Limewire in iTunes?

I use limewire on my computer(a file transfer program) and it has suddenly appeared in my itunes side menu thing. I have been running both programs (limewire and itunes) for almost 6months now and have never had this happen until now. Thing is it's my brothers limewire music that shows up in it, not mine. How do I get rid of it?

This happened to me as well. I know I set no sharing when I got the computer of the box but wondered if one or all of the updates/new releases comes defaulted with sharing on.

  • How can i transfer songs from limewire onto itunes???

OK...so i have limewire and i dont know how to copy them into itunes i know that you like press shift and then drag it into itunes but i dont know the details of how to do it and i really nedd help. i beg of YOU
    thnx
    xoxoxo

the way i do it, and im a perfectionist so this might not interest you. but i always want my music files organized. so i dont copy right into iTunes. I go to the original file location where iTunes has stored all the other music, and i create a new folder for the songs that i am putting into iTunes. Then after i put the music in that folder, i drag that folder into iTunes. This way, I always know where that music is if i ever want to transfer it to another computer.

  • How do I remove Limewire from iTunes?

    Hi!
Being a polite person, I'm taking Dave Sawyer's (aka "Miss Manners") kind advice and posting a new question on this old topic.
Along with the plethora of other problems that have overtaken my iMac since the "upgrade" to OSX 10.5.7, iTunes is displaying unwanted Limewire connections. These are displayed as "shared libraries." This was apparently fallout after a Windows PC user on my (currently disabled) home network downloaded Limewire.
Understandably, since Limewire has a reputation as being used for less than legal purposes, I desire primarily to remove it and any vestige of it from my computer. Secondly, I'd like to be able to share iTunes between accounts on my iMac, as I used to be able to.
Specifically, I don't consider simply turning off "look for shared libraries" to be an answer. It seems akin to covering your eyes when you see you're going to crash your car.
I am able to stream music from these "shared libraries", and so have disabled sharing in iTunes Preferences. If anyone has an answer that will allow me to turn sharing back on with a certainty of not being "connected" to some anonymous strangers Limewire program, I'd truly appreciate it.
    Regards.

you could perhaps block port 3689 (iTunes Sharing) and 5353 (Bonjour) in your router to your cable network. That would probably block those libraries from appearing while still allowing sharing within your own home.
Many thanks to you both, Dave & Meg! Being a polymath rather than a code warrior (I'm somewhat dyslexic };) ), I appreciate your able assistance. And Meg, you're quite right about Miss Judith, and we need more folks with good manners.
I have seen reports that Limewire could possibly access http, and therefore data files, on Windows computers. As far as you know, could this be accomplished through the iTunes application and browser, and on a Mac?
I ask this because iTunes often links to Safari, and though not a Luddite, I'm suspicious of technology that's designed for an inherently less than honest purpose, such as Limewire. Could it exploit the above port for this purpose?

  • Limewire in itunes PLEASE HELP

i was looking online for the soundtrack to a movie i just watched to get the songlist and then buy it on itunes and then there was an option that came up on google that was a downloadable list so i clicked on it and it said you had to be logged in to whatever site it was.
so i closed that and kept looking.
but then when i pulled up itunes there was a limewire playlist in my itunes and i don't have limewire.
there were two explicit "songs" on the playlist that i did not download.
does this mean i have a virus!?
how do i get it off
    HELP

You may just be seeing the shared iTunes library from some other computer on your local network (cable networks and some DSLs are shared, so you can sometimes see computers in other houses). Go into the iTunes Sharing preference and turn off "look for shared music" and see if that playlist disappears. If you don't want to similarly be sharing your iTunes library with other computers, make sure that the "Share My Music" option is unchecked.
    Hope this helps.

  • Limewire + Itunes??

I recently had to nuke my computer and re-install everything. Though I have checked off the box in Limewire that says it will automatically download the songs into Itunes, none are showing up unless I find them and double click on them. It used to happen automatically. As soon as it was done downloading in Limewire it opened up in Itunes. Is the lastest Itunes messed up or am I missing something? HELP, this made life so much easier!!

So, let me see if I understand correctly... you wiped your hard drive clean, restored windows, reinstalled limewire, and never got itunes integration? are you currently using the latest version of limewire and itunes 9.0.2? if not, then there will be significant issues.

  • My itunes cant open?!

About two months back was the last time I remember my itunes working correctly. It was around the same time I downloaded Limewire. Whenever I tried to open it it would just show the user agreement page with "I agree" or "I decline" answers for about 2 seconds, and simply disappear.
Aggravated, I decided to unistall itunes numerous times and re install it, but it still didnt work. Now, I have purchased Norton Antivirus 2006 (believing it was possibly a virus) and then unistalled both Limewire and itunes. In this order, I decided to install Norton 2006 first, then Limewire, then itunes. I hoped that itunes would work this time, but to no suprise, the same problem arised. I feel so close to opening it up, yet this user agreement page won't allow me to pass through. Anything I can do?
    Dell   Windows XP

Norton doesn't do as good a job at catching Qoologic (and other adware) as other packages do. i've got NIS 2006 myself, and i've always supplemented it with focussed adware/spyware protection packages (AdAware, SpyBot S&D, and lately Ewido, since i thought it would be nice to be able to walk folks through using Ewido to catch the Qoologic thing).
... but if your QT is launching fine (not flashing a screen at you), you don't have Qoologic.
that leaves two other likely candidates. one is your Norton itself. we have more trouble with error message free itunes launch failure with NIS 2005 than NIS 2006, but 2006 has also been known to cause problems.
so try bbecker's NIS 2006 technique from this post:
bbecker1221: Re: Itunes doesn't start up after installing upgrade :SOLUTION
... but if no joy with that, let's check on this possibility, which can also cause similar symptoms to the ones you're getting:
iTunes for Windows doesn't open after upgrading

  • Itunes won't let me convert a 30 sec. song to AAC to make a ringtone.

it says "you can make various ringtones on itunes" or something like that when i click on it. lol.
i download my songs from limewire to itunes.

For iTunes purchased content that is also licensed by the record labels and copyright holders to be purchased and used as a ringtone, not for songs acquired illegally via a source such as Limewire.

  • Can't connect to music store after updating itunes; ?connection refused?

Can someone from itunes please help. i mean ****. i guess u guys don't think of the people in ur forums that have problems. i have a problem accessing the music store. it says the network connection was refused. please check ur settings...blah blah blah. anyway the point is there are tons of people with this problem, no solutions, end of story. and lots of people have been having this problem right after updating their itunes. WHATS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? just tell us how to fix our music store. then maybe people would actually still use itunes instead of limewire.

The iTunes Music Store uses both HTTP Port 80 and 443. Make sure both are open in any firewall, and also make sure that the following domains are exempted in any firewall/filtering software:
    phobos.apple.com
    phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net
You might want to completely shut down any firewall temporarily, just to see if that makes a difference. If you can then connect, you know it's a problem with your firewall.
Another possibility is an erroneous entry in the Hosts file. This tip from Mark Holly resolved problem for another poster (please note that I have not tried this fix so I cannot vouch for nor support the suggestion: I provide it only as a suggestion that worked for someone else):
NOTE: this will change a Windows operating system file. This could cause you problems if not done correctly.
Using Windows Explorer navigate to the following folder:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc.
In this folder is file called 'hosts'. Open it using Wordpad.
On the poster's pc there was in this file one long line. At the end of this line was "127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com:. phobos.apple.com is the web address for the music store. What "127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com" is doing is telling the pc to look for the web address only on the computer rather than the internet. By remove this section of the line and saving the changes you may then be able to access the music store without any problems.
IMPORTANT: Before making the changes to the hosts file I highly recommend making a backup of it. That way you can restore the original if other problems occur.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using LimeWire with your Nano

I just started downloading from Limewire because iTunes does not have all the songs I was looking for. I can't figure out how to get the songs onto my ipod. I see them listed under limewire in itunes but can't seem to get it on my ipod. Can anyone help?

Using Limewire to download copyrighted material from peer-to-peer file sharing networks is illegal, and cannot be discussed on Apple Discussions.

  • Lost library do to LimeWire

I have had itunes for probably less then a year and had around 773 songs in my library(20 were bought). I Dowloaded Limewire becasue itunes doesn't have some of the stuff i wanted. I have my audio stuff set on my computer so all audio opens with itunes. I started download songs from Limewire and when they were done i clicked to listen. Itunes opens up and this tab show up like when you hook your ipod up and it says ROBINS Limewire itunes. Now i'm sure that sounds fine but all the stuff i had included the stuff i bought from itunes got removed and now only the limewire songs are thier. i like itunes better than limewire but i really don't wanna import all those cd's again and where did my 20$ worth of songs go. Now i don't have what i payed for please help me out here

    Hiya Robin.
I won't get into the potential problems with p2p apps except to say:
Sometimes they can give you nasties that can do bad things to your PC.
Whil it is possible you picked up something like that, I think it more likely that the script in the application you were using just messed up iTunes and the music is still there.
The easiest will be to look for the purchased music. Do a search for files ending in ".m4p". Those are the purchased files. The rest end in either ".m4a" or ".mp3". This will let you know that the music is still there and give you an idea of where your computer keeps the music.
The default location for the music in iTunes is in your "My Music" folder. Open that, then double click on the folder called "iTunes". Inside that is a folder called "iTunes Music". In that is where iTunes stores all your music unless you changed the location.
    Is it there?
To add it back, drag the folder called "iTunes Music" into the open iTunes program. iTunes will go through and add each song back.
Let me know how this goes, and I can help you with some things that will help keep your music safe the next time something happens.

  • IN DESPERATE NEED FOR HELP flashing question mark appears MacBook

Hello everyone, I got this White MacBook Mac OS X 10.4.11 yesturday I was updating limewire and iTunes, I was downloading some songs from Limewire when all of a sudden my macbook frozed. I was not able to do a thing. Not even minimizing nor quiting the app nor even opening another aplication, so I decided to shut it down by holding the power button until it shut down (about 8 secs). So I restart my macbook and I got this grey=blank screen whit a flashing question mark on it. I've tried EVERYTHING on this link http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1440?viewlocale=en_US even these one http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1533 and all I was able to accomplish, was to hold the mouse (/trackpad) button to eject a Cd, and while pressing Shift during startup (in order to start in Safe Boot mode) all I get is this lock image and this space to type a password. I've tried typing every password I know and I can't fix my macbook. Can anyone please help me out on this one?

It means certain system files needed for startup are corrupted. You will have to reinstall OS X. If your hard drive is unaffected you can try the following:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Where is the best place to get mus

I have the Zen Vision M and absolutely love it. I downloaded LimewirePRO because supposedly it is supposed to be better than just plain Limewire. Recently it has come to the point where NOTHING downloads from LimewirePRO. It only cost $20 to buy, so I looking into another downloading service. Are there are downloading services that you pay monthly or yearly instead of per song that are great services? I want something more like Limewire than iTunes. Thanks!

To people that will reply, please make sure your recommendations are legal sources.
LimeWire is a peer-to-peer service and not a legal download source, with it you're downloading music you do not own or did not buy, even if you pay for their download service.

  • G5 randomly freezes/locks up

Help. I have a first generation powermac G5 (specs follow) that has been a great and reliable machine, until about 2 weeks ago. I don't know if this coincided with a system update or our changing internet providers whatever, but here's the deal:
A couple months ago we changed from cable internet (which was great) to AT&T wireless 3G internet with the USB modem (mediocre at best). the G5 did fine with it for a couple weeks, then out of the blue, started locking up on me. Initially I thought it was spotlight, and "MDWORKER" was in fact taking lots of CPU, but now that has settled down, but the system locks when there is NO apparently load on the CPU.
Sometimes the whole system just freezes, but Sometimes I lose function ONE app at a time! Safari will freeze, then Limewire, then iTunes, then eventually even activity Monitor in the Dock will freeze and the whole system will just sit there totally locked up. Generally the HD will continue hitting intermittently. Sometimes the system will go to "Sleep" - screen will blank and HD stop hitting. Sometime it will wake from sleep and still be frozen (i.e. screen will come back on and I again see the spinning disk) , sometimes it won't wake from sleep.
I've run Disk Utility several times - as per usual it will report issues with permissions and advise "Permissions repair complete" ( I always run Permissions repair twice, have always gotten the same results since the machine was new), Verify Disk always reports the HD is fine. SMART status remains "Verified."
I suspect the internet connection - Sierra Wireless Watcher, as I'm able to boot up and run Disk utility without the system freezing. But no hogging of resources is reported by activity Monitor while I'm logged on - even when it freezes there's no report of CPU hogging.
    Any ideas?
System is PowerPC G5 - one 1.8 Ghz CPU
1.5 G ram, internal 160 GB Serial ATA HD
    OS X 10.5.6
    Sierra Wireless Watcher internet software
typical apps I've used "forever" - Safari, iTunes, Word, Limewire

    Hi TomFromBama-
Have you checked to see if there is an update available for the Sierra Wireles Watcher program? I checked the website but could find no Mac-compatible updates.
I suspect it is the Sierra program. You may want to try actually removing (un-install) the program and see if it is the culprit.

  • Problems with transfer

i really don't know much about an ipod. i use limewire, so how do i transfer to itunes so i can transfer to ipod?

Limewire is P2P software normally used for sharing software... sharing of licensed apps, licensed music, copyrighted material like movies and songs and games etc is illegal.
There are some people who use Limewire to share non-licensed stuff. For example if you coded your own program, and want to distribute it to other people, you could use Limewire to distribute it. That is just an example.
iTunes is a player/viewer for music and other mediafiles primarily designed as a front end for the Apple iTunes Music store, used to purchase, legally downloaded music and or videos.
When you pay some fee to Limewire you are not paying for license to download copyrighted material.
There is a massive difference between Limewire and iTunes.
