Limit users access to Spotlight

We have an IBook lab at our school with users accounts for all grades, K-8. I just noticed that using Find in any of our otherwise managed user accounts allows that account to access files in all shared folders. Is there any way of turning this off?

at my school they've just disabled the find feeature altogether which can be done through spotlight prefs, if you just want to stop spotlight from searching certain places you can do that too.
really though I didn't know that this was a problem. oh and a warning, it's extremely easy to disable this if you don't have Open Firmware enabled.

  • Oracle App Server limit user access

    Hi guys!
Is there such function in OAS where I can limit a users access to a certain page?
I have registered my users in OID and I want to set limits to specific pages (limiting which user can access which page or not)...
    Appreciate any help..

They are different. Oracle Application Server is Oracle's application server prior to the BEA acquisition. WebLogic Server is a completely separate product and will be the strategic application server going forward at Oracle, although Oracle Application Server will still be maintained and supported.

  • Using SSDs to limit user access to hosts

I have a question about limiting user access to a host using SSDs. Is there any reason I should not do the following?:
In the profile for the ldap client, myhost:
    serviceSearchDescriptor: passwd: ou=People,dc=example,dc=com?sub(|(host=myhost)(host=production)(host=ALL))
    Then in the users account:
    dn: uid=juser, ou=People,dc=example,dc=com
    host: myhost <---------------------------------------------------------------
    loginShell: /bin/ksh
    gecos: Joe User
    cn: juser
    uidNumber: 5555
    gidNumber: 5555
    homeDirectory: /export/home/juser
    objectClass: posixAccount
    objectClass: shadowAccount
    objectClass: account
    objectClass: top
    uid: juser
    etc
I can add a single host, an environment (production), or all hosts for admins by editing user account. It seems to work fine in testing. I just don't want to get blind-sided by some glitch later. I am using Solaris 8,9, and 10 native clients and SunONE 5.2 DS with TLS.

Thanks Gary. I sent you an email before I posted here. I wasn't sure if this is where you "hang out". :)
I was thinking after posting here that I might want to do it with shadow instead of passwd so that permissions of files still showed the owner instead of id even if the owner were not allow to login. A somewhat rare situation, but it happens.

  • Limit user Access to Return Data in Report

Have reporst that I need to limit what is returned. The person running the report should only see the data that they own. Is this possible. Can I set an attribute based on the person who has signed on to Discoverer and use that in the select to limit the data returned.
    Thanks,

    Yes, it's possible!
You can use the VPD (Virtuall Private Database) feature of the database.

  • Removing user access after hours

    All,
We are running Oracle 10g. What is the best way to remove user access after hours say from 5:00 pm to 6:00 am? I have searched this site and the only thread that I found was Can I limit user access to Oracle DB based on time?? which is not helpful to me. My manager wants users to access the Database only during the user's work hours which is M-F 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Creating a logon trigger will need a restart of the database, but I think it is the best approach.
Am not sure why restart would be required?
Possibly creating a seperate listener entry on a different port especially for the users could also be a solution.
Then after 05:00 pm, stop that perticular listener only
    HTH
What if I know the port number of another listener?

  • Power Shell Web Access - How to limit the cmdlets and give regular users, access to perform tasks

It is possible to give to regular/standard users, powershell web access to give only, for example, "get-" cmdlets?
The ideia is to provide help desk tech users, a minimum level of access on some servers, and it will be usefull to give then, basic and restrcted access to a few cmdlets, performe harmless activities and mybe some level of access, not alloweing to to using
    RDP, but PS, insted

While PowerShell Web Access (PSWA) does require authorization rules to function, these rules do not specify what cmdlets can be used in a PSRemoting session. The PSWA authorization rules define what user, or group of users, can remotely connect to what computer,
or group of computers, through the PSWA gateway (the PSWA server).
What you need to research are session configurations and/or endpoints. These are separate from PSWA, but can be used in conjunction with PSWA (PSWA website > Optional connection settings > Configuration >
NameOfConfiguration), just as they can in a standard console-based PSRemoting session (Enter-PSSession -ComputerName
server01 -Configuration NameOfConfiguration -or- Invoke-Command -ComputerName
    server01 -Configuration NameOfConfiguration).
Start your research with New-PSSessionConfigurationFile and then Register- and Unregister-PSSessionConfiguration. These have been great for our environment, allowing non-admin users access to run very specific cmdlets as an admin, without being an admin
    on the computer.

  • How to  limit the access of a transaction

please provide hw to create an authorization object... like hw to limit the access of a particular userdefined trasaction to a particular user

    hi
    good
    Element of the authorization concept.
Authorization objects allow you to define complex authorizations.
An authorization object groups together up to 10 authorization fields in an AND relationship in order to check whether a user is allowed to perform a certain action.
To pass an authorization test for an object, the user must satisfy the authorization check for each field in the object.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/52/671285439b11d1896f0000e8322d00/content.htm
    Basic form->
    AUTHORITY-CHECK OBJECT object
    ID name1 FIELD f1
    ID name2 FIELD f2
    ID name10 FIELD f10.
    Example
Check whether the user is authorized for a particular plant. In this case, the following authorization object applies:
Table OBJ : Definition of authorization object
    M_EINF_WRK
    ACTVT
    WERKS
Here, M_EINF_WRK is the object name, whilst ACTVT and WERKS are authorization fields. For example, a user with the authorizations
    M_EINF_WRK_BERECH1
    ACTVT 01-03
    WERKS 0001-0003 .
can display and change plants within the Purchasing and Materials Management areas.
Such a user would thus pass the checks
    AUTHORITY-CHECK OBJECT 'M_EINF_WRK'
        ID 'WERKS' FIELD '0002'
        ID 'ACTVT' FIELD '02'.
    AUTHORITY-CHECK OBJECT 'M_EINF_WRK'
        ID 'WERKS' DUMMY
        ID 'ACTVT' FIELD '01':
    but would fail the check
    AUTHORITY-CHECK OBJECT 'M_EINF_WRK'
        ID 'WERKS' FIELD '0005'
        ID 'ACTVT' FIELD '04'.
To suppress unnecessary authorization checks or to carry out checks before the user has entered all the values, use DUMMY - as in this example. You can confirm the authorization later with another AUTHORITY-CHECK .

  • Limit infoset access in SQ01

    Hi experts,
We created an infoset and assigned it to a user group.  Then we assigned one user to this user group and yet other users can create queries using the user group and infoset.
How can we limit the access of other users not assigned on the user group?
    Thank you.

    Don't really understand your problem.
Do you mean that the infoset is assigned, say, to User group 1.
User A is asigned to User group1. User B is not.
User B can also make use of the infoset
    Is that your problem?

  • Can multiple XP users access the same iTunes library?

Because I'm having a REALLY hard time getting that to work at all. I've moved my entire iTunes folder into 'Shared Documents' so that all users should be able to access it and changed the option in iTunes Preferences to the correct 'all users' path, but iTunes still tries to find the info in 'my' (sal's) documents instead of 'all.'
Anyone figure this out, or does it somehow break the EULA and isn't supported? The wife and I just want to use the same library since we're on one computer. Seems silly to not allow a user with admin rights to allow other users access.
    Thanks,
    Sal
      Windows XP

    Sal,
As this article in the Apple Knowledge Base explains the trick is to move the iTunes Music folder, not the entire iTunes folder, to "a publicly accessible location" and I believe they mean to suggest C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Music as a good place.
It is important that the iTunes Library files remain in Sal's Documents and Sal's Wife's Documents.

  • Multiple simutaneously logged in users accessing AFP home directories?

    Hi,
Many of our problems are described in this guy's blog:
    http://alblue.blogspot.com/2006/08/rantmac-migrating-from-afp-to-nfs.html
The basic capability we want is to have multiple simultaneously logged in users to have access to their AFP mounted home directory, which is configured in a sane, out-of-the box setup using WGM and Server Admin.
Multiple user access could take the form of FUS (fast user switching), or simply allowing a user to SSH into a machine that another user is already logged into and expect to be able to manipulate the contents of her home directory.
From my extensive searches, I have no reason to believe this is currently possible with 10.4 Server and AFP.
(here's the official word from apple: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25581)
I've read that using NFS home directories will work, though.
I want to believe that Apple has a solution for this by now (it's been almost a year since we first had difficulty), or at least a sanctioned workaround. If Apple doesn't have one, maybe someone else has come up with something clever. I find it hard to believe that more people haven't wanted this capability! (not being able to easily search the discussion boards doesn't help, though...)
    Thanks for your help!

  • Service Desk User access

    Hi Experts,
I want my service desk users login on Solman and they can update Msg status and ther remarks.
so what are auth. object needs on there profile, please suggest.
Can we block users access in such a way , they are not able to do add change on other users issue msg.
bcoz , if i give access on crm_dno_monitor to any user, he may access and process all issue tickets.
    Thanks
    Andrew

    Andree,
Actually we provide variants for crm_dno_monitor.
so they have option of seeing only tickets belonging to themselves only
For e.g create a variant of crm_dno_monitor by choosing mine and then save it and create a ztcode in se93 for the same.
assign this tcode for the user menu to the respective role of the user.
So whn this user logs in and click on the link he sees only mine tickets or tickets belonging to him..he doesnt hav access to crm_dno_monitor.
    Pls assign pts.

  • How to set up reverse proxy to allow user access portal site from internet

    Hi all,
I have installed 10g(10.1.2.0.2) AS on same machine(single IP for both mid and infra with different users respectively). there is a DMZ on which windows IIS is working through which we need to redirect the request to application server such that users access portal page from internet (within intranet all URLs are working fine). I have went through technet documentation where i found 3 ways : through this link
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/core.1012/b13998/variants.htm
Section 9.2.1.1, "Configuring OracleAS Web Cache as a Reverse Proxy"
Section 9.2.1.2, "Configuring the Oracle HTTP Server as a Reverse Proxy"
Section 9.2.1.3, "Configuring Internet Information Services as a Reverse Proxy"
I am confused to which option to use. Also i went through the metalink document 270160.1
Please help me which option to choose to do this.
    Thanks.

    Hi Hozy,
May be it's too late, I am thinking to go in the same route for our sap portal access to external customers. Please can you share your experience , like what are the challenges have you faced? what is the complexity? what are all the resources we need to configure this?
    I appreciate your feedback.
    Thanks

  • How to trace an user access

Even if I've got no DBA permission (for example I don't see the v$session table), have I got any way to trace the users accessing the DB? How can I do? I was told about trace but can someone tell me more? I'd like to know the user accessing the DB and the operation that he's launching. Is it possible?
    Thanks!

Anything is possible if you have the correct privileges. But then you probably don't have those privileges, and probably for a reason, as you probably also don't have the DBA role for a reason.
If you are to enable trace in a different session, you would need execute access on an Oracle provided package, which differs by version, and of course you assume Oracle never changes, and there is only one version out there: yours.
For a DBA it would be the easiest to grant you the select_catalog_role and the execute_catalog_role.
But then again one would ask why you think you should spy on him, and why you don't cooperate with him and/or try to convince him.
