Limewire Issue

Recently my Limewire app spontaneously stopped launching. I tried repairing system permissions and changing around the ownership (in the get info box), as well as updating to the latest version of the software - none of them solve the problem. Any thoughts on getting the software to run?

If you've updated to Quick Time 7.04 recently then delete it and try to go back to a previous verison. Apparently there's a bug in QT which prevents Limewire from launching. If you haven't updated QT then below are some other troubleshooting suggestions that may help you.

  • IPod and Limewire issues

I just bought my $300 iPod, and right now for me, is worth crap. I have Limewire Pro and it is under the shared files in the iTunes page. I can never drag it, or do anything with it. I am thinking of returning it to the store for my money back, but if someone can please help me, that would be great!

You have Limewire pro and you can not drag it or do anything with it? (that is exactly what you said). Perhaps you could start again and example what you are trying to do.
If you are trying to add a shared library to your iPod you can't. So instead, go to File -> Add to library then navigate to your Limewire folder where you music is and pick that. All those songs, assuming they are in compatible music formats, will be added to your iTunes library. That should then transfer to your iPod ok.

  • LimeWire crash on launch

The LimeWire Forums (http://www.gnutellaforums.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=7) contain a lot of discussions on crash-on-launch issues with LimeWire, suggesting Java-related problems. I have tried just about every suggestion I could find in the Forums. Yet, under OS 10.4.8, LimeWire crashes on launch.
From curiosity, I switched to a new user and LimeWire still crashed. So, I rebooted from an OS 10.4.2 volume. Then, LimeWire launched fine. Therefore, I think that a combination of system and security updates from 10.4.2 to 10.4.8 is somehow related to my LimeWire issue.
Azureus, another Java-based application, continues to launch fine under OS 10.4.8. So, I am not too certain if my LimeWire launch issue is Java-related.
I would appreciate any insight into the issue.
    MacBook Pro 17-inch (June 2006)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   G5 Dual 2GHz Tower (Sept. 2005)

The only way I can get my limewire to launch and run is to copy the following into a terminal and then hit return:
    cd /Applications/Limewire/Limewire.app/Contents/Resources/Java ; java -cp help.jar:tools.jar -jar Limewire.jar
Use copy and paste to make sure all the spaces are correct, and save it into a textfile for use each time.
From there it runs fine. Otherwise it just bounces in the dock and never starts up.
BUT I am on 10.3.9 and don't know if this will work in Tiger. If it does, let us know please. Hope it helps.
    Thanks!

No, I post to let you know that you are breaking the law and that you probably won't get much help here. Also, to let others who may have posted a response that they would be helping you steal.

  • Limewire playlists showing up in home sharing

I have a weird problem. I have limewire playlists showing up in my Itunes 9 shared area. No one in the household has ever installed limewire on the pcs, and nothing shady is done on any of them. If I open the playlists they are full of music none of us would ever listen to, and I'm able to play music from it.
I'm in a rural area and the nearest house is 1/2 a mile away. I disabled wireless on the router anyway, and the playlists still remain afterwards (and remain playable). Unchecking the "Look for shared playlists" in itunes makes the playlists go away but the problem still remains... is someone somehow leeching off my internet connection or is itunes just doing something funny? I've googled "itunes limewire playlists" and it does seem to be happening to other people.

  • Limewire

Hi everyone...I am a new iPod user. I dowloaded the "Hotel California" video from Limewire and convert it for the iPod. When I play the video on my iPod, there is no sound. Can someone help me with this issue?
    Thanks in advance...

Things you download via Limewire are often low-quality and/or encoded in some strange, PC-only encoding. You might be able to see it using mplayer, but it will never work on an iPod.

  • Linksys WRT54G v5 - Connection issues

    Good evening,
I picked up a new WRT54G (v5) the other day to replace an old BEFW11 router, and so far have been far less than impressed.  I have one computer on the wired connection, and one on wireless.  It seems, though, that if the wireless system is running any P2P software (Limewire, in this case), or anything else which creates a large number of simultaneous connections (BitTorrent for d/ling CD images, for instance), the router simply dies.  Although any existing TCP connections are fine (e.g. MSN Messenger switchboard connections, though not _new_ conversations), it is virtually impossible to generate any new TCP connections.  They appear to connect immediately, and then disconnect less than a second later.  This occurs for HTTP, SSH, Telnet, IMAP, and SMTP connections, so far as I've tried.
A hard reset of the router seems to be the only thing that helps.
I ran into similar issues with the BEFW11, and ended up using it only as an access point, and relying on an old D-Link DI-704P to take care of NAT -- and this worked fine.  But in this case, I want to take the DI-704 with me when I move, not leave it here ... and so I would really prefer if the Linksys could, uh, do what it's supposed to in the first place.
I tried upgrading the firmware to v1.00.9, but after sitting there for a few minutes I ended up with a "this page cannot be displayed" error from I E.  I'm going to give it another shot, but am a little hesitant to reboot the router at this point because I have no idea if it will be toast at that point or not.
EDIT: Now upgraded to v1.00.9.  Apparently this doesn't work over HTTPS, but it worked fine via HTTP itself.  We'll see if this has made a difference ...
I see some similar reports from other people.  Any suggestions?

yeah use a WRT54GL instead. my website is unindated with wrt54g/GS v5 and v6 router problems. how linksys has been able to ignore this problem is beyond me. the WRT54GL is by far the better router. (linux based)

  • Limewire + Itunes??

I recently had to nuke my computer and re-install everything. Though I have checked off the box in Limewire that says it will automatically download the songs into Itunes, none are showing up unless I find them and double click on them. It used to happen automatically. As soon as it was done downloading in Limewire it opened up in Itunes. Is the lastest Itunes messed up or am I missing something? HELP, this made life so much easier!!

So, let me see if I understand correctly... you wiped your hard drive clean, restored windows, reinstalled limewire, and never got itunes integration? are you currently using the latest version of limewire and itunes 9.0.2? if not, then there will be significant issues.

    G4 Powerbook 12   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi Iain:
There have been many people affected by the "Disk Utility has lost its connection" issue in the last week or so, including myself.
Kappy posted a solution to this last week; navigate to /Library/Receipts then move itunes.pkg and itunes4.pkg to the desktop. Disk Utility should run error free. Once you're done, move the files back into /Library/Receipts.
    Good luck!

  • Will Mac OS 10.5 resolve my issues?

I'm new to Mac and I've just purchased an iBook G4 w/ Mac OS 10.4.11. I purchased it in order to catalog music for deejaying purposes. I want to download and use LimeWire. But during installation I keep getting a message that I need Java 10.6 (or newer version of Mac OS X).
Will the upgrade to Mac OS 10.5 resolve this issue = truly be worth the additional cost? Or should I go with 10.6?

I want to download and use LimeWire. But during installation I keep getting a message that I need Java 10.6 (or newer version of Mac OS X).

  • LimeWire "Internal Errors"

I'm getting "internal errors" constantly and its forever freezing. I have to force quit every time I use it. Its not a Universal program, but I expected it to run better than this. Any fixes?

It is a universal program. Limewire is a universal P2P client as 4.11 in beta form. Otherwise, use frostwire.
Hope one of those suggestions resolves your issues. If not, you might have compiled a newer version of PPC Limewire atop another. Spotlight "limew" and delete everything.
Download a new version - either 4.11 or 4.10.9 again. You'll be fine.

  • How do I find out if I have back door port issues.

I recently got to looking at my MacBook Pro and noticed that I had a couple of programs most likely put there by my kids that download movies and stuff. One was Limewire and there was another one called torrent something. I dont know a lot about them but have friends that are telling me that these programs will install some sort of back door access to my computer that will slow it down. I have recently deployed to the Middle East so our internet isn't fast to begin with so I cant be sure why it is running slower. I have since deleted the programs as I have no need for them. How do I tell if there are any of these back door programs and stop them. I am fairly new to the Mac world so I am just learning a lot of how they operate.
Thanks for any guidance on this issue.

Bit-torrent rubbish and limewire are usually used for downloading illegal material and much of the software downloaded is filled with malware
    That is a false statement.
BitTorrent and Limewire can be exploited by malware authors, and there may be illegal content passing over the network, but to say that this is the usual case is a little too much. Your statement implies that by installing the software you immediately become a criminal and your machine gets infested with malware. That is not the case. There is a lot of legitimate traffic on such peer-to-peer networks.
Downloading content via a torrent carries the same risks and responsibilities as downloading content from anywhere else. Consider how much you trust the source before installing/opening anything you download. The main issue, of course, is that you don't know who the source is, and that's the real concern.
    Not true
Bit-torrent is not the same as simply downloading material. It is connecting to a large user-shared internet network, and usually allows other people to access your computer when you are a seed.
And I maintain that most bit-torrent activities are for downloading "shared" files which are usually copyright protected. I have personally checked and verified this. If you believe that being able to download Leopard or Apple products via bit-torrent sites is legal, then we have our differences.
    I reference
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legalissues_withBitTorrent
    and others.
The claim is that the "sharing" is legal because it's user-to-user. So it's OK for someone to "share" the Leopard OS?
I stand by my original statements 100%. I would take the opposite stand, Limewire and bit-torrent "can" be used legally, but for the most part when reality strikes home, they are not. Those who say it's OK to "share" files are either naive or are involved in the "sharing" but in any case, just look at what is being shared and that proves my point.
Naturally, the fact that "sharing" is popular is why much malware is associated with the processes.
This old link is a mere bagatelle of what goes on with file "sharing"
    http://www.neowin.net/news/main/08/05/07/malware-outbreak-blamed-on-file-swapped -mp3s-mpegs
BTW, it's illegal to share copyrighted files no matter what, and it's illegal to own them unless they were legally purchased.
