Limit to Password Protected Galleries

It appears there is a 50 password limit in iPhoto 8. I reached this limit yesterday and can now only upload further galleries without passwords.
Just wondered if there is any workaround to this. Could I upgrade to a "Family Pack" for instance and have multiple galleries?
Hope you can help
DD

I don't know the answer to your question but have you considered having passwords assigned to groups of people instead of a separate password for each gallery? If the people you want viewing them can be grouped that way it might simplify managing the galleries.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Using mobileme password protected galleries on iWeb

I have a bunch of galleries on my mobileme gallery; most of them are visible only by specific users. I would like to use them on a iWeb (password protected) web site but the option Insert-> MobileMe Gallery is only available for public galleries not for password protected ones. Is there any workaround for this?

You could try embedding a Gallery in your iWeb page — see this old thread:
...or you could hyperlink from an iWeb page to a Gallery.

  • Can photo galleries be password protected?  How?

Under my iWeb I have several dozen of the "old" style photo pages, and several dozen photo galleries. I have never applied a password to any part of my iWeb. Is it possible to password protect each of these pages (both pages and the new photo galleries)? If so, how? And, if so, can I apply a password to everything at one time, or would I have to do so to each page and gallery? Thank you!

Yes, it can.  Use File > Properties, and click the Security tab. Click Change, and set what you need. When the file is saved, the security is set.
BE SURE TO KEEP THE ORIGINAL FILE TOO.

  • Password Protection for MobileMe Galleries

I want to have per friend a different login that I can apply on a MobileMe gallery, however it seems only to take 1 per gallery. Did I miss something ?
It seems as if it is only taking one user&password combo per gallery. However this would limit people very much in managing the access rights to different galleries.
For Example, Friend A should only see Galleries A, B with their login
Friend B should only see Galleries A and C with their login
Friend C should only see Galleries A, C and D with their login
How can it be done ?

Here is how I understand it to work.
If Friend A should only see Galleries A, B then you give that friend the username and password for Galleries A & B only.
If Friend B should only see Galleries A and C, then you give that friend the username and password only for Galleries A and C only
    And so forth.
You can only assign 1 user name and 1 password per gallery. So it's not necessarily a persons name and a specific password for that person only, it's a username and password specific only to that gallery.
You can however assign the same user name and password to more then 1 gallery.
For example, maybe you have galleries that only family members should see. You could assign a username of "Family" and a password of "only" to all of the galleries that you want only your family members to access That way they wouldn't have to remember a bunch of different user names and passwords for all the different galleries, they would only have to remember 1 user name and 1 password.
    Does that help at all?

Because people have been requesting a password protected gallery for some time now, I dug around and found a good way to password protect any gallery or webpage you'd like. A brief tutorial:

  • Iweb and using mobileme password protected photo gallery

I am trying to create a website. How can I access a password protected photo gallery by using MobileMe gallery widget in iweb. I need this capability. The unprotected galleries display using the MobileMe widget. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the discussions. Try this...
    • Temporarily unprotect the Gallery
    • The Gallery should now appear in the list of available Galleries — add it
    • Protect the Gallery

  • Reminder needed: how to set password protection  for all uses of  computer

It's been a long time coming, but I feel that I need to limit the access to all materials on a Mac running OS 9.2.
Is there a simple way that I can password protect the whole computer?
Thanks for your time - and stay cool!

    Hi, Bruce -
Try using Multiple Users to do that. One of its features is password access to use any account.
This will provide a moderate level of security - however, a knowledgeable person will have little trouble defeating it.

  • Password protected site and gallery: no go

    Hi,
i'm trying to publish a password protected site to mobileme. The site will contain links to mobileme galleries (password protected too).
first issue: i can't add a protected gallerie to iweb, iweb doesn't show it. After removing the protection ("visible to everone") it works. After setting up the site, i turned on the protection again.
Now my browser ask for the password for every gallery on the page (it's the same user and password for every gallery and the site).
I don't think, that my visitors will like that...

  • Can't access password protected .Mac Web Gallery

Safari is my primary browser. I have been creating web galleries using iLife '08 and my .Mac account and then viewing them with Safari for the past month or so with no trouble. This weekend I tried creating a password protected web gallery and it won't load in Safari. The gear icon just spins forever and has timed out when I have left it alone long enough. My other web galleries continue to load just fine. Clicking on the link from within iPhoto for my password protected gallery doesn't work, typing the url into Safari doesn't work, going to my gallery index and clicking on the icon of the "locked" gallery doesn't work, etc. I can still view all of my other web galleries, but this one that I'm trying to protect just won't load.
This actually appears to be a Safari problem. I don't get a dialog asking for User Name and Password. The url works just fine using Firefox on my Mac, and it also works on a PC running Windows XP. When using something other than Safari, I get the prompt for User Name and Password that I would expect. Upon entering that information, everything looks normal and works just fine.
Tsk tsk Apple! Safari shouldn't be having trouble displaying protected .Mac web galleries. Sheesh!

Just wanted to let you know that I have the EXACT SAME problem, except it is affecting my password protected iWeb site and my Gallery. I can view it from Firefox, so that is the web browser I am using now. I sent a bug report to Apple, and I also send them a request for help using e-mail, but so far I have gotten no response. Hopefully someone is working on the fix?

  • IPhoto - MobileMe gallery subscription - problem with password-protected

I am having a peculiar problem with subscribed galleries from MobileMe in iPhoto 08 and iPhoto 09. For galleries that have password-protection enabled, the full URL of the gallery subscription feed is pulled through as the Subscription title instead of the gallery title.
    For example "http://gallery.e.com/ACCOUNT-NAME/XXXXXX/?webdav-method-truthget&depth=infinit y&feedfmt=atom....
This doesn't occur for public MobileMe galleries. The title of the gallery comes across and the URL of the subscription is hidden.
Anyone having similar problems? Local Genius Bar couldn't help and assumed it was just a bug, but it doesn't seem to be typical of Apple.
As an aside, it would also be nice to have these feed subscriptions behave similarly to the way RSS subscriptions work in Mail, with the ability to select how often the feed is queried and indicate the number of new items. This would alert users of changes to feeds.
    Joe

Upon further research, it appears that this problem occurs when publishing from either iPhoto or Aperture to MobileMe. The problem seems to be when a gallery is published and one chooses not to have the gallery appear on the main gallery page (hidden). It seems to have nothing to do with whether or not one protects the gallery with a password.
So, Apple, if you are listening, can you provide any information on how to have the title of the gallery come through when subscribing using iPhoto while at the same time not listing the gallery on the main MobileMe gallery page? This seems to be a fixable bug.

  • Password protecting a gallery?

    Hello all,
This is my first post in the Apple support discussions!
I was wondering if there is a way to password a specific gallery in iWeb '08, and not the whole site?
I'm a photographer and would like to be able to have client specific galleries that are password protected, so only myself and the client can access their galleries.
    I publish to Mobileme.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Since only an entire site can be password protected your option is to create a new site for each client with just the photo gallery page(s) in it. You can then add a hyperlink to that gallery on your public site.
If you would want to have each private gallery/site in the navbar of the public site create a blank page for each client and named for that client. Then add the code in this demo page to an HTML snippet:
Redirect. When a client clicks on the navbar link he will immediately be taken to the protected site.
You can put a similar blank page on the protected sites pointing back to the public site.

  • Is there any way to password protect a shared library?

I have 2 shared libraries in my home network.  I have 6 iPad minis (I've got a lot of kids) and 2 AppleTVs using those libraries.  However, one library is more adult content (Rated PG-13 and R stuff) while the other one contains lots of cartoons and kid movies.  I want my kids to only be able to access the kids library while my other library is still available (without lots of account shuffling and such) when my wife and I finally get a chance to watch movies.  Is there a way to lock the one library down so my kids can't access it while in our network?

No. You can hide images using the "reject" rating, and you can password protect a Library by putting it on a password-protected sparsebundle.
    A good answer
A search of this Discussion forum.
OS X has fast-user switching and a built-in Guest account.  I never allow anyone access to my account.
To limit a client's view to just his/her Projects, use Aperture's "Favorites" function.  A forum regular -- Shutters33d, iirc -- posted this excellent suggestion just a couple of days ago.

  • Is there a way to password protect a photosmart printer so that others cannot use it?

Is there a way to password protect a PhotoSmart printer?

The core printing system (CUPS) can apply a print quota to a printer, such as 5 pages per day, but this limit would apply to all users - not just the kids.
There is an application called PaperCut that can control usage and there appears to be a free version for 5 users or less.

  • How to password protect an existing MobileMe gallery folder?

I have created quite a few large events and published them on MobileMe, and did not think about restricting access to them. Now I want to password protect some of them, but could not find a place in iPhoto where I could change MobileMe gallery properties. Is there a way to do this without deleting and publishing again? Or change access privileges to these galleries in the future?

While viewing the gallery in iPhoto click on the Setting cog wheel button at the bottom. In the window that comes click on the Advanced button. Now you can hid the gallery from your other galleries and assign a username and password to it.
