Hey Got My 30Gb Ipod Today (christmas), Everything was fine until itunes uploads songs i didnt want to go on my ipod. So i deleted the files and my ipod went thro the "do not disconnect" stage. So i waited for a while but still same error message was shown (I was told a different way of deleting the files than just deleting them from your library, somthing about deleting hidden files :/)
So out of desperation i dissconnected my ipod hoping to resolve the problem. The Songs were deleted off my ipod but as soon as my ipod connected to pc the "do not disconnect" message appeared. So i've tried a few things (reinstalling ipod software, resetting my ipod) but none of these work.
Now when i connect my ipod same "do not disconnect" message appears but when itunes loads up the error message "itunes cannot read the contents of the pod, use software updater application to restore back to factory settings"
So basically i would like to know if there is a possible way of fixing this or is my ipod ...gone..

By the way the tunes did seem to load onto my ipod before the itunes error message appeared. Now the error message has appeared my ipod doesnt show up on the itunes

i would be able to carry on with it fine if it wasnt for my ipod not showing up on itunes and the error message
"itunes cannot read the contents of the pod, use software updater application to restore back to factory settings"

ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it. You will have to contact them. Since you are not the original purchaser of the phone and do not have service with whatever carrier it might be locked to, it is highly unlikely you will get it unlocked.
Since it was hacked to unlock it originally, it is highly likely that the phone will become a brick if you attempt to apply a legitimate unlock.
Actually, it is probably already a brick.
There is nothing we can suggest other than to google "iphone dfu mode" and try doing a restore in DFU mode to see if that can bring it back to life. It may. If so, you will then need to work with the carrier it's locked to or sell it and buy a new phone.

I am assuming that this installation was on an internal HDD.
Did you use a Full Retail Version and not a computer specific or update version to install?
What method/option did you use to do the basic installation?
Did your Repair Disk Permissions before and after installation.
I am not suggesting that you did or did not do any of these things. Just trying to establish a base.

I can't figure out how to parametrize my SQL statement - lil help please?

I was deleting records via the string-concatenation method, which I've come to understand is bad, due to security any possibly other issue. I want very much to parametrize my delete statement, but I just can't see to get it to work
The code below is my best shot at it - it returns an Oracle exception about "invalid table name". I assume that means the the substitution of the parameter for the value simply hasn't been performed, so the database is trying to process literally ":oracleTable", and the like.
Can someone please set me straight with this?

I guess I was thinking of parameters oversimplistically as just a canned-search-and-replace-text function or something like that.

I just got my iPhone 4 & need a lil help. May I please get some help?

Ok...I finally got home & am able to play around w/ my new iPhone 4.
I logged onto my iTunes account and a screen popped up saying "An iPhone has previously been linked to this computer"..Then I get 2 options:
-Set up as new iPhone
-Restore from the back up of
And then I get the options to restore from my fiancee's iTouch and the 1 I used to have.
By the way...we've never had iPhones before so for It to say that 1 was previously registered is odd...we've only had iTouch's.
Anyways...I would like to transfer my apps. over.
What do I do here?
Do I resore from my iPod touch that I had or do I set up as a new phone?
And If I set up as a new phone...can I still bring my apps over?
Help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Upgraded to 10.3.9 and now Safari won't open, lil help pls

I finally took the big step and upgraded from 10.3.8 to 10.3.9, did all the right things, disconnected my FW External HD, ran Cocktail, ran disk utility, repaired permissions; BUT, since I've completed all the updates and the 10.3.9 upgrade, I cannot launch Safari.
I use Firefox and it works like a champ, but Safari just will not open. I've tried trashing the pref list for safari and that didn't help either. Any help out there?

Umm... can you tell me how to take songs from my ipod and put them onto my computer?
i thought this would be easy but i cant figure it out.. ive tried click and draging the songs to the itune library and to my music folder but that doesent work.. so plz help.

Dragging songs from iPod to iTunes won't work.

There's also another method. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), there's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
The above methods may depend on what version of iTunes you are running.
If none of these methods work, try CopyPod which also supports the transfer of videos from iPod to computer.

HP Printer connected to Dell prints junk from my Macbook, lil' help please

Home network w/ HP 832 connected to Dell desktop. When I send a print job to it (wireless connection-not directly connecte), all I get is 3-4 blank pages spit out followed by 5-6 pages of what looks like print code and a bunch of O's and X's. Huge waste of paper.
I'm guessing that I either have it set wrong or the printer is obsolete. The printer works just fine with the Dell.
Help would be appreciated.

You need to use a CUPS driver with the CUPS built-in Windows Printing protocol. Check here:

Still in love with my Pearl, but need a lil help....

Hi All! I LOVE my Pearl and have had it for 3 years now, although during that time it has been replaced twice.   It is no longer under warranty and is being held together by scotch tape and TLC. I won't give it up, even though I have been bribed with I-Phone replacements!
Here is my question. I recently downloaded a few apps from the BlackBerry App World, but receive a few conflicts with two of the apps.
1. Dictionary.com App: When I click on the icon, I get the error message: "Server could not be reached! Please check radio or try at a later time..." (How do I check 'my radio'?)
2. POYNT App: Sometimes it will read "cell-site location" and works great, but mostly it reads "GPS not supported" at the very top of the screen.
These applications seem worthwhile if I can get them to work. Does anyone have any suggestions on resolving these two issues?
Oh wait. Might as well add one (OK, two ) more question(s) while I have your eyes....
3. How can I get any YouTube videos to work? I get the error message "The protocol specified is not supported by the handheld. Please try a different URL".
4. Is there a way to add separate ring tones for different address contacts? I thought there was a way, but do not seem to find it.

1. Not sure there... the Dictionary.com app must user the internet to reach it's server.
Check this, look at Options > Advanced > TCP. What entries to you have listed there?
Who is your carrier?
2. You don't say what exact model of Pearl you have. The base 8100 pearl does not have GPS, not does the 8120. The 8110 does. So, for the first two, Poynt must use your cell tower location to work. You might look at your Poynt Options and see if you can turn off GPS location and use only cell tower location.
3. Try your browser to m.youtube.com
If I recall correctly, it was a later OS release on the Pearl which enabled streaming video viewing. What is your Operating System loaded to your device?
Look at Options > About, third line down beginning with a "v.4.xxx"

4. Profiles > scroll down to Exceptions. You set the overall ringtone for ALL calls, but you can set an "exception" for those callers you wish to have a specific ringtone.

I have this problem too. I had not seen this thread you linked to above before... but in my one reboot test (which shoud be taken with a bucket of salt since my machine sometimes shuts down okay) it worked great. It would seem that 65kid's workaround is effective. I'm going to reboot again to see if this is consistent. I'll udpate if it hangs.
Edit: So it didn't hang, but it looked like it was going to. Often the session will seem to start to exit, but the root window will remain (the background). It did just this, and then after a second, continued to the printing of the shutdown messages. Success!
Edit2: I guess I should note the actual fix so that others don't have to follow that link. As putting the workaround in more than one place is probably optimal. So you need to add "TimeoutStopSec=2" to the [Service] section of the [email protected]. This can be done either by the .include function of unit files, or by the drop-in replacement functionality via /etc/systemd/system/user-session@<youruser>.d/<added-config>.conf. I would imagine that you could play around with the value of the timeout. Systemd's time capabilities are pretty extensive, so I imagine that you could actually configure it down to the ms here.

A LIL HELP Please????!?!?

I Just Recently Bought a (JVC-GZ HD7) Harddisk HandCamcorder and Began Recording Major Events... I was shooting(FULL HD 1920/1080)... Just about 2hrs worth of footage was imported into my FCP and THE RAW FOOTAGE TAKES ** NEARLY 2 HOURS TO RENDER... WOULD it have anyTHing to do with the Fact that THe FIles are in ((TOD)) OR MOV##TOD I'm not sure if that IS taken by FCPro and IF not ... IS THER A PROGRAM THAT I CAN USE TO CONVERT INTO AN EDITable FILE or easier....

The CAMCORDER you PURCHASED records in a highly comPRESSED FORMAT that was originally intended as a delivery format - NOT and editing format. That doesn't mean you can't edit it ... it just means more work and less quality than if you HAD pURCHASed a camcorder that records in a BETTER FORMAT.
I WOULD NOT recommend a camera of this TYPE for Recording Major Events.
You may WANT TO try MPEG Streamclip to convert the RAW FOOTAGE into something more edit friendly. Or check JVC's WEBSITE TO SEE IF THEY HAVE SOFTWARE AVAILABLE FOR CONVERSION.

Importing a new file to CS3... HELP!!!!!

I have installed Adobe premiere pro CS3. I'm just tryin to import a new file with the format .mpg but it always give me an error message which says "File format not supported".

Based on reading a LOT of problem reports, importing files from a DVD camcorder or other MPEG device, or Ripping DVD files rarely results in success in Premiere... do not be fooled by movie industry advertising into thinking that "DVD Quality Video" is suitable for EDITING... it is not... a DVD is designed to be for PLAYBACK only... and that includes trying to edit a Standard Def MPEG or VOB file!
You should also use WAV sound files, not the compressed MP3 format, To work with AC3 files in Premiere, it MAY work to copy the ad2ac3dec.dll file from the Encore DVD directory into the Premiere directory

New to mac.. need a little help

I am relatively new to macs and need a lil help understanding what's going on with my computer. I recently got a lend of a powerbook G4 from a friend and it has a tendency to freeze up completely and I have to just hold the power button until it turns off then it when I turn it back on it will work ok again sometimes for several hours without a hitch.
Also, sometimes instead of freezing up I'm just not able to type. I can do everything else with the mouse or open programs and such but when I try to type it just doesn't work (and again, restarting fixes the prob).
Looking for help .. if anyone knows why it may be doing this and/or how to fix it your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the Apple discussions.
First, check your hard drive free space. Click on the apple on the menu bar, about this mac, ata, and click on the hard drive under ata bus (DVD drive is listed there too). That will tell you the drive capacity and how much is available. You want 10% to 15% of the total capacity to be available for systems usage. If less than that, performance can slow to a crawl, and some of the issues you identified could be due to low free disk space.
Next, you should have a backup of the hard drive, if there's anything you want to keep.
Download the program OnyX from http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/download.html . Run the tasks on the cleaning and maintenance tabs. A number of people have found this helps clean up the hard drive and contributes to improved performance.

If, after cleaning your system and tuning it up, you're still having problems, please post back with specifics.

Dialog Boxes & Finder windows not the same contents

So I'm trying to upload a file to a website. It's usually a file I just created. The problem is, Safari doesn't seem to know the file exists unless I quit and re-launch it. I can see the file in the Finder. But the Safari dialog box doesn't have it. Strange eh? I've seen this before with other apps. I've even seen files appear in dialog boxes before my very eyes!
So my question: Is there some sort of dialog box software-bot that trolls up & down the file system looking for changed states (files/folders added/deleted)? If so, it's a slow bot (I said re^tar^ded, but it got censored - teehee). Or maybe it needs some coffee. But I don't know anything about said bot, or even if it's a bot. All I know is this: if it's gonna demand Starbucks, I'd rather spend my money on a Tiger update.

And please don't suggest I repair permissions, zap PRAM, reset NVRAM, reboot, press the CUDA switch or any of those other things I've tried 1000 times. I know generally what those things do, and what they fix, and they don't feel related to this issue.
Maybe a cron script somewhere can fix this? or pre-binding update? Actually trying pre-binding update now...

Hmmm, so it did work normal for awhile?
To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...
Open System Preferences>Accounts, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
Does Finder work in the new account?
