Limit email downloads while roaming?

Hello
When I am roaming I would like to limit my email downloads, to just download headers, or just the first 5k, like I used to be able on my Treo. Even being able to set "no attachments" or "no images" would be great.
Right now I'm finding my email charges while roaming are huge, because I get a lot of email that really isn't crucial, but I have to download it all in order to see the messages that are.
How would I enable this?
Thanks

Here is what I have noticed with attachements.
I can test and send an attachment to myself from PC to iPhone accuont that it is checking.
Open Mail App. It checks and says connecting...etc. I see messages show up.
Get the Ding.
Shortly after that the paperclip will show I got one with an attachment.
But then the progress at the bottom goes away. However, if I don't go into that mail message and just wait. The progress indicator at the top will start and will process and process and process. Once that if finally done. If I open the message. The attachment will be there already downloaded. Only if one goes into a mail message around the time it arrives (before it had time to download) have I seen it say attachment is there but not downloaded (or at times it will take time and process and download on open).
I have just found (from my experience) that if you don't go right into email when an email with an attachement arrives and let it sit it will eventually be there when you do go check.
Now this also happens when I don't open the mail app at all. As I described in one of my earlier posts. I listen to music/podcasts on FM transmitter in my car. I get the now and then interference for txt, grabbing new cell etc. When new email arrives (I don't seem to get interference with just checking...odd) but when new email arrives I hear the itnerference (longer than txt interference) then it stops, I get a ding. But I will leave it there as I don't need to be reading email while driving. But if an attachement was included, then it will start to process again (long time with interference...could be minutes if big attachment especially while moving and jumping towers). I have had to pause playback as it is just unbearable. I have at times gotten fed up knowing it was a huge file that I can get later and gone and turned of my email after having gone into mail to press and hold home button to force quit it.
All my accounts I check are POP.

  • Mail 7.0 - limit email download

I want to add an IMAP-account to Mail. Since I've used this account for many years, it contains thousands of emails and several archive folders, and I really don't want to fill up my SSD with that.
There used to be a "Don't keep copies of any messages" checkbox in Mail's account preferences, but this option was removed in OS X 10.9. There's also no way to limit synchronization to a certain time frame or specific folders.
I am aware I can exclude attachements from being downloaded, but still it's a lot of data.
The same problem exists in iOS 7: You cannot limit the email download to a certain time frame as in iOS 6.
(This actually means I cannot use Mail on my iPhone or sync Mail with iCloud if I don't want to fill up a big part of my phone/cloud space with email data)
Does anybody have solution for this, or an explanation for the removal of these features?

    Found this:
I did discover that, if I drag the message into a local folder in the "On My Mac" section of Mail, then I can remove the attachment.

  • Activesync - long delays in email delivery while roaming / local activesync log on BB10-device?

    Hi,
A couple of our users are experiencing serious delays in email delivery on their BDS-controlled Z10s while roaming. With "serious" I mean delays in the magnitude of hours. This is something however that purely relates to Z10 and the way message sync is done (activesync)
Since we've got both legacy (OS7) devices and BB10-devices on our network I can confirm that email delivery on the legacy devices happens instantly while BB10-devices experience the above mentioned delays when roaming.
    So here are my questions:
Anybody else experiencing this problem (I saw a post under BB10 automatic sync not working while roaming in US mentioning US roaming problems, but in our case it's Europe and travelling between European countries)
Is there a way to get an activesync-log from the Z10s itself showing dates/times of activesync and error-messages respectively? (Afaik the phone has an end-to-end-connection to the activesync/exchange server) - on other platforms (IOS, Androids) you can find a local activesync log on the smartphone so I'm positive that something like this must be present on BB10 too.
Any known cure - or at least an idea how to track this down?
Thanks much in advance for any clue

I don't know if my situation is related or not, but I have (since Friday) been experiencing delays with Gmail on my Z10. However, it's not universal. I have 9 Gmail accounts, and only a subset are affected by delays, while others receive everything immediately. They are all integrated via ActiveSync, and delivery elsewhere (e.g., Outlook client, Gmail webmail inteface) is not affected.
If the problem affected all of my Gmail accounts the same, I might believe that the problem is with BB or my carrier services. But, since it's only affecting a subset, I instead believe my issues to be rooted at Google. Given all they have recently done to alienate the BB platform, I'm actually not terribly surprised either.
Note that no roaming is involved...this is on home network carrier and also almost completely on WiFi. No changes have been made to the configuration...but this behavior started suddenly on Friday. Eventually, everything gets delivered and reconciled...but on some accounts, the delay is quite large.
If your issues can be narrowed down so as to truly know a root cause, and that root cause results in being something in the BB device, OS, or infrastructure, then you need to contact your mobile service provider for formal support and potential escalation up to BlackBerry for enhanced support.
    Good luck!

  • Limit email download

    I'm using Mail on OS X 10.9 and I want to add a Yahoo-account.
The problem is I've been using this account for about 10 years, so it contains thousands of emails and many folders that I use to archive messages.
What I need on my computer is basically my inbox content of the last week.
I am aware that the concept of IMAP is to synchronize my entire account between my computer and the server, but is there still a way to limit the synchronization to a certain time frame or at least to exclude certain folders?
Also, can I stop Mail from making emails available offline and only access them on the server (so it doesn't use more and more disk space)?
    Thank you for your help!
    Mario

From the Mail menu bar, select
    Mail ▹ Preferences ▹ Accounts
Select the IMAP account, then the Advanced tab in its settings. From the menu labeled
Keep copies of messages for offline viewing
    select
Don't keep copies of any messages

  • Limit of email download

I am trying to transfer my email from using gmail on the web to gmail on Mac mail. It downloadeds everything up to 2011 but nothing beyond that.
Can anyone guess, or maybe suggest how I can update the mail client to be fully up to date? Is this a setting?  Maybe a setting in gmail or is it a setting in Mac Mail?

I have just taken delivery of my Pre and PeterMW's 2009 unanswered question is the key issue I was searching to get a definitive answer for.
I often travel outside of my home country and wish to minimise data roaming fees. But if, for example, a relative decides to send 10MB of pictures of the family and I hit download, it seems I get the whole data dump without being given the option of just scanning the header and body text. This both chews up much time on slow, overseas networks, and also costs big coin.
As per PeterMW's question, is there a way to limit the download size of each individual message as is the norm with all the other mobile devices I have used? If not, then sadly I have to conclude that this is a pretty unappealing device for those who have passports....
    Thanks all!

  • Pre email downloaded and notifications received even though disabled

I have access to a computer most days and don't need the auto download to my phone, I simply want to check my email when I am away from a computer.  I have turned off the notifications under the email preferences and set the Get Mail option to Manual.  Despite this, my Pre is still automatically checking my email and notifying me of new emails.  While at a sprint store the tech looked at me phone and said everything was set right.  Is anyone else experiencing this problem or know how to fix it?
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

I have the same problem, running Web OS 1.1.0.  Since I picked up my phone a couple weeks ago I'd awake to find my battery almost compeltely discharged.  I was about to return my phone for a Blackberry.
I've verified this is my problem:
      1) Set to manual, send an email to my gmail, I get notified of the new mail even though the mail app isn't open and I haven't synchronized it.
      2) With the account removed I lose less than 10% batter, previously I'd lose 70% of my battery.
I just really want Palm to acknowedge that they are working on the issue since it is a deal breaker for me.  I don't want to give up my Pre, but I NEED more than a day's battery life.  Especially since I'm an extremely light voice, text, and data user.

  • Manual Email Download w/ Latest OS

    Hi all - I'm new here :-)
Day 2 with a new BB Q10 and so far it's great!
I'm pretty tech savvy and have set up my POP3 email account as well as the SMTP etc.. and eveything works.
I set the POP3 account email 'Sync Interval' to "Manual", assuming this would allow me to check my email ONLY when I wish to do so as I don't want email downloaded to the Q10 unless I have a good reason to check it. I bought the  Q10 primarily as a phone and not as an email tool.
With my desktop email program I delete email on the server after downloading, so there's never a lot waiting for downloading. But I do get the usual spam + "friends" who enjoy sending 5-10MB image attachments of their cat (sigh) and I don't want these eating into my Data plan while on the road.
    The problem:
Despite the 'Sync -> Manual' setting the Q10 still downlloads whatever's on the mail server.
    So -- the questions are:
    1) How can only get/sync the email ONLY when I want to?
    2) Can I temporarily disable that email account altogether and reenable it without having to re-enter all the settings?
    3) Once downloaded, can I delete emails without opening them and being exposed to what they might contain?
    4) Are there alternative email programs available for the Q10
Thank you any help with this.

    vmisirlis wrote:
What you can do with the email is to set when to sync your can also go to settings and toggle the switch to data plan in order to save data!
The data plan is already off as I'm on my local wi-fi. But I still end up downloading emails that I then appear to have to OPEN if I want to delete them.
Is there no way to delete emails without opening?
What about deleting emails that may contain a dangerous payload?
The set to sync every "24 hours" will work only for 24 hours. I'd prefer to set it to something longer (->7days). But when it does kick in it will still download whatever's waiting online.
Why not a Sync ON/OFF option?
Or why doesn't the "Manual" sync setting bahave as it suggests?
If this is a bug then I'm happy to just wait for a fix. But I was hoping there was already a setting that I had overlooked.
Thanks for your suggestions nonetheless :-)

  • Ipads Disconnecting While Roaming (WPA2, 802.1x, Radius)

We are having an issue that is apparently only affecting Apple Ipads. These are user devices that we are allowing connections to "Guest" SSID through an anchor to our DMZ. They are authenticating over 802.1x to our internal Radius server. Below is the debug of one of the Ipads disconnecting while roaming. After about 10 seconds the connection will resume. This is occuring on a 5508 WLC running 7.0.98.218 code and 1142 APs. Ipad is running 6.0.2 firmware. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Handling email downloading

I found peculiar the way iphone handles emails.
There is NOT OPTION to limit the download size of the emails. No option, no choice, no precise rule, nothing.

THIS IS A VERY VERY VERY BASIC option (limit size download to ...)

  • Limit concurrrent downloads?

Is there any way to limit itunes to one concurrent download at a time? In particular for movies/shows. When I purchase them one by one, I don't seem to have a problem.
I recently dropped two season passes and all **** broke lose. I'd get connection errors all the time. I'll restart itunes and it will continue eventually.
It'd be nice if I could just limit one download at a time... and while we're add it, being able to change priority too.

In iTunes 7.0.1 you can do it manually by canceling the downloads you want to save for later.
In the left side main menu, there is the sub-category of "store" and when iTunes is downloading there is a listing there which says "Download" and the number of downloads you have in que.
Inside that category, is the list of all the downloads. At the very far right end there is an 'x' icon which, if you click it, will stop that particular download.
What would be really nice would be to have a feature to "pause" as well as to "prioritize" the downloads by setting the order and total number of downloads.

  • TS2755 Texts from other iphone users not coming through while roaming.

I am roaming daily in the US.  Ever since I upgraded to ios 7 my phone won't receive any texts from other iphone users unless I am on wifi.  Texts do come through from non-iphone users.  I do have cellular data shut off while roaming (I don't want to be charged roaming fees for facebook notifications, emails, etc.) but this never stopped texts from arriving before updating.  I pay $20 a month to text from the US and want to be able to utilize this feature!  Any suggestions?

Settings -> Messages --> see what is checked for receiving messages
    Does your iPad have 3G/4G?
If not then most likely the messages are going to your Apple ID email
You can uncheck that and just leave your number checked
It should then come to your phone

  • Where has the feature to limit email to most recent 50,100 etc gone on IOS7?

Hi. Upgraded to IoS7 and seem to have lost feature in settings/mail to limit email to most recent 50 messages etc. where is it now hidden?

Others have complained about this.  Funny, though, my iphone and ipad on iOS 7 do not download all email, just some.  But I have found no settings that will designate how many at most to download.
Maybe it has to do with the email service.  For me, icloud works as it should, along with my company's exchange and personal domain.
Perhaps there's a hidden bug Apple will have to address.

  • Email download speeds

My E72 seems to collect email much quicker than my E71.
I don't know know whether that's because I have a new sim card, or because it collects via the various WLAN access points I have set up.
I don't know whether the E72 automatically downloads emails using the fastest connection available, even though it's set up to use O2 Active as default, any offers?
On that note shoud I select O2 Active or O2 WAP for the best email download connection.
For sending I select 'Always Ask'.
Not sure if I've set it up to it's best potential.
Any advice on collecting email automatically gratefully received.
