Limitations of Oracle 11g

I was just wondering what kind of limitations the free version of Oracle 11g has. How many computers can be connected to it the DB? Is there a size limit of the DB. Does it work over a VPN? I want to use it for a small company with about 15 computers I just want to know what limitations it has?

Hello,
I have downloaded the Oracle 11g Enterprise editionFor commercial or production purpose Enterprise Edition is not free of charge, but may be some Asteroïd has just impacted the Earth :-) ...
You may review the OTN License Agreement:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/licenses/standard-license-152015.html
The following may be interesting:
LICENSE RIGHTS
We grant you a nonexclusive, nontransferable limited license to use the programs only for the purpose of developing, testing, prototyping and demonstrating your application, and not for any other purpose. If you use the application you develop under this license for any internal data processing or for any commercial or production purposes, or you want to use the programs for any purpose other than as permitted under this agreement, you must obtain a production release version of the program by contacting us or an Oracle reseller to obtain the appropriate license. For small business, Standard Edition One may be a good choice and is rather cheap (about 180 US$/User Named License).
Hope this help.
Best regards,
Jean-Valentin

  • Project Variable limitation in Oracle 11G BPM

    hi,
Is there any limitation with Oracle 11G BPM on the number of project variable that can be created for a given BPMN processs ??
example , instance is not getting created if the number of int Project variable is more than 10. If there are 10 INT project variable , instance getting created ...
    Thanks

    Hi,
Oracle doesn't provide the source code 11g Worklist. If you want to customize the existing worklistapp, then you can try modifying the jsfs in exploded directory, but that requires tedious knowledge in ADF.
I would recommend to write your custom worklist app. Oracle provides various taskflows available in JDeveloper, you can just include them in the application to make things work.

  • Oracle 11g express --- Wish list --- Match or beat IBM and Microsoft

Oracle's significant competitors IBM and Microsoft have had support for XSLT and XQuery in their express editions for a while. My wish-list for Oracle 11g express is to match it or even beat it. With increasing adoption of XML a lot of innovation is happening. Oracle is a no-show here.
I had to switch to DB2 from Oracle to be able to take advantange of the IBM Db2 express. Along the way, I will end up purchasing their high-end DB2 offering also.
    Later ...
    /rk

I see Oracle in a dilemma here.
Oracle 11g SE One Processor Perpetual costs $5,800 - dillute this over 3 years and you have a VERY GOOD database for a VERY affordable price. For small shops, this is a no-brainer over Standard Edition.
But alas, suppose 11g XE supports 2 CPUs, 2 GB of RAM and 20 GB of storage!
Let's think about it. A fast, robust, mature, fully-featured database - for FREE. But wait, there's more - APEX is FREE as well.
XE and APEX make a killer combo. XE's hard-coded limits are cumbersome, but creative DBAs/developers manage to create impressive solutions nonetheless. Without Oracle making a single dollar in licenses.
Simply put, I think 11g XE with 2 CPUs, 2GB RAM and 20 GB of storage would take away customers from Oracle - those currently buying Oracle 11g SE One Processor Perpetual. OK, XE comes with no support, but still, $0 is less than $5,800. The difference is even more significant in a scenario of economic downturn.
It will be interesting to see how Oracle handles this.

    Georger

Hi, Oracle's significant competitors IBM and Microsoft, is true.
But Oracle does not seem to care because the niche is selling software. However, when entering the world of the express editions should confront its closest competitors by relaxing the limits on Oracle Database XE, remove certain restrictions to be at the level of competence DB2 Expreess C 9.5 which has no storage limits and uses up 2 processors and 2GB of RAM.
As someone suggested in another thread, it is possible that Oracle Database XE is the leader of the Express editions, but must improve, I think it would be best to enter the world of the MacOS and relax the limits of storage, memory and CPU. We must offer competitive!.

Make sure you have ssh configured properly on both nodes.
Do you have the Oracle Clusterware Installation 11g Release (whatever your platform is)?
Read this section 2.12.3 Enabling SSH User Equivalency on Cluster Member Nodes
    Try this on rac1.
    ssh rac2 date
    Try this on rac2.
    ssh rac1 date
If these don't return the date of the other host you haven't configured SSH properly.

  • Oracle 11g on a Domain Controller

    Hi
I'm very new to Oracle so all help appreciated. Is it OK to install Oracle 11g od a DC? ANy limits to users etc? And is there an issue making a server a DC AFTER Oracle is installed?
    Thanks
    G

In the past in courses Oracle has recommended against using a DC as database server.
This is because there is constant activity from and to all computers in the network, and this activity is interfering with similar Oracle activities.
In short: this system will be a bottleneck. Also: if you need to take down the DC, the database server will be down to and vice versa.
Not recommended, unless your creditcard has worn out.

  • Ordered processing required from Oracle 11g on Linux to BizTalk Server

Need a viable solution enabling ordered processing (OP) of messages from Oracle 11g on Linux allowing for ordered delivery to subscribers in BizTalk over MSMQ.
We are currently running BizTalk 2010 (with Adapter Pack 2010) and are using ordered delivery for inbound messages to Oracle (received from msmq) but not for outbound messages since the Wcf-adapters doesn't support Ordered Processing in a receive port/location
(except for msmq). However, we do need to implement ordered processing for outbound messages also. It's a major drawback that the Wcf-adapters does not support ordered processing not even with restricted or limited functionality.
Our current implementation is polling Oracle using the Wcf-adapter calling PLSQL-package functions that handles all logic and returns a pre-built XML in a CLOB/string to BizTalk.
Since Oracle is hosted on Linux we can't switch the PLSQL-logic to use Oracle COM-automation and post XML directly into MSMQ which otherwise would have been a quick solution. Also no WebSphere MQ (MQSeries) exists on the premises ruling out that adapter.
    Preferences:
    - Stable and reliable message transfer with ordered processing from Oracle to BizTalk
    - Messaging only pattern (generic) preferred over custom Orchestations (such as re-sequencing pattern)
    - Products preferred over custom development (within reasonable price limits).
    - Follow Microsoft best practices if possible
In-house development of a custom BizTalk adapter or a nt-service bridging from Oracle to MSMQ could be considered as an option.

Thanks for the reply but it's not that easy I'm afraid, if it had then this post would never have been written.
We're retrieving one message at the time and with pollWhileDataFound=true so that's all good.
The problem is that the inner workings of the wcf-adapters are multithreaded and can not guarantee ordered delivery (which also has proven itself).
The answer why can be found in this post
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/paolos/archive/2009/11/17/customizing-and-extending-the-biztalk-wcf-adapters.aspx
Here's the crucial part: "The WCF Adapters create a separate ServiceHost and singleton service object of this class for each receive location to handle client requests for the lifetime of the BizTalk Host instance running WCF receive locations. The service
object uses multiple threads to process messages concurrently unless the WCF-NetMsmq receive locations are used with the Ordered processing property being selected"
(this is also why I'm wondering why Microsoft doesn't provide the option to run ordered delivery with other wcf-bindings than NetMsmq...)
The search for ordered processing out of Oracle continues...
    regards
    /Henrik

Oracle 11g does not support Ubuntu. It can be installed, but requires word-around:

  • Practical use of Flashback Archive in Oracle 11g

    Hi all,
    <br>
    <br>
With Oracle 11g, I have a conclusion on Flashback Archive and I'd like to know your opinion about it.
    <br>
    <br>
    With the following limitation:
    <br>
"For a table with Flashback Archiving enabled, you cannot issue the following DDL commands: <br>
ALTER TABLE (except adding a column), DROP TABLE, RENAME TABLE, TRUNCATE TABLE"

On the other hand most user defined auditing answers the 'what happened here?' question that auditors ask, but not the 'what did the data look like then?' associated question (except by hard graft).

  • Not able to connect to oracle 11g database source through OBI Server

    Hi,
I am having an issue regarding the database connectivity.
Iam unable to connect to the oracle 11g database through OBI server. However its connecting through SQL Plus with same username/password@hoststring. Its giving the error as :
[nQSError: 17001]Oracle Error code:1017,message:ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied at OCI call OCILogon
[nQSError: 17014]Could not connect to Oracle database.
Please help me out in resolving the issue.

If it's working in one place and not the other then it's obviously not an OBIEE problem.
Are you typing it in right??
Do you have multiple tnsnames.ora files pointing to different databases, maybe sqlplus is picking up one and toad & OBIEE the other and so the username/pw is wrong for that database?
There's a limited amount that can be said to help, as the error is 100% clear what the problem is :) it's just working out whether you're connecting to the database that you think you are connecting to, and then whether the username & PW you're entering is correct for that DB.
BTW OBIEE 10.1.3.4 is supported with 11g, and we're using it without problem here.

  • Error In ReInstalling the Oracle 11g  Database

    Hi,
I have installed the Oracle 11g before but it was an improper one.I uninstalled it completely by running the Universal Installer and deinstalling the products.
After that ,i installed the Oracle 11g again on the system again and while installing the Database by running the Database Configuration Assistant,i got the error as
    ORA 27102:out of memory
I have checked the memory size which i have specified during the installation but it was all default values that were provided.
    Please help.....

Platform? 32 or 64 bit? By default 40% of physical RAM is allocated , that may be too much because of platform or wordsize limitations.

  • Oracle 11g RAC hp-unix 11.31安装

    在linux安装11g RAC的时候需要在 /etc/security/limits.conf 对oracle,grid进行设置。
    HP-UNIX有没有类似的地方进行设置?

Away from these things – anythings I need to configure or any services that I need to stop – like listener etc.It depends on setting you want.
You may use two listeners separately or you can use one listener (9i) for both versions.
If you decide to use two listeners (better option) then they must be listening on different ports (of course) and you don't need to stop or reconfigure anything on 8i.
If you want use one listener for both instances (8i,9i) then you need to configure listener.ora for both instances and you should use 9i listener. But this option is not good as the first one.
Just little hint. Create in user's home new enviroment file (for example .oracle9) with completely new enviroment for 9i. Then for work with 9i simply reset the enviroment by execution of ". .oracle9".
Basicaly you don't need to stop anything during installation (but for sure you could to prevent some mistake during installtion) but installation could affect the server's performance.

  • Script to STAR/STOP Oracle 11g Std.One DB on Windows Server 2008

    Hi, all
Every friday we need backup our Windws Server 2008 ( Full backup),

3.- 5:10 Wait until the backup is finished (2 hours aprox.) in a external disk.

Thanks in advance.Just like any scripting .. same commands you would issue at a command line .. put them in a script file. Unfortuanately, Windows, among it's various scripting limitations (vis a vis *nix) does not all the kind of input redirection needed to do it in a single file.
    Solution is something like this:
    echo shutdown immedate > shutdown.sql
    echo exit >> shutdown.sql
    sqlplus / as sysdba @ shutdown.sql
    del shutdown.sql
exitput that in a .cmd file. schedule .cmd file
