Limit by genre on iTunes

I used to be able to search new releases in the iTunes store by genre. Great way to find new stuff. That function seems to have been deleted, and it's a pain to click on a bunch of samples only to find that it's rap or something that I have no interest in. My purchases have gone way down. Ideas?

sorry i just checked your location i gave you the steps youd have to take if you were in the canadian store but you would be using the us store. my mistake. what i told you to look for doesnt exist in the us store you would have to click on itunes store home>youll see an iTunes Store list to the left of new releases and above more in music. in the iTunes store menu click on music>then genre (on the lower left side menu)>then new releases see all (in the top right of the center portion of the screen) then you can sort by name featured and release date of that specific genre. thats the only way i can find to do it. personally i think the layout of teh canadian store is a little more straight forward for what your trying to do but hey it works in the end just a bit more clicking
let me know if THIS helps you out

  • How can I combine multiple listings for same genre on iTunes 11?

When I downloaded the newest iTunes version 11, I suddenly had multiple listings for the same genre. I literally have 63 genre listings for "Trance"; 4 listings for "Hip-Hop/Rap" and a few others. There was obviously not a problem with the old iTunes version as they were all grouped together. I do get music from several sources but I have no idea how to combine all my "Trance" listings into one. It takes longer to scroll through the "Trance" genres than the rest of my genres combined. I tried to individually change one the "Hip-Hop/Rap" listings by using the "Get Info" tab and typing in the genre until iTunes can autofill the rest but the problem remains. Any ideas how to combine all these into one genre without compromising the genre name? Thanks

I believe the closest you can come is look at your songs in Songs.  There you can sort by albums.
The album view does not contain a list view any longer.

  • Can't sort books by genre in itunes 11?

Hey guys, I just found out that I can't sort my ebooks by genre in iTunes 11 anymore. There is audiobooks, books, pdf, author and list in the bar above all the books. Is there something I missed, or is there a way to get genre back to itunes? I would hate to know that this is one of changes that makes new itunes simple and easy to use... Thanks.

If you click on LIST and then Menu View > View options, you will be able to choose which columns to see in the list view. The Heading for "Genre" now seems to be "Category".

  • Unable to access Electronic genre in itunes, help?

    Hi,
I've never had this problem before accessing the electronic section genre in itunes store, it literally says "your request could not be completed: The item you've request is not currently available in the Canadian Store." Now is itunes under construction in the electronic section or am I banned, i never had this problem before, and i am in canada so what the problem?

Suggest that you temporarily move the Express close to your wireless router to insure a good wireless signal and plug in a pair of headphones to simulate speakers. In iTunes, be sure to select your speakers at the lower right of the iTunes window. Look for a square box with an arrow inside the box. Click on that to select your speakers.
Restart the complete network and see if the "test" setup will work.
If yes, move the Express to the desired location but keep the headphones plugged in to test. If things are working, switch to your powered speakers. If you suddenly lose the sound, you have problem in the connecting audio cable or speakers themselves to troubleshoot.

  • Sorting movies by Genre in iTunes for Mac

Question: How do I group movies together into genres of iTunes? There is nothing I can find in iTunes that tells me how to do this. Thanks.
    Paul

Select your "Movies" library. Go to the iTunes "View" menu and select "View Options". Check "Genre" to add that column and then click on the "Genre" column to sort.

  • Renaming and/or adding genres in iTunes

I am organizing my albums in the recently updated iTunes and wish to (1) add some new genres and (2) rename some of the genres currently listed.
    Is either possible?
    Thanks!

There are a number of predefined genres, the rest are those entered in the tags of your files. Open the songs view with column browser and turn on the Genres column. Find a genre you want to remove or merge with another. Click on it to show all the files with that genre. Select all & Get info. Type in the updated value for the Genre. Click OK. Repeat until finished....
If you want to edit the list of available genres still left after clearing any that are stored in your tags, see this article.

  • How do I remove default genres in iTunes 11?

I don't mean any genres I've added myself, but default genres already in the program, like "Pop."   In the past you could edit the localizable.strings file, but the genres no long seem to be there.  There is a genresLoc.plist file but that also does not seem to have a list of genres in it.  Again, I've done this in past versions of iTunes but can't seem to find information on how to do this in the latest version.  Everything posted on the subjhect seems to be out-of-date and related to previous versions.
Please do not post a link to the same MacWorld article from 2007 that I've seen a few times.  This is iTunes 11 on a Mac that I need to change.

Two Windows scripts to make playlists of Duplicates and Exact Duplicates. Use shift-delete to remove selected tracks from the library as well as the playlist.
There is also my DeDuper script if you don't want to do it by hand. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. See this thread for background.

  • How do I delete default genres in iTunes 11.3?

It used to be a case of editing the localized.strings file, but this no longer works. Anyone know where the list of default genres can be found now?

This is a source of frusteration for many people! There are some programs you can purchase which I have never used that will dedupe your library for you.
Alternatively there are some awesome tricks found here http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/scripts.asp  and free too! I am new at this but here's how I understand it : They are vbs scripts so what you do is copy the text for whatever you are trying to do into a notepad file, then save the notepad file (file-save as) as anyname.vbs, and on the drop down menu below select save as all file types. Then your notepad file will be magically transformed into a vbs file which, after opening itunes, you click on it and it does its thing. There are different scripts for different functions eg deduping, clearing dead tracks, etc.
Let me know if you have any  questions. Samsoft saved me so much time.

  • How to add a genre to itunes

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how I can add a genre to my iTunes store?
My iTunes store country is The Netherlands and I would like to filter on the genre Country,
which I can not select in my iTunes account on the iPad, iPod and iPhone. I am afraid that
the country is the limitation but hopefully I am wrong.
    Thanks!

In the case of a movie, for instance, select the movie title then right-click and select get info.
At the bottom, in the Genre box there may or may not be something listed there.  Select the drop down and search for a suitable genre.  If none found and you want to add then select none or custom so that the box becomes empty.  Now simply type in your own genre.  It will be added to the list.

  • Finding missing Genre in iTunes

Is there a way to sort all your music in iTunes by filling in the missing genre fields. It would be great to find a way of doing it that also matches iTunes classifications. If anyone knows of a way, it would be great to hear.
    Thanks

Peter, There is nothing in iTunes that can automatically fill in an empty genre. However, if you make sure that Genre is displayed (if it isn't, go to View > View Options and tick it) you can easily see which ones are empty. Then manually you can add a predefined genre from the dropdown list, or type your own custom genre into the field.
