Limit to Custom Screen Reader Text for 508 Compliance

I am converting forms for a government Agency. The forms must be Section 508 compliant. Some pages of the forms are full pages of instructional text. I am using a single field to contain all of the accessibility text so that I can control the flow of information through the tab order with limited additional tabbing from the original version. I am adding all of the text in a Jaws friendly format into the Custom Screen Reader Text field under the Accessibility tab in the Object window. When I test the form, Jaws stops reading the Accessibility text about 980 characters in. The only way to get it to read the text in its entirety is to use the down arrow key, which forces the Jaws reader to read it line by line. This is not desirable. Has anyone else experienced this? Why is there a seemingly arbitrary limit to how much Accessibility text that can be passed to Jaws?
I am using Livecycle 7.1 and testing in Acrobat Professional 7 and Adobe Reader 8 with Dynamic PDF 7.0.5.

An associate in the field told me this is not a problem with Adobe's product. Rather it is a problem with Jaws. Apparently he has the same problem with Jaws and IBM Workplace Forms.

Read text for multiple entries(eg: for multiple customers) in XD03

Hello all,
                   I have some (50) customer numbers (XD03) for which i need to find out whether any text is maintained or not.
We can read the text using FM READ_TEXT, by passing Text ID, Name , object..etc.
But the problem is we can just read one by one at a time for each coustomer
Without writing a custom program is there any way to find the text for all the customers or for mutpliple entries.?
do we have any FM where in we can pass multiple text names ...and then we should get all the text assigned to it.

There are two ways to find:
--> STXH table will give the result only if it has the text .
-->There is a standard report name is RVTEXTE...
   We have to give the values as below
Text object: KNA1 (CUSOTMER)
Text type : *
Text lan    : * (or EN)
Text name : * or ( 352*) like this.
I think we all are in the same page......
Also I agree that we have to use FM REAd_TEXT to read the text...through programitically by loop endloop.

i am not at system right now, but I guess object is VBBK. you can do SE16 on STXH, put name as your invoiuce#, iD as your text id, object as VBBK and see if it returns the row. if not leave object as blank and see hwat does it return for object for the given key

Deleting Comments & Stranded Annotations for 508 Compliance

We create PDFs and send them to different departments through Adobe's shared review system so that our editors and subject matter experts can make revision comments. The Graphic Artists then make revisions and send the PDFs back through for more rounds of review. Each round of review may incur a multitude of comments and there is usually multiple rounds of review. In the end those files need to be 508 Compliant to deliver to our customers so prior to delivery we (GAs) must delete the comments. When we do that Acrobat leaves a stranded Popup and Text Annotation for each comment that was previously in the file. These annotations are not associated to any content in the file nor are they tagged in any way which causes the file to fail the 508 Accessibility Check. To remedy that we (the GAs) have to go in and delete each of those stranded annotations one at a time using the Select Object tool. Since we have so many rounds of review, and therefore many many comments, and therefore a lot of those stranded annotations that need to be deleted manually this takes a LONG time.
Using the PDF optimizer or the Preflight cleanup tool DOES get rid of all the comments and those stranded annotations but it strips out ALL the annotations in the file which means ALL the interactivity is gone. We lose all our hyperlinks and buttons which is obviously not going to work either.
So, my question is this: is there a way to remove ALL the comments from a PDF including their accompanying annotations WITHOUT removing all the interactive elements from a file?

If you have Acrobat Pro XI, please check out the "Preflight" tool (Edit -> Preflight; or simply use the Cmd-Shift-X shortcut):
in Acrobat Preflight you have profiles, checks and fixups
in the fixups part search for "Remove all annotations", and duplicate this fixup (using the "Options" menu in the upper right of the Preflight window)
edit the duplicated fixup, and change the option for "Type" from "All" to "All commenting annotations", also make sure to adjust the name of the fixup accordingly
once done, run the fixup on one of your files
Please make sure to also execute the following two steps:
double check whether all those stray anotations are actually gone
double check that those annotations you want to keep are still there
Should any of these two not turn out to be exactly what you need, you may have to finetune the fixup setup (and possibly use several fixups to address annotation types in a more specific manner; should you end up with more than one fixup, you could combine them into a profile). If you have several fiels to clean up, you could also use a batch sequence, e.g. applying the fixup to all files in a given folder. Or you could create a droplet, put it on your desktop, and then drag'n drop your PDFs onto it to do the clean up.

Good afternoon.
I ran a full accessibility check on my pdf file and received notification that "None of the comments or other types of annotations on this page are contained in the structure tree". It stated that I could fix the issue by creating artifacts. Does anyone know how to do this? Any insight would be extremely helpful.

Why is the 'Next' button in 508 Screen Reader mode not working for RichTree

Hi ADF Experts,
My JDeveloper version is 11.1.1.8. The 'Next' button in 508 Screen Reader mode for tables works fine.
However, it does not work for trees, I can see only the first 23 or so items.
Any ideas?
What am I missing here?

There is no official JDeveloper version is 11.1.1.8.0!
If you use an internal build ou should post to an internal forum.

Skip TOC when using screen reader

In Captivate 5.5, can the table of contents be skipped over when using a screen reader? This is for 508 compliance. With the TOC enabled, the user has to go through each item in it before reaching the actual content.

Put the Function module READ_TEXT in LOOP ... ENLOOP.
When you put inside the loop .. based on ID it will change...

CV130 - Custom screen / tab

I need to add a custom screen or tab for DMS. I have screen 9000 in CV130 by copying screen 1204. I have added screen fields PRPS-POSID on the custom screen . I am not able to access the value of POSID when i enter a new value in the screen . In normal module program you have to code for the same but in this the other tabs it is working fine with same code as in 1204 but not for the custom screen. Do we need to do anything for this ?

The sales order program (SAPMV45A) has the "old" screen-exit where you can implement an own your screen.
There are 2 screen:
- One for header: 8309
- One for item: 8459
If you active these screen (subscreen) a the tab "Addiional Data B" will be available

Flex 3 And Section 508 Compliance

Hey guys,
We are developing a new RIA that has pretty complex screens,
navigation system, modal modules loading on top of others, detailed
interaction with grids, trees, etc. and a requirement for making it
508 compliant has come across my desk.
I've done a bit of research on what Adobe has to offer on
their compliance. The components look to be compliant, but from
what I can tell the compliance works best on simple forms and
screens that don't require a great deal of complexity. I'm also
having trouble finding real world examples of people who have
developed complex RIAs in Flex made for 508 compliance.
Silverlight is also being evaluated, and I'm not sure if they
are any better when it comes to the complexity of a deep RIA.
Does anyone here have any experience developing for 508 in
Flex, and if so can you shed some light on what challenges a
developer might face, or any short comings of Flex that would
prevent it from conforming to 508?
I'd also appreciate any RIAs anyone can point me to that are
508 compliant, they seem to be few and far, even the ones listed at
Adobe, most are broken links or no longer available.

That is a concern for state governments as well. We (alaska)
are required to make our (outward facing) sites compliant. Flex
will not allow that unless you stick to the basics ... however, if
you do that, then you might as well script in html as the results
would be basically the same.

508 Compliance Question

I work at a college and have to create complex Section 508-compliant PDFs throughout the year. Though you've probably upgraded to CS6 or higher, I thought I'd share info on an ID plug-in that is very helpful with determining and setting the reading order from within ID. It is called "FrameMaker," by Rorohiko, and it puts a tiny label on each frame of a page. For example, if I select a frame, the reading order "number" will show on the top right of the frame. So I'll know immediately that I need to fix the order before creating a pdf.
Very inexpensive. Definitely worth the money.

508 compliance Rendering

Hi ,
Could you please let me know how to dynamically change the 508 compliance to normal view and from normal view to 508 compliance.
I was able to change the accessibility mode in triandad.xml file to screen reader to change the normal UI to 508 compliance mode, But I am doing it manually . Could you please let mek know how can we achieve with a button click in UI .
I mean to say by clicking a button in UI page the screen should change to 508 compliance dynamically .

I'm going to say no. This is because it is currently
impossible to publish a Captivate output in .FLV format. At least,
not from Captivate as it ships.
