showing the black screen with the white apple logo for a few seconds, then the screen goes black for a few seconds and then iOS is back, like the crash didn't happen.
Before this starts (last Friday), I didn't install anything new.
I would like to know if anyone have noticed the same and if there is a solution, other than go to Apple.
In Diagnostis & Usage, the log says this:

    Hi andreiaspf,
If you are having issues with your Springboard failing to work on your iPhone, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
Force an app to close in iOS
Next, I would try restarting and if needed resetting the iPhone -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • K9-VGM Board crashes even in BIOS

I have a K9-VGM baord that has been crashing. I have replaced the PSU for a more powerful one, but it still crashes randomly. After a crash, the front panel "power" LED is flashing at c. 1Hz.
The crash has even happened in the BIOS screen (i.e. not HD/ OS). In that test the temperature of the CPU was maybe 60 deg C with the temp setting set to disabled, but had been at 65 +5 degC.
I can find nothing in the manual to indicate what this could be.
    Any guidance would be appreciated.
    Thank you for your help.

  • New logic board causing CRASH?

I just got my G5 back from the shop - the logic board crashed, so i got it replaced.
Since getting it back, my machine is completely freezing on me regularly - particularly when I use Mail.
A friend mentioned that this may have to do with the new motherboard having conflicts of some sort.
I am desperate and working on a deadline - can anyone help me!
    PowerPC G5 Mac OS X (10.3.9)

take it back, all I can say.
sorry to hear about your problems.

  • DVD drive not recognized, then all out crash. HELP!

I was watching a DVD, and then I got an email notification which caused the DVD player to freak out and freeze. I restarted the computer to find out that the DVD drive was no longer recognized. Restarted a couple more times...no luck. Now's I've got a DVD stuck in there. So I open up the computer to make sure all the wires are connected. I push the power button AND NOTHINGG! The little power light goes on for about 5 seconds, then turns off. All I hear is a small 'click'. I tried a couple methods to fix it, and only succeeded in getting the DVD drive to spin, but no power in the computer itself. And now it's back to light/'click'/nothing. Am I beyond help here? Do I need a new computer? I'm so stressed out!
Oh and if it comes down to needing a new mac, what would everyone suggest I get besides a mini. I am thinking of a macbook pro, but the price is way high for my funds right now. I also like the imac, but my concern on that is whether or not you can upgrade it after the fact.

I took my mac in to the store to find out the logic board crashed on me. Way too expensive to fix since it's about the same cost as the mini itself. I'm just going to buy a new macbook. (I realize I'm spending more than it would to get a new logicbaord, but I want a new laptop!)

  • Logic Board Fails- again.

    Hi everyone.
I have an iBook G3, purchased in Sept. of '03. The logic board crashed in Dec. of '04, and again in March of '05. Both times, I had the notebook sent in, and apple replaced the logic board free of charge, under the logic board replacement program.
Now, however, it has failed again. And, I'm getting a little fed up. I'm wondering what you think I should do- send it in for a 3rd replacement (which it's still under the 3 yr- policy until Sept), or try to fight for a replacement of the computer altogether. I'm afraid that if I get it replaced, it's just going to crash again outside of the 3 year plan, and then apple won't do anything. Should I attempt to demand a new machine now?
Times like these are soo frustrating. Mac's are great, but when they have problems, it's like the whole thing falls apart and there's never an easy tweak or fix.
    Thanks for your opinions...
    Melanie Patterson

I was kind of afraid of that. I'm not surprised.
When you get it back, avoid picking it up by the left front corner alone. If you're going to pick it up with one hand (as I usually do), pick it up in the center, under the trackpad.
The theory is that picking it up by the left front corner causes enough flex in the case that it puts pressure on the logic board and causes the solder on the graphics chip to let loose. So, if you can avoid doing that, it may help your iBook last longer.
Have you seen the new MacBooks (just announced yesterday)? Maybe your G3 will last you long enough to save up for one of those little sweet things. I'm looking at them longingly.

  • Early 2011 MacBook Pro logic board upgrade question

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro 17'. Will a late 2011 logic board fit in the unibody of an early 2011? My logic board crashed and I'm looking to install a new one myself. I just need to see if I can upgrade mine at all. I want to purchase a logic board with a faster processor and hopefully not as prone to the GPU failure. Any recommendations?

You have the problem discussed in a number of discussions on this forum, most notably here -> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0.
Basically the GPU in the machine was poorly soldered onto the logic board. If you take the machine into an Apple Store, they will recommend a logic board replacement. This, however, will not permanently fix the problem. The only permanent fix is to have the GPU 'reballed' - this will cost about $160 and some services offer up to a year's warranty on their work.
I had the problem back in January and, as I was under AppleCare, had my logic board replaced gratis. Once I'm left with no warranty, I will have the GPU reballed.
Take a look at some of the discussion and see some of the photos which are just like yours. The only remedy is the reball.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Mac continually crashes several minutes after booting.

I inadvertently posted this in the "numbers" thread" so thought I'd repost my same problem in the right group. here it is.
I just had my logic board and graphics card replaced at an Apple store. That was awesome, however, shortly thereafter, my Mac started to continually crash with it's grey screen. Sometimes it would crash as it was booting up. Other times it would crash a few minutes into an operation. But then there are times when it runs just fine for hours!
I have noticed that if I let it sit on the log in screen for a few minutes it does seem to run fine,,,however, it has also crashed while sitting in the log in screen.
Is this a sign that my boot drive is going? After all, it is over three years old! Or is it something to do with the new logic board? Any suggestions would help before I buy a new hard drive. Thanks in advance.
    Doug

Thanks for the suggestion. My apple care had run out a week before the logic board crashed but the Apple Store replaced it anyway. However, it has been a little over a month so I was worried that they may charge me. But it is worth a shot. Gotta have my Mac!
One person suggested it my be bad ram and I thought that it might me my hard drive going, but a trip to the Genius Bar could find it all out.
    Thanks
    Doug

  • External Apple Keyboards crash the MBP since Leopard -cause found

Since I upgraded the MBP to Leopard, I have had a problem where the External Apple USB key-
board crashes the machine on plug-in. The same thing with the External Bluetooth Keyboard.
The gray curtain would fall, every time, requiring a restart.
While typing up a message to post here, I wanted to accumulate all the details on resident
software, to tell you the full story; turns out I had an old "DoubleCommand" program loaded
at startup, even if I had stopped using it a long time ago.
DoubleCommand is a keyboard re-mapper that I found very useful at some point.
Once this was removed, the problem went away. So instead of another nag, I have written
this little note to register the problem gone.
It may be possible to find a more recent version of DoubleCommand, one that collaborates
with Leopard. I don't use it anymore, so I didn't look for a newer one.

Well, it appears to not be Back to my Mac after all, it appears to be related to Tunnelblick or the version of openvpn its running. Although I have turned the vpn on and over a few times over the last day and everything was fine, today I came home from the office, turned it on, did some work and then turned it off and boom...default route wiped out. • Computer crashed. I used Install Disk 1 Panther to reboot.

When it got to the install screen "Select Destination" it could not locate a volume. Has my mother board crashed.

Before you do much of anything, from the 10.3 Installer menu, choose "Disk Utility". \[Utilities Menu in 10.4.] An Installer-compatible version of Disk Utility will load from the CD.
If your drive does not show up at all in Disk Utility, then your drive has likely died. If it shows up, note any error messages. Select the drive and choose Repair. Note any error messages. DO NOT Choose Initialize, or all your data will definitely be lost. If your drive shows up, and reports a reasonable Make&Model and capacity, it may still be repairable with additional Utilities.

  • 15" MBP (late 2011) vs 13" MBP (late 2013) - graphics

I have an older i7 15" macbook pro 2011, which was custom upgraded with 8GB RAM and a 240GB Mercury Extreme Pro 6G SSD. Sadly this has just suddenly suffered from a logic board crash. So im looking to upgrade to a newer models, but trying to detemrine which model is best.
5-6 days a week this is being carried around on my shoulders for work, for 3-6 hours of transit each day. Ouch.
50% of the time this will be used for emails
40% of the time this will be used for photoshop, lightroom, and illustrator. Nothing too intensive, but large library of all RAW photos.
10% of the time this will be used for viewing 3D files via Meshlap or eDrawings. No editing, just simple open, view, spin around, etc.
    Option 1 - Macbook AIR
Ideally, I would love to get an air, as it is super light. But it is also sadly super weak from what I have seen. So it is out of the question.
    Option 2 - 15" Macbook Pro
I could go with the new 15" maxed out, but it costs a fortune and I think it is overkill for what i need. Plus, while it is 1 pound lighter than my previous 15", it is still heavy to lug around everywhere.
    Option 3 - 13" Macbook Pro
Alternatively I think a 13" Macbook Pro maxed out would be pretty good too. It is smaller, and much lighter (2 pounds) than my previous 15". My biggest concern is the graphics power of the "Iris".
I know the 15" has the Iris Pro, which is better than the Intel HD3000, but not sure if the Iris (non pro) is also better? But im guessing for the standard emails and run of the mill 2D work, the Iris is probably ok, right? Or am i wrong on this?
And more improtantly, is the Iris capable of handling the 3D file viewing smoothly, compared to the AMD 6770M of the previous 15"? I did test open some 3D files on my wifes 13" 2011, which only has the HD3000, and it was a bit choppy. But if the Iris (non-pro) is much more powerful than the HD3000, then maybe it is sufficent?
Any thoughts on this? Appreciate it!

No one can comment on if the 13" maxed out could handle reviewing 3D files?

  • Removed iMac hard drive - Recovery on a PC?????

So recently my iMac g5's logic board crashed. I had a few months prior installed a 500gig hard drive. I bought housing for the hard drive and intend on using it as an external. The only other computer I have in my house to recover files is a PC. When I plug my external into the PC, it is not recognized. Does it need re-formatting and is there a way to do it and not lose everything?
    THanks!

Hmmm, I downloaded the trial version and when I click on Explore Mac Discs, it opens my computer, and I still dont see my external drive...? Am I doing something wrong?

  • How to troubleshoot "Exit Code: 6" error when installing CS5 (Mac)

So hey. It's been a long, long couple of days trying to figure out this error, and even longer (and more frustrating) trying to actually find someone from Adobe who can actually give me customer support. You think they'd have a bit more streamlined approach when taking care of their customers, but I guess that's why I am here, so lets find out
Basically, I'm trying to re-install my CS5 mAster Collection I got a few years back onto my MacBook Pro. I got it about 3-4 years ago from my college as a "teachers an student licensing," and it worked great.Amazing. Hallelujah.
Now fast forward to about 4 months ago; my Mac's Logic Board crashes. I spend a lot of time and money recovering data via a 3rd party data company, and FINALLY get my mac fixed with all files intact.
Problem is, all of my CS5 programs are gone, although i still have all the files I created with them. So I go to reinstall my Cs5; I still have all the disks (in mint condition) and my serial-code. I insert Application Disc 1 and enter my serial code, the installation gets to the point where it asks for Application Disc 2. I insert disc 2, and after awhile my Mac spits the Disc out and the Adobe Installation Manager says the installation was complete, but with errors, and only 2 of all the CVS5 programs were installed. When I checked the error log on the installation manager, it stated "Exit Code: 6"
I have looked up this code many time, but i just can't understand how to trouble shoot it. I'm not a programmer or a computer wiz, so some of the multiple multi-step process Adobe suggests for troubleshooting are beyond my ability or understanding. ALL I NEED IS SOME HELP; clarifying steps to trouble shoot this, understanding error code:6, advice on how to fix it, even a way for me to get in contact with and ACUTAL person from Adobe Customer Serivice.
Please, I am a Graphic Arts Major in college, and I can't afford to have this continue to be an issue. HELP ME.

Did you remove the bits of the failed install before going on? Try creating a new admin account for the install. If that doesn't work, try doing a fresh download from Adobe's site. Even if you bought the boxed version you can install the trial and enter your serial number.

If mainboard won't even start or you have stability issues don't consider flashing bios as you'd have a good chance of bricking the system. If the board crashes while flashing you can use it as a paper weight.
Just install one stick of ram and make sure it is stable before trying to flash.
