Limit on Joined Tables or DB Links Used in a single Select Statement???

I am writing a query that joins upwards of five tables utilizing two or three DB links in the process. When I run the query I get an error telling me that the table or view does not exist. I know that it does in fact exist and I am able to run a separate query on said table even across a DB Link. I've never know there to be a limit to the amount of DB Links used within a single query, but then again, I previously have only written in T-SQL.
I am using ANSI standard SQL in my joins syntax and am familial with the syntax for use of remote DB tables in PL/SQL.
Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be?
David

I am Using Oracle 10g and I'm positive that I am not exceeding my OPEN_LINKS limit.
As far as my SQL, here is a simplified version:
SELECT count(*)
FROM SYSADM.PS_PERSONAL_DATA
INNER JOIN ARTEMIS.HRMS_EMPLOYMENT_TBL@prod ON ARTEMIS.HRMS_EMPLOYMENT_TBL.EMPLOYEE_ID = SYSADM.PS_PERSONAL_DATA.EMPLID
INNER JOIN ARTEMIS.HRMS_JOB_TBL@prod on ARTEMIS.HRMS_JOB_TBL.EMPLOYEE_ID = ARTEMIS.HRMS_EMPLOYMENT_TBL.EMPLOYEE_ID
INNER JOIN SYSADM.PS_DEPT_TBL on ARTEMIS.HRMS_JOB_TBL.JOB_DEPT_ID = SYSADM.PS_DEPT_TBL.DEPTID
INNER JOIN UMSSECU.PERSON@sirs ON ARTEMIS.HRMS_JOB_TBL.EMPLOYEE_ID = UMSSECU.PERSON.PERSON_ID
INNER JOIN UMSSECU.ASSIGNMENT@sirs ON UMSSECU.PERSON.PERSON_ID = UMSSECU.ASSIGNMENT.PERSON_ID
INNER JOIN UMSSECU.ORGANIZATION@sirs ON UMSSECU.ASSIGNMENT.ORGANIZATION_ID = UMSSECU.ORGANIZATION.ORGANIZATION_ID;
The error comes into play with the join to UMSSECU.ASSIGNMENT@sirs it says that the table does not exist. But when I run (select count(*) from UMSSECU.ASSIGNMENT@sirs) on the sirs DB it executes without error. I am confused. I also just identified that I cannot remotely query that table in particular. All the other tables from the sirs DB can be queried from the other DB.

    Hi,
    1.Just see this:
    SELECT * INTO CORRESPONDING FIELD OF TABLE itab
    FROM t1 INNER JOIN t2 ON t1f4 EQ t2f4
    INNER JOIN t3 ON t2f5 EQ t3f5 AND
    t2f6 EQ t3f6 AND
    t2f7 EQ t3f7.
    2.But better to use for all entries.It increases the performance.
    FOR ALL ENTRIES
    Tabular Conditions
    The WHERE clause of the SELECT statement has a special variant that allows you to derive conditions from the lines and columns of an internal table:
    SELECT ... FOR ALL ENTRIES IN <itab> WHERE <cond> ...
    <cond> may be formulated as described above. If you specify a field of the internal table <itab> as an operand in a condition, you address all lines of the internal table. The comparison is then performed for each line of the internal table. For each line, the system selects the lines from the database table that satisfy the condition. The result set of the SELECT statement is the union of the individual selections for each line of the internal table. Duplicate lines are automatically eliminated from the result set. If <itab> is empty, the addition FOR ALL ENTRIES is disregarded, and all entries are read.
    The internal table <itab> must have a structured line type, and each field that occurs in the condition <cond> must be compatible with the column of the database with which it is compared. Do not use the operators LIKE, BETWEEN, and IN in comparisons using internal table fields. You may not use the ORDER BY clause in the same SELECT statement.
    You can use the option FOR ALL ENTRIES to replace nested select loops by operations on internal tables. This can significantly improve the performance for large sets of selected data.
    Example for ALL ENTRIES
    DATA: TAB_SPFLI TYPE TABLE OF SPFLI,
    TAB_SFLIGHT TYPE SORTED TABLE OF SFLIGHT
    WITH UNIQUE KEY TABLE LINE,
    WA LIKE LINE OF TAB_SFLIGHT.
    SELECT CARRID CONNID
    INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE TAB_SPFLI
    FROM SPFLI
    WHERE CITYFROM = 'NEW YORK'.
    SELECT CARRID CONNID FLDATE
    INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE TAB_SFLIGHT
    FROM SFLIGHT
    FOR ALL ENTRIES IN TAB_SPFLI
    WHERE CARRID = TAB_SPFLI-CARRID AND
    CONNID = TAB_SPFLI-CONNID.
    LOOP AT TAB_SFLIGHT INTO WA.
    AT NEW CONNID.
    WRITE: / WA-CARRID, WA-CONNID.
    ENDAT.
    WRITE: / WA-FLDATE.
    ENDLOOP.
    INNER JOINS
    In a relational database, you normally need to read data simultaneously from more than one database table into an application program. You can read from more than one table in a single SELECT statement, such that the data in the tables all has to meet the same conditions, using the following join expression:
    SELECT...
    FROM <tab> INNER JOIN <dbtab> AS <alias> ON <cond> <options>
    where <dbtab> is a single database table and <tab> is either a table or another join expression. The database tables can be specified statically or dynamically as described above. You may also use aliases. You can enclose each join expression in parentheses. The INNER addition is optional.
    A join expression links each line of <tab> with the lines in <dbtab> that meet the condition <cond>. This means that there is always one or more lines from the right-hand table that is linked to each line from the left-hand table by the join. If <dbtab> does not contain any lines that meet the condition <cond>, the line from <tab> is not included in the selection.
    The syntax of the <cond> condition is like that of the WHERE clause, although individual comparisons can only be linked using AND. Furthermore, each comparison must contain a column from the right-hand table <dbtab>. It does not matter on which side of the comparison it occurs. For the column names in the comparison, you can use the same names that occur in the SELECT clause, to differentiate columns from different database tables that have the same names.
    The comparisons in the condition <cond> can appear in the WHERE clause instead of the ON clause, since both clauses are applied equally to the temporary table containing all of the lines resulting from the join. However, each join must contain at least one comparison in the condition <cond>.
    Example for INNER JOINS
    REPORT demo_select_inner_join.
    DATA: BEGIN OF wa,
    carrid TYPE spfli-carrid,
    connid TYPE spfli-connid,
    fldate TYPE sflight-fldate,
    bookid TYPE sbook-bookid,
    END OF wa,
    itab LIKE SORTED TABLE OF wa
    WITH UNIQUE KEY carrid connid fldate bookid.
    SELECT pcarrid pconnid ffldate bbookid
    INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE itab
    FROM ( ( spfli AS p
    INNER JOIN sflight AS f ON pcarrid = fcarrid AND
    pconnid = fconnid )
    INNER JOIN sbook AS b ON bcarrid = fcarrid AND
    bconnid = fconnid AND
    bfldate = ffldate )
    WHERE p~cityfrom = 'FRANKFURT' AND
    p~cityto = 'NEW YORK' AND
    fseatsmax > fseatsocc.
    LOOP AT itab INTO wa.
    AT NEW fldate.

    ENDAT.
    WRITE / wa-bookid.
    ENDLOOP.

    But when i generating the infoset i am getting error like below
    The IN operator with "CAPEX" is followed neither by an internal table nor by a value list
    I was using IN opeartor for set ids during validation / substitutions, where if i have to validate multiple single values.

  • Field symbols as Table name and in where condition in a select statement

    Hello All,
    I have a scenario where I need to get user input on table name and old field value and new field value. Then based on user input, I need to select the record from the database. The column name for all the tables in question is different in the database, however there data type is the same and have same values.
    I am not able to use a field symbol for comparing the old field value to fetch the relevant record in my where clause.
    I cannnot loop through the entire table as it has 10 millilon records, please advice on how to add the where clause as field symbol as the table name is also dynamically assigned.
    Here is my code:

    1. Create single column table for holding field name depending on the table entered.
    2. Take input from user: for e.g. table_name
    3. Using case load single column table with required fields
       for e.g.
      CASE TAB_NAME.
       WHEN 'OIUH_RV_GL'.
             Append 'GL_GL_SYS_NO' to KEY_FIELD --> KEY_FIELD is the single line internal table as mentioned in step 1.
       WHEN 'OIUH_RV_OPSL'.
             Append 'OPSL_GL_SYS_NO'.
       WHEN 'OIUH_RV_OTAX'.
             Append 'OTAX_GL_SYS_NO' to KEY_FIELD.
               APPEND 'OTAX_TAX_POS_NO' to KEY_FIELD.
       WHEN 'OIUH_RV_GTAX'.
             Append 'GTAX_GL_SYS_NO' to KEY_FIELD.
               APPEND 'OTAX_TAX_POS_NO' to KEY_FIELD.
       WHEN OTHERS.
          EXIT.
       ENDCASE.
       Now depending on the table name you have required column ready
    4. Create dynamic internal table using following sudo code
       Fill the fieldcatlog using the single column field table and DD03L table, See what all columns from DD03L you want to fill in field catlog table
       loop at internal table with all the fields.
        move it to field catalog.
        append field catalog.
       endloop.
    5. Pass this field catalog table to static method create_dynamic_table method
       DATA table TYPE REF TO DATA. --> data object for holding handle to dynamic internal table.
       call method cl_alv_table_create=>create_dynamic_table
       exporting
          it_fieldcatalog = fieldcatalog_tab
       importing
          ep_table = table.
    6. Now assign table reference to field symbol of type table.
       ASSIGN table->* to <field-tab>.
    7. Also create work area <field-wa> using refrence of table.
       create data object wa LIKE LINE OF <field-tab>.
       ASSIGN wa->* to <field-wa>.
    8. Also define field symbol for field name.
       for e.g. <field_name>
    4. Dynamic internal table is ready
    5. Now execute the select statement as follows:
       SELECT (KEY_FIELD)
         INTO <ITAB> --> created dynamically above
          FROM (TABLE_NAME)
         WHERE (WHERE).  --> WHERE is single line internal table having line type of CHAR72. So for every old value there will be one line
         Where condition is same as like we give in static way only difference in this case it will stored in internal table line wise.
        In this case you need to append all your where condition line by line in to WHERE.
    5. To fill this dynamic internal table using ASSIGN COMPONENT <Comp_number> OF STRUCTURE <field-wa> TO <field-name>
       So in this case if first field of structure STRUCT1 is user_id then sudo-code will be
       loop at internal table containing list of fields into field_wa --> single column field table
           ASSIGN COMPONENT field_wa OF STRUCTURE <field-wa> TO <field>. "Here field_wa is wa area for single column internal table holding all the fieldnames.
           Now <field-name> points to user_id field. Move some value into it as nornally we do with variables.
           Move <your_new_value> to <field-name>. --> Assign new value
            or
            <field-name> = <your_new_value>.
       Endloop.
    6. After completing all the fields one row will be ready in <field_wa>.
       APPEND <field_wa> to <field_tab>.
    Hope this helps you.
    Thanks,
    Augustin.

  • 2 set of conditions to use in a Single Select query in procedure

    Good day
    I have one procedure, want to use one 2 set of conditions in Where clause
    like
    where condition1 < value
    AND condition 2 > value
    AND condition 3 = value
    where condition 1 > value
    AND condition 2 < value
    AND condition 4 = value
    How we should combine in a single select statement where cluase.
    Please accept my sincere thanks first and looking your advice asap.
    Regards
    M.K.Thamaraiselvan

    Hi,
    While we use this procdure to run at that time it is not picking up any values also it is not running in it, taking very long time.What is not picking the value? Where clause is not picking the value, or
    where clause is picking the value but you are not getting the output.
    If it is you are not getting the output.
    I suggest to run the sql query individually without pl/sql and check if the records actually exist.
    Since it is taking very long time, I feel the sql query is actually being executed in the database but could be you are not getting the records (check if records actualy exist or if you are correctly passing the where clause)
    Regards
    Anurag
    PS:
    v_sql_string := 'SELECT table/viewname.colomn_name,'||v_order_by||','||v_report_line ||','||
    v_output_line||',table/viewname.check_amount'||v_from_clause||v_where_clause||' ORDER BY '||v_order_by;So you are using dynamic sql, can you add an extra line
    dbms_output.put_line(v_sql_string);
    and check what the actual query is formed by pl/sql, if you are satisified the query is correct run it through sql plus and check why oracle does not give the result. MAy be there is no records satisfiying this condition. And I am sure you meant either table or viewname in (table/viewname.colomn_name) and not something like what you posted.

  • Error by using database procedure in select statement

    hi ,
    I have built a database procedure having one parameter with in out varchar type. that return value with some addition.
    i am using it with some column in select statement only for display purpuses but i am facing error by doing that in select statement. that procedure is working well with bind variable but not with select statement.
    plz help me how i can use a procedure in select statement. or can i do it or not.

    plz help me how i can use a procedure in select statement. or can i do it or not.A workaround could be to create a wrapper function for your procedure. One that only passes the input parameters and returns the output parameter.
    The simply call this function in your select which internally calls the procedure.

  • Using java function in select statement

    Hi,
    I am trying to use java function in select statement.
    public class ClassA{
         private static String MyConst = "foo";
         public static String functionA(){
              return MyConst;
    in my query I have:
    select
         ClassA.functionA() AS id,
         groupId AS newID,
    from
         myChannel[now]
    ClassA is part of the application (no need to import).
    I get and error of Invalid Expression on ClassA.functionA().
    I also tried to declare the function in the processor element:
    <wlevs:processor id="proc">
         <wlevs:function function-name="A" exec-methode="functionA">
              <bean class="mtPackage.ClassA"/>
         </wlevs:function>
    <wlevs:processor>
    but then I get a different error in the processor XML file:  "An InvocationTargetException was encoutered while attemting to register the user defind function A. The message was null"
    What am I missing here?

    Hi,
    From the above description, you have tried two manners to call method functionA() in the user defined  class ClassA. One uses java cartridge manner directly and the other try to use user defined function manner.
    For the java cartridge manner, the following CQL query should work if the ClassA is really included in the OEP app. I have done similar test before, it works.
    select
         ClassA.functionA() AS id,
         groupId AS newID,
    from
         myChannel[now]
    For user defined function manner, I think two things you need to change:
    1. Need to declare the function in the EPN assembly file(under META-INF/spring/), not component configuration file(under META-INF/wlevs/). The following is an example:
    <wlevs:processor id="proc">
         <wlevs:function function-name="A" exec-methode="functionA">
              <bean class="mtPackage.ClassA"/>
         </wlevs:function>
    </wlevs:processor>
    2. Call the user defined function in the CQL query in the component configuration file under processor. For example:
    select A() from myChannel

    Hi All,

    select h.Taskid,h.Flowid,fd.DESCRIPTION Flowname,h.Stepid, sd.DESCRIPTION Stepname,h.Lockby,ud.USERNAME,h.Status,case Date_initiated when (Currval.Testid = Nextval.Testid) Then Date_initiated := NULL Else Date_initiated := Date_initiated End case,case UserTime When ((Currval-1).Testid IS NULL or Currval.Testid <> (Currval-1).Testid) Then UserTime := StartTime When (Currval.Testid = (Currval-1).Testid or Currval.Testid <> Nextval.Testid or Nextval.Testid IS NULL) Then UserTime = (Currval-1).Endtime End case,case StartTime When(Currval.Stepid = Nextval.Stepid or Currval.Stepid=9999) Then StartTime := NULL Else StartTime := StartTime End case,h.EndTime,h.LockTime,h.Drawer,h.FileNo,h.DocType from GlobalTempTest h inner join USERDEFINITION ud on h.Lockby=ud.USERID inner join FLOWDEFINITION fd on h.Flowid=fd.FLOWID inner join STEPDEFINITION sd on (h.Stepid=sd.STEPID and h.Flowid=sd.FLOWID)

    You have to rewrite your code like this:
    CASE WHEN (Currval.Testid = Nextval.Testid) THEN NULL
                                                ELSE Date_initiated
                                                END New_Date_initiatedCurrval/Nextval as shown in your example will not work. Please explain what you mean by previous value comparison.

  • Use of wildcard * in SELECT statement

    I have read that the use of the wildcard * in a SELECT statement cannot be utilized when using the INSERT INTO or other queries where data column/field alignment is critical. I have noted that the INSERT INTO column/fields must be in the same order
    as the SELECT statement (as there is no alignment to column/field names). Can someone please provide me with the information or article that covered this scenario?

    It is consider a good practice to specify columns name, however , SQL Server is smart enough to insert the data without too , but only if the table does not have an IDENTITY property
    CREATE TABLE #t (c1 int, c2 char(1),c3 real, c4 bit)
    CREATE TABLE #t1 (c1 int, c2 char(1),c3 real, c4 bit)
    ---Same thing with INSERT  like SELECT * you asked
    INSERT INTO #t1 VALUES (1,'A',2.5,0)
    INSERT INTO #t1 VALUES (2,'B',3.5,1)
    INSERT INTO #t1 VALUES (3,'C',4.5,0)
    INSERT INTO #t SELECT * FROM #t1
    SELECT * FROM #t

  • Using Variables in a select statement through a Database Adapter

    I was wondering how I reference a variable in a select statement through a Database Adapter.
    Ex.
    1. I have a global variable that stores an employee number
    2. I want to select an SSN # from a table based on an employee #
    variable.
    select ssn from emp where ssn = :input_variable - ????
    - how do i reference the variable - I am getting a 'missing IN or OUT parameter error?
    Any advice is much appreciated.
    ~Thanks

    I'm just wondering if anyone knows a work around so that I might be able to store a Table's FIELD name in a variable or an array[] so that I can do a query based on the decision of a loop without having to code 10 IF/ELSE statements.For instance, although the above code will not work, this code, although quite lengthy, does:
    If DataGrid1.SelStartCol = 0 Then
    Adodc1.RecordSource = "Select * from tblReservation order by RES__PUR_DT"
    Adodc1.Refresh
    ElseIf DataGrid1.SelStartCol = 1 Then
    Adodc1.RecordSource = "Select * from tblReservation order by VENDOR"
    Adodc1.Refresh
    ElseIf DataGrid1.SelStartCol = 2 Then
    Adodc1.RecordSource = "Select * from tblReservation order by VEN_LOC"
    Adodc1.Refresh
    ElseIf DataGrid1.SelStartCol = 3 Then
    Adodc1.RecordSource = "Select * from tblReservation order by RES_TYPE"
    Adodc1.Refresh
    ElseIf DataGrid1.SelStartCol = 4 Then
    Adodc1.RecordSource = "Select * from tblReservation order by RES_FROM_DT"
    Adodc1.Refresh
    ElseIf DataGrid1.SelStartCol = 5 Then
    Adodc1.RecordSource = "Select * from tblReservation order by RES_TO_DT"
    Adodc1.Refresh
    ElseIf DataGrid1.SelStartCol = 6 Then
    Adodc1.RecordSource = "Select * from tblReservation order by MISC_ADJ"
    Adodc1.Refresh
    ElseIf DataGrid1.SelStartCol = 7 Then
    Adodc1.RecordSource = "Select * from tblReservation order by STATE_TAX"
    Adodc1.Refresh
    ElseIf DataGrid1.SelStartCol = 8 Then
    Adodc1.RecordSource = "Select * from tblReservation order by LOC_CHARGE"
    Adodc1.Refresh
    ElseIf DataGrid1.SelStartCol = 9 Then
    Adodc1.RecordSource = "Select * from tblReservation order by RES_ID"
    Adodc1.Refresh
    ElseIf DataGrid1.SelStartCol = 10 Then
    Adodc1.RecordSource = "Select * from tblReservation order by RES_OP"
    Adodc1.Refresh
    End If
    Do you see where i'm going with this?
    I simple want to use a variable in the "select * from <Table> Order by <Field>"

  • [php+mysql] how to use variables in a select statement?

    Hi all,
    I'm searching for a way to use a variable in the select
    statement of mysql
    query.
    I have this variable that can contain:
    $var=field_1 field_2 field5
    or
    $var=field3 field4 field8
    so, the variable content is not always the same.
    I would like to filter a table selecting only the columns
    specified by the
    current $var content.
    Is this possible to do something like this?
    $var=field1 field5 field10
    SELECT string_to_array($var)
    FROM mytable
    ORDER BY mysortfield ASC
    Or, is there another way to select columns dynamically?
    Thanks for any suggestion.

  • Best way to use OR in a select statement

    HIya,
    I have  list of G/L accounts(HKONT) that I want to get some fields for and just wanted to ask what the best way to do that would be...
    I was thinking of doing this:
    SELECT dmbtr shkzg hkont prctr FROM bseg
    INTO table itab_bseg
    WHERE  bukrs  = it_vbap-bukrs2
    AND    belnr  = it_vbap-belnr2
    AND    gjahr  = it_vbap-gjahr2
    AND    prctr  = it_vbap-prctr
    AND   ( hkont  =  '0000310010' or hkont  = '0000310011' or hkont  = '0000310012' or hkont  = '0000310013').
    But then I read about range tables and I thought maybe I should add the g/l accounts to a range table and then use that in my select?
    Would anyone have any useful advice/guidance?
    Thanks in advance!

    Dear Robert,
    You can use the below query also
    SELECT dmbtr shkzg hkont prctr FROM bseg
    INTO table itab_bseg
    WHERE  bukrs  = it_vbap-bukrs2
    AND    belnr  = it_vbap-belnr2
    AND    gjahr  = it_vbap-gjahr2
    AND    prctr  = it_vbap-prctr
    AND   hkont  in ( '0000310010' , '0000310011' , '0000310012' , '0000310013').
    and create range table for HKONT.
    data lr_range type range of HKONT.
    data ls_Range like line of lr_range.
    ls_range-low = '0000310010' .
    ls_range-sign = 'I'.
    ls_range-option = 'EQ'.
    append ls_Range to lr_range.
    pass all the value one by one.
    and use the same in select.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Using Multiple Parameters in Select Statement

    My goal is to be able to use more than one parameter for the select statement.  When I use OR instead of AND it works but with only one parameter. I thought using AND would return any parameter that is listed in the  ?Report Based On}. Any ideas why this will not work?
    I've created four parameters:
    Report Based on (string)  Allow Multiple Values (Default Values: Customer, Part Id, and Serial Number)
    RMA info by Customer  (string)
    RMA Info by Part Id  (string)
    RMA Info by SN  (string)
    This is my select statement
    (if {?Report Based On} = "Customer" then
        {RMA_Information.Customer}LIKE{?RMA info by Customer})
    and
    (if {?Report Based On} = "Part Id" then
    {RMA_Information.Part Id}LIKE{?RMA Info by Part Id})
    and
    (if {?Report Based On} = "Serial Number" then
      {RMA_Information.Serial Number}={?RMA Info by SN })
    tx Shirley

    Try this...
    IF "Customer" IN {?Report Based On} AND
         "Part Id" IN {?Report Based On} AND
         "Serial Number" IN {?Report Based On}
    THEN {RMA_Information.Customer}LIKE{?RMA info by Customer} AND
         {RMA_Information.Part Id}LIKE{?RMA Info by Part Id} AND
         {RMA_Information.Serial Number}={?RMA Info by SN}
    ELSE
    IF "Customer" IN {?Report Based On} AND
         "Part Id" IN {?Report Based On}
    THEN {RMA_Information.Customer}LIKE{?RMA info by Customer} AND
         {RMA_Information.Part Id}LIKE{?RMA Info by Part Id}
    ELSE
    IF "Customer" IN {?Report Based On} AND
         "Serial Number" IN {?Report Based On}
    THEN {RMA_Information.Customer}LIKE{?RMA info by Customer} AND
         {RMA_Information.Serial Number}={?RMA Info by SN}
    ELSE
    IF "Part Id" IN {?Report Based On} AND
         "Serial Number" IN {?Report Based On}
    THEN {RMA_Information.Part Id}LIKE{?RMA Info by Part Id} AND
         {RMA_Information.Serial Number}={?RMA Info by SN}
    ELSE
    IF "Customer" IN {?Report Based On}
    THEN {RMA_Information.Customer}LIKE{?RMA info by Customer}
    ELSE
    IF "Part Id" IN {?Report Based On}
    THEN {RMA_Information.Part Id}LIKE{?RMA Info by Part Id}
    ELSE
    "Serial Number" IN {?Report Based On}
    THEN {RMA_Information.Serial Number}={?RMA Info by SN}
