Limited Access Connectivity

Hi,
We are using 5508 WLAN controllers in our corporate environment. Few users started getting Limited Access Connectivity. Eventhough we enable and disable wifi adapter it was the same case..The signal strength of the Radio is Excellend and when i see ipconfig..it was showing 169.X.X.X .... default IP...

Client authentication is successful.  Yes other clients are able to join the same SSID.
One more thing, one user who is able to connect to wifi at his cubicle is getting limited connectivity if he moves to any conference room. In the same conference room other users are able to authenticate and successfully connecting to the wifi with same SSID. The user who is not able to connect in the conferece room, eventhough if he enable / disable wifi adapter or if he restarts also the same getting limited access..if he moves again to his cubicle he is able to connect to wifi...I am sure DHCP pool is not full. If DHCP scope is full we get a notification from monitoring system.

  • WRT54G Limited Access in Vista

I have an XP and a Vista machine on my wireless network. The Vista computer keeps going into limited Access Connection after it is on for a while. The XP machine never looses connection. To connect again all I have to do is disconnect from the network then reconnect and it works fine, but I hate having to do that all the time. My cousin with Vista and a WRT54G router has this same problem also.

Update firmware, perform hard reset. Set all settings again. Change wireless channel to 1,6,9,11 and check which is best for you. Change advanced wireless settings : change beacon interval to 50, fragmentation threshold to 2306, RTS threshold to 2307, DTIM to 2

  • ThinkVantage Access Connections and Limited User Account (LUA) on XP SP3

Is it really so that one has to be logged on with at least Power User privileges to get the Access Connections utility working properly with 3G/HSDPA? When logging on as a Limited User, the computer can find all the cell phone operators nearby but does not let to do a connect. But when logged on as a Power User, all problems go away.
I would not like to bump up my user privileges from Limited User to Power User, since all else seems to work fine with a Limited User Account. Any ideas about what is going wrong -- or did I just hit into a wall here?
The environment in question is Thinkpad X200 and XP SP3. Access Connections and the HSDPA driver are the latest ones I could find from the Lenovo driver download site (Access Connections v. 5.21, Ericsson HSDPA driver v. 1.0.1046.221).
Would there be any other way to use 3G connections than to use the Access Connections utility (without changing to another o/s)?

    Hi Sami,
I just got stuck on the same problem as you and following is what I found in details fro ThinkVantage Access Connections version 5.30. Hope this helps.

    <Limited User>
A Limited user can create and apply only modem profiles. However, if
Administrator sets "Allow Windows users without administrator
privileges to create and apply location profiles" option in the
Global settings then the user can create and apply any kinds of
      profiles in the system.
      Also, a limited user cannot:
      1. Edit setting for the Automatic Ethernet and Wireless location
         profiles switching.
      2. Edit Global settings.
      3. Edit profiles created by another user in the system.
      4. Renew or release IP in the Diagnostics panel.
      5. Export profiles.
The limitations on Power user also apply on Limited user.

  • Lenovo G400s Wireless Connection Limited Access on Windows 7 Ultimate - 32 bit

Just bought Lenovo G400s, install windows 7 ultimate - 32 bit on it.
It turns out the wireless network driver need to install manually, the disc driver that came with laptop was for windows 8.1. So I went to lenovo website, put on the series and download the wirelss network driver which is around 250 MB.
I installed the driver and connect to the wireless network. My office wireless was on security and use static ip. I changed the ipv4 ip static already. It connected for a while, 1-2 second then lost connection. I checked with ping to google, got 2 records of live connection which is very short. After that it try to reconnecting itself again and again with status said "Limited Access"
I search in google, read some forums about problem in different series, so I use another computer go to Intel website to download latest driver. Got it installed, but it's still the same.
I try download broadcom driver, but it's really different and doesn't work at all.
Now I don't know what to do.
    Windows 7 Ultimate - 32 bit
    Inter(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 135
    Driver Provider: Intel
    Driver Date: 1/26/2014
    Driver Version: 15.11.0.7
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compability Publisher
What makes it weird, although from intel website said the driver date is in 3/21/2014, and the version is 16.11.0, but this information I get from device driver was different.
    Here's the intel's website if you're wondering:

    Can anyone help me?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Today I want to install windows 8.1 on it, because the laptop came with windows 8.1 driver disc.
However, I try the wireless connection once again , one final try before I clean install the OS.
It turns out the internet connection is connected. Ping is quite stable, got a small drop. Nonetheless, IT'S CONNECTED!!!
I don't know what happened, I tried thousand ways yesterday and gave up. Today I don't set anything just try connecting with static IP set the ipv4 just like I did yesterday, and it connects without hassle!! is there a pc fairy or what?
The possible way I can think of is the router's internet connection's got restarted since It's a new day at office.
Despite how it solved still mystery to me, I think I mark this thread as Solved.

  • Vista - Connected with Limited Access???

Please help!!! This problem is driving me mad. Every time I try to connect to the router whilst wireless it says "Connected with Limited Access"? I then plug the cable back in and "ta dah" it works fine. I have tried almost everything and cannot understand the problem - can anyone help?

try this one out.. click start >> networks >> network and sharing center >> manage my wireless network >> and on this page remove all wireless networks listed and restart your PC.

  • Limitation of Access Connections' automatic location switching

    Hi there,
The automatic location switching feature in Access Connections on my Lenovo T61p seemed a great idea as it allowed me to automatically switch from wired to wireless connectivity as my laptop got taken in and out of its docking station.
However I have now turned it off for Ethernet (wired) connections because it disconnects me from the internet whenever I plug in my phone to sync it with my laptop. Apparently the phone sets up a LAN connection over USB which triggers an unwanted location switch.
This means I must now manually turn on and off wireless connectivity as I take my laptop in and out of its docking station which is inconvenient.
If Ethernet location switching could be set up to ignore (i.e. not switch to) a particular MAC address without blocking its connectivity my problem would be solved.
    BR,
    Mark

I found from another bulletin board that ethernet location switching seemed to work OK with Access Connections 3.82, but stopped working with releases after that, and from my experience still does not work with 5.97
    http://www.thinkpads.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=38514
    Two questions:
    1. Does anyone know if Access Connections 3.82 works with Windows 7?
    2. If so, where could I get a copy?  The oldest version on the Lenovo website appears to be 5.50
I will refrain from commenting on the necessity of going back to such an old version to recover basic functionality for this utility......

  • How to set up full access and limited access wireless networks to laptops

    Dear Apple,
I just received my Apple 1 TB Time Capsule. Can someone please help me with a network configuration I want to set up?
I have a cable modem, and, three computers: a G4 iMAC (system 10.5.5), an Apple MacBook (system 10.5.5), and, a PC laptop.
The Time Capsule is connect directly to the cable modem.
    Regarding the computers:
    (1) I want the G4 iMAC to connect directly, via an Ethernet cable, to the Time Capsule, WITH FULL ALLOWED ACCESS to the Time Capsule and to the back-up function of the Time Machine feature, and, with allowed access to my HP inkjet printer (class 6110);
    (2) I also want the MacBook laptop to wirelessly link to the Time Capsule via the Airport utility on the laptop, and, WITH FULL ALLOWED ACCESS to the Time Capsule and to the back-up function of the Time Machine feature (using WPA/WPA2 security, and, without the network name visible to third parties), and, WITH allowed access to my HP inkjet printer (class 6110);
    (3) I want the PC laptop to wirelessly link to the Time Capsule (using WEP security), but WITHOUT ACCESS to the Time Machine, WITHOUT access to the back-ups on the iMAC, WITHOUT access to the back-ups on the MacBook, and, WITHOUT access to the inkjet printer --- I only want the PC to use the Time Capsule as a WIRELESS ROUTER so that the PC laptop can access the internet.
    (4) And, finally, I want to specify (Time-Capsule/Time-Machine/server ) access ONLY to the iMAC and the MacBook, so that others cannot gain any access.
I specifically need help to set up and configure the Time Capsule so that the PC laptop, as stated above, should have limited access to the Time Capsule --- namely, only to access the internet, and, not even be aware of stored data on the Time Capsule, not even be aware of the inkjet printer, and, not even see my WPA network name when the PC scans for wireless devices.
I also want the iMAC and the MacBook to have access to each other’s data stored on the Time Capsule (like a common server).
I have an old D-Link DI-624 wireless router that I used before buying the Time Capsule, which is available, if needed. Hopefully, I can configure the Time Capsule so that I would not need the old D-Link.
    Thank you in advance,
    David.

The basic method for remote access is not changed.
    http://gigaom.com/apple/access-your-time-capsule-over-the-internet/
    You have a few issues.
The really big one.. the school firewall should not let you connect to home.
Check the IT admin at your school but if they allow anything but a few protocols like http and https through, they are not doing their job. You cannot afford in a large network to have every Tom Dick and Harry access any open device.. that can introduce viruses and trojans into the network behind the firewall.
The general method for remote access on large networks is vpn and the TC offers no vpn connection.. just AFP.
If you intend using 3G wireless stick or the like then you can get access.
The next issue is static public IP or how to find the TC.. you need some way to find the IP if your ISP does not offer static ip, and the tc has no dyndns client. Since Apple shut down new users for mobileme and will close that service there is no method to find the TC IP without owning your own domain. You would be better placing the TC in bridge behind a router that does offer dyndns and port forward AFP (TCP 548) to it.

  • Apple mobile device support install/uninstall sets my wireless to limited access

    Dell Pavilion dv7
    Windows 7 64 bit.
    Current itunes 10.4
When installing itunes 10.5, my wireless connection changed to limited access.  I can not connect to the internet with wireless.  If I put my ethernet cable in, i can connect to the internet through the ethernet cable.
I found no solutions to fix the limited access issue.  So, i had to restore my system.  After the restore my wireless connection could connect to the internet again.
But now itunes does not work.  One of two messages come up.  The latest (i have done several system restores).  Either quicktime was not found or something about iTunes Library.itl is out of synch with the current version of itunes.
Now i decide to uninstall all the itunes installed products one at a time.  Itunes, quicktime, Apple software update, Apple mobile device support and there it goes, my wireless connection changes to limited access again.
    Any help would be great.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Access Connections 5.3 doesn't see wireless

Suddenly Access Connections can no longer see any wireless networks -- even though the Windows wireless manager connects fine.  There are other similar recent posts but without a solution that works.
    T41 Type 2373
    WinXP SP3
    Access Connections 5.3
Atheros a/b/g wireless lan mini PCI, with driver v4.1.2.156
    Hotkey features 1.31.0610
    Solutions I've tried already:
Ran sys update to get latest versions
    turned off firewall
removed Access Connections including all profiles
    removed wireless adapter driver
    removed hotkey features
    rebooted
reinstalled Hotkey, Wireless driver, and Access Connections
    rebooted
turned off firewall again during connection attempt
Access Connections fails to connect wirelessly (but connects OK hardwired)
The Connections Status window shows wireless radio not turned on Error Code 16  (even though the radio is on).  When I run repair, the error changes to code 9 - no wireless networks in range (even though more than one is in range).  I can connect via WinXP wireless mgr with no problem.
    Thanks for any help!

well i don't have xp on my machine and it is a t61 so what i can assist with is limited. (vista business access connections 5.31) i've reviewd you troubleshooting steps but first i do have to ask since it was a sudden change do you recall installing updates or changeing any settings? if you have it set for automatic backups check to be sure everything is ok there. i wouldn't normaly suggest system restore since it messes with the registry and I'VE seen it do some damage but enymachine and user is different so you can give that a try if you can't at all recall what may have happened.  you can find by going to start-->all programs-->accessories-->system tools
but just thinking off the top of my head in the advanced menu under details you change you global settings so that it wont power off the radio in any instance (but probably wont change since you can connect using the windows config) and be sure it is powered on by press fn+f5 along with checking for the wirless switch at the front of your computer, the t41 is a lil oder than mine so it may not have. and along with those drivers that you updated try updating (not uninstalling and reinstalling) the power managment driver. i know when i install my own os it runs a lot better to install you chipset and powermanagement drivers first. (that i i sugges to update and not uninstall) and since its giving an error that  it can't power on thats what i can suggest.
p.s. under tools there should be diagnostics to where you can check to see if you enabled the error logging, if yo uhave that might provide further assistance.
p.p.s. i've looked up on a few other topics and it prob makes a difference with xp instead of vista because when selecting which tool to configure your wirless connection can cause an issue. but i mainly see this with older versions of access connecctions. so i guess i good question is if you were able to use windows to view and connect while you were using access connections?

  • Think disabling WMM on G580 solved wifi Limited Access issue

I'm posting this in the hope the hope that it may help someone else.  I have a G580, model 20150 with Windows 8.1 and the Broadcom wifi card.  Like many of you, I had the limited Access dropout issue.  Here's the things I can remember trying previously:
Switching from the Microsoft Broadcom driver to the Broadcom driver.
Turning off power management on the Broadcom driver
Setting IBSS mode to just b/g
    Disable Bluetooth collaboration.
Disabling all things power managment I could find.
    etc...
The thing I found that seemed to fix it once and for all is going to the Advanced properties of the Broadcom and disabling "WMM".  As I understand it, WMM is a QoS feature for prioritizing audio/video port traffic over data.  Supposedly, you can't take advantage of wireless N speeds with WMM off, but I'll trade performance for not having to reconnect every 15 minutes.
I'm not going to mess with telling you how to disable WMM since there are tons of instructions and discussions on the interwebs.  I also can't guarantee that it wasn't a combination of WMM and other fixes that solved my problem because I'm not willing to experiment on my finally working pc.  My system has been constantly connected and going strong for 12 hours.
Good luck and I hope this helps.

Don't these usually work by intercepting the DNS quieries and then redirecting you to the gateway for authentication?  Check your DNS settings and  try to use theirs for the nameserver.  Make sure something else isn't getting specified such as Google Public DNS.

  • What's wrong with my Access Connections?

Can u help me? When I upgrade the Access Connections to v5.61, I can't get into the Access Connections.
Symptom 1: the process is running in the task manager, but no user interface comes out.
Symptom 2: when I choose the profile of wireless network, it can't work normally - the status is "Limited or No Connectivity".
    The related services are running:
    Access Connections Main Service
    Ac Profile Manager Service
    Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Event Log
    Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Registry Service
    Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless WiFi Service
There is nothing wrong with the drivers and the hardware, coz I can use Windows configuration to make it work well. So what happened when I upgrade the Access Connections and how to fix it?

    Hi,
the hint to uninstall Access Connection is something irrelevant.
However, of course it's your decision.
The basis is, that of course you have to upgrade all the apps and drivers like:
    Power Manager
    Power Management dirver
    System interface driver
    Hetkey features
    Wifi driver
Once this is done, of course restart the system.
Make sure, that the AC services are running and the "Windows Zero Configuration" and "Windows Presentation Foundation Font Cache 3.0.0.0" windows services are also started.
For your situation, also try to go into %programfiles%\ThinkPad\ConnectUtilities and try to start following files:
    ACMainGUI.exe
    Access Connections.exe
The "Access Connections.exe" is the original file, that should by default start. The second one should work, if you can see it there.
Also please make sure, the you have .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.0 installed and configured for your system.
NOTE to the persons, who are writing to uninstall Access Connection: Please don't place such notes, as this does not belong to this kind of forum. Valuable informations are of course appreciated.
    Cheers

Not a problem. I just wanted to point out that you won't get any "official" answers from Apple on this board. It is all user to user and we only know what we know and some of the time it is conjecture on how to fix a problem if we've never seen it before. I try to point out when I'm guessing, but I don't always remember to rephrase my statements.
I'm not sure how to set up the Time Machine, but look for an option to only serve out files via AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) only. Turn off SMB sharing, if possible. The PC won't be able to understand AFP--it communicates via SMB (Server Message Block). I would think you should be able to set up
If the PC can use WPA or WPA2, use that instead of WEP. There is no way to set up special passwords for individual users on a wireless network. It is all or nothing. Now, the wireless password could be different than the password needed to access the files, I think. So, you could set up a simple WPA password for wireless, but set up user accounts with strong passwords for the file server. Again, I don't have Time Capsule, so I don't know how to set it up. Hopefully, I've put enough keywords in for you to look through the configuration options and get it set up.
As long as this thread stays open and unanswered, more people might look in and have a more specific answer for you.

  • Limited access after securing

I have just recently secured my wrt54gs router with a WEP security. My laptop however, when I try to connect, will connect to the network with limited access only. It will not let me onto the internet. I have tried new firmware. Powering off the router and resetting it, but none of it has worked. The 2 house laptops do the same thing. One is on vista the other on xp. The network will connect fine and will allow me to use internet as long as there is no security. Help Please!

You should really try to NOT use WEP security as it is easy for hackers to break.  Use the WPA / WPA2-Personal as they are more secure.
You MUST be sure the passphrase / hexkey on EACH computer exactly matches the passphrase / hexkey on the router or they wont talk to each other.  But I think you know that already as you have communication from PC to router.
Look under the 'Wireless' tab. You may have a setting on the router for Wireless security for "Wireless MAC Filter".  This setting restricts what wireless devices can access your network (and thus the internet).  I believe that if you don't specifically either disable the wireless MAC filtering (allowing EVERYONE on your network), or enable it and allow only YOUR machines (by MAC address) on the router, they won't get internet.  I *think* you might be able to 'see' the rest of your network (because of the hexkeys), but not the internet.
But you need to use WPA or WPA2 encryption if at all possible.  Then you would have to come up the 26 character HEX key (numbers 0-9 and letters a-f).  Actually, I think it is 13 hex 'digits', each hex 'digit' consisting of 2 characters (0-9, a-f as above).  You MAC address is an example of a hex string.
    Hope this helps ya.
